Ruth Chris Steakhouse's are always a top notch dining experience. I have been to this location at least a dozen times and they are consistently excellent! Besides the Fillet Mignon, my favorite is their Louisiana Style Shrimp. The butter sauce is excellent for dipping bread. The bill will never be cheap, but it's always money well spent. I recommend them to anyone who loves a good meal.

I recently had some girlfriends in the city for a fun holiday shopping/girls weekend. We ate at Ruth's Chris following a Saturday matinee and had a lovely time. The hostess that greeted us at the door was just lovely and she showed us to our prepared table immediately. Our server was very friendly, attentive and able to help us with our menu selections (we have a few picky eaters in the bunch). We had some fabulous cocktails and wine from the extensive menu and enjoyed our food- everything cooked perfectly to our specification! I would defintiely bring any friend back here for a wonderful, cozy meal!

I have eaten at so many steak houses all over the country and beyond, and I always rely on ruth's to be on the money - I can not believe these reviews... first of all people are making like it is so expensive - stop and think.... how much does it cost when you go to applebees? Maybe it is just me but our bill for two with tip is always close to 50 bucks and we don't drink.... so... for the $100 bucks (without drinks again) that you would spend at Ruth's Chris - you wouldn't agree that it is worth it? It is not 2 times better - it is a million times better. They have football sized filets cooked to perfection.... Perhaps it has been a while since I have been to this location - the last one I went to was the one in Long Island on Valentine's, maybe the city one is too 'city' - give the one in Long Island a try - or Jersey - they are usually on point - service, food, experience.

The Ambiance and the service was fine. BUT it was one of the worst steak I had in New York. I would expect at least some decent meat with the price I paid. The onion soup we had was also too thick and sweet.

I've been to many steak places and from all the hype this place has received I was expecting an out of this world experience. Needless to say it was not what I expected. The drinks and sides were delicious but the main entree left more to be desired. The steak although not bad, was not great either. It's a steak which I've tasted at much cheaper places. The environment was nice, not too noisy but not too loud either. The staff knew the menu very well and was very friendly. Overall it was a good experience but not a place I would go out of my way to dine at again.

i was surprised when my husband took me here for a surprise dinner. He just got a promotion at work. the staff was great, the steak was amazing and even the wine was handled with care! we got a $24 bottle and they made it feel like a $200 bottle. made us feel special. the whole night was relaxing and they didn't rush us out like some other places. i really like this place and will return for great steaks.

My friends and I came here last summer for Restaurant Week and one more time since then, because we absolutely adore this place (for the food of course). Great ambiance, professional wait staff, delicious filet mignion and mashed potatoes YUMM, and prompt service. We made reservations a week before and were greeted by a friendly hostess who seated us promptly. The bread basket and appetizers came out in a matter of minutes and the steaks were divine! even though they were slathered with a ton of butter. Everything was perfect, although I must say they should expand their wait staff to include female waitresses because it felt like they were employing sexist hiring policies...I don't know, it could just be me. Other than that, I enjoyed my steak dinner. And I agree with other reviewers; it's a bit pricey and there are other places in NYC that are more worthy but personally I would recommend Rith Chris'. Happy dining!

No doubt, this place had the hottest plates in a steakhouse this side of the Allegheny. 500 degree plates for everything! If you love hot plates like I love hot plates, you won't be disappointed. Great atmosphere and good looking guys. Only cons would be slightly pricey and the dessert plates were well under 500.

This place is the BEST place for Steak!! They know how to cook it and cook it well. Never to disappoint whether i eat it at Midtown NYC or all the way at Puerto Rico! I went to Palm's before, and they burned my steak, it was disgusting, BUT Ruth's Chris is the best place around. Try the Crabtini for appetizer, it's pretty good, the spinach & mashed potatoes sides are yummy too. I def. recommend this place!!!!

