My favorite bookstore. I'm always looking in the philosophy section. Then the architecture. After that, everything else. The staff is first rate, and the customers are amazing. I said hello (almost) to Sam Shepard.

NEVER under any circumstances sell your used anything to these guys. They are pirates and rip-off artists of the first-order. Take your stuff to the Strand instead. You are guaranteed to get 3 times what Mercer offers...at least.

Hate to give away my secrets but this is one of the best bookstores I know of for graphic novels. 2nd hand is good because these tend to be pricey. Worth stopping by to check often.

This is one of the last great NYC neighborhood used book stores. Besides art books and vintage records, they also have a good collection of plays, scripts and anthologies, both current and classics. It's the type of place where you can still find an occasional surprise really good deal! Open seven days a week until late. Definitely worth a visit!

Although they specialize in used art books and other non-fiction subjects, this Soho store also has a nice record collection. They specialize in literary fiction, art, photography, philosophy, architecture and French language books. I love coming here and spending hours looking at everything they have.

We go there often and I always find something different and interesting. Extensive literary fiction selection, philosophy and French books. The rest of family like the art and photography.

Pros: Good selection, old bookstore ambience

Cons: None

Forget the actual merchandise they have here, the staff is the rudest I have ever come across - you're better off going to the Strand. The owner himself was rude and short, completely unhelpful.

This book store carries books that are usually hard to find or out of print. Mostly books that you would study rather than read for fun. They have books on photography, art, languages those kind of subjects. I would skip the record section since a lot of the cd's are overpriced and not in the best condition.
