In Short
From its second-story perch, this modern salon situates its styling chairs to overlook the chic 57th Street shops below--and lends that same high-fashion inspiration to their hair styling. Neither snobby nor overly-trendy, Teeluck's simple but marble-embellished surroundings and top-level staff create classic hair, brows and nails. The colorists are trained in the French technique of baliage, which eschews foils for a more natural looking result, and allows for fewer touch-ups.

Key Points

  • Full-Service NYC Salon
  • Balayage Color Highlights, Cut
  • New Late Night Evening Hours!

The Inside Scoop

  1. Manicures/Pedicures - Have your nails painted while you cut or color and emerge fully gorgeous in half the time.
  2. What to Drink - Have them brew you a frothy cappuccino, made with quadruple-filtered water, to sip on while you get coiffed.
  3. Hair Removal - In-house brow guru Duffy will put plucking junkies on a "Brow Beautification Program" where any and all tweezer-use is strictly prohibited until she gets you to the shape you were born to wear.

Ratings_icons Roy Teeluck salon is way above average and that is why they are soo busy!!

J987

I used to get my highlights done at another salon. Unfortunately, I had to stop going there and I was very nervous for the change. I prefer balayage to foils for highlights and there are only few salons who use this technique. I decided to try Roy Teeluck as the salon comes highly recommended. Sandra made me happy! My highlights are perfect and I got a complimentary manicure too! Change is good! Thank you.

Ratings_icons Hair Genie/Genius

I have followed Gabriel Shimunov for 10 years now- Fort Lee, N.J., Warren Tricomi Salon and now Roy Teeluck Salon. I have cheated on him in between to find a hairdresser closer to home (suburbs of NJ), but have always returned to have him fix my butchered hair. "Gabriel" has become a common name in my conversations with my family, friends and strangers as I always get compliments on my hair. They too are now all fans and we all trust Gabriel to give us fabulous hair, whether it be for casual occasions or black tie affairs, ie every family member's wedding/special moments. Gabriel can take direction and give you any hairstyle you desire and, for moments of uncertainty, can give you direction always leaving you ecstatic with the final outcome. The only thing I require from Gabriel is that he never moves and never retires!

Ratings_icons Best Bayalage

yorkiedog

I have finally found a salon and a colorist that I want to go back to. Abby Haliti created the most beautiful, natural bayalage highlights without the usual brassy tones I have gotten in several other salons. She made me feel so relaxed that I actually forgot that I was having my color done, which is something that usually makes me nervous after a few color "mishaps" at some New York big name salons.
The atmosphere at the salon is very friendly and non pretentious and I would recommend this place and Abby to anyone who wants a high end experience with a low key attitude.

Ratings_icons BEST HAIRCUT!!!!!!!!!!

angils219

In these hard economic times, what a delight it is to find a hairdresser that can meet both of these requirements! I can truly say that 'Citysearch' came through for me again...Thank you Citysearch! Gabriel did FANTASTIC job on my haircut & style. I came to him with hair that was all messed up from an awful job that this other salon did on my hair. And Gabriel completely FIXED it!! He is Very good at what he does, and my hair never looked better, and is in much better condition as well. And his prices are very reasonable to begin with for the quality job he does, I am very happy.... And want everybody else to know what a great find he is. If your reading this, consider yourself LUCKY to have found him!! I know I am!!

Pros: A++ Stylist at affordable prices.

Ratings_icons All Around Wonderful Experience

vn1

okay, here's the deal: when you go to an expensive restaurant, you expect the most impeccable service and the best culinary experience ever, right? if you follow that train of logic, those of us who pay (dearly) for the salon services available in New York should also have high expectations of the experience that we worked so hard to earn. it's not just abt the name of the salon - you're paying for the best quality of product, technique and service that you can, as well as the respect that naturally comes from a service provider to a customer. the roy teeluck salon not only made me realize that i was missing out on that; i also learned that there is a great warmth when your salon really cares about what it's doing, and no amount of money can guarantee that.

i was in just last night on a fluke opportunity for a color training class. the trainer, nancy braun, was amazing, and i got to have my hair colored by abby. the techniques used at roy teeluck and the depth to which they care were the most impressive things to me. the thought that nancy echoed again and again was that, when a customer walks away unhappy with her results, it's usually because there was a lck of communication to determine what she wanted. this, among other things, was teaching at its finest, and it serves as a perfect example of the motivation behind this salon.

the staff is full of friendly, knowledgable people who know what they're doing and whose work speaks volumes - abby and danielle were great people and very skilled, and i knew after watching the class that i would be just as pleased to have met and worked with anyone else at the salon. i would highly recommend them to anyone who was seeking the security of a friendly environment that also happens to offer the best in the industry.

Ratings_icons Best Hair Cut I've Ever Had!!!

