Shady auto shop for bicycles. They'll quote you something and charge you differently.
An employee there once performed a service that took no longer than 10 seconds (removing pedals from a bike) and tried to charge $8, which was of course negotiable down to $6 because there's no rhyme or reason to the way they manage their business.
Smart business tactic - lose a customer for life over $6.
Avoid this place at all costs.

I went to this store for some new components, I asked them for the highest quality, and didn't mind if it took some time to source the components. They installed whatever they had lying around the shop, then lied to me about what the components were (regardless of the big stickers and labels saying that they weren't). When I called them on it they abusive with me, it was ridiculous. This after calling in several time to ensure I was getting what I asked for and was just plain lied to, over, and over, and over again, over the phone, and to my face.

don't go near this place unless you want to be ripped off and lied to.

Pros: there's lot's of other bike stores

THE MOST HUMBLE AND KNOLAGABLE CREW I HAVE EVER MET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY TREAT EACH CUSTOMER AS THEIR FIRST, LAST, AND ONLY THEY WILL SEE FOR THE DAY. WHEN SOME-ONE GIVES THAT MUCH PERSONAL ATTENTION, THEY MADE A LIFER OUT OF ME,CONCIDERING I AM A DIFFICULT PERSON TO SATISFY. WHAT IS THE SENCE OF A GOOD DEAL IF YOU CAN'T GET THE SERVICE TO BACK IT UP .WHEN I NEEDED SERVICE ON MY BIKE THEY ALWAYS EXPLAINED ALL OPPTIONS TO SAVE MONEY AND IMMPRESS SAFTY. THEY STAND BEHIND ALL WARRENTEES THEY HAVE.SO MUCH IN FACT WHEN MY BIKE WAS STOLLEN I DECIDED TO BUY ANOTHER BIKE FROM THEM. MANY TIMES SERVICE WAS GO HAVE A CUP OF COFFEE , COME BACK AND RIDE AWAY. THEIR SHOP WARRENTEES ARE NOT LIKE ANY I HAVE SEEN IN THE AREA, BUT THE GREATEST OF ALL IS THEY WERE MORE INTERISTED IN THE KIND OF RIDING I WAS DOING AND TO BE SURE OF MY FIT AND COMFORT.I NEVER EXPECTED THIS TREATMENT, BECAUSE THEY STAYED IN MY BUDGET WHICH WAS NOT THAT BIG. Well, these two who have posted here already had a good experience, but I did not. I was waiting and waiting to be helped and basically felt ignored. And the thing is, the store is not that big, I mean, you couldn't miss me standing there. Finally, when someone did ask me if I needed something, they seemed annoyed with my questions. I left feeling like they had just made a decision at some point that I wasn't worth their time. What can I say, maybe your experience will be different, but I won't recommend this place to anyone I know. There's plenty of bike shops around here to choose from.

I think I first came to Chelsea bikes to repair a buckled wheel. They repaired it on the spot, I rode away a happy camper.... I've since become a loyal customer - I have been able to rely on expert advice and choice on purchases - from entry level to pro gear. Even when I've shopped around the city for alternatives, I've always ended up back here. I have never been pressured into a sale, and I've never been sold something that I don't need. They have a great team of repair experts who seem like they could fix any issue. Purchasing my bike through the store, they give me two free services a year. Any tweaks on recent work is happily performed with no dramas (i.e. getting gears adjusted after some chain stretch). It's great to see the relationship these guys have with all types from the local community, from families with dinky kids bikes, to cycle nuts seeking the bees knees in gear.

Pros: Open late, friendly, helpful, knowledgeable

I have been to many of the bike shops in the City and have had the same problems that everyone always writes about: poor customer service, unknowledgable staff, etc. Look no farther. Daniel and Raffie keep their troops in line here and really know what they are talking about. They go to great lengths to make you feel like you are walking away with some knowledge about components, accessories and everything bike related. This is what you've been looking for. Sid's on 34th is literally a block away from me but I will ride here any day instead of going there.

Pros: Staff, value, selection, quality of rentals

Cons: I wish it was closer