I was somewhat disappointed. Sure it looks nice. Comfortable. And I thought the service was good unlike others on here. Not fantastic but good. Food? Appetizers so so. Salads are unimaginative. Steak is average. I asked for steak au poivre and I got a steak with cold sauce on the side. what? Thats not how you serve it! sides were good but somewhat cold. Desserts were blaze. For this sort of money choose somewhere else. I hear Sparks is great but even more pricey (but you really dont care if its good), peter lugers.

Pros: Ambience, Service

Cons: Average food, cold sides

The food is beautifully presented and tasty (try the rib appetizer!). It is somewhat expensive, though. The service is efficient, though not particularly friendly. Rumor is that the waitstaff is instructed NOT to stop at the tables and ask "is everything all right?" or "do you need anything else?" Weird! The crowd is a nice mix of artists, tourists, and locals. The hostess was very accommodating to our ever expanding group... as it should be, since there are no reservations. --Eat Club is a roving group of NYC gluttons.

Pros: food presentation, mixed crowd

Cons: service slightly stand-offish, somewhat pricey

This was the worst service I have ever had in my life. Not only did we have to ask for our water/drinks/bread about 5 times, but the food was ICE COLD by the time it reached the table. My fish was cooked wrong twice and the sides of vegetables reeked like it had been sitting out for a week. Everything was overpriced and the place was crawling with bratty kids, tourists and loud trash. Skip it.

This was a restaurant week visit. I am always in the mood for steak and Ruth Chris was a place to visit. Ruth Chris is a true steak experience. They prepare the steak very simply and allow your palate to savor the meat. The dining area was airy and spacious. The waitstaff was attentive and very friendly.

The sides were adequate, and the desserts tasted average at best. If you love steaks and believe dining should be an enjoyable experience then Ruth Chris is a restaurant worth considering. However, anything that isn't steak will not be too appealling.

We went for restaurant week. I had the steakhouse salad which was VERY basic and I agree with a previous review that cited cheap supermarket croutons. I got the ribeye, asked for medium but it was medium well. It comes with a lot of melted butter on top, A LOT. I was just ok, nohting special, not awful but forgettable and overdone. We ordered an extra side to share (au gratin potatoes) and it was very small and nothing special. Dessert was some kind of "chocolate mousse" but it really seemed like a no bake pie recipe from the back of the jello box. The ambience and lighting are nice, service was just ok. Overall, not a good value for the regular menu. This is why I take advantage of restaurant week! I would not go back at full price. Morton's is so much better, as are so are many other places like Luger's, Angelo & Maxie's, Smith & Wollenky, Ben Benson's. I would not recommend it.

The bread: Tasteless white garbage. The butter: Tasteless whipped garbage. The calamari appetizer: Greasy and tasteless. The ?steakhouse salad? ok except for the cheap supermarket croutons. The $44 Cowboy Bone-In Ribeye: also tasteless. The most tasteless steak I have ever eaten. I do not believe it is prime beef. And also it was incredibly SMALL. You expect an inch-and-a-quarter-thick tasty piece of meat at this price. This half-inch-thick ribeye was just a small flat, soft thing with NO marbeling (tho the waitress told me I could expect heavy marbeling), and also ineptly prepared: I can introduce you to far better steaks at half the price in good Irish pubs. The ?petit filet?: Utterly greasy (too much butter). The ahi-tuna-and-crab ?stack?: A good concept but that dish should be cold, not warm. We fled before dessert. This restaurant is a disgrace to midtown Manhattan.

This was my first visit to Ruth's Chris and although the wait staff was hospitable and ready to please, the food was average at most. The sides are a joke. $8.50 for a side of button mushrooms that looked like they were just thrown onto the plate with the butter sauce and warmed up. Another $8.50 for one potato sliced up into 6-8 wedges. Nothing special about these sides. Tasted mediocre. In addition, I had to send my entree back because it was not cooked properly. The replacement dish was not much better either. What I paid for was the customer service and a portion of their monthly lease. There are definitely better steakhouses out there offering better prices and food- Strip House, Mark Joseph to name a few.

