This family owned eatery specializes in Tuscan cuisine and their wine list is amazing. I always get the excellent antipasti, toasted bread soaked in superb olive oil, and a fish dish. The pleasant, inviting space has a dining garden in the back. Prices are not cheap for the East Village, but affordable considering the quality.

I just love this place!!! So charming and beautiful decor and the staff was amazing and sweet. The garden area is a great escape, to sit under the trees and lights was just sublime. I had the yummiest specials--polenta and the toast with figs and this terrific carrot and ricotto cheese concoction that was just heaven. It was such a perfect romantic place...good energy and excellent food. I cannot wait to go back!

I've eaten here several times, always in the garden so I can't speak to the indoors experience. But it's an adorable restaurant and you feel that the owners are somehow present (although I can't be sure of this). This place is pretty good. My favorite dish is a whole fish and the pasta is good too. I recommended it to someone I work with who also loved it and recommended it to the rest of her family... The garden's beautiful, the food pretty solid, and the price is right.

Ugh. My boyfriend and I came here around 7 pm on a friday. It was bad in all respects, starting off with the bread, which tasted like uncooked dough. We moved on to a fig appetizer that tasted even worse than it smelled (although we didnt think that was possible). Our entrees were disappointing as well. My boyfriend had the fish special and I had the eggplant. It tasted bland and pasty. The outdoor garden was nice, but that is all it had going for it. Do not recommend.

After hearing great things I was excited to try I Coppi and my first impressions were favorable, it really is a beautiful space. The appetizers were quite tasty and they had a good selection of wines but it took around 50 -55 minutes for our main course to arrive and when it did two of our party thought the food was bland while the other two were satisfied with their choices. After finishing, however, it took 15 minutes to clear the plates away, 10 minutes for the waiter to ask if we wanted desert, 5 minutes for him to return with a desert menu then a further 15 mintues to come back and take the order. Apparently he was more interested in doing his side work in the front room of the restaurant than ensuring we got good service.
We gave the restaurant the benifit of maybe having an off night in the week running up to Xmas but having just returned from brunch it's safe to say the bad service seems to be the norm. Maybe I Coppi can fit some system where if you need attention you can push a button which is relayed to the waiters who insist on hanging out with each other in the front room at just the precise time I need them.

Pros: Ambience,

Cons: Service, inconsistent food, service again

We really liked the outdoor garden atmosphere, and the food was fantastic. We were pleased with everything we ordered. The prices were right too! The service was terrific as well.

Pros: different atmosphere, reasonably priced

Cons: gets a little crowded

This place is a well kept secret as it's not at all pricey (you can have a full course dinner with dessert for less than $50 per person), it's very easy to get a table and the food is probably the best in this price range anywhere in the city. Home made bread is unique and very good, tiramisu - the best I've had in New York, pastas, tomato soup, everything is top notch. The service is warm and friendly, the garden is to die for.
I've been there 6 or 7 times, twice of which with parties of 8-12 people and it's consistently amazing.

I saw I Coppi on a TONY Time Warner Cable review on "Outside Gardens" and i thought it might be the perfect place for my boyfriend and I to go for our 1 Year Anniversary. It says on the Citysearch review that it's not recommended for kids...romantic...etc...but when we walked in on Friday night at 7:30, there was a giant family dining with 6 kids. I saw a fair share of senior citizens too. Granted, it was on the early side, but THIS IS THE EAST VILLAGE. What happened? A buzzkill, when i had dressed up in provovative chic. Our table was in the garden, which is tiny, and when i asked to sit at a bigger table, they said the 3 seaters are reverved for larger parties. 10 minutes later, a couple was sitting there. The Garden is ok, but it's covered. Our food was bland, and we didn't finish it. Wine List was good, service adequate. Trust me, and save it for a non occasion where you just need a place to go if you are in the neighborhood.

Seated right away, good. Garden, lovely. Winelist, great. Bread, served too late. Half order pastas, good. 45 minute wait for entree, bad. Asking about why the entrees took this much time, WORST. We simply asked what the holdup was, and the waitstaff said I dont know, I just asked the same question. You can ask the chef on your way out, very dismissively. At which my companion replied, very politely, That is your job, to communicate our question to the kitchen. She replied You dont have to be nasty to me, this is the last time Im talking to you and stormed off. Never have I been disrespected like this. We went directly to the owner and complained that such behavior does not befit such a charming establishment, and left without touching our food. It just goes to show, food alone does not make a restaurant great.

