I was really looking forward to a good Italian meal on this trip to NYC. However, Patsy's did not fill the bill. It was way over priced. The service was poor and the food wasn't even that great. The string beans were mushy (obviously from a can). The salmon was very very hot which led me to believe that it was microwaved. The head waiter was very "snuty" and wouldn't even let me wear my coat in the dinning room. I will never go back to this restaurant. For two people the bill was over $100.

yikes....bad food, bad service and bad waiter - three strikes and you are out!!! the food was mediocre, the waiter did not know that we existed and trying to order was a joke since the man did not seem to know or care what the restaurant served. i would tell you that the $150 we spent would have been far better spent at Olive Garden....NYC has way too many great Italian restaurants to waste your time on this joynt.

We had a great last night here. The food was first class and the waiters are so old school with their uniforms and standards. I loved the sweet trolley which I haven't seen for years in a restaurant. Loved it and will definitely return next trip.

The food and the service here is great. I love to eat the lasagna with the garlic knots. Pasty's definitely met my expectations. The cost to eat here isn't that bad..

The pasta e fagioli soup was bubbling, very thick, and extremely sour, from fermentation. Do not sell spoiled food to your customers!

I've been looking forward to eating at this legendary NYC Italian restaurant for years and had the opportunity this past weekend. To say it was a disappointment would be an understatement. It was downright displeasurable. For starters, it reeks of the mob. A good third of the clientele and staff are capable of giving you "the eye" at a drop of a crumb. I had to eat my meal with blinders in fear of being handed a kiss and black rose by the guy sitting next to me. My crime? I believe I looked in his direction for a second. Other notable letdowns included slow service - even when the restaurant was 1/4 full, bland unheated bread, entrees which were okay at best, a slice of decent tiramisu and single shot of espresso that cost $20.00 (I had to decipher this as it wasn't itemized in our bill and was only labeled "c/d." Can you say - Scam?) Our waiter was also pushy. As soon as we sat, he mentions that the lasagna was good. Okay - thanks. But when we placed our order, he ignores us and once again repeats - "the lasagna is good." In all fairness, however, the lentil soup was fantastic. Too bad everything went down hill from there. As such, I would have to rate this place as below average considering the level of service, comfort, and quality of food vs. its price.

Now, if you guys are like me, you'll likely ignore my review and chalk it up as a fluke. And perhaps you would be right - and I hope so actually. But, let me suggest another Italian restaurant that has never ceased to amaze me or my guests over the last 15 years. IL Corallo Trattoria on 176 Prince St. 212-941-7119. It is a small place situated in the heart of Soho that's equally busy and served by exceedingly friendly and unpretentious staff. Most of the 40+ entrees are around $12.00 and their tiramisu is to die for. Best of all, you can actually enjoy your meal without the fear of somehow triggering off the time-bomb with elbows at the adjacent table.

Pros: Want to know what it would be like to eat with a Soprano? This is it!

Cons: Unsettling "feel," mediocre food, service, expensive, bad location.

This is an old school italian restaurant...the photos of Sinatra, Tony Bennet, etc....The pasta is delicious. It's very New York. I highly recommend it.

Cons: It's a little expensive.

Frank Sinatra loved this place and so do we! My husband and I love Italian food, especially after touring Italy. This was better than anything we had in Rome or Firenze! The sauces were so delicious and generous portion sizes made with the freshest ingredients. A perfect way to dine after spending all day sightseeing and shopping.

The knowledgeable and friendly waitstaff were wonderful too.

If you love Tiramisu, definitely try it here - it melts in your mouth and tastes like whipped heaven. We highly recommend this fantastic place.

I've been eating lunch and an occasional dinner at Patsy's for over 12 years.

Joe, the second owner (his father was the first) is my age 60+ and can tell stories about when my father used to have lunch there with Jules S..., a former President of the NY Athletic Club. If you would like a lesson in the History of NYC...you must stop in for a late lunch.

Sal, Joe's son is not only the head chef, but the head historian...Dad passed it along. Have Sal tell you the story about Rush L. and the Thanksgiving Dinner Sal made for him when the restaurant was closed one year. Also, watch for Sal on many of the national TV shows. By the way, pick up their book and have Joe, Frank and Sal sign it!

A little about Frank, the person that greets you on arrival - Frank is elegant without being snooty- folks, he is there to help. If all is not as you expected, let Frank know and it will be fixed.

Last, my favorite chef, Sal- He shows up at your table to find out if all is well and doesn't take offense if it is not- let him know and you'll be pleasantly surprised by what he does for you!

Last, I feel as though I'm at my best friends home and treated as family. Become part of the Patsy's family, you'll come back every chance you get.