Dylis

I am a working actress in the city, so my hair is extremely important to me. I have lived in New York City for thirteen years, and out of all of the salons I've tried through the years, Roy Teeluck is by far the best. I highly recommend Tim Johnson!!! He gives the best hair cuts, and he is also an incredible colorist. I have long, curly, reddish hair, and it has been really hard to find someone who can layer my hair nicely. Tim cut and layered it beautifully. He listens very closely to what you want, and then he delivers it! He also has done my color in the past, and I absolutely LOVED it! I have received so many compliments on my hair because of Tim. Again... I cannot rave enough about Tim's work, and Roy Teeluck as a salon. You will walk out feeling absolutely beautiful and happy!!!

Ratings_icons GREAT STYLIST!!!!

Fsilizabeth

Gabriel Shimunov is priceless! I was recommended to Gabriel by a good friend who had her hair cut done by him-and I am the happiest woman in the world! Gabriel?s hair cut is so precise, and he cuts to the individual- not a one-size- fits-all. The cut and style he gave me was as well specific to me--not like other places that don't care, this men works with love. He takes his time and creates a beautiful look for everyone. Gabriel is worth 20 stars and I hope he never leaves Roy Teeluck salon because I'll be a customer of his forever.

Ratings_icons Sun-kissed, gorgeous and natural color

mschrissylyn

For beautiful color with exceptionally natural and stunning results you can't do better than Nancy Braun at the Roy Teeluck Salon. I've been to many of the "top" salon's in both Los Angeles and New York and can't say I've had better results with anyone. She uses the "balayage" technique as opposed to foils. This allows for less out-growth and less damage to the hair. In French, balayage translates to "brush". Instead of very unnatural stripey highlights, Nancy paints on color that elicits a very sun-kissed quality---think Giselle Bunchen's honey-hued locks--very natural and subtle but in a knock-out, what's different about you kinda way. She lightens hair gradually from root to tip, creating the ultra natural effect which mimics nature's way of lightening your hair. I like the way she takes face shape, eye color and skin tone into account when figuring out kind of look she wants to create. All said she is brilliant! One thing to keep in mind is that she is primarily based in Los Angeles and is usually in NYC about once a month.

Pros: professional, amazing results, friendly staff

Ratings_icons Consistently Wonderful!

happywithhairfinally

I have gotten my hair colored twice with Sandra and both times I have been completely happy with her! I?ve bounced around a bit with hair salons since I am quite picky, but I am finally happy with my colorist! Sandra is great, so accommodating, listens to what you want and she is confident in her work which intern made me feel at ease. I get single process with highlights done. I am very happy with my color and I get many compliments on it! My experience at Roy Teeluck salon from start to finish was stress free! They were very accommodating with fitting me in for an appointment is short notice, the service was great, everyone was very friendly and best of all it wasn't too expensive.

Ratings_icons Great haircut by Roanni for my curly, unruly hair!

countrycitygirl

Having moved from the city to the country years ago, my haircuts kept going downhill & I finally decided to go back to the city for a cut. I have curly unruly hair that I like to both blow-dry straight and let go natural. I did my research and went in to the city for an appointment with Gabriel. About an hour before my appointment, I got a call that Gabriel was sick so I agreed to have Roanni cut my hair. I was a little nervous but was very reassured from the start. Roanni softened the layers and showed me how to blow-dry the bangs. She was great & I felt much more cosmopolitan walking the streets after my haircut. When I got home my husband said it looked great & made me look longer ( a good thing!).

I guess I will be visting the city every few months now!

Pros: great cut & blow-dry - on-schedule

Ratings_icons A De-Mommification Case with Ali and Sandra

hapmom

I am a mommy. My child is my life. Nevertheless, 5 years later I felt a little too plumpy, my hair straggly, my self-esteem at its lowest ; I no longer took care of myself the same way I did before my baby. I am sure many of you know what I am talking about.
So after feeling sorry for myself for nearly a year, I decided to snap out of my typical mommification case. So, what better, quicker fix that good highlights and a good hair cut? A friend of mine, another mommy, recommended Roy Teeluck"s Ali and Sandra.
The entire experience was OUTSTANDING! The concierge, the salon, EVERYTHING from the beginning to end was wonderful. Sandra and Ali discussed my options with me, listened to my issues and made suggestions...THANK YOU GUYS! We decided on highlights and sandra painted the most beautiful, most natural highlights. I've had highlights before, but never this beautiful, pure light blonde, so shiny and light. She made sure to frame my face really well and the overall effect was very sophisticated. Then Ali started his magic...sigh...WHy was I so afraid to get side bangs? My hair looked stunning, it looked glamorous! It looked bouncy and full. Ali cut it to perfection. Most importantly, I felt womanly again! I felt attractive, daring and young again. My hair cut and my color were in perfect harmony...like Romeo and Juliet. PERFECT! But beyond the fantastic results, the entire place is wonderfully balanced: relaxed, friendly and devoid of affectation. This place is REAL!! I would recommend it to all the moms who forgot to live a little for themselves too...:) I am in love with my hair! Hey, what do you know, I think I'll join the gym next...

