We went to Tom's for breakfast on my boyfriend's birthday, as he is a big Seinfeld fan! I went because I know he wanted to but it was great! The outside only is the Seinfeld bit, they didn't film inside. It was a traditional, comfortable diner. The waitresses looked miserable but they were helpful & polite. The menu was huge - I had corned beef hash, potatoes & eggs easy-over plus coffee with a free re-fill. There seemed to be students & locals of all ages eating & those that didn't finish were taking their doggy bags with them! All in all, we had fun & a tasty breakfast. I would recommend :)

Pros: Massive menu, good prices

Cons: A liitle trek to get to

If you're a seinfeld enthusiast and love milk shakes! Tom's is a must! The service is terrible and they barely passed their food inspection, so just keep that in mind.

Visiting and of course had to go to Toms restaurant! There were 4 of us, it was around 3 pm, so lunch was over, not ready for dinner. We ordered 1 ice tea, 2 diet cokes and 1 shake with a piece of pie. Bill was about $20. On the menu it says free refills, when one of the diet cokes was asked to be refilled, the extremely rude old waitress picked up the bill and added $2.50 on it! We asked about the free refills and in her broken accent she said. You no eat, no refill for you! Explained that we did have a piece of pie (which was horrible) She said again, no eat no refill! Needless to say she had us out the door in minutes. Now its just a story about how rude they are!

Cons: Rude

Tom's is a mediocre diner at best and certainly not the top choice for those who live in the neighborhood. There's just nothing special about it other than everyone in the world saw it Seinfeld for 8 or 9 years. In fact if you want some great coffee and unbelievable french toast go half a block up to Deluxe.

This is the place for a) Seinfeld addicts and b) drunk or studied-out students to find great cheese fries and wonderful shakes (the Broadway isn't on the menu, but just ask for it).

In addition to friendly tolerant staff the food is what you expect from a diner, plus the delight of having Seinfeld paraphernalia around you makes for good conversation.

Ok, this Diner is awesome. Not only is the food very tasty and the service is great, they also have a bunch of Seinfeld gear! Totally cool. Check out Tom's!

Pros: Tasty Food, Service, Seinfeld feel.

This is the Seinfeld diner, it is fun and quirky. It's moderately priced and the waitresses are nice... for NYC.

I went to this famous restaurant with a buddy for fun more than anything else, and it turned out to be reasonably priced, with great service and delicious breakfast food! Not sure about other meals though. Plus Seinfeld memorabilia!

I ordered a chicken feta wrap and it had BACON in it! And when I called the waitress over to verify, she didn't even apologize, even when I explained that I don't eat pork. She said she'd tell the man at the register, but when we went to pay, he only knocked $2 off the entire bill of my friends and my food!
It wasn't like I found an awry piece of cabbage--pork products are a big deal--particularly in NYC.

I frequent this restaurant because I think the food is decent and I live around the area. However, until this Saturday noon I had never experienced such rude service at a restaurant. I was eating with 3 other friends. We finished and within a couple of minutes, the waitress hands us our check and the owner (I later asked the waitress about his role) came to us and said to the effect "Are you guys done yet? Because I have a of people waiting outside. Please hurry up"

We just finished eating!! And the table next to us was empty! I really don't understand the management style there.

Pros: Food is ok

Cons: Really bad service

It's a pretty standard diner. The menu isn't extensive but the food was pretty good for diners and decently priced.
As for the waitstaff, they were standard--not too nice, not too friendly, can be at times nice, rude, etc. I would say everything about this place is pretty average for a diner. The one thing that sets it apart from the rest of the diners out there is the popularity thing tagged to it (The show Seinfeld used the restaurant's name). The inside looks nothing like how it looked in the tv show.

I say, "surprisingly" because after reading the reviews on here I was kind of dreading it. But the service was quick and friendly - what more could you ask?

There was too much choice on the menu and the prices were good, I thought.

I tipped $7 (I can't remember how much the meal was, I think the tax was less than $2, so I hope it was good!) and asked when I paid if $7 sounded okay, to be told it was too much!!

My only advice is - GO HUNGRY - the portions there are killer. I thought I was going to the electric chair afterwards... :o)

We were pleasantly surprised to find the food at Tom's to be incredibly tasty. We ordered the chicken fingers, pastrami, fries, chicken noodle soup, pancakes, chocolate milkshake and chocolate ice cream. All of these basics were done very well. Especially enjoyable were the chicken fingers which were the best we had ever had. The coating was golden brown and crispy, and the chicken was juicy, tender and flavorful. We will most certainly return to try other enticing menu options.

I don't care about its Seinfeld history - the food absolutely disgusting.
I wouldn't eat there if it was free.

Toms is a great little diner on the corner of Broadway and 112th Streets. You may recognize it as the restaurant used in the show Seinfeld. Aside from this fame, the place is still worth a visit. It is a true, old-school diner in just about every way. The waitresses are matter of fact (perhaps abrasive at times), the prices are cheap, and the food comes very quick. The restaurant isn't enormous, but it's big enough.

Cash only. Worth a trip in.

Too bad there's not that many 24 hour diners in this area, because sometimes it feels like you're forced to go there when you need a quick meal. I find their prices to be jacked up way too much. This is most likely because: 1. Columbia University is right they and they may feel students have money for pay that tuition, then they can afford an overpriced meal. 2. Seinfeld. Their "claim to fame".

It's even more horrible that they get away with it. I've been to this dinner a handful of times, and I've never been blown away with their menu. 5 bux for 2 eggs and bacon? Call me cheap, but youv'e got to be kidding me. Their service is alright, but I've never felt bad leaving a bad tip there. Unless it's a must, you would find better elsewhere.

some of the waitresses are nice...but there's one lady that just makes it go right out of the door...with this lady...the service is rude and mean...she wants you in and out of the restaurant as fast as possible, frowns upon college kids who apparently eat too slow and buy too little, don't respect that college kids are paying customers too ! i was asked if i wanted coffee when i walked in the door. i didn't know what i was going to order, so i said no. when i ended up ordering my meal, i got a combo meal and it came with coffee. when i later asked (nicely)if i could have coffee (not "WHERE IS MY COFFEE?"), the lady obnoxiously said "you SAID you didn't want any !"... needless to say, this was not my first bad experience with this lady. otherwise, decent food. decent prices. try the gyro

ok. first of all. there are NO hot waitresses or waiters. the service is rude, but very quick. the menu isnt so much delightful as just typical of a diner! their food is decent (a bit overpriced since remodeling last year) although i could make a better grilled cheese in the dorms. pretty damn good, after a night out at the bars, but oh-so-NOT romantic. oh and just to clarify: at toms a cheeseburger special means it comes with fries while the deluxe has lettuce and tomato on it. haha. now THATS fine dining.

Tom's is just a step away from enlightenment. Tom's clean, friendly booths, beautiful waitresses and extensive, quintessentially-diner menu will leave you feeling as though you have reached the Shangri-La of diners, the diner to end all diners, the crowning achievement of New York Civilization. Also it is nearly always open.