Go if you have a company expense account. Don't waste your own money.

My boyfriend surprised me by bringing me to Ruth Chris and it was my first time here. He said that the steak are really good and i told him a long time ago that i wanted to try but we didn't get a chance to till today. It was good but wasn't as good as i expected. The service was really good but the steak i ordered was some what burnt and inside was really raw. I asked for a medium and inside seem like it's not been cooked. The price was a bit expensive and thats about it. Happii Valentines day~!

I came into Ruth's expecting the same sort of experiences from other Ruth Steak House cities, but the NY version was very different than I expected. Perhaps the service has improved somewhat, given the fact my waiter was extremely courteous and friendly. The rest of the waitstaff was fast, prompt, and attentive to our needs. The steaks, being the main attraction of any Ruth's, were succulent and juicy, nearly perfect as I've had at any of the finest steakhouses. Accompanied by some truly tasty sides, the food was beyond what I expected. With its location being in the theater district, I noticed the beautiful interior with carpeted floors, tuxedo waitstaff, beautifully designed furniture, and very soft music playing in the background. Not all is perfect, as the prices were outrageous. One might be able to pay rent from a single bill of 4 people eating. The steaks themselves were sold a la carte, not to be bundled or combined with potatoes, veggies, etc. All in all, its worth trying if you have never been to a Ruth Chris or are willing to pay more for good steak. You can probably find better or just as good food at a place that is more prestigious and potentially less expensive.

Their steaks are just OK. You're better off going to Strip House for good meat. The service was good although we had a reservation and had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. The waiter was very friendly and gave us free dessert (anniversary dinner). I had the ribeye and it was decent but nothing special. They use a lot of butter here at Ruth's Chris so if you're not into that kind of steak better not come here. Prices are theater-district meaning a little overpriced. More value elsewhere but it's okay to try here once.

This Manhattan outpost of the typically reliable Ruth's Chris is a total tourist trap. We had one of the worst meals we have ever paid for in NYC, particularly considering the price for such mediocrity. The steaks had been pre-cooked and came out with a "gray" color. One of our guests ordered Tuna which was oversalted. When she told the waiter it was too salty, he said (not kidding) "Tuna is a salty fish. It swims in salt water." The entire meal, from food to service to decor was poor. We decided to try it as a new pre-theatre alternative. We would never go back.

This is a steak house, situated just a few blocks away from a bunch of other steak houses. It competes by cooking a great steak. Filet, Porterhouse, New York strip, etc. Those kinds of steak. From what I've tasted, they're all extremely delicious, and I'm not even a steak lover. Still, the flavors on the steak were amazing, the meat was juicy and tender, and the ahi tuna appetizer was really good as well.

As with most steakhouses, be ready to open up your wallet. These fat cuts don't come cheap.

I like my steak medium well. This is very difficult for some of the "top" steak houses in the ity to understand sometimes, as was the case at Ruth Chris last week. My steak was presented to me by the friendly wait staff and was basically raw in the middle. Now usually if I ask for my steak med. well and it comes back med. I can deal with it, but this was really bad. So I sent it back and asked for them to cook it a little more. The piece of meat that was returned to the table was virtually impossible to even eat! First off, the wait staff was not so friendly after I sent the meat back, basically throwing it down on the table the second time around and then just walking away. The worst part of the whole thing was just how horribly they butchered my steak. It was shriveled up and burnt to a crisp, unedible by anyones standards, I mean it was way overcooked even if you asked for it well done. I concluded that the chef took disrespect in the fact that I sent it back an d basically ruined my meal on purpose, who knows. At forty-one dollars a steak I think I should be the one to determine how it gets cooked and not some uppitity chef in the Ruth Chris kitchen. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND bringing your business to another steakhouse, there are too many options in NYC that actually know the difference between medium well and unservable.