Pros: talented, nice, cozy

Ratings_icons Great Salon Experience in all areas

CSisGr8

If you are looking for a great experience from start to finish, Roy Teeluck is the place to go for Hair Care. Everyone who works there is so nice and the place has great energy. Equally as important, is the skill of their stylists and all who work there. Firstly, Roy, a total hottie, is as talented as he is gorgeous. I have had my hair cut by every great salon owner in NYC over the past 20 years and I have never found anyone better than him. I go to MIchelle for color and she is amazing. She works magic and is always kind and wonderful. I have never had a hastle getting an appointment. If you need your brows done, Duffy is one to go to. I can's say enough nice things about this salon, and highly recommend it. And it looks like I am in the company of 371 other people who feel the same.

Pros: The staff makes you look really beautiful

Cons: none

Pros: Great haircuts

Cons: located in New York and I live in Dallas

Ratings_icons I love my hair color Sandra!!

extremedisneygirl

I recently moved from Arizona to NYC and have had highlights for 5 years. I have dark brown hair with blonde highlights (at least they were supposed to be blonde). I had my highlights retouched last week in AZ and my hair was a mess! The top of my hair was red and orange and reminded me of red tarantula legs.

I read the reviews on Citysearch and decided to visit with Sandra. She was FANTASTIC! She listened to my concerns and suggested a color correction so that we could start with a more natural color and then add back ?sun kissed highlights?. She showed me pictures and took her time to understand what I was looking for. I was so excited that I scheduled an appointment for later that day.

Sandra was encouraging and knowledgeable. She really cared about my hair and worked very diligently to fix it. She suggested Balayage and painted on my highlights. She made sure I was comfortable and also offered complimentary drinks while I was going through my transformation.

After my color was complete, I had my hair blown dry by Lexi. She was very friendly and created beautiful volume in my hair. I have never had it so full of volume and it looked great! Sandra was close by and made sure that my color looked just perfect when it was all complete.

I am so happy with my new hair color and I can?t wait to go back for a hair cut and deep conditioning treatment. Everyone in the salon was so friendly and made you feel comfortable. THANK YOU Sandra and Lexi!!

Ratings_icons BYE BYE FEKKAI.....HELLO GORGEOUS, HEALTHY BLOND HAIR...BEAUTIFUL CUT....GREAT ENVIRONMENT

KAPTIVA

Ms. Michelle Fury is a Balayage Master.

As a native New Yorker who has been away for several years and now lives East Coast/ West Coast, I have been searching for a New York Salon with the Color Standards that I experienced with Frederic Fekkai in the late 90's and early 2000....with Constance Hartnett, now retired Balayage Queen.

In this Search, I have had bad experiences with three other "Top" Salons in New York. The results were
orange roots, brassy highlights, coupled with a "distracted" attitude by their top colorists.

A friend of mine from Vancouver, Canada recommended Michelle , who had given her "The most beautiful
blond highlights" she had ever had.

I am hooked....Michelle is one of the BEST Balayage Colorists I have experienced (I've been getting highlights from top salons for well over 15 years). She is knowledgeable, professional, she WANTS TO
LISTEN to what you have to say because she respects the fact that YOU know more about your hair
than anyone.

Michelle's color is gorgeous....Dora's Cut was fabulous....I left the salon feeling beautiful and energized.

And....the Atmosphere is friendly, professional and so comfortable, you will feel as if you have been a
Client for years.

I cannot recommend this Salon Highly Enough.

I flew in from Florida for the appointment and will do it again. I am so happy to have found this Salon and
this Team.

I've never written a review for the Internet before....but am thrilled to pass my experience on to you.

Pros: Salon High Standards/Staff Excellent Expertise/Salon Ambience

Cons: none come to mind

Ratings_icons Roy Teeluck Salon is the BEST!!

CMatus

I recently moved to NYC from Phila. I tried a few stylists and colorists mistakening thinking that I'm in NYC they all must be good. Well expensive yes but good know. I went online and found Roy Teeluck's Salon and read some reviews. I made an appt and randomly got Michele and Enzo. They were patient and willing to do what I asked for 3 sessions. I finally realized the reason I was going to them was for their expertise. I didn't like how my hair looked. They tried to do as I wanted but made some comments and recommendations that I wasn't ready to hear. Finally I told Michele that I'm a brunette not a blonde and I wanted to go to my more natural color with minimal highlights. She was thrilled because that is what she thought I should do and was professionally tactful not to push me. When she colored my hair I loved it, looked healthy and better, and people even in the salon said wow...you came in with lighter hair and it looks great this way. She is professional and her willingness to work with me made me trust her to do what she wanted to do with my hair. I'm grateful to her for making it look so good. Enzo was my stylist who couldn't believe what my hair looked like and tried to correct the awful cut, patiently tried to allow my slow growing hair to grow in...and after the 3rd time cutting my hair encouraged me to do a little something different to get rid of the boxie style. I agreed but could still see he thought I needed more. I again realized I hated my hair the way I thought I wanted it and told him to do what he thinks is best. I LOVE MY CUT! It looks healthy, I look better, and now it can grow in with a style. I think they are each so professional, so talented, and so in touch with how to have customers trust them to do the right look for the customer. I am so happy I found this salon. I also like that every time I'm there Roy is there too. It's not just a name it is his place. They are the BEST!!!