This place is really fantastic. Yes, it is a little pricier than most italians in the east village, but it is worth it. Every time I have gone it has been a memorable event. My girlfriend is a vegitarian and I am a carnivore, and we are both well catered to at I Coppi. The garden is very romantic as well. Come here for a special occassion or just for a night out... you will not be sorry!

I Coppi is a crowd pleaser. I have brought older friends, younger friends, even my parents and all have enjoyed their meal immensely. The garden is beautiful and even good in the winter (heated and enclosed). The eggplant dish is to die for with a creamy bechamel sauce. The portions are not huge, but hey, this isn't the Olive garden. Their wine list is exhaustive and the service is friendly and informed. Not totally casual, but not dressy either. A perfect date place as well. Ask for the garden when making reservations.

The absolute worst meal I have ever eaten and one of the most expensive!
The place itself along with our server was very charming and the Tuscan wine we ordered was notable. Our waitress was overly emphatic about the prowess of the kitchen the entire evening.
The bread and olive oil had zero flavor, my pasta was extremely bland, and the seafood was not fresh or prepared well. What's funny is that none of the four of us complained at all until we were together 6 months later- We all wanted to taste the subtle notes of flavor our server was describing in each dish but they just did not exist.

Maybe I was there on an off night, but I won't go back!

I Coppi is one of my favorite places in Manhattan. The food is spectacular (I recommend the pork loin), and the garden room makes for a lovely, romantic setting. This is the restaurant where I take out-of-town guests for a low-key, delicious meal.

The pasta portions are ridiculously small for $16-18, even for a little girl! While food is good quality, prices are just too high for middle-of-the-line service and average decor. You can spend $25 per entree at a much fancier place. Last year the portions were more reasonable--is this their idea of cost cutting?

This isn't complicated food. It's simple great tasting Tuscan food, the way it should be. The staff is super friendly, the outdoor garden is great and inside reminds me of my grandmother's home in Italy. Go with a small or large group...either way, GO! Si mangia bene :) Ciao!

Fantastic cured meats, delicate home made pasta, an AMAZING wine list, wild boar, heavenly polenta!
All of this is a served in the most beautiful covered garden with the perfume of woodsmoke in the air, wafting from the open oven. You must try this place! So romantic!

I've been here twice - once as a twosome, and once with a group from work. I will be going back again and again and again.?. The food is wonderful, authentic Tuscan. The menu is limited in scope, but daily specials are interesting, and all the dishes I?ve tried were excellent. The wild boar and the bass with cherry tomatoes are a must. Great Tuscan wine list (but a wee bit over-priced at the lower end) with something for everyone. The staff are warm, friendly, helpful and, like everything about I Coppi, unpretentious. There is no music (thank you, I Coppi !), and the place is warm, homely, and inviting. It?s a restaurant for adults, but it has no attitude. I enjoyed I Coppi more than any other Italian I?ve been to in NYC and, indeed, more than most any restaurant in the city.

The best restaurant I can imagine. The service was great and the food was beyond belief. We were introduced to various olive oils by a woman that turned out to be the owner and head chef. She also visits with customers and makes sure everything is perfect. AND IT WAS. My wife had duck and I had a pasta special with oxtail in the sauce. They, the salads, appetizers, deserts, and desert wines are perfection. I cannot recommend a restaurant higher.

i Coppi has by far the most beautiful, romantic garden in NY. The food is okay--pastas are much better than anything else on the menu. The garden is the perfect setting for any romantic occaision!

This restaurant is delightful and a good value. The garden is a pleasure. The only criticism, and it is a minor one, is that the wine is a bit pricy. Otherwise, it's a gem.

I remember going to this restaurant back in the summer of 2000 and loving it. I will be going again next week and I must say it is one of the best (if not the best) italian restaurants in town. Hope it has not changed.

Message from I Coppi

I Coppi is a rustic and authentic Tuscan restaurant located in the East Village, owned and operated by Lorella Innocenti and her husband John Brennan, which opened in September 1998. Lorella brought her mother Alberta Innocenti, a home cook from Pistoia in Tuscany, to create a seasonal menu featuring specialties from generations of Italian family recipies. Maristella Innocenti arrived from Florence in 1999 to join her sister in running the restaurant and soon after moved into the kitchen as head chef to faithfully reproduce her family recipes. She prepares food like its prepared in the home, not like what you find in most Italian restaurants. One of the most charming elements of the restaurants is its beautifuly arranged back garden. Tucked away in the east village, I Coppi gives you the romantic seeting you will need for an evening to remember. Come join us!

Located deep in the heart of the East Village, a far cry from the downscale honky-tonks and falafel joints that once pervaded this part of town, this sophisticated Tuscan bistro serves up satisfying fare. The look---exposed brick walls,…
