I actually was just searching avanti's phone number with google and saw this website pop up first on google and saw all these negative reviews and I am literally shocked. I was brought to Avanti one day like 2 years ago with one of my close friends and have been going ever since. From the girls at the front desk to all the hair dressers to the ladies who do nails and to the ladieswho do the waxing I have yet to come across one nasty person. As soon as you walk in they always greet you with a smile take you where you need to go and ask you if you need anything. I always loved how my hair would come out and I get waxed there too, the salon as a whole is a great place and for people to sit there and bash it is just ridiculous. I know people have bad experiences at places here and there but that is life no where you go is perfect plus think about the people you come across I'm sure that one person or however many who claim their experience wasn't good probably is an extremely picky person, has a problem with one of the girls or just pictured their hair to come out in a different way; who knows. I'm just saying for people who never been there before from my experience it really is a great salon so don't believe the negative reviews and try it for yourself. I wish I didn't write this review because now I'm going to be waiting behind all these new customers lol

Honestly though, if you most of you have SO much problems with the way Avanti is (the hair stylists, the way they dress, talk, act,etc) what is your reason exactly for going there? CLEARLY you guys keep going back if you apparently have oh so much to say. Half of you either can't afford Avanti and feel embarrassed to go there and the other half of you are dumb jealous hair salon owners that don't have a successful business like Avanti. Why are you people complaining about how the people are dressed there? There are grandmothers, grandfathers, and others that come in not in the latest louboutins or chanel or pradas, but obviously they still go, RELAX with the over dramatic exasperations.
The best part of the whole salon is the waxing. Vicky. Vicky is the best waxer I have ever experienced, makes you feel comfortable, talks to you, very quick and does the perfect job that no one can do. Vicky is the #1 cosmetologist ever! If you need a wax, Vicky is the only person you can trust.

After all the bad reViews I almost cancelled but my sister in law got great color there so I went with my friend. The other reviews must have been written by other salons cause everyone was super mice and professional! The shop is extremely clean and bright! Everyone was helpful. My hair looks beyond amazing!! Diedre did a fantastic job my husband didn't recognize me. My highlights look natural no zebra stripes. They blend in beautifully. I found the only place I will ever go to again! Thanks D!!!

Went here for 2 years before I had enough! Stylists dont listen to what you ask, they do whatever they want. Front desk girls are snobby and rude. Worst of all they are SO overpriced it's ridiculous!! Will never go back.

Although it may not take much education to start a hair salon, they must be smarter than most if they can afford they're mercedes and huge houses. Instead of being bitter that you didnt think of this supposedly easy profession first, why dont you work on bettering yourself so that one day you will in their shoes. They think theyre better than you because they probably are. I have never had rudeness from anyone at this salon. I've gone to Avanti for years and i only stopped going because im currently STUDYING cosmetology to do hair myself.
Thats right b i t c h, you study for this profession. Its a craft, not a god given gift.

I find them to be very good, down their collective noses, yes some of them, but that's something I refuese to play into, if someone wants to be a star in their own mind that's their deal not mine.

I love the woman who does my hair I have been going to her for over nine years now, when she does my colour or hightlites they look great. I don't find them pricey, they are par for the course.

I used to go to Dorina before she "quit." and i swear she was the only colorist that didn't put zebra stripes highlights. I would never trust anyone of the other colorists to touch my hair. That's because I learned from experience I let someone else dye my hair there and I went from chesnut to burnt black o.O

I have been to many salons, I live in Brooklyn and I still choose to go to Avanti. In my nail salon a girl heard me complain that my then hair dresser was making my hair too gold and not getting me the paler blonde I liked. She said that George at Avanti was great and reasonably priced. First time I went to him he fixed the previous color I had and I have been going back since. Now my cut and color costs less than just a haircut did in my old salon.

I went to Avanti on a recommendation and the first time I walked in the dorr i felt judged because I didn't have the newest prada bag and shoes. However the girl that cut my hair was nice and did a good job. I went back a second time and i had about 4 people do my highlights and for about 3 seconds the colorist did. All the assistants were doing the work and had NO CLUE as to what they were doing. I have long hair and its thick but relatively straight. When my stylist went to blow dry my hair she called over 2 people to help blow dry my "thick unmanageable hair" I do my own hair in 20 minutes and when the 3 people were done it looked like i had 2 different styles on my head. Just terrible.. I now go to a salon that is wonderful, genuinely nice people, truly talented, and only the stylist touches your head and takes the time. Touche on Hylan across from the precinct

I've been going to Avanti Salon for 5 years now and I have not experienced any of the negative remarks that people are writing about. I have not heard other languages spoken, I have not seen any snobby or stand offish workers. Everyone has been courteous and professional. The girls at the front desk are nice and professional, complimenting on the finished product whether a haircut or color. I have not seen giggles or laughing at customers. I think people do not know what a good business is and they are the ones that are paranoid and are not use to excellent service., like any business whether it is a dental office or hair salon, people (customers)have their own quirks and can get very picky and whine and complain and can never be satisfied. The end....