Pros: Worth the price, professional, superior personalized service

Ratings_icons Great Salon, but not worth the hype

busterbrown16

I have been so excited for my appt for weeks after reading the great reviews for the Roy Teeluck Salon. I have blonde hair, but I felt it was too platinum for my fair complexion and Russ was my colorist. He was EXTREMELY nice and talked and joked with me throughout the process. At first I thought my hair looked orange-ish (?) but after it dried it looked much better. I don't see much of a difference for the price that I payed because my roots are still a little darker than the rest of my hair, but everyone in the salon was great. I was asked by several people if I needed anything or wanted anything to drink and the girl that shampooed my hair, I think her name is Danielle, could not have been more pleasant. I had my hair styled afterwards by Dora who wasn't as friendly, but perhaps she was having a bad day. Sometimes I felt like they were pushing more products/services on me telling me how great they were or that I needed i, but I know it was to spend more money so just think twice about whether you REALLY need anything else done. I don't think I will be going back because I'm a college student with a budget and I feel like the salon I go to could have done the same thing. It was a good experience though.

Pros: Personable, Professional

Cons: Expensive

Ratings_icons Tim is INCREDIBLE!!

LisaRey

I have been going to Tim for my color, highlights and haircuts for 2+ years and he is simply the best, hands down. My hair is thick and curly and I am extremely picky so in the past, I have had so much trouble finding a colorist and stylist that I trusted. After reading all the amazing reviews that others posted about Tim, I decided to give him a try. Tim impressed me from the minute I met him. He took the time to talk to me before he started, asking me questions about my lifestyle and the look I wanted. After spending a few hours with him, I was amazed at what he had done - beautiful, natural looking highlights and an extremely flattering style that worked well regardless of whether I wore my hair curly or straight. I couldn't have been happier. Roy Teeluck Salon was beautiful as well - complimentary wine, coffee or water and amazing manicures while you are getting your hair done. Everyone was so nice and accomodating! Since that first experience, I have been back to see Tim regularly and he is total miracle worker! I completely trust his judgment and always ask his advice or opinion about different shades of color or cuts that would work for me. He is always spot on and just when I don't think he can impress me more, he always does. He is incredibly talented, genuine, fun to talk to and he makes you look and feel like a million bucks. He is my absolute favorite and I will never, ever go anywhere else again. Do yourself a favor and schedule an appointment with Tim - I promise you he will transform you into the best version of yourself!!

Pros: Tim!!!!!!!!

Cons: There aren't any - Tim, as well as the Salon, are incredible.

Ratings_icons Most natural looking highlights ever!

slabow1

I have been going to Nancy Braun for 10 years for highlights. She is quite simply the best. I first heard about her through a friend who was a publicist for several high profile celebrities. I asked her for a recommendation and I've been seeing Nancy ever since. I can honestly say I have the most natural looking highlights ever! She does this process called balayage which doesn't require any foils--she just paints it on and instead of looking like I just had my hair colored, I look like I just got back from a vacation at the beach. The color lasts which means fewer trips to the salon which I actually wouldn't mind since she makes the whole experience fun! She's just really down to earth and extremely talented. She is quite simply the best hair colorist period. It really doesn't get any better!

Ratings_icons The most beautiful highlights ever!

Catgirl10014

Last Saturday I went to the Roy Teeluck salon, and I'm so glad I did. My
colorist was Abby and she gave me the best highlights I have ever had in
my life! She talked to me about my hair and suggested a french technique
of highlights called balyage. Always before at other salons I have had
the tin foil in my hair, but Abby treated my hair like a fine fabric. She
hand painted each highlight like an artist. It felt a little strange to
have my head covered in cotton and plastic wrap, but the results were
amazing! So natural and still close to the root. This will definitely
last me until the spring! I'm so glad I tried something different. And I
have to say that unlike a lot of hairdressers who seem shallow or stuck up
and chit chat so I feel like I have to make small talk about their lives
instead of just relaxing Abby is super-nice and friendly, but not like
that at all. We talked for a bit and then I was able to read a magazine
and enjoy my (complementary) fancy coffee and leave refreshed. Also the
front desk people were so nice. It wasn't a perfect experience though -
they were having some kind of problem with their water and seemed to be
trying to do a lot with not the greatest space. But really all that
matters is my beautiful highlights. It's been 3 days and I'm still so
happy with how they look. I will definitely go back to Abby!

