wonderful brunch and warm and hearty dinners. can be crowded on the weekends, but one of the best nyc brunches around. low lighting and eclectic country decor make the dinner experience top of the line as well!

Let us forget for a moment the food that they serve here.

Let's talk about the RUDE staff.

I came in to catch up with two of my best girl friends whom I haven't seen since they have been traveling. I came in with my Yankee fan gear because I was just watching the game the Yankees had with the Toronto Blue Jays that day.

The waitress looked at me from head to toe and said, "miss you really can't sit here, because you see, this is a passage way." Okay, that's fine. But the restaurant was not full at that time and I didn't think they needed any reservations if I was just popping in to say hi.

The waitress suggested "I can move you over to that corner," and move us she did, in the same tiny two-person table. So there was still not place left for me, she was nice enough to get me a chair. I asked her for the menu and said I wanted to see their dessert menu, I was craving for something cold because it was hot and humid that day. I also said "Can I see your dessert menu? I'm thinking of getting a shake." And the nicest waitress ever answered, "OUR SHAKES ARE EXPENSIVE BECAUSE WE MAKE OUR OWN ICE CREAM HERE, BUT IF YOU THINK YOU CAN AFFORD IT I'LL GO GET YOU THE MENU."

Sorry? Since when is a person's clothing a basis for assessment of capacity to pay? The shake by the way is only $10, not that ridiculously expensive, not even too many choices, and definitely something I can afford.

Met with an old friend here. When I called to make a reservation (they don't take any) I was surprised to reach a voice menu. I left my name and number and was surprised when the manager called me back from her cell phone explaining how she was on vacation and so could not take my call. Loveliest gesture ever! She also have recommendations of what to order.

Their freshly squeezed tomato juice was superbly fresh. The migas I ordered was tasty and the ice cream felt genuinely home made.

A good brunch place.

I took my bestfriend here for a birthday breakfast, and was surprised to find a line outside (it was about 55 degrees), where we had to wait 20 minutes for a table. The first problem was the horrible coffee, followed by the dry and flavorless banana nut pancakes. My omelette was okay, but the "biscuits" they serve with them are nothing more than what you find in the bread aisle of the supermarket. To say that I was not impressed would be an understatement. Our waitress was great, but I most certainly will not be back, and now I owe my bestfriend another breakfast...

Pros: Waitress and bus boys were great

Cons: Food was horrible and overpriced, wait time was ridiculous

This place is perfect on Sunday mornings.
The neighborhood knows this, so go early as locals will flock to it

I ordered a burger, with additional cheddar cheese. I was seated outside for there's no room inside and it was a very hot day. However, burger was GREAT! Bun was toasted and still hot. The beef petty was juicy and well-cooked. It was a mouth- watering and until now. Waiting deserves it.

Pros: Great taste, relatively fast served, friendly service.

Cons: Waitings, so many people allmost every time.

The food is very good, especially Deep South, Chili, and the Cheese Board. The service is terrible. DO NOT GET IT DELIVERED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After hearing about Good Enough to Eat while waiting in line at another renowned brunch spot months ago, I finally made the trek up to the UWS for a weekday lunch. My fellow diners and I ordered a breakfast quesadilla and lump crabmeat pizza as they were both specials, as well as a macoroni and cheese.
Unfortunately, the quesadilla was on the small side (6 inch diameter) and tasted mediocre (sausage, egg, peppers with GETE salsa and sour cream). The pizza which I sampled was tasty but rather doughy. The mac and cheese was cheesy but definitely on the oily side.
Having waited about 20-25 minutes for our entrees, we had plenty of time to take in the knicks knacks and very neat decorative paper spring flowers, not to mention the bake goods' display case. Having given in to temptation, we sampled the banana chocolate chip peanut butter frosted cake which was very good.
Our waiter was attentive and polite.
I suppose I will have to give the GETE brunch menu a chance sometime, but will not rush to do so. My allegiance still lay with a certain Gramercy eatery's brunch menu.

When I first moved to the UWS, I thought this place great. I would get up frequently on Sundays and order pick up. HOWEVER, GETE has completely gone down hill - mostly in terms of their staff. The last time I called for take out, they said they never do that on Sundays - which was a lie since I had been doing it for months before. Then, I called for delivery, which their website clearly says they do but do not mention a radius. I called and after being directed to the dining room (when you call there one of those annoying automated menus) and asked for delivery. The lady puts me on hold. She gets back on the line and asks for my address, which I give. She then says she's not sure she can do that and asks that I hold, I am then put down but not actually put on hold so that I can hear "Can we deliver there?" "Eh. . . . . .ew, no." The staff member gets back on the phone and tells me they only do a 5 block radius. True answer or what they wanted to say at the time????? I think it's very clear to me based on my experience and others this place is not good enough to waste your time trying to receive service from the staff who doesn't want to be there. As for the food, was good once upon a time, but I haven't been allowed since they didn't want to deliever to me.