Ive been going to this salon for almost fifteen years. I hope that the salon owners will read these reviews and improve on the areas that seriously need improvement.

1. All colorists should be informed by management to stop talking to others and focus when they are coloring or highlighting someones hair. The client is paying A LOT of money to have this service performed and it is unfair and unprofessional for a colorist to engage in gossip or incessant talk while coloring someones hair.

Each time I visit this salon, my colorist engages in talking in a foreign language with at least three other women. The talk consists of gossip that continues for the entire time she is coloring my hair. The end result is a poor color job from a colorist that is not focused on what she is doing. This is unprofessional and wrong.

The last time this happened I was ready to explode after listening to all these women gossip in a foreign language for almost an hour, and my hair was not done properly.

The colorist was sloppy in the highlight application because she was too busy turning her head to finish her conversation to actually look at where she was applying the highlights.

Ive also had the colorist drop highlight mix onto my face, almost missing my eye because she was too busy talking. THIS IS WRONG AND UNPROFESSIONAL.

2. All colorists should keep an information card on each client. This is not only smart but a courtesy to essential to using the correct color for each different person. It is impossible for a colorist to remember the exact formula used on each client. IMPOSSIBLE.

3. The addition of essential oils into cellophane treatments and other hair treatments needs to stop. The essential oils burn the scalp and cause it to become red and injured.

4. When a client tells the colorist of a problem, the colorist should LISTEN. Especially if the problem is about an injured scalp problem.

5. I do think this is a great salon with talented colorists but the attitudes of some of the employees need improvement. Remember you have a job because of the people that patronize this salon and for no other reason than that.

Reality check: Do you realize you are working in a job that requires little education? Yet you act like who you are which is really no one.

It is very apparent to everyone that you have no social skills whatsoever and possibly you have mental problems.

If you have no people skills then learn some. If you have mental issues than seek counseling.

Your attitudes are aggravating and you just make yourself look like an idiot when you act that way. The only woman who doesnt do this is Kim I believe ive never had a bad experience with her she is down to earth.

6. The prices are too high. Are you aware that so many women do not come back to your salon anymore? They go elsewhere to get their hair done now because your prices are sky high.

Customers are willing to pay for quality hair color but not for your new mercedes or home. Keeping this in mind willl help you to keep the customers you do have.

7. Avanti needs to use good quality hair color that does not injure the hair or scalp of its clients. Obviously switching to the cheaper brands has caused a lot of women hair loss and injured scalp problems.

Would it take a law suit against you or several law suits of women joining together to sue you for damaging their scalp, before you actually make some improvements?

This is a very real possiblity for you if you do not inform your staff now of the right things to do with clients.

I have gone to Avanti Salon for approximately 11 years. At first, even though always very expensive, I did not mind paying since they used quality products and gave me beautiful highlights (two-toned blonde) - however, over the past 2-3 years, I have been very dissatisfied - the hair-coloring products they are now using are of lesser quality - my colorist does not pay attention to what I am telling her - you cannot even notice my highlights when I have my hair done now -- and the blonde color is now very "yellowish" - no matter how many times I mention it to my colorist - my hair is also becoming very dry even though I get expensive cellophane treatments and use only their products on my hair. I do not know what happened to this salon since I deemed it as one of the best. I am very unhappy with them and would not recommend anyone going to them at this time. Perhaps if they read all of their reviews on Insider Pages, they would pay more attention to their customers - and not the money they are making! Anonymous

I have been going to Avanti since I first started high school, and still am a loyal and satisfied client of theirs, 10 years later. :)
I always enjoyed the staff, atmosphere, the outcome of my look as well as the economical prices. I have been paying about the same amount for my highlights and haircuts over the years. This makes me real happy, because I'm getting the best services available, for a much more reasonable price (other salons on the island, are way over priced, and they're little rinky dink salons). I know I will always have the latest in hairstyles, and the products they use are awesome. I color my hair very frequently, and it's so silky & shiny even without using any styling products. I also like the fact that I can get my nails and waxing done, all in one stop. It's really convenient.
To all the "BAD" reviews listed on this page: I really don't know what all the complaints are about. All my family and friends are clients of Avanti, and are extremely pleased!! The staff is professional, experienced, fashion forward, and nice. !!!!
Take my word for it: "It is the place to be on Staten Island!!"
I look forward to my appointment in 2 weeks.

