.

I was quoted $300-$400 to move 336 cubic feet of banker's boxes that had been in storage, a distance of 60 miles in-state. Less than a week before the move, I was told that because the load weighed so much, the job would instead cost $700-$800. But the weight that the company cited included the metal containers *inside* which the boxes had been stored. The containers were to be unloaded, not moved, so the revised quote was based on a weight about 30 percent too high, and included $300 for mere driving time. The company repeatedly failed to return calls during the two weeks before the move; when I finally reached an employee and the owner, both were *extremely* rude; and when we protested the last-minute price increase of more than 100 percent, they told us to find someone else to do the job. This was in June, peak moving season. I did hire three local men and a U-Haul truck, paid the men very generously for two hours of labor and two hours of travel time, and got the whole job done for $400 plus gas and lunch.