What else can be said, but an outstanding place to have a great steak for dinner. The only disappointment was on our second visit too many tourist taking a lot of pictures and where also dressed down ( we could have shown up in jeans, sneakers). That said Ruth's Chris is both highly recommended by my girlfriend and me.

WE ARRIVED EXACTLY 8 MIN LATE, ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE BOOTH I REQUESTED WAS GIVEN AWAY. ONCE SEATED(APPROX 45 MIN LATER) THE WAITRESS GAVE US THE RUNDOWN.(i.e DON'T TOUCH THE 500 DEGREE PLATE)I ORDERED THE CRAB CAKES AND HE HAD THE BARBEQUE SHRIMP. EXCELLENT START. FOR THE ENTREE, I HAD THE FILET HE HAD THE NY STRIP. ALTHOUGH GOOD, IT WAS NOTHING THAT COULDN'T BE DONE AT HOME. WHILE DISTRACTED BY FLASHES OF THE PAPARAZZI(DRUNK TOURIST WITH CAMERAS) WE DID MANAGE TO CARRY ON A CONVERSATION OVER THE 20FT TABLE. THE DRINKS WEREN'T BAD(THUMBS UP ON THE PEACH BELLINI) AND SERVICE WAS ON POINT. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NIGHT... CREME BRULEE, CRAB CAKES. FOR 2 APPS, 2 ENTREES,2 SIDES, 3 DRINKS 1 DESSERT AND TIP THE BILL CAME TO $240. I'VE SEEN WORSE. OVERALL.... RECOMMENDED. WOULD I GO BACK?........ YES. IF SOMEONE ELSE PICKED UP THE CHECK.......... EVEN BETTER!

Pros: CRAB CAKES , PEACH BELLINI, CREME BRULEE

Cons: TOURIST

Everyone else but our waiter was very attentive, but he could not be bothered. I would hate for anyone to miss a Ruths Chris steak, but tonight our waiter was just...too busy with one other table, to be bothered. Very disappointing.

We arrived early for our reservation and the staff was most accomodating. We were seated promptly and the service was very good. We started with Lobster Bisque and Louisiana Seafood Gumbo, which were excellent, followed by our entrees, a Petit Filet and a NY Strip which were cooked to perfection and accompanied by Sweet Potato Casserole which could have been presented as a dessert it tasted so good and Broccoli Au Gratin which was also very good. The desserts were out of this world and a fitting conclusion to a fine meal. The only improvement I would suggest would be to include a salad with the entree. Other than that, everything was outstanding. Heartily recommended!

I know it's a chain, but I swear every time I come here I marvel at the steaks. They really are as good as Luger, and the atmosphere is SOOOOO much nicer. If you can't make it out to Brooklyn, don't settle for crap like Wolfgangs. Check out Ruth's Chris.

Went to dine at RC the other night and it was excellent. The food was delicious, the staff very curtious. The decor very nice.
The cons I would say were there were some people dressed nicely, while others came in to dine in a sweatshirt or with cell phones in their ears. Definatly a turn off.
The drinks are over priced in my book as well.
All in all a very nice dinging experience. I will definatly go back again.

I have eaten at several ruthchris steak houses from dallas to ny, (including garden city). I am always impressed by the consistency. The porterhouse steak for two is superb in every location. The service is exemplary, the ambience and friendliness of the staff is first rate. I have never had to wait for a table with a reservation. The only other restauant that compares is Peter Luger, and I prefer Ruthchris, the atmosphere is on a higher level. If you are looking for a truly great steak, do not pass up this restaurant.

Food : A++

No other steakhouse in Manhattan can beat Ruth's Chris. The service is warm and professional while the food is out of this world. I went to Ruth's Chris with my family and we all ordered different things from the menu: vegetarian plate, stuffed chicken, tuna and of course a couple steak cuts. Everything came out piping hot and delicious. Dont get too full because the deserts are too good to pass up. This is by far the best steak house in NY!! I have sent friends and family here and they all have become fans!!

