Reviews for Lincoln Plaza Cinemas

Ratings_icons Great

Generally I am forced to go to this theater b/c when a movie I want to see first opens, this is the only theater it is playing at. The theater itself is fine, but beware of the crowd--it is rowdier and ruder then a crowd at a midnight showing of the Matrix at AMC 42nd st. I'm not kidding, if you want to see a movie get there at least 20 minutes early and then don't get up, I literally once saw an old man fighting with a women who was saving a seat for her husband while he went to the bathroom and the old man insisted that that was against the rules.

Ratings_icons I love every movie at this theater

I love to see movies at Lincoln Plaza Cinemas because I know I will not be disappointed. They specialize in foreign, independent, or artsy movies that have all won multiple film festival awards. I know that when I see a movie there, it has already earned critical acclaim. The snack bar is unsual in that smoked salmon is served there, and the crowd tends to be older and more sophisticated than your av-e-r-age theater. Still, you're very likely to see a good flick!

Ratings_icons Outdated and uncomfortable

This movie theater needs to join the 21st century. The theaters only seat around 100, and I've seen bigger screens in friends' homes. The sound is terrible and the seats of course are not stadium so you have to peer around people's heads to see. For $10.50 per person (no student discounts) it is a huge rip off. I think this theater does a lot of independent films though which is the only only reason you would go.

Ratings_icons This is one of the worst movie theaters in Manhattan.

Pat n. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,446

I've been to about every single movie theatre in Manhattan - and this is really the only one i refuse to go back to. The seats are old and gross - they should really look into getting new ones. The screens are small and the security (yes, the employees all act as if they were security guards) is just plain hostile. They even get ruder when you're trying to go to the bathroom. If you're looking into the independent films that are usually played here - go to the Angelika. Highly un-recommended.

PROS:
CONS: bad employees, small screens, gross seats, dirty bathroom

Ratings_icons The selction picked here is of foriegn tastes and of intellectual demeaner

The theater is usually jam packed when its a popular film and even when it doesn't seem popular - watch out ! - you could be headed into a crowd. Even though this theater at times draws a lot of people , the seats are spacious enough to allow one to sit and enjoy the show and see the movie since the seats are well placed.
