Had a lovely sunday brunch with great views of the river.\r
Friendly service. Buffet food!! Some is good and some is not as good. Great desserts!!! Defenitively paying for the view. Could use some improvement on the quality of food

The menu had pretty good options for Restaurant Week. The dressing on the avocado salad was a bit salty. The cream used to top the dessert had a weird oily feel. These would be the only complaints. The good food started with the warm breads on the table. The lobster bisque and cocktail appetizers were good. The steamed lobster, hanger steak and codfish entrees were very nicely prepared. The chocolate layer cake and key lime pie were delicious. I didn't care too much for the strawberry shortcake.

All the window seats were taken by the time we arrived for our reservation at 6:15pm so we had a banquette by the wall. The place filled up rather quickly and with more people, the sound level rose, though not to an unpleasant level.

A beautiful location at the water and a great menu with high class service. I barely remember the food, but the brunch menu was a great selection and the desserts were incredible!

My wife surprised me for my birthday and had me drive right up to the door before I knew that this restaurant was the surprise. I had never heard of it although I take the FDR often enough. There was a valet that took our car immediately so no search for parking. We were seated immediately by a host who knew of us without reading a guest list. The ambience is beautiful. There was a live pianist. The food was great. I ordered from the pre fixe menu which is anything but cheap in quality for $35. The tomato soup appetizer was "assembled" right in front of us. The chicken breast was a hearty, flavorful proportion and the layered chocolate cake was a symphony of rich nutty flavor. Did I mention sterling silver utensils? I had some great gourmet coffee and a glass of white wine. In total our bill( I snuck a peek) was $86 and well worth it. Most people sat at the window but you can see the east river from anywhere in the resaurant. The wait staff was courteous and they checked in with us often. We lastly took pictures by the fireplace lounge and we were unrushed and completely comfortable the whole time. THe host even took the picture for us and offered to take as many as my wife deemed "cute". I had an unforgettable birthday there and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to have a truly fine dining experience.

Pros: Seemles Service and dining experience. Incredible view

Cons: Get directions as getting there may be tricky ( it's hidden under the FDR)

My friends and I went here for restaurant week. The bartender and staff was awesome but the food was not up to par. For the appetizer, all 9 of us ordered the crab soup - which ended up being flavorless and had an after-kick to it. For the entree about half of us ordered the lamb and while the rest ordered the chicken and salmon. The lamb was bland & overcooked, the olive sauce was just horrible. No one enjoyed their dinner. Dessert was a little bit better - we had the chocolate cake & the apple tart but by then no one wanted to eat anymore.

I can not agree with all the negative reviews on this site. We had a 40th Birthday celebration for a friend of mine and the service, food were excellent. The entire staff was friendly and attentive to our needs and all of our dinners arrived on time and cooked exactly as ordered. The 2lb lobsters were worth every penny. Served tableside, cleaned and shelled, all we had to do was dip in butter. We were treated very, very well and the staff made this 40th birthday celebration very special. Yes, this place is pricey, but for sure it is one of those places for special occassions. I would recomend this place to anyone. Try it, you will not be disappointed.

I'm obsessed with good food and win and always want to eat in a special place. My husband?s family is English and they came over from England so I took them to The Water Club to eat, it?s a classic American cuisine, a very fashionable and cool restaurant. At the front doors a hostess with her big charming smile. We were given a nice table by the window with a great view on the east river and 59 st. bridge. It is fairly priced and you won't be disappointed. Our waiters were great! They were polite, funny and attentive without being in our faces; the service was very nice and fast. The talented pianist played some great music but was at a realistic sound level so you could still chat without yelling. The great atmosphere combined with the reasonable prices and tasty food makes it the perfect place to go in the city, the ambiance is great and the bathrooms are clean. It was a great experience, from start to finish. I highly recommend the water club restaurant and I will be definitely coming back soon!

I wanted to take my father to a really great restaurant with awesome NYC views; however, what was supposed to be a fantastic experience turned out to be an absolute nightmare b/c of the inexcusably rude staff. Upon arriving, we encountered a rude host, which could have been forgiven had our experience changed. Unfortunately, the rudeness continued throughout our dinner. The waiter was not only unfriendly, but he acted as if he had a major problem when we asked him to describe a few meals to us. Additionally, he was so put out when we asked him to refill our drinks, etc. Simply put, a fine dining experience should be just that....you shouldnt have to put up with waiters and hosts who act as if they are better than you and who are clearly miserable doing there job.