This reads like a commercial, but believe me, it's not! I'm just a guy, along with his family that loves being pampered the NYC way and Patsy's is the best. .....Oh ask Frank for a generous portion of the Teramisu(sp)for desert...to die for!

Bill and family- Hey guys see you next month.

We wen to this place on a whim, because Frank Sinatra used to eat there. What a great find... the waiters were in tuxedos (so I'd dress up a little) and were vert attentive. All of the food was delicious! I had linguine with pesto, and it was great. I also tried a friend's tortellini Bolegnese, and it was fabulous. Another friend's mushroom ravioli had a strange flavor. For dessert, I had a plate of raspberries and whipped cream - I've never seen something so simple in a restaurant before, but after such a filling meal, it was really the perfect ending. Can't wait to go back!

We were greeted when we walked in to the beautiful downstairs dinning room by a lovely gentleman who although had never met us treated us like old friends. After ordering one of the best perfect manhattan's we have had in a while.....we were led up stairs to our table, greeted by the waiter and told the specials. The wine selection was plentiful offering a favorite, the food was perfection itself and the dessert a sin. To top the evening off we were given a lovely black bag with a jar of Patsy's sauce....now I ask what is better than great food great wine and a gift? A true New York restaurant with wonderful New York waiters.

We had a party of 5 and that was a problem. The staff told us how lucky we were to have a reservation. We waited at the cramped bar area where some people were forced to eat at tiny tables with our butts and bags in their plates.

When seated we were rushed to order. With that said we ordered wine, one red one white. The wine was brought to the table with 4 glasses. My husband told the sommelier I would taste the red. He poured a fill glass and slammed it down in front of me with wine running down the side of the bottle. We tried for the rest of the meal to get more glasses and were ignored.

Food. Just bad. Not to bore you 5 people 5 bad dishes. We had chicken, pasta, eggplant and spaghetti and meatballs. The sauce was the only thing good on any of the dishes and it was not great.
Desserts were good amazingly enough.

The waiters: Rude, indifferent just funny to look at with the swoop hair.

Place seemed to be filled with tourist. Sad to see that as they will all go home and say the food in Ohio is better than NYC. (We went to this place because an out of town guest wanted to go.)

We've been there several times and the service was never hospitable. This past time would be our last time for sure. We entered and asked for a table for two (around 3pm). There are several empty table but the receptionist told us "we can sit you but you have to get out at 5pm!. okay.. get out is a very polite word to start the whole RUDE experience. My boyfrined has been asked to put away his trench coat. He said he would like to keep it. The receptionist insisted that "no coat in the dining room!" We havn'e even sat down and already feel offended for 2 times. uhh....
the food was okay. just okay. the bread is good. the appetizer was great! the pasta was really dull. nothing special. the tiramisu was just VERY sad and dry. The service could be good only if you know them I guess. We saw a couple of tables are nicely served with a lot of greetings.
One should go for food and ignore the bad service, or try to make friends with them. But for the money you are paying there, there are so many more places serves better italian food in this area.

A group of us went for dinner last Thursday night and had a great time. We made sure to make reservations a couple of weeks earlier. Our experience couldn't have been nicer. We were greeted warmly by the host, seated within a few minutes and went on to have a delicious meal. They have the absolute best red sauce! I recommend the Fried Calamari, Trio of Ravioli, Pork Chops with Vinegar Peppers, and the Veal Chop......need I say more? We finished up our evening with Patsy's delicious Tiramisu. I can't wait to go back!

We went to Patsys based on an old friend's recommendation. This is not the old Patsys!
The place was crowded--we had a reservation & still had to wait for over 20 minutes--there was not a nice place to wait--the host rudely motioned us over to the wall--backed up to a large crowd.
The food marginal, & the host was extremely condescending
& rude. We were told by the restaurant that children were welcome--they were not--they were well-behaved but treated poorly by the staff.
We were told that Patsys was not snobby--but found that it was--very much so.

Also--they have a dress code--no shorts--fine--but the restaurant is not nice enough to demand a dress code & was quite hot--I could have used some shorts!

There are so many great restaurants in NYC--avoid this one!

we returned after more than 10 years to find the restaurant packed with tables, noisy as could be, rushed service, great food, but not worth the price. Today there are just too many other good restaurants around that Patss's has lost it draw for us. They are no longer a standout, must go spot. LIving on ther reputation form the days hwen good restaurants really stood out.