Ratings_icons Roy Teeluck is the best- Sandra is amazing!!

jen34

I went to Roy Teeluck for the first time to brighten my look for going back to work after my maternity leave- I really needed a pick-me-up, but I was also concerned it not look artificial- On my first day back, I didn't want anyone at the office to notice an abrupt change, rather to just think I looked more alive and vibrant. Sandra was very professional and outlined a few choices for me, but suggested "balayage" as a way to achieve what I was looking for- to put life back into my dull light colored locks. Wow! I am truly impressed. My husband (of course) forgot I was having an appointment, and that night he said he thought I finally looked rested after my maternity leave! (If it can work on him, it can work on everyone!) It seems to take a real talent to do balayage- something I don't think I would ever trust my old "regular" salon with. In fact, I want Sandra to be my colorist from now on, I feel really taken care of and safe in her hands. Thanks!

Pros: Very Professional advice but not pushy.

Cons: None!

I can't be grateful enough to my girlfriend for sharing her stylist with me! Tim showed a genuine interest and wanted to know more than what I would've liked my hair to look like. We went over my life style, habits and maintenance and he came up with the BEST hair style I have ever had in my life. It looks sophisticated, modern and I LOVE my side swept bangs!! I understand now the difference between an artist and the average stylist. I was surprised to see Roy Teeluck salon that busy, but after an awesome service, I get it!! It is not your typical salon. Everyone is friendly and super-polite and Tim is the nicest and most talented person I've met in a really long time. WOW!

Pros: clean, friendly, professional, late appointments!!

cheveuxmagnifiques76

I made my decision to visit Roy Teeluck salon based on City search reviews, so I'd like to share my experience with this community. My natural hair color is light brown, sort of mousy with highlights. Sandra was my colorist. She was very nice and suggested the french balayage. I never had it done before and she explained the difference between that and foils. She seemed so passionate about her job , so I trusted her. I still looked silly though, my head adorned with cellophane and cotton... However, my highlights were truly gorgeous!!! They were beautifully distributed and they looked both natural and defined. I love my highlights!!!

Pros: beautiful salon, wonderful service, friendly

Ratings_icons MICHELE IS NOT THE WORST COLORIST SHE IS THE BEST

Lizgirl56

I just happened to look at Roy Teeluck City search when I read the review about Michele. I actually was sitting next to you in the salon, and yes I'm a blond. If you remember she sat with you and explained step by step why your hair was three different colors and why you could not have the color you wanted. You sat there and agreed to go back to your natural color . Michele talked to you so much she was running late for my appointment. I have been going to Michele for 3 years at the ROY TEELUCK salon and she can have a crazy busy day and she always is smiling, and bubbly. I have seen her due ethnic clients as well, and treats them all the same. I don't know how city search could allow a person to post false information about individual.
Michele stopped my highlights and came up to you and asked you If you were happy with your color. You were to busy having a disagreement with your mother to answer her. I am so happy I decided to check city search tonight because Michele did not deserve your review. She dose deserve a review saying she is the best colorist in NYC and she is honest . Sometimes you can't have what you want the first time you walk into a salon. I could not have what I wanted the first time and slowly I was able to achieve my color. Thank you Michele for keeping my hair happy and healthy...... YOU ARE NUMBER 1

After a bad experience with another colorist at Roy Teeluck my whole experience was changed by a wonderful person Sandra. She is understanding, practices patience, attentive.....everything one would hope for. Sandra took time to talk to me and understand what my ideas were and what was I looking for. Sandra suggested to give my hair color a new dimension but putting only a few highlights very subtle to meld with my base color. For the first time I did not ask for swatches of color and I was pleasantly surprised with my hair color. Sandra gave me beautiful warm brown highlights and a beautiful light brown for my base color. Sandra also did my moms hair and the color came out beautiful. My mother also loves her. She is so positive that everything turns out wonderful....the crew that works with her is so pleasant such as Danielle, Lexi, Keith. I am so happy that I found Sandra
I would recommend her to friends and family

Pros: best female colorist at Roy Teeluck

Many of the stylists & colorists working at RoyTeeluck received glowing reviews but I choose to see Sandra & Ali. I could not be happier with the results and feel my hair looks better than ever! Before staring, Sandra & Ali both took the time to speak with me about my hair including what I liked and disliked about its current state. They were patient while I explained previous hair traumas and showed them picture after picture of the style and color I desired. Sandra transformed the color of my overly highlighted blonde locks into rich golden shades that complement my skin tone and make my eyes look the bluest of blues. Ali worked wonders with his scissors and the cut he created looked far better than the model pictures I had showed him. Sandra & Ali are not only extremely talented hair artists but they are also very nice, unpretentious people. During the past 10 years I have visited more than 15 salons in Manhattan, Hoboken, Greenwich & Westchester and I have never received better service or attention than at RoyTeeluck. Please go see Sandra & Ali if you really want your hair to look as beautiful as possible.