On the East River - The Water Club restaurant at 30th St. with the brass bar and polished wood floors, the large wrapped windows in the main dining room that look up/down the waterway to see what? The crows nest with its cheap plastic chairs on a wooded plank deck with broken pieces of glass pushed into cracks (out of the way of patron?s eye) with the smell of garbage bellowing from the river.

The few inside improvements are just a cover for the rude, sarcastic attitude of the wait staff. The small portions with BIG, BIG prices -3 slimy slices of tomatoes with 2 slices of mozzarella cheese at a mere $11.00. I ordered the filet steak (medium/rare). First steak, seared on the outside grey on the inside (where is the juice?), second steak seared on the outside and raw (not cooked) on the inside. I told the waiter to bring the chicken dish instead; I could not watch another steak being destroyed. Now with a sarcastic inquiry ?How do you want your chicken MEDIUM? No side dish of vegetable or potato was included. To make matters worst, one individual at our table order sorbet for dessert, the waiter was quick with his rude respond ?You want sorbet? Do you know what sorbet is?
How rude can you get? We are paying customers and this restaurant is not cheap.

I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody. It you are curious, don?t be. Save your money. If you need to see the water stroll on the promenade and enjoy the fleeting views. Better yet go somewhere else for lunch or dinner.

This floating restaurant should be CONDEMMED

Try Mr.K?s on Lexington & 51st Street. The inside of the restaurant is art deco, prices are not cheap, but food was great and the presentation of the food was like being in a royal palace. Lunch has a pre-fix menu. Try the lover?s dumpling.

This was the worst restaurant I have ever been to in NYC. I will definitely not be going back and I would discourage everyone from going. The service is horrible and food is expensive and poor tasting!

Went for restaurant week 2008 and were assured there would be vegetarian options- upon arrival they only offered to give us two appetizers which if ordered separately would have been cheaper than the restaurant week price. Ended up ordering off the menu and the salad was bitter and bad- they left off the polenta croutons which we had to ask them to bring out . the creamed spinach was tasteless. My partner's meal was equally poor - the rest week menu was bad, tasteless, dry, and the service was rude beyond belief. Will never go back!!!!

This is the worst restaurant service I ever received!!! DO NOT go here.
First, when I asked them to be careful keeping shellfish away from my boyfriend's food, instead of accomodating me they actually told me to go elsewhere and wrote a letter saying they had warned that they cannot prevent shellfish from touching his food so they wouldn't get sued.

Then, we got a bottle of wine and it was not so hot. The waitor came over and asked if it was ok. When we said it was not the greatest, he offered to get us another bottle.
We agreed, and the next thing we new, the host was coming over, leaning forward on our table and saying "You know, there was NOTHING wrong with that bottle of wine... We're going to have to charge for that..."

He was so rude and disparaging, we decided to leave. On the way out, the host had the nerve to call my boyfriend an A**H**E.

A restaurant this fancy that a) can't accomodate a food allergy, b) has the audacity to charge for a bottle after offering to replace it with another one and c) curses at its customers is NOT worth it.
I was so disappointed...... I thought it was going to be a great anniversary dinner for us.

Instead, we went down to Gonzo on 13th between 6th and 7th.
It's no where near as fancy as the haught taughty "Water Club," but the service and the food are amazing!!!

My boyfriend took me here for a Sunday Brunch and it was wonderful. The food was amazing. The service was attentive and polite. The view was relaxing and romantic. I am constantly on a diet, and even I was able to get a wonderful choice of food. However, when it came to dessert I forgot about my diet because of the huge amount of delicious desserts. If you want to sample the food before paying top dolor for your meal this place has an unbeatable brunch value.

Though out of the way, the setting was welcoming (even on a rainy day). While waiting for my friend I had a great glass of pinot noir in front of the fire. The decor and view was romantic and even though I wasn't on a date I will be sure to bring one here in the future. I recommend the lobster which is deshelled for you at the table. The mashed potatoes O'Keeffe, as in Buzzy O'Keeffe the owner, were a great side. Our server was friendly and more than accommodating to my friends very specific dietary needs. Will definitely be back again. Hope it will be sooner rather than later.

As a frequent out-of-town visitor to NYC, it was a pleasure to visit The Water Club. We were able to drive right up to the front entrance and have our car valeted (for free!). It was a weight off our shoulders that we didn't need to worry about parking or finding the restaurant. The Water Club is located right on the East River, literally (part of it is on top of the water, on a barge). The view is unparalled and you can see both bridges. The menu does not speak to how great the food is. I had the tuna app which was very fresh and unique. The focal point of dinner was my husband's delicious fish meuniere, which was . You can really distinguish a restaurant by the freshness of the food and the execution of the classics.
The only problem is that there are not many things to do in the direct vicinity of the restaurant. However, The Water Club is worth the trip by itself.
Our experience was so great that we are planning a party there soon.

