Lighting by Gregory came highly recommended to us and didn't disappoint. I worked with Brice who was knowledgeable, courteous, and definitely not aggressive. Their selection was great. For our new apartment we purchased 2 monorail systems, recessed lights and under cabinet lights for our kitchen, 2 wall washes for pictures, and switches, dimmers and wall plates. My knowledge of what I needed was not great, especially for the switches, dimmers and wall plates, but Brice helped me choose the right products. Jahaira in Customer Service was excellend in following up with me whenever I needed delivery information. They exchanged an item that came in wrong and expedited delivery. I would highly recommend LBG and will definitely use them again if I have lighting needs.

LBG is one of those overwhelming lighting stores on the Bowery, but there is almost nothing they don't have or can't get. I was directed to work with Cliff Starr by my architect. I chose to do all the purchasing myself for a major NYC combination/renovation and we needed a lot of lighting for our project. Cliff is an amazing resource, wildly knowledgeable, and an incredible value add. To be perfectly honest, I price shopped most every item I bought, probably hundreds of line items for the project (not just lighting). After my first consult with Cliff I double checked his pricing against the web. On average LBG was even with best web pricing. At times they were a little more, and at times actually a little less. Paying for shipping for the most frugal would probably put LBG over the lowest prices available, however buying lighting for a major project is a massive endeavor, filled with technical nuances, especially for a non-professional. While Cliff does get busy, he is extremely responsive, often replying at all hours and on weekends. I would encourage anyone to work with Cliff on a major project. There are a great number of technical details and Cliff is able to ensure you find what you want and do it within your budget without tripping over yourself and creating more issues by using multiple vendors. I would STRONGLY encourage anyone needing $1,000's of dollars in lighting for larger projects to call Cliff. This was one of my best experiences buying for my project, and I was never disappointed by LBG or Cliff. Note you usually need to schedule time to meet, particularly for a major review of your project.

I wish I'd read the reviews before we went. All you see here is real. I don't think they even sell lights at all, it's some sort of financial float scheme. Remarkably we DID get our money back, but it took months and a lot of phone calls.

All the bad reviews are true - this place will take your money and then not deliver and will play every trick in the book to avoid having to help you out or give you a refund. After our hellish (and expensive) experience there we discovered the wonderful Lamp Warehouse in Brooklyn - unlike Lighting by Gregory they actually have everything in stock and they provide excellent service and value.

The worst service I have ever had. I placed my order 3 weeks ago. Till now I have not received my order.
I gave them a call and their manager told me that the product was backordered . They don't even bother to notify a customer that product is not available or backordered and customer has to wait one month...They take your money and don't want to hear from you any more. The worst service available.

I ordered a bathroom light that turned out to look a lot different than it was shown on the website. I spoke with Sonya Roman in the customer service department and she argued that the colors in my photograph were not different than the colors shown on the website. She has the power to waive the re-stocking fee but refused to do so. I have to pay a 25% restocking fee even though the pictures clearly show that I am in the right. Sonya cannot control her mouth. She cut me off numerous times during the phone conversation. I am in customer service myself and I made sure I stayed polite and calm. The phone conversation ended with her hanging up on me. I would definitely avoid this company.

BUYER BEWARE: don't get fooled by the apparent variety of items in the shop! I ordered some spotlights in June as the salesman promised me 3-4 weeks delivery. It took 2 month before I was called to go to the shop and (in theory) collect the items. Unfortunately, in the shop there were really only 2 out of 3 items that I ordered (and already paid for) and those 2 items were the wrong models, anyway. To cut it short it: it took another 2 months of weekly phone calls to their rude and incompetent "customer service" to finally get my money back.

I have amended my original review somewhat. Barely satisfactory would be a good category. Lighting by Gregory's customer service needs considerable improvement. There are a couple things to keep in mind:
1.) LBG does not stock most of what they sell. Some online vendors do carry stock, but many do not, so this is not that unusual. However, if you really want to know if and when something is going to be shipped, it is best to ask the vendor if they actually stock the item or ship the item from their own warehouse(s) and, if not, check with the manufacturer to see if the item is still available and if it is in stock at the manufacturer. Some vendors are very evasive about this, so you really have to pin them down on this issue. I have to say that LBG was upfront when I asked them about the source of the items on my order.
2.) LBG customer service is very rude, have poor communication skills and could be more efficient. Being "transferred to David" at extension 232 is as good as being hung up on. However, if you have a problem with your order, it is best to first send a brief, complete description of the problem (wrong finish, wrong lamp shade, etc) via their web site (see "contact us") and indicate the exact model number you are trying to order (ie NW 8124 CH TR in my case). Wait a day or two for email reply. Usually this will do the trick. However, if it does not, they are somewhat better about handling the problem once you have completed this step than they are if you call first. If all else fails, some reviewers have indicated that disputing the charge with VISA gets LBG's attention.

In any case, where I work, I would not last long if I was as rude and non communicative as some of LBG's employees are. Nonetheless, their selection is fantastic (probably due to limited stock but multiple vendor contacts) and their prices are competitive. However, all else being equal, I would try to purchase elsewhere first unless you are up to a frustrating experience if things don't go smoothly: see others' reviews for details.

NO STARS!! I ordered products online and was charged for them and nearly three months later, despite repeated promises, they have not shipped. No communication from Gregory about delays and only form responses to my emails. Trying to finally cancel the order and get a refund is proving difficult. Strongly recommend NOT ordering from this firm.

I purchased a $1000 chandelier online from the store. I have been calling for days to return it and no one answers the phone at customer service. Additionally, the only people I can talk to are in sales and refuse to help me, they just transfer me to an answering machine. Luckily, I am an attorney, but I will have to sue to reclaim my money.

