These negative reviewers obviously do not understand how a service based business works. 1. they charge for their time, NOT for the fix. 2. If a part is required, they charge for the cost of the part, AND the labor (aka TIME) to install it. It says it right there on their repair orders that A FIX IS NOT GUARANTEED, which EVERY CUSTOMER IS REQUIRED TO SIGN. They are the ONLY shop in this area with ANY sort of knowledge. If you take your system to BEST BUY or STAPLES, they will charge you 20 dollars MORE than red barn for a virus cleaning, but also (what they don't tell you) BEST BUY WILL WIPE YOUR DRIVE IF THEY CANNOT REMOVE THE INFECTIONS AFTER 3 ATTEMPTS. THEY ALSO HIRE HIGHSCHOOL KIDS WITH NO FORMAL PC REPAIR TRAINING. This is to all the negative reviewers: If they are such a horrible business, can you please explain how they have existed in binghamton for over 15 YEARS?!?!?! They service the military, governments, and big name education organizations. You're the type of people that walk up to the service counter expecting free tech support. Do you expect free diagnostics when you take your car to the shop? Does your mechanic guarantee a fix? If so, I'd like to shake his hand and call him a liar.

BOTTOM LINE IS THIS: RED BARN IS A SOLID PC REPAIR SHOP, BUT THEY ARE AN EVEN BETTER HIGH PERFORMANCE SYSTEMS INTEGRATOR.

I had recently had my laptop computer in for repair. I must say, the repair department has an amazing worker. I first met Ben when I walked through the door. He was friendly and confident that my computer would be fixed. The work was even completed faster than they had quoted me!
It's very rare now a days that you walk into a business and meet someone so pleasant and knowledgeable. Kuddos to Ben for a job well done!

I've bought both a laptop and a desktop from Red Barn and have been very happy with their service department. I've probably had to call for help more than most people, and they're always patient with my questions and willing to walk me through what I need to do - like setting up a second monitor. The couple of times it was more than what we could do over the phone, my computer was in and out quickly. Thanks for all the help!

My experience with Red Barn is that they are helpful and knowledgeable, go out of their way to help customers with their computer needs. Repairs, service, parts and new computers cost money but their prices are competitive. You get what you pay for. The folks at Red Barn are true professionals.

Thanks Red Barn! I just got an Asus flat panel monitor for $20 less then from Newegg, and their staff even informed me of an extra mail in rebate. It was nice to keep my money local and save money for a change!! Glad I checked with them first!

Superb service at an affordable price. If you want the job done right, this is where you should go. Their techs are knowledgeable and their systems reliable. For those of you who think that you can get the same computer at Dell for $299, you are sadly mistaken! You get what you pay for.

I am saddened by the griefing that occurs on these review sites. You are upset that they couldn't help you for free? They need to make money to stay in business! They won't be helping ANYONE if they have to shut their doors!!!

Now, everybody is entitled to their opinion, as I am to mine. I will be doing business with Red Barn for a VERY long time...

As with Anonymous in the review above I can not stress how much rb's business practices suck. Deceit & Inappropriate Attitude toward customers will be their downfall. What awful customer service. I've gone in there and have had some of their "techs?" tell me I didn't know what I was talking about.... wtf... I may not be nobel material; however, I am a bona fide engineer (for whatever that's worth).
I will never do business with them again. I'll drive somewhere else for emergency requirements or if timing allows order online. I'm a small business owner (specialty equipment repair) and spend a lot of money each year on computer parts and builds.... RB will not get any of that business again.
I STRONGLY Recommend you Shop elsewhere if you can!
Other Item:
They truly rape people on PC repairs.... holy crap have I heard some nightmare stories from friends of friends on those encounters...

I would give them a minus star rating if it was an option.

Red Barn hires employees who have not only experience but enjoy their field. We've been having trouble at our nonprofit for ages, depending on random strangers to try and fix our network issues. For such a simple issue, they were able to quickly come in, diagnose the issue, and resolve it quickly without wasting our time. I can't speak for their hardware but they know software issues and seem to be pretty willing to take care of you if you have complaints with their service.

On another note, regardless of how their service was, being not native here I was floored to meet for the first time in ages someone who knew how to smile and behaved like he wanted to do the work! It's good to know a company whose employees are obviously well cared for, and walk the balance between being open to hearing what you think is the problem and not being afraid to speak from their education. I'm sure anyone who has a problem with them probably tried to tell them how to do their job, which is ironic since if they know so much why are they getting outside help? I would be wary of anything a southern tier reviewer says negatively, because they could taste salt in honey and usually can be found on review boards finding mean things to say about others.

May Red Barn continue to serve as an example of small non-mega corporate business providing reliable local service in a changing economy that doesn't favor them.

Pros: WIllingness to return to site multiple times, continuous customer support from diagnosis to ordering parts.

Cons: Busy business; hard to book them quickly sometimes because they have so many customers

I called Red Barn and asked them for help with trouble shooting my boyfriends computer, and the man that I spoke with said that he doesn't make money doing troubleshooting over the phone, and only makes money when people bring them in. This company is only concerned about making money, and not about there valued customers. I will never recommend this company to anyone.

Red Barn Computers is totally incapable of doing the job they claim they do and fail even worse at customer service.

When my PC went down I isolated the problem to either motherboard or power supply and took it to Red Barn because I needed immediate replacement parts.

Red Barn offered to test the power supply so I could determine what needed to be replaced. Their technician returned the box moments later and indicated the power supply was fine; leading me to purchase a $200+ system replacement (motherboard, cpu, ram) rather than a $70 replacement power supply.

When I assembled the parts they wouldn't POST, leading me to track down a spare power supply. I switched out the old one only to discover that the power supply, was in fact, bricked and was the cause of the problems.

When I returned the new parts to Red Barn they refused to refund me, despite having sold me the parts on their bad diagnostic advice.

Red Barn offered store credit on the return and took the parts to test them. The following week Red Barn called me to tell me that my credit order was ready but when I went into the store they handed me the parts back and wouldn't give me the return. Red Barn claimed the parts were fried and couldn't be resold.

The parts weren't fried when I returned them. Red Barn said I must have done it with a bad standoff. Only problem with their accusation is that I did the assembly on an anti-static mat so the parts never touched standoffs or my case.

This is the same place that couldn't correctly identify a dead power supply so my suspicions that their carelessness and/or incompetence harmed the parts during testing are justified.

Red Barn wanted to charge $25 more to RMA the parts, I passed so I could do it myself. Chances are good that they would fail at that too.

After having experience with both Red Barn Computer's repair services and sales departments I cannot recommend this store to anyone for any reason whatsoever.

This was not just the worst computer parts retail experience I've ever had, it was by far the worst retail experience I've ever had of any type.

The combination of deception and baseless accusations make Red Barn's business practices downright offensive, inappropriate, and undeniably bush league amateur.

I knew that brick and mortar stores were having trouble competing with primarily online retailers, but I never expected Red Barn Computers to resort to lying and cheating the customer.

The staff at Red Barn seem to be very knowlegible. They really know what they are talking about when it comes to computers. I have gone there to buy some accesories for my laptop, and was very satisfied. They have fair prices. Also, they have a really neat website, you should check it out. They are really willing to help you with any trouble that you might be having with your computer!

Red Barn computers has a very nice selection of high end computers. They seem to be aimed more towards the gamers, but they can make a computer to match any needs. I like the upgrade selection they have there. I have gotten some really killer deals on things like memory and hubs.