Pros: absolutely none

Cons: don't care about their customers, specially once loyal customers

Great brunch. The french toast, pancakes, farm fresh eggs and the freshly squeeze OJ are reasons to come here to feed the furnace.

I trusted the reviews on citysearch to help me find a bakery that makes good birthday cakes. I called up this bakery and asked for their most popular birthday cake order, and then I picked it up and brought it out to the Japanese restaurant where we were having the birthday dinner. I completely regret that decision without actually having gone there first to sample the cake. It was a yellow cake with chocolate frosting, something I could have picked up in a cake mix box at gristedes. Fine. But, the yellow cake was dense and very dry, I had to ask the restaurant to bring us some ice cream just so we could have something moist to wash it down with. I was very disappointed with the texture and overall quality of the yellow cake. I would not recommend cakes from this place. As for the food, I've never tried it.

I came here on a late Wednesday night so it was not crowded at all. I ordered the Mac n Cheese & it was probably the best I've ever had so far. Gruyere cheese on ziti pasta. I couldn't finish the whole dish but had a great lunch the next day as well. My friend ordered the Chicken Parmesean & it was decent, but he wanted my Mac n Cheese more! We tried the coconut cake dessert which was recommended by the waitress, but it wasn't that great. The service was good. I will definitely come back to have some mac n cheese again.

I have been here a few times and have not been disappointed....The food taste VERY fresh and the Eggs do not taste processed-Everything taste home made. Desserts are even better, but becareful if your on a diet! The line at times moves a bit slow, mostly on a Sunday, but its worth it. I would definitely recommend coming here!

A friend of mine suggested GETE after having brunch there and she said it was delicious. I looked at the menu and we decided to try dinner, it looked like real kinda comfort yummy foods.

Now, there's no denying that place is adorable and cozy and I had zero complaints with the waitstaff...in fact, he was very attentive. We started with griddled corn bread, which was amazing, seriously! I ordered the BBQ'd Pork Chops and my friend had the Thanksgiving/ Turkey dinner. I was so excited to dig into my entree but when it came out I found my mashed potatoes (and pork for that matter) cold. I felt like my Pork chop was cooked (and dry) and then slathered in way too much bbq sauce...but not really bbq'd per say My friend complained that her turkey and stuffing was way too dry. The desserts looked REALLY good but we decided to pass...the griddled cornbread was enough. All in all, if in a pinch...I would try it again (or maybe try the brunch) but for the money, I think you could do a whole lot better.

I've been to GETE numerous times over the last few years, although only for brunch, never dinner. The lines are long, and the food is good, but only by comparison to what's available in the neighborhood. Lately, in particular, the food has taken a turn for the worse. The last few times I've gone for Sunday brunch the waffles and pancakes tasted like they'd been cooked the day before and left under a heat lamp. The bacon, usually thick and hearty, was cold and fatty. And the kitchen has screwed up our orders several times. It's a simple menu, people, what's the problem? I'd like to say GETE is good enough, but it's simply not.

While this restaurant doesn't receive as much hype as Sarabeths, Freds, or even Popover, the breakfast/brunch is just as good - if not better. This cozy, country-esque joint makes you forget the hustle and bustle that's outside its front door. The servers are always friendly and quick to refill up your cup of coffee. (In fact, one the waitress' even has a warm, Southern twang). Most importantly, this place serves the best french toast in the UWS. Both the pumpkin french toast or the cinnamon raisin come highly recommended. Their egg dishes are excellent as well.

Every time I frequent this place for brunch, I love the food and find myself wondering what happened to the waitstaff. While waiting for the food and staring at my empty cup (dying for some coffee), I swear that I won't come back. But, the food wins me over every time. Its always delicious!

We ordered takeout here and encountered the following problems:

- Delivery took 90 minutes to arrive instead of 30 minutes as promised.

- Food arrived cold and soggy.

- Entrees differed significantly from menu descriptions. The "vegetarian" pizza included shrimp.

- Staff was exceedingly rude when politely confronted with problems mentioned above.

- Manager promised refund over phone, then changed her mind when we went in to collect.

There are many great restaurants in Manhattan. Save yourself the time and money - avoid this one.

