They really messed up my order and seemed annoyed that I was upset about it. The lady on the phone just droned on at me as if she had heard it all before and my problem was no big deal. Well my tile contractor seemed to think it was and charged me extra.
The good reviews here seem self posted, the more I read through them. This was an awful experience that I do not wish to repeat.

Pros: They know how to convince you

Cons: You will be sorry

I walked in unexpectedly and was totally blown away by their selection. Their prices were great too. My project is still a few months away. The whole staff made me feel so welcome. Raymond, Ariel, Luki and Steven all seemed to enjoy what they do. I recommend everyone to check them out for all of your tile needs.

Just want to thank the entire staff for helping me. Im not the easiest person to work with. I had so many ideas and a limited budget. Everyone was patient and narrowed my ideas down to two. I recieved all of my tile in a timely manner and have recieved multiple compliments on my new bathroom. Tired of people always putting what they perceve as a bad experience. Maybe it is you that makes it difficult. Kudos to the staff.

i went to kaleidoscope because they were willing to custom-cut an unusual tile pattern for me for a reasonable price, compared to a few places i had inquired. everything went smoothly until i received my order and the tiles were half the amount i had ordered. it turned out that due to the unusual geometric shape of the pattern, we had miscalculated the amount of material needed. so before the confusion was cleared up, raymond, who i mostly dealt with, took another deposit from me to place an order for the second half of the tiles. when i figured out later that the entire order should have been delivered to me without charging me more, ray never apologized or took any responsibility for the mistake and gave me all kinds of excuses when i tried to ask for my deposit back. i called, emailed (which he never replied to), visited the store and never got a satisfying response. the project ended in october, and i still don't have that deposit back, which should have never been taken.

you may get a decent product at a competitive price at kaleidoscope, but you're taking a risk by dealing with flaky people.

Had a leak and needed to replace tiles before Thanksgiving holiday. I brought in the piece to match. They not only took their time but was able to find the tile. It was a small amount but they treated me as if my order was much larger. They promised me the tile in three days and actually delivered a day sooner. Raymond, Steven and Janet made me feel so relieved. Thank you!

I have shopped at MANY stores trying to figure out what to purchase for my kitchen without spending a ridiculous amount of money. I was very impressed with Janet at Kaleidoscope from my first visit. She offered design advice/options based on my layout and her knowledge and background in design was obvious. She was personable and absolutely helpful and pleasant. When i looked up the store on line and found negative reviews, I felt like I had to be reading about an entirely different place. From shopping to ordering to delivery of material, I have had no problem. Janet took calls from me following the order and answered questions about application (thinset, grout, etc.) that she had already explained to me in person but I didn't remember. She never gave me the "hard sell" and never exhibited anything but patience and professionalism. I don't remember all their names (Raymond, Ariel, and another) but everyone who I got on the phone was helpful. So in contrast to other posters, I recommend Kaleidoscope with flying colors and would certainly use them again for such a project. And I'm a person w/ pretty high expectations in terms of how people should treat each other in general, business or non-business.

Please do not go to this tile store. The woman that works here/owns the place is extremely unpleasant, she has no business sense, and horrible customer service. My husband and I picked out some tiles, it was not that large of an order, however, was important to us. Two weeks went by and we did not receive the tiles, meanwhile they charged our credit card for the full amount. So we called, they said that the tiles would be coming next week, so we waited, they didnt come, we called, they said they would come next week...this went on for several weeks!!! (why wouldnt they call us if they were delayed???). Finally, we called and said we wanted a refund, they said that Janet (that's the woman's name) had to do the refund, then I got a hold of Janet and she said, no only Raymond can do the refunds, then I got a hold of Raymond, then he said only Janet can do the refund...you can start to see what type of a business game plan they have going on here. When I finally got a hold of Janet she told me that this is not the end of the world since my tile order was small and was it really worth it?!?!?! how dare she, yeah its $100 dollars but its my $100 and its the principal of the matter as well! PLEASE PLEASE do not go here, she is extremely degrating to her employees to top it all off and has no shame.

I really have to say, this was a bad experience. I wish that I had spent the time to really research this company, there seems to be quite a lot of negative info out there. It should have been clear to me that there would be problems just by the appearance of the store (a total mess). But I thought I was getting a bargain.

