I remember eating here for the first time, approximately 15 years ago and being blown away by the subtle elegant seasonings and absolutely delicious food. It is rather expensive so a visit here may have to be saved for a special occasion but I can guarantee that everything on this menu will delight. Highly recommended.

The food at Petaluma is truly the best Italian food I've had since arriving in NY 3 weeks ago. The only problem is the cost. It's about 3 times the cost of going a couple of doors down to get a pizza and some pasta. However, for a night out the ambiance and restaurant is very nice and set up in a cozy manner. The bar is also always hoping. I recommend the restaurant but always think it's a little too expensive. PROS: The pizzas and pastas are fantastic. Everything is home made and tastes better CONS: You end of paying for that better taste. Be prepared to spend $20 a head.

My wife and I recently took our kids (ages 9 and 11) to Petaluma on a Saturday night. I am always wary of restaurants labeled as ?kid friendly?, and I try desperately to avoid the chains and tourist traps like Jekyl and Hyde. This well-appointed restaurant on the upper East Side did not disappoint. I was initially put off when, depite having made a reservation weeks ago, we were ushered towards the back of the restaurant in what appeared to be the ?family? section (you parents with small kids have all been there before). Once seated, however, the management and staff could not have been more pleasant and accommodating to my family (the chef even made my daughter?s favorite pasta dish despite the fact that it was not on the menu). All of our meals were delicious and fairly reasonably priced (by NYC standards). My only ?complaints? (albeit minor ones) were that there was virtually no time to digest between courses as the food was served too fast, and there seemed to be a persistent effort on the part of management to turn tables as quickly as possible - they constantly hovered over the diners, trying to determine when the next table would become available. Can?t say as I blame them, as people were lined up out the door waiting to be seated when we left at about 8:30 PM. If you and your spouse want to feel like you?re out for a special ?night on the town? despite the fact that you have the kids with you, give Petaluma a try.

I have never had a bad meal here. It is not the best, but it is above average and the prices are reasonable. Plus, it's fairly big so you can always get a table without having to wait forever. I continue to go back every few months and I'm never disappointed.

Had the pasta with cream sauce and smoked salmon. Very bland and overpriced. Just an average restaurant at best.