Recently we were visiting a friend in New York and he suggested Good Enough to Eat for Brunch on the Upper West Side. Don't let the line discourage you from trying this fabulous down home restaurant, it goes rather fast. The menu is very adequate ranging from Strawberry Almond Waffles to a dish called the Lumber Jack and Mimossa's. All of us are from Ohio and the midwest feel and the quaint dining room are sure to make you feel you aren't in the middle of the city.

The waitstaff seems like they'd rather be somewhere else, and frankly so did I. The biscuits were like something from mcdonalds, the omlette was sub-par, the pancakes were barely average. Luckily we eventually managed to flag down our waiter for a second cup of coffee to wash down the uninspired food.

Sub-par food and service that ranged from indifferent to rude, not a winning combination. The hostess was exceptionally horrible as she snapped at members of my party for moving out of the way as an elderly man was departing and condescendingly ltelling us that we couldn't split the bill more than 2 ways. Furthermore, food was disappointing at best, and it took 30 minutes to get a beer and 4 different requests to get a pickle that should have come with one of the sandwiches, even though the place was only half full... "Good enough to eat", what a joke-- more like "Bad enough to stay home"!

Came for brunch and didn't have to wait very long to get what looked like a nice tabel outside, until we noticed the bus stop. How about a little diesel exhaust with your coffee? The service was prompt and adequate. The big downer sat on the plate like limp cardboard: The waffles tasted like they had been made the night before, left out and then halfway reheated in the microwave. Limp, chewy, dense. You can make much better yourself at home. The rest of the food was fine, including fruit, egg white omelet and coffee.

The meatloaf ($16.95) that others love was bland, mashed potatoes cold and tasteless, and peas and carrots were as good as you would make at home. My fish of the day, halibut ($21.95) was made with a lemon sauce, and although tasty, did not go well with the sweet flavored lentils served with it. The salad served with the meal was fine, but nothing special. The bread was like diner rolls that are often left on the plate. An Ice tea was a pricy three dollars. The service was fine, child friendly, and the food came quickly, but this very average meal did not match the expensive price. We were hoping to find an upper west side gem, but instead got a cubic zirconia. We will not return.

The wait staff could care less about you or your business but once you get past the snub waitresses and rush rush rush finish, you just may return anyway. Why? They serve terrific traditional American comfort food. Skip the dry, flavorless corn bread and order the meat loaf. I thought my mother made great meat loaf (sorry mom). As a side, the broccoli mashed potatoes were something I never tried before and were excellent as were the vegitables. Not too over cooked or too crunchy. You may want to skip desert as well. The cakes are okay, but not great. Forget about the staff and go for the food and pleasant, if a bit cramped Lancaster, Pennsylvania like decor for comfort.

As a resident of the UWS, I can tell you it's hard to find good inexpensive food up here - so Good Enough To Eat is a rare find. Everything is fresh and home made, the prices are very reasonable for this area, the portions are huge, and the service is friendly. The Bloody Mary comes in an enormous milkshake glass, the pancakes are fluffy and perfect (with real maple syrup on the table!), the bacon and sausage are flavorful and high-quality - even the biscuits are awesome, and they come with fresh strawberry butter. This is a restaurant to tell friends about. Sleep in, show up at 2 so you can get a seat.

This was quite possibly the worst breakfast that I have ever tasted. The waffles were completely tasteless and the only difference between the flavors is the miniscule amount of toppings that they put on top. The honey mustard dressing on the mesclun salad made it impossible to finish...the only good thing that I tasted was the cranberry juice. Definitely not worth the amount of money that I shelled out for it.

This place is one of my favorite brunch sites in the city. The place is cozy and the food is excellent (the chocolate chip pancakes, pumpkin french toast, and the bacon are all very good). I highly recommend this place.

I am sick of my local takE out Joint('s), and luckily I discover this. This is an Upper West Side staple: a great local restaurant for family and friends which delivers excellent home cooking. The decor is no different, but that's part of what makes it so comfortable.

It is a little on the more expensive side (hamburgers start at $9), but its worth it since it does not burn a hole in your stomach; instead your stomach says "Thank you god." The meat is lean, and salads are fresh, and the fries are goooood.
And don't forget their meatloaf....mmmmmmm

Feels like Vemont. Dynamite Breakfast. Lots of wonderful choices. Never tried the dinner but it looks like a wonderful menu.

The food is phenomenal, I especially recommend the strawberry pancakes! My boyfriend prefers the Mexican scramble...we both enjoy this place tremendously. It's one of our favorite all time NYC brunch spots! We've never had a problem with the staff, or the space. Go for brunch, you'll like it!
