The vibe is thick with history; they say this was one of Billie Holliday's spots and you can definitely feel it in the walls. There is an eclectic music program with a big dose of Samba-Jazz. The more I go the more I feel at home and love it.

Pros: Its a part of what makes New York special.

Cons: Hard to grab a table.

.

Love the new space, even though I miss the intimacy from the old one -it's great to see bands now with 6-12 pieces, which they never could have fit in the old space. Been there a few nights now and have been amazed at the quality of music each and every time. The staff is attentive and friendly, and the vibe is fun. Definitely recommend a visit. On west 3rd street now.

When I heard that the Zinc Bar had moved, I was concerned that the change in locale might spoil it's great vibe. Unfortunately it was far worse than I could have imagined. Although the space is much larger (including better bathroom facilities which were much needed), it now longer has the same cool atmosphere. Admittedly, I was there on a Monday, a slower night, but it had the air of the sort of jazz club that the tourist bus might pull up too. Most of the clientele were elderly and the two acts were just plain bad.....a first in my years as a patron. How sad. It might still be worth it for a notable act, but not for hanging out.

had a great time at zinc bar. the music was great. probably the best place in nyc to enjoy brazilian song (and a little bit of dance). though the band could have benefitted from a little bit more organisation, talent was there. best of all was the attentive service. cocktail waitress and bar tender made one feel welcome and comfortable and added to the excitement. i would highly recommend this place whether u like brazilian music or not. it is fun and relaxing to hang out with friends or even alone

I went on a date to this place, so my friend he looked this great bar online and the music should be great since the advertised ethno Jazz. there was a $5 cover charge posted online and a minimum of ONE drink. we go there, and the cover charge is $8 instead, the jazz that I was hoping to listen to was a mix of African and Caribbean music, the place was so crwoded you could barely see one member of the musicians....never mind that the pushy waitress kept bugging us because there was a minimum of TWO drinks! the drinks over priced (no one should pay $24 for two drinks in a place that unhip!) a big disappointment. I do NOT recommend this bar. they lied about the cover charge and drinks and on top of that the type of music.

Cons: Over priced, lied about cover and minum drinks, services pressures you, no music advertised

The jazz band was outstanding. Especially the singer, Michelle Manzo.

The place was extremely hot that night. They apparently thought it was cold enough outside to not run the AC. They were wrong. Everybody was complaining of the heat that night.

Other complaint, one of the busboys had the most terribly unbearable body odor! Sounds funny, but in a place this small, it's disgusting. Every time he went by he left a trail of unpleasantness. Management should notice and tell him to do something. I don't care where you're from or what your customs are, when you work in a place and it affects people, you should learn to adopt the American custom known as "deodorant."

Came across the Zinc Bar on recent travels and it immediately became the highlght. Went back on three consecutive nights and who cares about the cost of drinks when you can listen to musicians like Craig Lewis. Despite work, the Zinc bar held my attraction until the end of the early morning sets on each night - I will definately return on my next visit to the Big A.

Thanks Zinc, you have made a visiting English bloke really mellow.

Pros: Live jazz, the stars, the late nights, the throbbing walls and the talent

Cons: Cramped, is it possible to be even better? Hard to see bands

My friend and I have been there 3 times and we just LOVE IT! The first time we went was on a Friday and it was African Jazz night. We really liked it although we didn't understand the language :) The second time we went was on a Saturday which was Brazilian night. Ther peformance was great although we didn't get to stay until the end. The last (and third) time we went was on a Thursday for latin night. I have to say Latin night was my favorite night. We stayed for two sets! The music was great!
Overall, the place is wonderful. The server is always nice and the fact that she can remember everyones drink is amazing to me. The atmosphere is nice and cozy with a slightly cramped feel if your neighbors are rude.
Highly recommended.

A place where the musicians and public geto so close that belongs, this place, to the old space where the fathers of the Jazz, played. It is a must for jazz lovers and I choose this club following the recomendation of Pablo Calogero, one the best saxo player of the New York scene. He was right. If you like jazz in NYC you have to go there

I went on a Monday night and it was just crowded enough. Talk about underground this place literally is underground. We got seats and have a great view of the gorgeous Mariani singing Bossa Nova. I went to many bars while in New York and this is the only one that is truly different from bars in L.A. and the only one that I will make a point to go back to.

Pros: Inexpensive, small

For people who love good music, this is a great place. Of course it's packed and uncomfortable. That's not the point. Great, great, musicians in an intimate and inexpensive environment. Nice acoustics to boot.

I was looking for a jazz bar, and visited Zinc. I left with a terrible experience to look back on. The back room where we were seated is cozy, but you are no way exposed to the live entertainment. You pay $5 to get in, and they take your coat, hang it up and then demand $4 for coat check. Drinks are not too bad, although the waitress told me my champagne was $6, then proceeded to charge me $10. My date and I were there 45 minutes, the entertainment was poor, the drinks mediocre, and I felt the staff will try to weasle every penny they can. Don't go.

This is cheap Brazillian enternainment on Saturday nights; the place is too small; can get too crowded too quickly and the back lounge is overly smoked!
I tried a Mojito and a Cosmopolitan just to have the wors deflating experience of my nighlife in years. I think this place should be avoided altogether, at least on Saturday nights.

I found this spot to be very cozy and a bit intimate. The night we went the band that played was very good. Also, the service hostess was always available. The downside is the seating is a bit cramped and not all that comfortable, and the drinks are a bit pricey. Overall, it was worth the trip.

I've been going here (off and on) for over seven years and love it. Yes, at times you'll get a bartender that thinks to much of him/herself. However, the drinks are usually poured with a heavy hand. You'll pay $8 a drink, but they don't serve them weak. But more importantly ... Actually most importantly is the live music. It's always entertaining and always by musicians of a high level of talent. Best nights are Monday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday. From jazz to Africian to Brazilian, you will not be disappointed. To correct an above review, the owners are the same owners since day one. They're a brother and sister partnership that have maintained a great New York spot.