Pros: Extremely talented Colorists & Stylists

Cons: The salon space was a bit too small and crowded

Sniffygg

Sandra Valilescu transformed my hair ffrom dull brown to a magnificent array of colors and highlights and restrained my natural desire for dramatic, chunky highlights to a look far more approriate and suitable to my face and age. She rocks. Sigourney Weaver was there so they maintain some high standards. I have finally found my color goddess!

Pros: Thumbs way up!

Cons: Expensive

Ratings_icons Great place for coloring and highlights

silverorchid666

Based on citysearch?s raving review about the salon, I decided to give it a try and now it?s my time to share my experiences for other reviewers.
I decided to see Sandra for my coloring. I bought some photos with me for the colors and communicate what I would like. Sandra really listened to me and my concerns. I was open for different options and we decided to go with a single processed color and a highlight. I was nervous at first since I have Asian hair (although I have my hair dyed and with black roots this time) ? very often I either get too light or too dark of the color ? it seems very hard to get the perfect shade unless I get my hair done in Asia. However, Sandra delivered it! The color come out with more red undertone than the photo but looks totally nature on me. It suites my skin tone and looks perfect. Overall, I have a very good experience and would give it a try again.
GOOD THINGS -----------
*** SERVICE: great. Very friendly, down to earth yet very professional salon.
**** LOCATION: very convenient. It?s across from Four seasons and easy to find.
**** PRODUCT USED: very good. L?oreal was what was used to color and highlight my hair.
**** PRICE: very good. I have long hair and paid $100 for single process and $125 for highlight. I definitely think it?s worth it after seeing the result.

TO BE IMPROVED-----------
*** INTERIOR: it?s very clean, but the interior can have a little bit upgrade. Overall it?s a comfortable space.
*** EQUIPTMENT: If there is one area to make it better, I think some ?EAR COVERS? would really help the coloring process. I have sensitive skin and it really burned my ears when the dye was touch the back of my ears.

Pros: almost everything: service, skill, staff, location, price...etc

Cons: I wish ear covers were used during color/highlight

What a way to start the new year! I finally found a salon that's walking distance to my home - and with great services. Sandra patiently listened to what I wanted, dug around in my hair to look at the various lowlights and highlights, made some suggestions as to what is best to refresh my roots, and gave me excellent hilites. I was a little nervous - but the glass of champagne and manicure (part of a newcomer's special on YELP) calmed me down. Tim also listened to my hair trim wants - compared what I thought was 2 inches vs. the reality of 2 inches to trim off and gave me fabulous layers and a wonderful blowout. Both Sandra and Tim were so down-to-earth and friendly. And the shampoo gal, manicurist, and receptionist were also friendly. I found the prices reasonable - and since I'm not in the salon every month, OK on day-per-wearing basis. I'll definitely be back as I'm so happy that I found a salon that suits my style and is convenient for me. enjoy!

Ratings_icons DYNAMIC HAIR DUO

ELLYO

I recently had been on an independent quest for a hair salon that I would feel comfortable with in terms of overall atmosphere and that would of course, make my hair look great! I looked on city search and found reviews for the Roy Teeluck salon that inspired me to make my "Holiday/New Year" makeover appointment. A little nervous about the decision I had made to cut my hair length significantly, I was more concerned at the time about the "right" stylist for "big changes" and Tim was recommended.

I showed for my appointment and I was immediately pleased with the friendliness of the reception staff as well as the relaxed, yet professional setting. I first met with Abby for coloring consult and she was both pleasant as well as honest in her advice to not make any changes in color for that visit. Upon introduction to Tim for styling consult, however, he asked many insightful questions such as "What did the best cut I ever had look like?", "Did I feel this current style matched who I was as a person?", "Was my profession more cooperate or more creative?". I loved the fact that Tim asked these questions to know me better as a "new" client.

Basically, Tim worked his magic and brought me from "black and white" to "color" in his cut alone! He was meticulous and made sure to move my hair around in different angles, observing how it looked wet and then how it naturally dried. As for my next visit, I asked Tim for a colorist that he worked with more regularly. He recommended Sandra who brought light and contrast to my hair while not making it looked "overworked". Tim and Sandra are a dynamic hair duo! Both were absolutely great and I can't imagine a better job elsewhere, with anyone else.

Ratings_icons Beautiful hair & wonderful service + champagne too??? WOW!

