If you are tired after walking around The Museum of Natural History or excited about going to Lincoln Center, stop in here for a nice dinner. You should probably make reservations if you can, every restaurant around Lincoln Center fills up quickly on show nights so call beforehand so you won't be disappointed. Nicely appointed room, very cozy and comfortable and people will treat you very nicely here. The food is fine.

I tend to order the same dishes every time, but have never been disappointed. In a convenient location close to Lincoln Center, with a homey small-restaurant feel and unpretentious atmosphere.

Ratings_icons A decent stop-off for red sauce (and vodka sauce)

A pleasant enough spot with good people-watching from the curb-side windows. We get the always-excellent penne vodka. Not really a fancy place, but reliable for a tasty dinner.

Ratings_icons Don't WASTE your $$$

I had dinner at II Violino last night and it was one of my WORST dining experience ever. The table next to us ordered after us but got their entree before us. My simple grilled chicken ceaser salad was so so what's worst was the TERRIBLE SERVICE. My waiter was rude and obnixous!!!!! Therefore, his tip was just as bad as he is!

Ratings_icons Quiet, romantic, great food!

diddybop146

My fiancee and I have made this "our restaurant". We eat out a lot and always like to try new italian spots but at the end of the day we still prefer Il Violino to all others. What's not to love? The ambience is very romantic and relaxing, the prices are great, and the food is DELICIOUS. Try the gnocchi ala placido... it's perfection.

Pros: Friendly waitstaff, never waited for a table, delicious food, ambience

Cons: Absolutely none

Ratings_icons Great Italian

citybug6768

Been eating here for the past 2 years. I live up in the low 80's and love walking down to grab a bite. The owner and staff are very friendly and the atmosphere they create is cool. The food is really good. I highly suggest trying them next time you crave Italian.

Pros: Staff, location, food

Cons: n/a

Ratings_icons Great streetside seating!

Me and my wife like coming to this italian restaurant before or after a movie at Lincoln Sqaure Cinema. They serve good food at not too expensive prices. I always get the chicken parm which is really good! I would recommend this place for those looking for a quiet serene dining experience.

Pros: Tables are a little too close, you can hear everyone's conversation in depth!

Ratings_icons Great Service -- Lousy Food

torvald7

The restaurant has wonderful window seating, and in general, has a nice ambiance. Unfortunately, this does not make up for the lousy food. The house salad was okay, but the calamari were greasy and rubbery. The Veal Parmigiana was overcooked and full of grizzle. The coffee tasted as if it had been made that morning. (We had dinner). The bathroom was clean.

Pros: service, location

Cons: food

Ratings_icons dissapointment

noreen1707

The seemingly large crowds, strategically seated in the window seats, drove me to try this restaurant. Upon arrival, the dissapointment began. I'd rather not have bread than to be given tasteless, starchy lumps of dough. My friend had the chicken parm; this was so tough and thin that I couldn't readily identify it as chicken. And I tried another chicken dish which was tasteless. Even without the vaste array of area options to eat, I still would never return here.

Pros: window seats

Cons: , food, food

Ratings_icons Food Friends and Fun... oh and Champ

stephsmartin

Great atmosphere and Unlimited Champane make Il Violino's champane brunch a bust or the morning after. The service is a little slow, but very friendly. I will keep going back, and definately recommend this afordable choice.

Pros: Friendly Staff, Good food, Mix of people

Ratings_icons cozy and tasty

Four of us had dinner the other night, and 3 of us were very very pleased. That leads me to recommend avoiding 1) the clams casino and 2) the veal parmigiana. The mozzarella carprese was perfect, and they let you put the oil & balsamic on yourself, which is great. The pasta dishes were well cooked and large, and the chicken with wine, garlic & shallots over fettucine was EXCELLENT.

Ratings_icons I eat here all the time.

I always come here, at least once a week. The Gnocchi is the best in the city. Although the service needs some help, they aren't too quick.

Pros: food, parking, ambiance

Cons: service

Probably the best Italian I've had in the city -- by far the best garlic bread in my life. Delicious meal, owner Peter greeted every table, I felt like I was at a small-town restaurant but I was really on the UWS! Portions are good-sized since you've filled up on the delicious bread!!!