We were told we "had" to go to Patsy's and we are very glad we listened! The ambience, service, and value were typical NYC, and the food was outstanding. The portions are huge, so make your decision on an appetizer or dessert before you order. I could not finish my entree, but I was going for the dessert cart, no matter what! If you go for lunch as we did, get there when they open as seating is fairly limited. Do yourself a favor and put Patsy's on your "must see" list.

Two of us had the most wonderful lunch before our Broadway show "Wicked". Sal was absolutely wonderful telling us all about the celebs he has met over the years. Also my partner didn't know what to have for lunch and Sal was a big help in her selection. We saw a celeb and his wall of fame. The meal was perfect and so was the dessert (better then sex). Recommend it for lunch if you are looking for a great place to eat and see a celeb or two. Sal thanks for being such a great host.

6 of us visited NYC last week and we had dinner at Patsy's Friday night. We were seated promptly by the hostess. We saw a couple of celebs towards the back of the room. We enjoyed our meal and felt the price was reasonable. The only dissappointment was the cheesecake that our friend said tasted like pound cake. He requested to take it off our bill and they did. I would recommend this place for others to try. Who knows you might see a celebrity too.

One can either buy into the hype or go to a good Italian restaurant. Food is very average and prepared hasitly (my stuffed calamari still had it cartiledge inside). A million celebrities have visited the place, so if that's what you're looking for (a place to be seen), then this place is for you.

I must say how DISSAPPOINTED all 12 of us were with this VERY BAD restaurant! Within 2 minutes of looking at the menu, a waiter comes over and says I hope everyone is ready to order! The waiter even left the check before he asked us if we wanted dessert or coffee. Even while we were eating, waiters were trying to take our plates with food still on the plate!! The older couple at the front could care less about you. If you are not a famous actor, they won't even look at you! I would say this was the WORST dinning experince I have ever had in the city. Even the prices are outrageous for a horrible restaurant. (ie..chicken parm. that does NOT come with pasta is $ 28...if you want pasta add another $ 8) the decor...I felt like it was 1985. TERRIBLE!

There may be better Italian joints in Manhattan, but I love it in terms of the convenience in Midtown and the reliable quality. My favorites are the Spedino for appetizer (although most people won't care for the anchovy sauce) and linguine pesto (the best pesto I've been able to get in the city). All the pasta dishes are consistently good and if you're adventurous, even the tripe is excellent.

Service is passable. I never really feel I'm being served poorly, but at the same time it's never all that attentive. Some may be made to feel a little uncomfortable, but generally it's decent.

Decor is your old school 60's glitz Italian joint. Not exactly romantic, tacky or trendy.

Service is passable. I never really feel I'm being served poorly, but at the same time it's never all that attentive. Some may be made to feel a little uncomfortable, but generally it's decent.

Decor is your old school 60's glitz Italian joint. Not exactly romantic, tacky or trendy.

Pros: Consistent, Authentic

Cons: May seem snooty

I went to Patsy's last night and I have never been treated so rudely or made to feel so unwelcome. The food was alright but I don't understand why this place is known for such great Italian food. I've definitely had better. Not to mention the stuck up host did not help. VERY DISAPPOINTING.

I knew we were in trouble when we walked in, the smell was very musty and damp, not the wonderful smell of traditional italian cooking we had expected. We were seated promptly and got our drinks quickly. My cocktail was made wrong and I had to argue with the waiter about it before he would get me another one. The food was very average and there was no atmosphere. There are at least 50 other italian places in the city that are much better!

Let's just say that the waiter our party had was in need of a day off. We all were highly disappointed in the food as well. Our party of 6 was rushed, we were told what we wanted for dessert without seeing the dessert cart. Our reservations was made weeks in advance. My advice skip this 1944 restaurant.....

When we went to Patsy's, we were greated warmly by the host and taken to our table. The waiters were knowledgable and friendly to us. They made sure that our wine glasses were constanly filled. They served us in a tinely manner.. and we enjoyed the meal very much so!

My family has always been treated very well by the Patsy's family. We'll be back... and if the Chairman of the Board was still with us.. he'd be back too!

Pros: delicious food, warm atmosphere, friendly staff

Just had lunch and was happily surprised by the brocolli rabe and the meatballs! Very good traditional Italian food, which is very hard to find in midtown.

Pros: great food, nice atmosphere

Cons: abrupt service, expensive

Went for lunch and tried the prix fixe with friends. We all tried a different item on the menu. Apetizers were good (soup or salad) but entrees were too much on the bland side: not much flavor. Nice food presentation and very professional service but ultimately, food quality is the most important factor. I wouldn't recommend due to high price.

Never fails to delight. Patsy's is a slice of the old school NYC that should be treasured. It's not quite Alienist ancient, but harkens back to a simpler time. The food is great, the service is wonderful, the atmosphere is smooth, what more could you ask for in a dinner?