Anyway, I purchased stone tile from them, my order arrived and the quality was just so poor I couldn't use it. When I complained, Janet (the owner I think?) was completely unsympathetic and totally rude. She did not want to accpt the tile back even though it was clearly not what anyone in their right mind would want to pay good money for.

After walking by the store a few weeks ago, that Janet lady was in the street screaming at her staff as they were moving boxes. I think there is something seriously wrong with her, be careful with this company.

After reading all the negative reviews here, I was wary of going to Kaleidoscope Tile, even though a contractor recommended I check them out. So instead, I first went to Nemo, where I was completely ignored. Then I headed to Walker Zanger, where the tile displays were beautiful but everything was incredibly expensive. Since I was frustrated and in the neighbohood anyway, I headed down to Kaleidoscope. I am so glad I did! I walked in by myself, had no prior experience with tiles, and had a very vague sense of what I was looking for. Desmond spent over an hour with me that afternoon, going through many tile options at various price points. He had great design and layout ideas, and they seemed to stock every style of tile made. Over the coming weeks, I realized that Kaleidoscope not only stocked every tile I needed for our apartment gut renovation (from beautiful marble to basic porcelein to ornate mosaic trim), but their prices blew others away and their shipping times were by far the fastest. While Desmond was away on vacation, I worked with Janet (the owner) who was nothing but polite, helpful, and responsive. In the end, I received excellent service, my tiles arrived on time and in perfect condition, I saved thousands of dollars, and I couldn't be happier that I used Kaleidoscope. If I am ever crazy enough to do home renovations again, Kaleidoscope will be my first stop.

I'm very surprised by the number of bad reviews written here. I stopped in this store on a whim - I didn't even know about it. I was looking for some bathroom tile and Raymond was extremely helpful in finding me something I liked. Desmond was also great; he even went downstairs to their basement stock with my paint sample so he could match tiles to my decor. I was able to find something I liked and not only did they promptly place the order, but the tiles were delivered to my door in perfect condition THE NEXT DAY. Not only would I order tiles from here again, I would highly recommend them to my friends. I also found their prices to be extremely reasonable and their selection to be amazing. You would be crazy not to go here first for all of your tile needs!!

I am an idiot for buying from these people even after reading all the other reviews. I liked the tiles and the prices were reasonable so I figured, how much can go wrong?

Well, let me count the ways: a lot of the tiles were broken or chipped; the replacements that they sent were rejects from other customers so they were completely useless; they charged a higher price when I needed more of the exact same tiles, of course, they didn't tell me, I only found out through my cc statement; they didn't deliver when they said they would so I end up having the work people sitting around waiting for the tiles, twice; they sent tiles that were different from the sample I had saying that the ones I ordered are no longer in production, and gave me no alternatives; and the way that the owner, Janet, conducts herself in front of her customers is embarrassing to everyone. She actually told me that she doesn't trust any of her workers except for one, Ray (who is actually pleasant). How anyone can work in that toxic environment is beyond me... Even though I ended up having tiles that I didn't order and a lot of damaged tiles, we had to encourage our tiler to work creatively so that we didn't have to ever deal with this company again.

This is pretty much the worst customer experience I had in my lifetime... I can't see how they're still in business.

Pros: None. At first, I thought price was a pro but then once they got me, they jacked up the price.

Cons: Service, product, the entire experience

Stay away from this place. I went to them in December of 2006, regarding a simple project for my apartment. Deliveries were scheduled that never happened; they did not inform me of problems with deliveries; they did not return phonecalls. The first delivery included not only my incorrectly cut material, but someone else's stuff. Eventually when I did receive some correctly cut stuff, they refused to take back the mistakes....It took months before what should have been a simple job was essentially completed. (meaning I was left with one broken piece that I used because I just didn't want to deal with them anymore)

All this is bad enough, but yes; Janet is one of the rudest individuals I have ever met. She was not only nasty to me, but to her fellow employees. Words cannot completely explain ; do not see for yourself. Go elsewhere. I won't walk down that block; the experience was so horrible that I don't need the reminder.

Had bad experience just by walking in the door - glad I dont plan on being a customer after reading all these bad reviews. Walked in as they were closing not aware of their hours to ask a question and owner was rude, belittling and openly treated her staff the same. Pushed me out the door with no interest in engaging positively with a potential customer and threw me her card rudely. With competitive businesses on her block - a surprising choice in customer service as I would have returned on normal business hours. Cant imagine how it would be working with her if thats how she says hello.