My boyfriend and I went to the Water Club as a celebratory dinner. It was terrible! He made reservations and requested a table by the window. When we arrived they sat us in the back. When my boyfriend informed the Matre de that he req. a table by the window, the man shrugged his shoulders and said, "you can wait but there are 6 tables ahead of you".....That should have been the first clue that we should have said thank you and left. We sat down and it was about 20 minutes before anyone even came by to ask for our drink order. We waited 1 1/2 hours for our appetizer which was 1 iceberg lettuce salad and 1 calamari that tasted only of breading. I had the East Coast shellfish pan fry or pan roast and my boyfriend had the surf and turf. We also ordered creamed spinach which did not taste anything like creamed spinach. I couldnt even take more than 1 bite. My East Coast sampler tasted as if they fished it out of the East River and while the filet mignon on my boyfriend's plate was tender, it had zero taste. $200 and 2 1/2 hours later and we couldnt wait to get out of there. I got home and ate a 3 musketeers bar. Finally I was satisfied.

I went to the water club with a close friend for restaurant week and had a less than great experience. First off the maitre-de was extremely rude and would not let us sit outside or by a window. He said it was a fire hazard. I don't know if it is or not but they could have offered us a window seat especially since we were the first people in the restaurant. The first course of she crab soup was ok but i got sick less than an hour after leaving the restaurant. I had the chicken dish for the main course which was slightly over salted and the desert was the best part of the not-so-great meal... In conclusion the only thing this restaurant has going for them is the beautifully decorated atmosphere. But I will not return there to pay for a view

took my folks there on a sunday. the restaurant was pretty empty because of inclement weather that day. i had never been to water club before but they recommended it since they had been there. the view and scene at this restaurant is just gorgeous. the food was good (only a handful of the dishes were great) but there is one thing i don't get. Why do so many of my fellow city searchers rate this place as having bad service. I for one thought it was wonderful. Anything i wanted, i got it (sometimes before i asked) i was pleasantly pleased with this restaurant and will come back again one day (hopefully on a day where it rains again as i believe that i got lucky avoiding the normal hustle and bustle of a brunch restaurant)

We came here for Sunday brunch. We had reservations for opening time at 11am, so we got a table right next to the window overlooking the river. The buffet was excellent, very high quality. The types of foods were typical brunch fare, but all were prepared well and tasty. The dessert table was fantastic, hard to choose from so many delectable desserts. The service was very friendly and attentive. We thought the price was a bargain for excellent food at a prime location. The reservation said that jackets are required for men, and all the men I saw there indeed had them.

Honestly, probably my favorite restaurant of all time. The food was incredible, the service was kind and the ambiance was breathtaking! According to my boyfriend, who is a Guinness expert, they poured the best pint this side of the Atlantic! Suprising for a non-Irish pub! I thought I lost my earring and the entire staff scurried to help! They offered to continue looking and took my contact information if they found it (silly me left it at home- but thats another story!). All in all, a great place =)

The Water Club has the best Sunday brunch deal anywhere in the city. The buffet is immense, raw bar, omelettes made to order, pancakes, many, many lunch items and a killer dessert spread for only $35. Definitely make reservations - it is packed!

My friends took me to The Water Club for my birthday last week and we are still talking about what a great night it was. Just being on the water is a real treat - an escape from the streets of NY. The food was delightful - I had the lobster and the famous potatoes O'Keefe, and my two friends had the steak - which was cooked to perfection. The Maryland shecrab (sp) soup was also delicious. No room for desserts, but what went by us looked great. A really nice touch is the piano player in the bar area. Am looking forward to my return visit.............

I eat out all the time, and have never experienced such bad service and such rude waiters anywhere. The restaurant is very lovely and the food was fine, but who needs to go to a place (and spend a lot of money) to be treated in such a bad manner. The captain ignored us mpost of the evening - he was busy talking in the corner and the waiter never came by to see how dinner was - have no interested in going there again.

The service is absolutly miserable here. This bar/resturant was a complete waste of time. It is difficult to get to the location and the food is terrible. Don't bother making any effort to go to the Water club. Truly a disappointment. The view is nice but not worth the trouble to be treated so poorly.

Went for lunch. the calamari was the best yet, the Halibut was also very good. My friend had the lobster lunch which was a great deal at $32.00 The lobster bisque had a lot of lobster in it and the lobster itself was stuffed with crab and steamed perfectly. Sorbet for dessert. Good selection of wines by the glass. We had the reisling which was quite refreshing and went well with the meal. Service was fine.