I have been going to Avanti for the past 3 years, and travelling quite a long distance. I honestly just want to get my hair done well, so I really don't pay any mind to any "rudeness" that may occur in the salon. The stylist I have used, consistently does a beautiful job, cutting and highlighting my thin, fine hair. After my first color job approximately 2 years ago, I my scalp was red and inflamed for a few weeks and I noticed a lot of hair coming out for about a month or so following the color. During and after the process, my head was burning significantly, and when I told the stylist; she blew it off saying that it was because I washed my hair early that morning (I had not been planning on having highlights done; it was a last minute decision which she was willing to accommodate). Each time I had it colored after that, the same situation of excessive burning, with scalp redness, inflammation, and more hair loss for about a month or so after the color. Upon returning, I made the stylist aware of the symptoms, and she would always have some excuse as to why this was occurring, but never seemed genuinely interested in the fact that I was losing more and more hair. She was always more than willing to color and do as much as possible which would jack up the bill. In July of last year, I was in a very well lit dressing room and became frantic when I saw my hair and noticed that my scalp had become very visible. Since then, I have been seen by a dermatologist and an endocrinologist. I was found to have a thyroid issue, which can cause hair loss. However, after I had explained to the endocrinologist that I only notice hair loss after highlighting/low lighting at this salon (I had highlights done close to where I was living and did not experience this problem with the product they used; the hairdresser also showed more concern about my hair loss and was very diligent, making sure not to get the color too close to my scalp. My endocrinologist felt that since hair loss only occurred post highlighting, the product they were using at Avanti was probably too harsh on my hair, and that my hair was not growing back properly due to my thyroid issues.

I let my color grow out for several months. This week, I was in town and decided to renew my look at Avanti., since the last time I had it done by a different stylist the problem did not occur. As I tried to explain all of this to my stylist, she would cut me off defensively with ridiculous rationales for all that has happened to my hair. She was still very willing to apply highlights to my hair. I kid you not, I was in the middle of talking and she rushed away to go mix the color. I explained that I did not experience this problem when I had it done at a different salon, and that they used a gel low light color, and did not place the highlights too close to my scalp. I only had her do partial highlights in the front and after about 10 minutes I requested that everything be removed as my scalp was burning badly. All she kept doing was ranting about how she does not understand what is causing this issue. I left there with ORANGE highlights. I was still charged for the cut and color. My scalp has been burning since yesterday and there are patches of redness underneath the roots of each highlight. I called to speak with the owner, who also continued to argue that this occurrence is impossible since highlights do not touch the scalp. My highlight color is about 1 mm away from my scalp. When I asked her to leave extra space between the highlight and my scalp, I would think that means more than 1 mm. Imagine if she did not leave "extra" space. The owner was willing to refund my money, but could not care less about my issue or even showed an interest in obtaining information to prevent this from reoccurring in anyone else. She continued to debate the possibility of this occurring. I think this extends beyond other people's concerns about rudeness. This is neglectful, careless, and poor business conduct. I am scared to death, about how much hair loss is going to occur over the next couple months now that I am once again burned. My scalp was already visible prior to this event.

I have been going to Avanti for the past 3 years, and travelling quite a long distance. I honestly just want to get my hair done well, so I really don't pay any mind to any "rudeness" that may occur in the salon. The stylist I have used, consistently does a beautiful job, cutting and highlighting my thin, fine hair. After my first color job approximately 2 years ago, I my scalp was red and inflamed for a few weeks and I noticed a lot of hair coming out for about a month or so following the color. During and after the process, my head was burning significantly, and when I told the stylist; she blew it off saying that it was because I washed my hair early that morning (I had not been planning on having highlights done; it was a last minute decision which she was willing to accommodate). Each time I had it colored after that, the same situation of excessive burning, with scalp redness, inflammation, and more hair loss for about a month or so after the color. Upon returning, I made the stylist aware of the symptoms, and she would always have some excuse as to why this was occurring, but never seemed genuinely interested in the fact that I was losing more and more hair. She was always more than willing to color and do as much as possible which would jack up the bill. In July of last year, I was in a very well lit dressing room and became frantic when I saw my hair and noticed that my scalp had become very visible. I see how there are many people who can't get past the staffs rudeness. The woman who I go to (when I do go there) is so COLD/rude/snobby, she barely says hi, doesn't smile, and gives me the same old style regardles of the slight changes I ask her to incorporate. I've been on her black-list since she made leopard spots on the hair of a woman I reccomended to her, and after I complained about her coloring my roots to RED when my hair (which had only been colored there by her) was BROWN! She said she doesn't make color cards on clients as she doesn't need to. Apparently she is wrong. Now I color my own hair. I have gone other places and somehow they don't cut as good so I come back, but always feel like a fool going back to an abusive mate. I tried another haircutter in the salon, but the results were not as skilled. I feel like she is annoyed that she has to waste her time on me, thats not a good thing.