I decided to chose Roy Teeluck salon based on an extensive research, as well as a desire to find a less snobby atmosphere. The concierge was wonderful, a cappuccino magically appearead and they even had champagne!! Sandra was my colorist. She was fantastic! Sweet, non-pretentious and so so talented!! In the past other colorists insisted to make my hair lighter, even though I always felt it was too light. She dared to listen to my wish and I ended up with a gorgeus brown color with so much dimension, I just love it! It surely did wonders for my eyes and skin! Gabriel cut it for me, he is so good! He made me feel soo amazing! My hair looked so beautiful, so shiny and so rich when I left. I would highly recommend it to anyone, surely me and my friends will visit again!! What a great way to begin a new year!

Pros: relaxed surroundings, incredibly friendly and helpful, talent and proficiency

Cons: if there are any, I know none of them

Ratings_icons Fabulous cut and style - see Ali

crogirl

I have lived in Manhattan for the past 5 years, and as a professional in the arts am always concerned about my appearance, especially my hair. I tried various upscale stylists on the recommendation of friends, and while the results were never disastrous, they were also not fabulous - that is, until Ali at the Roy Teeluck Salon got his hands on me. Ali checked the shape of my head, my hair type, and then took the time to talk to me about what my needs are with my hair in order to come up with a style that complimented my features and color perfectly. It has been a month, and my short haircut has held its shape despite the fact that my hair grows pretty fast. Other than Ali's amazing cut, the Salon itself is friendly and relaxed, and the espresso is great. This is the first review I have ever bothered to write on this site, so please believe the hype, and go see Ali...

Pros: extremely skilled stylists, great location, relaxed upscale atmosphere, no pressure

Cons: none

Ratings_icons Great customer service and great results

Sandra just moved to Roy Teeluck a few months ago and I followed her there from her last salon. She is wonderful. She is an expert on getting my naturally medium brown hair to a very pretty, very natural copper red. I get asked if I'm a natural redhead all the time! She also is wonderful at really taking the time to talk to you beforehand about how you want your hair to look--she listens to you and looks at any photos you bring in...which is especially good for me--red is a hard color to get right!
Last time I went, Lexi gave me a wonderful blow-dry afterwards. She took her time and made it look incredibly glamorous--I was very happy. When I told her that I would love for her to do my hair for an important event I had the next day, she even offered to come into the salon early the next morning (on her time off) in order to accommodate me before my event that afternoon.
Roy Teeluck is a great salon. Wonderful customer service and great results!!

Ratings_icons Great experience with Sandra & Tim!!

dredavis

I loved the Roy Teeluck salon and plan on returning every time I need my hair redone. When I first go to an expensive salon, I don't always expect such a friendly vibe as I experienced at Roy Teelucks. From booking the appointment, meeting the receptionist, and speaking with the stylists and assistants, EVERYONE is friendly and nice. I did not wait at all, which is hard to come by in a busy establishment. Maybe I was lucky but I noticed the stylists were well aware of being on time with their other clients as well. Sandra did my color and it turned out beautiful! She was very, very sweet, making sure I was comfortable and warm:) She asked me exactly what I wanted and when I told her I didn't exactly know she gave me plenty of options of what she could do for me. I was very impressed with how much she repaired my color. Because the color took longer than expected, they rearranged my cut to be done by Tim and I was grateful for how it worked out because he did a great job! He is truly a talented and thoughtful artist. I was smiling before he even finished. Overall the atmosphere, attitude and talent is exactly what makes me want to return to the Roy Teeluck salon. There's a reason why there's over 300 positive reviews compared to the 14 negative reviews on the site. And I highly recommend Sandra and Tim!!! They really care about the client and have such talent!

Pros: Great atmosphere, Friendly staff, Talented stylists

Cons: umm?? Zip

Ratings_icons at last the haidresser i was looking for !!!

anafab

after a few try in differents high- end salons , never getting the cut that i was hoping for ( something that would suit me ....) . i booked and appointment with Antoine on a friend recomandation , Antoine took the time to find out my ideas for my hair and suggested layers around my face but not in the back to keep my hair looking neat .,
(my hair is fine and hairdressers always tend to over layer wich is so difficult to manage at home ) So after a great shampoo i was excited to get a new cut . i was not disappointed , after seeing that the cut was exactly what we talked about i received a great blowout and felt soooo good .
i will be back for sure !

Pros: great shampoo , antoine is so professional

Ratings_icons Roy Teeluck butchered my hair!

SMPPP

Roy Teeluck destroyed my gorgeous long hair by chopping ugly, dated short layers into it after I asked for no short layers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are also manipulating this board by copying and re-posting old reviews when a bad review comes up.

Roy Teeluck gives women mullets and calls it a haircut.

Roy Teeluck doesn't listen is FAR FROM worth the $350 he charges for haircut.

Ratings_icons Sandra Rocks!!!!

PMCL

I was looking for a new salon, read all the positive reviews and decided to go for it. I went in with bad yellow highlights and came out looking like a natural blonde. Sandra was AMAZING!!!!!!! I would highly recommend her. She spent time speaking with me and getting to know what I really wanted before performing her magic. Then I sat in Gabriel's chair and the cut was a perfect ending to a perfect experience.

