I have been a member of NYHRC for 4 months but I will be canceling my membership as soon as I can. In general their clubs are not well maintained and it seems as if they don't even utilize professional cleaning crews or services. The 13th St. location in particular is dirty, dusty, the bathrooms smell bad, the machines are rarely wiped down or even dusted. Broken fixtures, dented walls, cracked mirrors, mildew in the showers and sauna are the standard. The lockers are filthy and are literally falling apart. The floors in the bathrooms and locker rooms are covered with a rough pebbly surface that holds and traps dirt (and who knows what else). If you care about good maintenance and basic cleanliness go somewhere else!

My boyfriend and I went to check out the 13th street gym recently - because we were thinking of joining a gym. We liked the concept of NYHRC with the pools and the locations seemed convenient. I was quite disappointed by the locker rooms - very small/narrow and thank goodness I brought flip-flops, the floor was pretty dirty. We went in the off peak time so it was rather empty which was good but I can't imagine what it would be like if it was crowded... each floor is tiny. If you get a good deal, it may be worth it just to use the gym (workout and get the heck out) but don't count on cleanliness or amenities.. We're planning to checkout other NYHRC gyms before deciding... & we won't forget to bring flip flops for the locker room!!

Elegance and affordability, sound like two distant stragers right? Well not at NYHRC. This gym is gorgeous, ammenities include a pool and hoit tub in every gym, state of the art equipment, every class you can think of, and great hours. Best part is the crowd is mature and the gym's are never crowded. Go into any of their gyms aroudn the city for a free week pass. You'll see what I mean.

This gym has excellent services and classes. However, it's one of the older locations and isn't the most sparkling feeling. The good part of this is many members go to the 23rd Street location, making this one emptier: so you never have to wait for cardio equipment. Spin classes are great, but too short. The locker rooms are very well stocked and clean. Good member benefits. If you want a hot looking gym, go to equinox, but this club has everything you need in an older looking space.

PROS: Great equipment, Great classes, Good locker amenities
CONS: Older looking location