Initially I was happy with them when I worked with Steve who was helpful and good natured. However, after I got a tile delivery and it did not match, then got another replacement tile and it did not match again I had a bad experience with Janet who I found rude and impatient and insulting. Very high strung. She is the owner. To be fair, I did not open the first box of tile right away. I didn't open it until a couple months later when I finally had someone to work on it. It was completely wrong. I called them and Raymond was very kind in managing to arrange a trade. And, it was a couple weeks before I opened the new box. Ok, my bad. They were the same type of tile but the hue had an orange cast instead of a yellow. It will make a difference in the look of my kitchen. I just wanted to see if Kaleidescope had any more of the original yellow laying around and I could trade some of the orangey tile with it. Janet was very short.. unsympathetic and insulted me by saying I was letting "minutiae" bother me and she wouldn't get sucked into it. She could have chosen to just say "we just can't help you because the lots are different". She chose instead to be mean and short and add insult. I will definitely not go there again because of her.

The owner of Kaleidescope will be helpful until payment is received. Then you will enter the black hole of customer service. Multiple phone calls to check on order status will be shunted to an assistant who knows nothing. Janet, the owner, will never call back. Tremendously bad attitude. After much delay, the order was never completed. I consider her dishonest. If I knew then what I know now I would never have gone to Kaleidescope.

Totally frustrating experience. Janet, the owner, assured a two week job that took over two months, and even then not completed correctly. Many phone calls to assistants who knew nothing and promised a call back from Janet, which never happened. Came close several times to cancelling the entire order. I wish I had seen other reviews on this site earlier -- would never have done business with this woman.

Initially I was very happy with Kaleidoscope; Janet was helpful in finding the kind of tiles I needed and making suggestions (I purchased several thousand dollars of tile, tile for kitchen floor, bathroom floor, walls, shower and accent). They have many options and quality products. After the initial delivery though, things went downhill when needed additional tile. Janet never returned my calls, I found myself having to call back time after time when my tiles didn't show up. She didn't call to say the delivery would be delayed and I had people waiting at my apartment all day. This was particularly annoying becasue the tile was to replace some they had shipped that arrived damaged. If you do work with Kaleidoscope I strongly recommend working with Ray who is very friendly and pleasant and I hope better at keeping customers up to speed. I think they have decent tile at Kaleidoscope and good intentions but the service, ultimately, was a total disapointment and for the rest of my renovation I plan to shop elsewhere.

In light of the previous reviews, I wanted to write a review in support of the wonderful staff and incredible selection at Kaleidoscope Tile. I first went to Kaleidoscope to find a replcement for a broken tile without the name or manufacturer and Janet, the store's owner turned the place upside down looking for a match and did.

While browsing their huge selection, I feel in love with another tile that was unfortunately out of my price range. Over the next few weeks, Steve, one of the consultants searched through their entire selection to locate a similar tile more suitable to my budget and gave me an excellent alternative. Although I finally decided on the original tile, I was beyond impressed that Steve had gone to such lengths and returned calls when he said he would.

Overall, I have been to Kaleidoscope 6 or 7 times. I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with Janet, Steve, and Ray on all of these occasions and have found each to be professional, knowledgable, and considerate and have found the atmosphere to be perfectly comfortable. In my search for tiles, I also visited many, many of their competitors and did not encounter more helpful or knowledgeable sales reps anywhere, nor did I find a location that matched their selection.

I've been shopping around town for tiles and have been to over a dozen tile stores in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn. Although Kaleidoscope Tiles seem to have a great selection of products and a nice design consultant named Raymond A. who greeted me, what absolutely turned me off from this store was its yelling and obnoxious female owner. She was rude and insulting her newly hired employee beyond disbelief. She was worse than Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada. No one deserves that kind of treatment and you can only imagine how you would be treated as a customer. Myself and another customer in the store at that time both walked out. I only feel sorry for Raymond and this new employee because with that kind of attitute and poor customer service, they could be looking for new employment soon.

Delivery was late and contained the wrong tiles, despite detailed telephone and in-person conversations. Re-delivery was late, wrong again, and blamed on me! Whoever answers the phone claims not to know anything but never gives your message to anyone who does. Weeks pass without your (many) calls being answered. No cares that contractors were hired and waiting when deliveries did not arrive as promised. Blamed everyone from the warehouse to the delivery people. Was on the verge of suing when it was all over. Stay away!