I am a recently divorced woman who really needed a beauty boost after a grueling divorce that left me with a low self esteem so i decided to take charge. I had an office Christmas party to attend and there was going to be a guy there that i had a crush on so i wanted to be sure to look my best. Besides my fabulous dress, matching shoes, etc i had to tend to my hair that looked like the way i was feeling. After a little research on the net i found the salon that could give me the boost i needed and put the vixen back in my MO, Roy Teeluck Salon was my choice, and i decided that i was going to see the man himself! OMG, i can't tell you how amazing i look and feel.Sexy must be this mans middle name! The whole experience in this buzzing friendly salon was just what i needed, it even got me noticed by my crush at the party,I was HOT. Thank you Roy and your excellent team for bringing me back. I had no idea how much i was missing the taste of life.

Pros: Lots of talent

Cons: None

Ratings_icons Worst haircut

illi008

After having researched online and read all the reviews I finally decided to go to the Roy Teeluck Salon. What a huge disappointment. The stylist just didn't seem to understand what haircut I was going after. We decided on a "modern, trendy, cute haircut". BUT, I don't know what happened since I literally had to tell the stylist that I didn't like the cut several times. So, in the end after my 130 dollars haircut I ended up with an awful haircut that looks more like an old lady's haircut rather than the trendy, modern haircut fit for a girl in her 20s.

I would definitely not recommend the salon, and I seriously regret not getting up and leaving in the first place. When the stylist saw the horrified look in my face and asked if I liked the haircut (duh) and I then replied that it wasn't at all what I was picturing - the stylist then had the nerve to tell me that "I wasn't the only one who had to be satisfied with the haircut" . I can't believe it.

Please do yourself a favor and find another hair salon!

Pros: None really

Cons: Awful haircut, too expensive

A friend of mine found stylist ALI at Roy Teeluck. I loved his cut how it complemented her face, how perfectly cut&styled it was. I went for a haircut right after and I'm very happy I did. Ali is a very talented, friendly, professional hair stylist. He took his time to understand what I wanted , made great suggestions given that I did not want to spend muchtime styling it at home, I have thick, dry hair that's not easy to tame. He gave me the perfect layered hair cut that fit all my needs. He patiently answered all my questions about hair care, styling , also showed step by step how I can easily style my hair at home without spending much time..Great cuts, Great service!!

Ratings_icons Gret color for blondes!

gscallion

If you want to regain the natural blonde highlights of your youth, request Sandra to color your hair. I found Sandra three years ago after suffering through the bleached hair process used in Florida salons. She corrected my color and added lo-lights and highlights. She then added toner as a glaze. For the first time in years, my blonde hair looked naturally highlighted! When she moved to Roy Teeluck a few weeks ago, I was concerned about making the move with her. After today's appointment, I am once again reminded of why I will go out of my way from Lower Manhattan to have Sandra color my hair. She understands how blonde hair needs to have depth and dimension. I walked in with damaged hair and I walked out with glorious blonde highlights and silky smooth hair! The goody bag of shampoo, conditioner, and styling spray was an unexpected treat! The staff was very nice, especially Kaitlyn, who shampooed and styled my hair. If you want blonde hair that looks soft and natural, let Sandra work her magic!

Ratings_icons THANK YOU ROY TEELUCK, THANK YOU SANDRA, THANK YOU MYSTERIOUS GLAZE!! GOLDEN GODDESS!

krissienyc

Ladies!! I've been a blonde for such a long time that I don't really remember the natural shade of my color. Suffice to say I am really a brunette. If you have darker hair, you know how hard it is sometimes to achieve a beautiful blonde. Brass is our enemy! I decided to try Roy Teeluck. Sandra listened to what my concerns were and asked a lot of questions about how I like to wear my hair. Started doing my highlights and I thought we were done. BUT NO!! After they washed out my highlights, Sandra applied a "glaze" to my hair that kinda looked very red and freaked me out, despite of Sandra's warning that what I see is not what I get.
MY GOD, glorious glaze!! I don't think my hair color looked better EVER!! After that, one of the assistants--the girl with red hair--styled my hair (and BTW, styled my hair SO WELL). MY hair was a cascade of beautiful, buttery, soft, glossy locks that looked as if they belonged!! They were shiny, wonderfully placed highlights and simply a gorgeous, silky blond with no trace of brassiness and amazing range of dimensions. I felt like a golden goddess!! Best part? My husband kept staring at me all night and kept saying how flattering my hair looked! THANK YOU, THANK YOU SANDRA!!

Pros: incredible service, staff, champagne, goodies bags, oozing talent!!

Cons: little busy, book in advance

Gabriel is great. He gave me a wonderful haircut and was extremely friendly. Many hair stylists get scissor happy, however, Gabriel cut my hair just as I had requested.
