.Review of my recent experience.... BE-ing Package- Although my experience with the spa was good, I did find some issues which I think need addressing.The Spa lunch that was included- I was outside when the French Tart delivery man came and he thought I was purchasing a personal lunch and told me the total was $5.95. I told him it wasn't for me, To my surprise it really was for me. A $6.00 sandwich, no drink offered, no salad, nothing. I must say I was a little shocked. This package costs quite a bit in these times. I would have preferred a lunch with a little more to it.The locker room- one steam shower was broke and if there is more that one person in the room you really cant move. Besides in the locker room there isn't anywhere for you to hang another towel, or your clothes on while getting dressed or undressed. Some shelves or hooks would be great.As for the make up "touch up" portion I found the artist to be somewhat rude and acted like she couldn't be bothered. As soon as she saw me she stated that I am only getting a "foundation and blush touch up", nothing more. So what but she could have been a lot more professional and nice, they don't cost as much as I paid for the package.And by the way I paid for the "master package" never again, I find the juniors behave much more professional.Now for the excellent staff you DO have- everyone involved with spa downstairs are exceptional. Gloricel(sea salt), Barbara (facial), Valerie (massage) and the assistants were excellent.Kudos to them and to the owners of the spa.Thank youMarianne Faberzakvisited 7/8/09BE-ing Package

I normally go to Jill for my massage - she charges the normal massage price but gives a deep tissue. The rest of the massage therapists charge 105 for deep tissue. My last visit I went to Valerie, I kept asking her to go deeper but it was like my husband was putting lotion on me....it was ok but I have had better from Jill and a few of the other massage therapists. Valeries personality left a lot to be desired as well. Dana cuts my hair - always perfect. I just recently had my eyelashes done and love it. I'm always greeted with a smile and a coffee...the place is great. You just have to know who to choose

I have been a client at AF Bennett's for over eight years and I have found the services to be as good as, if not better, than Mario Badescu in NYC.Jen Christie has been cut and coloring my hairs for years and I always get some many compliments on the cut and color. Blonde and it looks soft and natural. No one better than Jen.I recently had a massage with Colleen and it was the best massage I have ever had. She made me feel so relaxed, she was very professional and really made me feel so much better. I recently had surgery and she all the knots in my back and neck disappear.I immediately rescheduled a longer massage with Colleen as it was the most relaxed I had felt in a long time.I have always found any of the services to be done quite professionally and as far as I am concerned it is worth the money and the trip into the city for services was more expensive and I did not have to worry about the long drive home.I am so glad Ann and Frank opened this Spa here on Staten Isand as we certainly needed one of this calibre.Thanks Ann and Frank

I had a massage with Coleen on Sunday...just wonderful....professional, clean, she sent me to heaven. worth every penny! i normally just go to Harley for wax and facials on Saturdays and shes terrific but now from now on....I'm going for a massage as well. I'm so glad my hubby got me a gift cert for a massage.

I have been a loyal client of A F Bennett for 8 years and I have almost always had a perfect experience every time. I was really shocked and perturbed by the post from AnneMarie S who stated that A F Bennett did not pay their employees and were closing down. In my opinion the staff has always been happy and corteous. This is not a reflection of an unhappy staff. She must have been a one time client and has'nt given this Gem of a Spa a chance. I know this establishment very well and they have always treated me with the utmost respect and professionalism that I would expect. As far as i'm concerned I will continue to patronize this Business.

I agree with Jill in the below post - the people there are very pushy to sell, sell, sell...it makes the whole experience stressful. I think I know who you are talking about - it's like the girls are afraid of her - she's a thin, older woman that's very snobby! However, once you get past the front desk nuts, the people that actually do the work - hair, nails, facials, massage are all very sweet. I was there not too long ago...got an amazing massage, went back upstairs and had my hair done...everything once you get past the whole team of sellers was wonderful. I did notice when I was paying that again, I was being pushed to buy products. Overall I have to say - its the best spa I have been to in the area. I'm going to go back for the massage for sure and hair....

I had a gift certificate that was expired and they honored it anyway. The place is beautiful,I had a facial & massage, the facial was with Lois and it was wonderful! She took her time with me and explained to me how to take care of my skin. My massage was with Coleen, I will be back to see her as soon as I can! I totally agree with the other reviews! Very nice girl,knows what she's doing and put me on a cloud for the rest of the day. I went to Cloud 9 not too long ago and they herd you in and out like cattle. At Bennetts Not only are you greeted with so many extras but in between my facial and massage I had a relaxing time in the relaxation room with a glass of wine.

I'm constantly on the run, and get my eyebrows waxed wherever I am, I stopped at A.F. Bennett after meeting a friend Mike's Diner, not only where my eyebrows shaped beautifully, I didn't get those whiteheads afterwards...and, was offered coffee before and after...I will always go there for my waxing needs....no more stopping wherever, I'll make the effort to go A.F., it was actually a treat to get waxed...go figure!

the best part about afbennet is the spa.
the steam room and the relaxing room are beautiful spaces. On recommendation from my girlfriend, I recieved a massage from brooke.She has hands of gold! The hour massage almost put me to sleep. next time i will try the 90minute massage.