I was sent here on the recommendation of a hotel conceirge and left disappointed. The food was average, but below par for the price. The service was mediocre at best, as the waiter seemed more interested in moving my date and me out of the restaurant than serving us. Put simply, you can do better in NYC for the same money.

We visited Patsy's for the first time this past weekend. The food was good, but we had to make a scene with the host several times to get seated. (His wife, the hostese apologized for overlooking us on the reservations list. We had reservations for two for 8:00 pm, but did not get seated until 8:38. Couples with reservations for 8:15 and 8:30 were bering seated on time.) The waiter was teriible also. Had to ask for water refills 3 times.

After hearing much about the legendary Patsy's, my fiancee and I decided we had to give it a whirl. It was well worth our time.
The ambience is lovely if a bit crowded and loud, the service courteous and helpful, and the wine list oustanding. The menu of traditional fare offers plenty of choices. We found a delicious bottle of Amarone that went perfectly with the veal rollatine I ordered. The place is fabulous, though it could be a bit more intimate. Also, when making reservations I suggest asking for an upstairs table.

This place had great pizza. The quintessential ny style pizza -- nice thin, crispy crust, perfectly distributed fresh mozzarella clumps and sweet, fresh tomato sauce. Overall, a great meal.

Service was lacking somewhat, as it took about 10 minutes to be seated, with half the tables empty! Once seated, waitress came over promptly. Pizza only took about 10 minutes to be fully cooked.

Overall, great place for a quick and relatively inexpensive good meal.

Although somewhat expensive for pizza -- 15 dollars for a large pie, this is more than just standard pizza. The ingredients were incredibly fresh -- tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil. The pizza had a nice crispy crust

I recently went to NYC on vacation and a friend told me Patsy's was a good place to eat. I'm a chicken parmagian kinda guy, but I got the stuffed calamari and it was very good. Their sauce is excellent (you can buy it at Southern Season in Chapel Hill by the way). Great Italian wine selection and good food. If I went to NYC again, I'd probably try a different place, but if you've never been to Patsy's, check it out, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I was 15 years old and my Mother, Aunt and Cousin and I had experienced a day on the town in New York. After a show and shopping, we happened onto Patsy's and it left an indelible imprint on my mind. First off, the aromas are some that I can still conjure. The food, the best. My grandmother, Philomena Albini Ciarlo, could even be outdone! The best part was that I happened to be jabbering on about the fabulous NY Yankees and supposedly, Patsy himself came to my table and graciously gifted me with box seats tickets to the home game against Cleaveland. What gets better than that? Suffice it to say, I am a Director of Sales & Marketing for an international Conference Center Management Company. All my clients eat here!!

Our dinner was good, but I say some places in Little Italy do a better job. Service was great. The price was right. Noise level is high, and if you are a non smoker ask to be seated away from the bar.

Very old school Italian. The room downstairs is pretty tight in space. The upstairs has more room but needs some updating on the interior decorating.
The food is plentiful and good. The stuffed calamari was excellent. Good Italian food in a city location lacking in that area.

My boyfriend and I were celebrating our one year aniversary. We decided to go to Patsy's for dinner after seeing Cabaret. Because of horrible weather conditions, they said that they might have to close earlier- well they stayed open for us. Even when the only party, other than us was getting ready to leave. The dinner was absolutely one of the tastiest meals I ever had- consistantly through the whole meal. The service was attentive, but not over baring. All and all- very romantic.

I looked forward to going to Patsy's for about 1 year. My husband and I finally went there. Seldom do restaurants exceed your expectations, but Patsy's did mine. From the Maitre de, to the service, to the quality of the food. We even received a little jar of Patsy's sauce to take home!!

We dined at Patsy's on September 9, 2002 and also in July. Each time we had great food and service. The clams casino were the sweetest and the canneloni was the best I have ever had! I also had filet of sole arregenata and lobster arregenata. The escarole monacino with bread crumbs, olive oil, pinoni nuts, raisins and olives was sensational! Service is warm and professional. The memory of Sinatra is strong here which makes it more fun! Bravo to the Scognamillo family!!

This is a must eat at restaurant especially if you are bringing out of towners looking for a quintessential NYC experience.

Patsy's friendly staff & ownership will regale you with stories about when Sinatra used to eat here or when the World Champ 60's Yankees teams would come in en masse - - You still will get an occasional star siting here with reports of Tony Bennett, Jennifer Lopez, and others

The food is old school and outstanding - my preference is for the penne dishes with a taste of italian sausage on the side......... try anything that looks good - it is all excellent