Been going here for 11 years out of fear of change but when your colorist/stylist does highlights every 2nd visit, you start to wonder why so frequently. My hair started to look burnt and when I told her it was washed out, she put some lowlights in and still charged me. That turned me off to this place because I think after 11 yrs, when steady customer says they are unhappy, they could have fixed the problem at no cost but the owners are money hungry in this salon. They are on Staten Island but think they're on Madison Avenue. I finally dumped them and couldn't be happier with my new salon at half the price!

I've been going to Avanti for at least five years and using the same stylist. Now after all the thousands of dollars spent there I feel like this stylist/colorist is not paying attention to what I tell her or how she applies color and highlights to my hair. I know she has the talent to do the job but I'm considering using someone else now because I've been disappointed more than once. She never listens about the cut that's why I don't let her cut it anymore. I like the place but I too have heard the gossipy stylists make fun of clients. And could they do something different with that MUSIC and Fashion Show! And Manager in the summer think Air Conditioning!

I went to Avanti to get my hair cut... I loved the people at Avanti. The people at the front desk were really nice and down to earth. The prices at Avanti are reasonable and good deals. My hair always looks great and the color near perfect everytime. The front desk is friendly and professional. Yes, they speak in another language to each other, but I have never felt intimidated by that. I recommend this shop, highly.

I agree that the girls behind the desk are very snotty but that doesnt stop me from going to my favoorite hairdresser. Whom i think is one of the best at the salon. She is quick when she does her job not only is she quick but she does an awesome job. I go in every saturday and i always feel welcomed. They are a little pricey but its not quantity its about quality and you do pay for what u get....i recommend this salon to alot of people and alot of my friends have gone here and liked it. All i got to say is attitude adjusments are a must but other then that its a good high end salon!!

I figured that getting a whole head of highlights/lowlights, cut that i would walk out of there feeling like a million bucks. WRONG. They were so snooty. the girls working there that washed my hair were wetting me with the sprayer, Oh sorry, and they snickered. I felt like they were talking about me. When i went home I had a huge chunk of my hair underneath cut off, it took me a year to grow it back. Never have i been treated like that in my life. I felt like crying. the girls there need a huge attitude adjustment and the manager should do something about it.

Avanti is one of the worst salons I have ever been to. They are never paying attention to your hair and always talking about you to the other stylist, In font of your face!! They all think their better then everyone and anyone that walks through their doors! all this and you get charged an arm and a leg! No wonder they have been losing so many customers!

As others have stated . . Avanti is VERY expensive, but they do a great job on your hair . . . . at least some of the stylists do! Make sure you ask for an experienced stylist before you go! I started going to this salon on a whim . . I needed a salon and was familiar with their location from driving by . . . I called and made an appt and unknown to me, was placed with a very new stylist. I stuck with her because I liked the cut the first time, but then it got old and she seemed to have a problem with change . . Other then being dissatisfied with haircuts, highlights and being rushed through appointments . . . if you still make an appointment, sit back and look around as Avanti is a great place to people watch . . .

Avanti salon is a high class salon on a small island. This salon offers professional and personal accommodations to all clientele. The salon as well as the staff are extraordinary. Compared to most salons on Staten Island, Avanti prices are not unreasonable. You always come out looking your best. Everyone always looks stylish, creating a certain atmosphere in the salon for all who enter. The girls work hard to create an organized and professional space for the employees as well as the customers. In Avanti you are more than a client you are family!

The salon is gorgeous. The stylists are great at what they do. Unfortunately, it's apparent that it's gone to THEIR heads. My hair did come out awesome...for a few hundred dollars, not including product and tip. I suppose with that, I'd like to receive incredible customer service, kindness, and respect. There were a group of stylists just sitting around making fun of all the clients, as if they were in a Shakespearean aside....or perhaps the cone of silence.

If I owned or managed that shop, I'd be sure to teach these artists basic social skills. They may also want to teach the front desk receptionists some organizational and customer service skills, as they seemed flustered and out of control. Great haircut and color...but a word of advice. They only work in a shop you know....they can drop the attitude.

I went there once to have my hair highlighted and it came out ok but it also cost a pretty penny. I now get the same accomplished for half the price. The employees that work in there are always dressed to the nines so you feel like you need to get dressed in order to step into the place.

PROS: They do a good job with hair!
CONS: Very pricey!