STAY AWAY! They do not help after they sell. They re-sell fixtures from unreliable manufacturers who do not provide parts or service. I have been emailing them for two weeks to get help to repair an expensive fixture. No return emails. If you order from them you are on your own.

\r\nI placed an order on 6/4/10 for a hunter fan remote control and slanted mount for a total of $60.63. The amount was posted to my discover card on 6/6/10. They posted two week delivery on their website. Three weeks later still no delivery, I called to inquire, the person took my name and said she would check into it. A week later still no contact, I called last friday and Brian answered the phone who refused to help me and refused to give me the name of the president of the company stating I didn't have the right to complain b/c the order was probably late. On 7/5/10, I called customer service, the person that answered the phone did not find an order for me did not see the charge on my discover card and denied charging my discover card and did not give me the email to forward my complaint and hung up when I asked her name. I called the third time Sabrina in Customer service gave me only ""Daniel"" as the president of the company to complain to.\r\n\r\nMy only resort is to go through my discover card.

I only use LBG for my needs and as a develepor i use them often. The people there speak plain, easy to understand english, and are more than helpful in terms of pricing. ive returned product to them as well and never once had an issue. If you have issues with LBG, maybe you should read the information before you order, because it sounds like alot of these people didnt even take the time to understand the policies, which are actually very common across the internet. welcome to the 21st century everybody!!

im a big fan of their website and recently traveled to NYC and thought i'd visit the showroom. maybe the website is easier to navigate (the showroom is the biggest in new york) but its definitely nice to have friendly people to help you on site. Got a great deal. If youre from NY or just visiting, check out the store. theyve got everything....

lightingbygregory's website is very simply put together and easy to use. i was able to find the billiard light i wanted very easily. i used a coupon code and it didnt work but the salesman on the phone gave me another that did. If you wanna save money use the site to find the product then call them for a better price.

Wife and I wanted to replace our 30 year old chandelier as a valentine's present to eachother. We hadnt shopped for lighting in..about 30 years! Our daughter suggested we go online. We found Lighting by gregory and there was so much product in dizzies the mind. Fortunately you can also call and get a real human on the phone. What a concept! We told them what we were looking for and what we wanted to spend. They took the time to spend a half hour with us working through a bunch of beautiful fixtures. When we finaly saw one we fell in love with at a price we liked, the saleswoman took another 20% off the price. As if that wasnt enough it arrived last thursday, just in time to have it hung for valentines day. Couldn't be happier. Were just glad our daughter showed us how to do a review for them here to show our gratitude. ha ha!

I dont blame LBG for the broken product, hence the five stars, but yeah. our floor lamp came busted up pretty good. It just looked like the delivery guys were throwing it around carelessly.\r\n\r\nWhat was great though was how easy returning the thing was. I called on a monday, real friendly girl took all my information, promised me the lamp in a week and i had the new one by the same friday. Didnt pay a dime to return in (not that i would have given the condition of it, but they didnt try anything either)\r\n\r\nreal reputable site for lighting. id recommend them to anyone. \r\n\r\n(oh and the lamp is beautiful when its not in pieces.)

I placed a very large order (over $10k) about a year and a half ago from Lighting by Gregory and had no problems with the order at all. I shopped for the best prices and found them to be the lowest for Minka and Designers Fountain lights.

I also recently placed a telephone order for a couple of replacement parts about a week ago and they arrived promptly, drop-shipped from the different manufacturers. As a side note, I had called 4 different local lighting stores to get these parts and none of them followed through...when I called Lighting by Gregory, they placed my order during my one and only phone call to them!

Worst customer service experience. I will never buy here again. Aside from the fact that my credit card was charged immediately and the item was not received for 8 weeks, the item that I ordered was not described properly on the website and as a result, did not match what I already had. I was not permitted to return it because orders under $50 are non returnable. (But it was not as described) Repeated emails and a letter to the President of the company went unanswered.

I agree with everyone on the page about the Gregory Lighting company. Some of the friendliest people youll meet in NYC, they know what theyre talking about and dont try to rip you off. It does get busy on the weekends though so if you can get in there on a business day I'd suggest it. Took half the time on a Monday that it took on a Sunday to find similar stuff.

I found the ceiling fan ordering process over complicated. Every other website bogs you down with trying to run all over the site tracking down all the little parts. I called Gregory Lighting and they made it very simple. They showed me how all of the options for every fan on their site is listed right beneath the picture. An item i remind you that wasnt even for sale on their website.\r\n\r\nShipping fee of $15 for a $4 shade felt high but it's a flat fee on all orders under $50 so i suppose I should have just ordered 13 of them. Lord knows ill break another one eventually. :) \r\n\r\nall in all a great customer experience.

I wish I read these reviews before making a purchase at Lighting By Gregory! My shopping experience in this online store turned out to be a neverending nightmare. The items I ordered online arrived broken (both pieces). As I opened the two boxes, I saw that they weren't well packed at all. And now it is taking the company over THREE weeks to issue me a return label, so that I can mail the two lights back. It looks like it may take them three more weeks (at the least) to issue me a refund. If this isn't ridiculous, then I don't know what is.\n\nLike so many others have pointed out, the customer services is horrible, and that's to put it kindly. One has more luck reaching Obama than getting a hold of them (their preferred means of communication seems to be e-mail, as it's easier to ignore those). Placed an order for 15 chandeliers on August 6th, and it is now August 21st and they're telling me that the manufacturer is experiencing some delays, and that they won't ship out until next week. It would be nice if they had notified me in any way, shape, or form bout they delay, but I got nothing at all.