After lunch we got a drink at the bar and went up to the outside deck which doesn't open until 4. great views of the river traffic from both the dining room and the deck.

I want to go back some night for dinner to see the night view of the city with the lights.

Beware.... there are tons of groups (all from out of town), it is very loud, the food is bland and overcooked. We went to the Water Club to celebrate our anniversary, we drove since we knew the resturant is not that easy to get to on food and there is a lot of traffic in that area. Our dinner was very disappointing, we were surrounded by several large and loud groups (many were also complaining about slow service). When we went to get our car we found a dent in the bumper which was not there when we arrived. The valet manager assured us that this did not occur at the Water Club but rather before we arrived. I assure you it did not. The valet manager could not have been ruder or more dismissive. The resturant manager was slightly better but not much. They acted as if it was our fault! When we asked about their security cameras to see if the incident was caught on tape they said they aren't sure if they were on!! I will never go to the Water Club again and I strongly reccommend that everyone else avoid it.

I take clients and colleagues to their outside bar every week. It's great fun. The service is always excellent, the girls remember you by name, drinks are served quickly and the menu has a variety of appetizers, hamburgers, hotdogs etc. If you're looking for a high class yet unpretentious place, this is the perfect place to go.

Why ? Newyork's most romantic restaurant going down to hill , Answer is easy a few people names Chauncy who is a Captain and His partner Hussein these two guys are running the place with no manners, they have no idea what is hospitality business is. Of course there are more people like them. Buzzy O" Keefe needs to find more professional people who they can run his place with a CLASS Bruno Saint Andre is a great manager but he is powerless against these people, I know all these names because i used be a regular customer . Food is simple, clean, tasty but the service is HORRIBLE at water club , went down hill long time ago place needs a new managment, waiters, bartenders and more. If you ever want a visit water club think twice , why? because you will Very Dissipointed. There are better restaurants in newyork than water club . Like I said TOURIST TRAP.

I have to agree with the person before me who said the Maitre'D was rude. I have been here a couple of times and always had a nice time. I went with my husband and it was basically empty. The Maitre'D seats us, I asked to have a different seat for a nicer view, he just said that section is closed and he was rude about it. Then 10 minutes later a group of 15 people sat right by us and they were literally screaming they were talking so loud. It was really awful. What is really upsetting is that the place was empty when we came and the Maitre'D seated us by a large group.
It was so bad I wanted to leave, my husband told the Maitre'D we wanted to change our seat and by this time more people came in so we had to sit at a table right by the waitstaff which was uncomfortable.. Also I noticed the staff was less professional from when I previously have been there. I could still hear the screaming from the group. It was awful. Then when we left after leaving a 15% tip, none of the waitstaff said goodnight and the Maitre'D ignored us.
He should of apologized.
I could of had a quieter dinner at Mc'Donalds than this place. Not classy anymore.
DOnt waste your money.

Since Kevin Reilly became Exec chef in April 2006, I have been here twice - once for Rest Wk dinner and then for Sunday brunch. For years prior, I have heard that the food was just ok. I thought my Restaurant Week dinner in June was prety good, not knowing yet that a new chef had taken over in April. But truly, just a few minor unique touches could really amp my rating up to 'great'.

Did a large party birthday brunch gathering 8/6. For $35, the Sunday brunch offering is quite good - fresh oysters on the half shell, the best whitefish salad I've ever had, moist filet mignon and leg of lamb and excellent chocolate croissants, just to name a few of the many offerings. But again, a few enhancements to the seasonings to make them have a bit more flavor would really go a long way. HOWEVER, I have to agree with kmercuri in that they should get a new Maitre'D. Wish I had taken his name down...older gentleman who is the rudest person I've ever met at a restaurant of this caliber, or less! This is not a child-friendly place (I mean, $33, not $32 like the website says, for children 10 and under???). Since they do not provide high chairs, my friend thought she would use her stroller to hold her 10-month-old son at the table (novel idea, right?!). The rude maitre'd told her in a very rude and gruff voice - "You must remove that stroller now! We cannot have that in the dining room"! Didn't even offer an alternative seeing clearly that this child would not be able to sit in a regular chair. Note - best not to take children under 5 here, which is a shame. Not ok to bring in strollers, but it apparently is ok to bring your 90-year-old mother here with her large rolling walker... It took 10 minutes before a waiter came over to take our drink order, and he had no recommendations. Also, don't even think about bringing your own birthday cake to this place - $7 per person plating charge (brunch has so many desserts, it's not necessary anyway)!