I don't normally write on these sorts of things but I was recently at AF Bennett this past weekend. They had the place set up beautifully for breast cancer awareness. It looked really nice, they had a fitting room set up so you could get measured. Coffee's and treats all on the house. It was so nice I didn't mind waiting for my services and was actually enjoying the time in between. It was a bit busy but I guess that's what happens on a Saturday and for such a great cause. I had a manicure that was wonderful, pedicure was good but to me too expensive. Hair blown out...I was very happy with. I see what your saying about the "young" girls at the front. They speak to you like they are dumb teenagers from highschool. There were 2 girls there that were very knowledgeable and nice...there was a shorter one there that was snapping her gum and saying "YEAH" alot. But this is SI and every place always has a few that don't fit in. The massage...I see what you are saying about Jill. I will NEVER go to her again. She cut me short by at least 15 minutes, was rude, I think she was either sick or on something....maybe drinking or something and something was going on cause I heard alot of ruckus and LOUD talk outside...most being done by her. And I'm pretty sure I wasn't scheduled with her at first. I will definetly go back again but from now on I'm requesting who I want to go to rather than getting who is available. For the price I paid, I should have had a more peaceful time.

I have been going to AF Bennett for many years now and overall the experience has been A++++ here are my reviews for those who care to go:
Facials - Harley is excellent and great at eyebrows. Lois is hit or miss sometimes she does a great facial other times it's OK but she also does a great wax. Alla has a great way about her and her facials are awesome. I had facials with a few of the other girls as well and they were good too..overall no complaints.
Nails - I only go to Nicky or Monica - wonderful. The pedicure room is absolutly devine and relaxing!
Hair - Vildana or Dana always do a great job! I have gone to Jeff as well...did a wonderful job. It is a bit pricey to get your hair done there.
Massage: I was just there this week for a massage. Collen did it and she has hands of gold and a personality to match! She takes her time with you, and you feel as if she really cares about you. Gabby - I have gone to her many times - always puts me into a deep slumber, just wonderful again a great personality, I always request her first! Kristen - she's Ok, like lois, she's a hit or miss. Jill is good if you want to get beat up and she shortens the massage. Tina - again, hit or miss. I have massages with a few of the others there as well they were good to.
I also had my make up done there twice - can't recall the names but they did a fantastic job. Only complaint was the make up itself..not a big fan of it.
PROS - The atmosphere is wonderful, clean and inviting
Negs - price, and the young trendy girls at the front desk leave a little to be desired. When getting a massage, I suggest going in the morning or last appt - it can be a bit noisy in the rooms.

I went to AF Bennett at the Spur of the Moment...I was happy that the morning of I was able to get an appointment and the best pedicure of my life, and, than as I was waiting to check-out, I wandered over to the make-up counter and was so excited that one of the make-up artist was able to show me and a great foundation, and awesome eyeshadow.

I wound up leaving content, because I bought a Spa Package for my friends 40th Birthday, which is a day of beauty, and I'm hinting for people to give that gift to me too!!!

I have been an avid patron of AF Bennett for about 5 years now. I have brought friends and family members as well because it is absolutely my favorite place to be. The few hours away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world melt away the minute I walk through the door and I just about float home every time I visit. I travel the world and have been to "top name" spas and still nothing beats AF Bennett for me. Yes it is a bit expensive..but can you really put a price on relaxation beyond measure???? You can't beat the professionalism of the staff, all the services ..as I have had many, and most of all because it is a small place..it's intimacy which makes me aaah for this spaaa over and over again..Can't wait to book my next appointment!!!

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF SPAS, CHECK OUT ALL THE OTHER FIRST. A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. ONCE YOU GET IN THEY ARE O.K., BUT AFTER YOU HAVE ANY PROCEDURE, ( MASSAGE, MANICURE ETC....) WELL ITS GIVE ME YOUR MONEY AND GET OUT. THEN THEY TRY TO SELL YOU ALL THE PRODUCTS AND IF YOU DON'T PURCGHASE ANYTHING THEN AGAIN THE GIRLS UP FRONT SNICKER AND SNEER

A F Bennet is an excellent spa. From the moment you walk through the door, you are pampered. I went here for a spa package, and the massage was excellent. You get a very large choice of lotions with varying scents. The spa pedicure is probably the most relaxing moment of all, well worth getting. Each aspect of the salon, massages, manicures and pedicures, haircuts, showers, are all separate and private. The atmosphere is of complete and utter luxury. I would definitely recommend the services at A F Bennett.

I came here because my friend gave me a gift certificate to use. I took in a spa on my visit and then followed by a full body massage which was excellent! They really know how to make you feel relaxed here! The place was rather clean and I didn't have to wait too long since I made an appointment before hand. Over all I'd recommend. Prices seem to be a bit high but well worth the service.

I went here for a massage and the people here are so nice and friendly. In addition to "wellness" packages, it is also a full service salon that has waxing, tanning, & hair care, so you'll find whatever you need here. They sell gift certificates too, which make for a good gift idea.
