I was referred to this place by a co-worker who didn't offer much information by way of opinion. Despite my better judgment, I decided to try it anyway. After going for a company lunch, all I can say is WOW! The food- Excellent!, the management and staff- Attentive and Friendly, and the sushi in particular is head and shoulders above more expensive eateries like Genji or Nisen.

The staff-suggested appetizers are well-prepared, fresh and not always found on the menu. Make sure you ask for their suggestions. It's worth it!

Although they've recently changed ownership, they still offer the same quality food and personal service. I have become a life-long fan of Tenjin and regularly drag anyone not nailed to their seat there for a meal. I've even managed to convert some die-hard sushi haters into once-in-a-while partakers of their fabulous fare!

The atmosphere is casual (wooden tables and chairs) and the dining area is not very large, but there's plenty of parking since it's in a strip mall.

Do yourselves a favor... this place should not be missed!

Pros: Great Prices, Fantastic Food, Clean Surroundings, Ample Parking and Wonderful Service

Cons: The decor is very basic. Not a fancy-schmancy place, but who cares?

I never sign up for these "review" things but after raving about my Sushi place a friend pulled this up & showed me a terrible review.
I have been going to Tenjin for years, I see plenty of the same people there each time because it is GREAT!!! I sit at the bar now and no longer have use for the menu. I have been introduced to amazing dishes, terrific Saki, and wonderful people. Since the owner, who happens to be the head sushi chef just returned from Japan after visiting his mom, not quite sure where the "chinese" came in. Either way, you are not going to find a better Sushi place in the LI area. The chef will make anything you want, his presentation is amazing along with the amazing tastes and FRESH quality. Did I say the place was amazing ?!!!
Seriously if you want fresh Sushi and creative rolls give it a shot. If you just want the "cooked" food & "noodle soups", I can't help you.

Pros: Everything

Cons: Not a one, maybe a little crowded at the bar on weekends

I went to this restaurant because of its high rating here on Citisearch. The restaurant has a average decor. The service is also somewhat pleasant. However, that is where this good part of this review ends. Which brings me to the food: Over priced, poor quality, and poor preparation.

The sushi I ordered, did not have the rice you are supposed to use for sushi, and what was worse is that it was dretched in the sweet soy sauce. Its sweet, but it drowns out the other flavors. The slices were fairly thin but it was at least fresh. Portion was quite small compared to other sushi restaurants of comparable price.

The cooked food was even worse. My partner had the noodle dish. She swears it was the worst noodle dish she has had in her entire life. Low quality ingredients, and poorly cooked = my big regret choosing this place. When I sampled a little of the noodle dish, I was a little more forgiving. It had some flavor but I have to agree that it was a low quality dish, especially for the price around $10.

If you are looking for a quick sushi place to eat at, do yourself a favor, pass this place and drive east to the next town of Huntington and give Kohaku a try. Kohaku has been there for years and they are owned by Japanese. In my opinion they have FAR better food quality than Tenjin especially at the same price range.

But for the BEST sushi on Long Island, try Kotobuki at 86 Deer Park Ave, Babylon, NY 11702. If you decide to go to Kotobuki, get there early, or slip in at the sushi bar otherwise you will be waiting. It is a little higher price range, but for what you get it is worth it.