I have ate in Ruth's Chris steakhouse before and was impressed, however this time around the quality wasn't there. Apart from the rare to medium rare mistake on my steak, the food was ok and and not worth the money. I think outback steakhouse would have been better that night.

food was fantastic. must be terrible for my diet, but so mouth-wateringly good. service is the major drawback. Fiance and I asked to have a quiet/romantic table, and were seated adjascent to other loud groups. There were plenty of corner/booth and quiet seats available. when we asked to be moved, the hostess said she wouldn't want to inconvenice her waiters by having us sit away from other diners (at these prices, this leve of service is unacceptable!). customers mostly tourists and can ruin the otherwise subdued atmosphere. despite these drawbacks, the food is good enough to draw me back for more

I am a steakaholic and have eaten staek just about every good steakhouse in the city. Ruth Chris has the best steak by far! They come sizzling on a extremely hot plate and you can hear it sizzling even when your half finished with your steak! The BBQ shrimp in cajun butter is addictive and they have the best Creme brulle around! The place is pricey, but well worth it. I make it a point to dine here once a month if I can help it. Steak anywhere else just doesn't taste right. Leaves a void in my mouth.

With scaffolding outside the building having been there for more than a year, the restaurant actually looks fairly grotty. This is a decent, acceptable steakhouse, but there is nothing special or redeeming to make this a destination trip at all. At the same price range, there are significantly more interesting steakhouses to venture to.

My boyfriend took me here for our annyversary, sure it's not the most romantic plcae, but the food was reall great. The servive was good too. They were very polite and professional. I had salmon and spinach and it was really good. The meat wasn't too dry. I recomend it for any occasion...if you have the $$$$. It is expensive, but it's well worth it!

Expecting better, we were very disappointed in both quality of food and service. The waiter recommended we order a round of appetizers for the table which came out to 8 dishes for over $100!!!! Plus, wine list was not too impressive.
This is nothing but tourist trap crap.
For real steak, stick with Luger's or Sparks. One more reason to avoid chain restaurants...

If you live in Jersey, there is a Ruth'c Chris by the Lincoln Tunnel. You'll save yourself parking, toll and traffic. Deciding that it was time to take a break from being a vegetarian I had Ruth's Chris in mind for a night of 'sin'. I had the Petite Filet-not wanting to shock my system. The meat lacked the taste my nose had hoped for. I knew asking for the A-1 was out of the question so I dealt with it. They sat myself us in the back of the restaurant-away from the noise that I hadn't expected of the dimly lit restaurant. Argubly the best seat in the house-we did feel castaway. Great wine selection, good desert, but the friendly service would warrant another trip. Hey its better than Sizzlers!

I've been to many great steakhouses and this was the worst experience I have ever had. I took my father who was visiting me for what I thought would be a great quality dinner. The filets were extremely greasy, not buttery and juicy. The filet and appetizers tasted like TGI Friday's quality. After the great reviews, I was extremly dissapointed. I will not venture from Palm Steakhouse to visit Ruth's Chris again! I could have cooked a better steak myself. The only positive was the nice ambiance.

Went to Ruth's Chris Steak House last night and it was absolutely delicious. This was the 3rd time my husband went - once in Pittsburgh and the other in Cancun. All were great. I would highly recommend this place. The steak melts in your mouth. I especially like the garlic mashed potatoes, while my husband enjoys the au gratin. We brought my parents there - and they absolutely loved it! Will continue to go! PS - The service was excellent!

I was very impressed!! This was absolutely the best steakhouse I have ever been to. The butter was sizzling on the steak when they brought it out. The staff really worked hard to make sure everything was perfect. Even the manager, as busy as I'm sure he was, came over to ask how our meal was. You don't see that much anymore. I would stongly recommend Ruth Chris' to anyone visiting New York.

This is my top #1 steakhouse! I don't care if some think it may be over-hyped, because I have been to ALL the steakhouses and their steak does melt in your mouth and is the best! The smell of pink rare steak cooking in hot sizzling butter...what more can I say?