Had dinner there Saturday night and the experience was just average at best. They stated that there is a water view from every table, but since I am only 5 feet tall, I needed to strain my neck to enjoy the view. The service was very slow and the food was not worth the wait. I expected more for the amount of money I spent there.

I came here with my parents a couple years back during the New York Restaurant Week. Our five-course meals were about $40 each, normally I think the meals are at least $100. All i have to say is if they were $100, I would've wanted my money back. The food is definitely not great at all and the portions are so tiny I wanted to go to McDonald's afterwards just to be full. The atmosphere, however, is beyond gorgeous. The lights around, reflecting off the water of the East River outside the window is just perfect. Service was great and the candlelit look is just lovely. This place would be perfect for a date, but the only thing good on the menu is the souffle dessert, and that isn't even that great either.

PROS: very gorgoues
CONS: bad food, high prices

To be experienced at least once if you're in NYC....for god's sake ...it's on the river...seems like a better brunch place than dinner....their filet mignon was prepared very well but lacked the flavor and savvy I generally require food at that price to have...bland cuisine prepared well means no next dinner visit...but certainly worthy of the easier brunch meal...friendly staff....nice interior...and well...did I mention the exterior view of East River....do visit if you've just moved to NYC....enjoy! Hope this has been helpful.

The Maitre'd should really take a remedial class in Manners. My wife and I showed up on time for our reservation and were escorted into an almost empty dining room...and promptly seated at a bad table. When I asked for a better table the Maitre'd gruffly said, "no." No explanation, no apology, just "no." Even though the roof was leaking right behind my seat, this was the table I was to be seated at.

I was amazed that six servers were on the floor, but none actually left the servers' station. When they finally came to the table to take our drink order, the server dutifully informed us that there are two types of champagne by the glass, good ($16.00 per glass) and "bad" ($8.00 per glass). I don't go to expensive restaurants to be belittled by a server.

Also, if you decide to go to the breakfast buffet for a second time, you have to bus your own table. No one cme by to clear my table or ask if I needed another drink until I took my dirty plate and placed it on the unoccupied table next to us.

This is truly one of those restaurants where it's better to let it go out of business and wait for someone new to take over the space and provide great service. It was a bitter disappointment and I would have walked out if it weren't for the fact that my wife and I were celebrating. the only way to I got reasonably good service was by causing a scene.

The breakfast buffet is what you'd expect at a Hyatt. Nothing over-the-top. Take my advice and pass. The decor is beautiful, but it isn't worth being treated like a second class citizen

Our service was horrible; our chicken was dry and fish was horribly prepared!
I waited over 30 minutes for a glass of water!
Needless to say my experience was less to be desired and wouldn't go back.
I can get better food, service and a nicer view from a great place in NJ.
I would NEVER go back!!!!

Go to any other seafood place and you will have a much better meal.

The decidedly masculine-feeling nautical decor is a refreshing change from other restaurants that try ever so hard to be chic. The bar is quite comfortable and the piano music at night adds to the delightful ambience. Our favorites: the Calamari appetizer (which is never, ever chewy), and the crab-cake. For your main meal, try the glazed sea scallops with roasted citrus and mesclun greens, the Filet Mignon (with one of the most scrumptious treatment of potatoes we've had in New York), or the broiled Salmon. The lobster is good but over-priced; go for lunch and it's only $35 and served prixe-fix with all the trimmings. And the food is consistently good, every visit. Service isn't overly quick, but who cares with a lovely view of the river. We found every single employee to be friendly and helpful. A big plus for us is the free valet parking.

This place was fine but considering its reputation and cost it was a disappointment. The food was quite awful - bland and overcooked. Tables were tiny and cramped. Service was pleasant but not outstanding. The view was average. I am not sure what the big fuss is about it being on the water; there was nothing to see. I would much rather go over to Brooklyn and eat a pizza on the waterfront or get a glass of champagne at the Rainbow Grill. Are New Yorkers so deprived of water that anything on the water is considered a great view? Perhaps it is because I am from the South Pacific were we have many much better (and cheaper) restaurants on the water. Overall I wouldn't recommend it. You will be disappointed and a whole lot poorer afterwards.

The dining room was huge and spread out with floor to ceiling glass windows, gorgeous views of East River. The most breathtaking water views of any place I've been in Manhattan. I don't know why more restaurants are not on the water like this? I went at night and every table had long stem candles in candlesticks, very romantic. Menu was steaks and seafood, great wine selection with top vineyards. Good peoplewatching--lots of good looking couples. Professional waiters, coat check, great tasting gourmet food, and valet parking. I will go definately go back with a romantic date. Oh, there is also a lovely bar with fireplace as this place is two story and enormous in size.
