In Short
From its second-story perch, this modern salon situates its styling chairs to overlook the chic 57th Street shops below--and lends that same high-fashion inspiration to their hair styling. Neither snobby nor overly-trendy, Teeluck's simple but marble-embellished surroundings and top-level staff create classic hair, brows and nails. The colorists are trained in the French technique of baliage, which eschews foils for a more natural looking result, and allows for fewer touch-ups.

Key Points

  • Full-Service NYC Salon
  • Balayage Color Highlights, Cut
  • New Late Night Evening Hours!

The Inside Scoop

  1. Hair Removal - In-house brow guru Duffy will put plucking junkies on a "Brow Beautification Program" where any and all tweezer-use is strictly prohibited until she gets you to the shape you were born to wear.
  2. Manicures/Pedicures - Have your nails painted while you cut or color and emerge fully gorgeous in half the time.
  3. What to Drink - Have them brew you a frothy cappuccino, made with quadruple-filtered water, to sip on while you get coiffed.

Ratings_icons Great hair cut!!!!

Gabriel is great. He gave me a wonderful haircut and was extremely friendly. Many hair stylists get scissor happy, however, Gabriel cut my hair just as I had requested.

Ratings_icons I HAVE TO JUMP IN......

missyrob

I just read the review about the unfortunately highlighting experience someone had here... Michele has been coloring my hair for about three years, which is a record for me. Michele treats my hair like a baby... i have dry hair and i always want blonder but Michele is the pro and she knows best. She really, really does treat my hair like a her baby, she is very gentle and careful that we do not do "too much". I get my haircut at another upscale salon and they rave about my color (the ultimate compliment i think) as well as just about everyone i know and sometimes even strangers.
And as far as her assistant doing most of it... one word , HUH??? That sounds odd... that has NEVER happened to me.
If your scalp was burnt something else is going on and it should be checked before you have it colored again...
I would reco (and have) Michele to anyone

Pros: Michele

Ratings_icons Thank you Abby and Ali

Hobokengirl

I never write reviews but because I made my appointment based on the reviews of others, I had to detail my experience at Roy Teeluck. I had balayage highlights done with Abby who was wonderful. She started off our consultation by complimenting my hair repeatedly even though it had been 8 months since my last highlight at Salon AKS (where I was a client of over 10 years) and left very unhappy. She asked about my last highlight and why I didn't like it so she could get to know me better and then quickly set to work. She was extremely down to earth and meticulous with the color application, getting to the root all over my head and really making sure she placed the highlights where they needed to be. She worked alone, unlike most nyc salons where the assistant does more work than the actual colorist. She also took out the highlights section by section so the overall color was even. She even waited to see my color after the cut was finished although she had somewhere else to be. Next I had a cut with Ali Ozel. He also put me at ease very quickly with his kind manner (he actually stayed late for my appointment even though this was my first visit). He didn't suggest a crazy change, made sure I was completely comfortable with whatever he was doing and was skilled at cutting very little hair to get a great shape. Beware, he does use a type of razor scissor that could scare you at first, but its to thin out certain sections to give body and he knows what he's doing. I am happy to say my hair has found a new home at Roy Teeluck. Jovan

Ratings_icons best color job for black hair

phullkp

don't get bugged out about the high profile of this salon. you deserve the best.

i am a conservative asian woman and ex-investment banker. i was really nervous about changing my color to any shade other than black. let me introduce you to my colorist--sandra v. she's amazing. if you have beautiful glowing black hair au naturelle, go see her. i thought i had great hair until she had her way with me. now, i have an amazing color job. if my hair could be described in another way, i would say warm and less severe, but not crazy. Sandra gave my hair a real "je ne sais crois" or in plain english--a glow. good bye boring black and hello silky smooth:)

to all the asian women out there, when in doubt, just do it, but pls make your appt with sandra:) trust me, i am a fan and loyal client. wish i could post a before and after pic.....

thanks sandra! you're the best.

Ratings_icons Jewel named Ali

I have been to many salons in the city (fekkai, sahag...just to name a few), but was blown away (no pun intended) by Ali at Roy Teeluck. This is by far the best hair cut and style that I have ever had. He is extremely talented and has a magic touch when it comes to hair. Very meticulous, patient and listens to what I want out of my hair. I have to give him very little instructions and just give him an idea of what I want and he has not failed to give me the best haircut. I never write reviews, but felt compelled to write him one because I think he is so amazing and talented. He truly is a magician when it comes to hair. Huge fan and would recommend him to anyone for every occasion.

Pros: Ali

Everything was perfect. Beautiful salon. Everyone who works there was so wonderfully pleasant. Get your hair done by Ali Ozel, he was FABULOUS and so nice. I love love loved how he did my hair and I will definitely be going back to him. Best cut and dry I've had in years, it made my day. Ali is your man! Worth every cent.

Ratings_icons Picture Perfect Haircut

ykknyc

First review I've ever written online, and had to because this salon has an incredibly talented hairstylist on board, Ali Ozel. He listens well to what magic you want done to your hair, gives you the lowdown on what can be accomplished, and might suggest a tweaking of your initial concept according to your facial shape, lifestyle. Then he delivers a truly picture-perfect haircut, beautifully precise in his cutting, completed with a masterful blowdry. Ali takes his time to make sure your hair looks like something off a magazine page (wish he could do the same for the rest of me), and his manner is sweet, friendly & soothing. The salon is comfortable and not snooty for being off Madison Ave, and the staff that assisted me were all quick and friendly. I went to him after seeing the amazing haircut he had given to my friend.

Pros: Ali, friendly staff, capuccinos

Ratings_icons Antoine is Amazing!!!

plum9

I AM IN LOVE!!! I have curly, thick hair and so often hairdressers just assume that it will "behave" like straight hair--sooooo, they cut it wet, fail to layer and I walk out with an uneven triangle--ugh! So not the case at Roy Teeluck and with Antoine. He listened intently and was constantly checking and rechecking while cutting, he paid attention to the work in front of him and did very little socializing with other stylists or clients around him. The vibe at the salon is great and people were friendly and professional, not a hint of snobbery. I already made my second appointment!

Ratings_icons gorgeous hair---relaxing, cozy salon experience!

chrissylyn

This is my first online review of anything, but I am SO inspired and in love with my new haircut that I had to share the experience. My haircut was done by Ali. He is PERFECTION and so is my new hair. I have worked many years as a freelance catalog and runway model so I know how much a great haircut can make a difference in my life and my income! Most importantly I look and feel beautiful with very little effort..not always the case! Ali is a true artist and perfectionist. He listened to what I wanted and was able to deliver far beyond my expectations. Everyone I encountered was so lovely and helpful from Johans, who shampooed me into a state of bliss, to the friendly front desk concierges...all exceptional. I would highly recommend the Roy Teeluck salon to anyone who is choosey about who touches their hair. You are amazing Ali!

Pros: talented staff, relaxing atmosphere, exceptional results, I look amazing

Ratings_icons some people are really crazy

nevrfacedefeat

I can say that I have been Michelles client for years and i read what was written about her and I have to strongly disagree. When Michelle does my highlights she uses a technique called Balayage which is where she paints it individually at my root and thicker on the ends. It grows out really natural and I can wait months before I have to go back. It would be IMPOSSIBLE for someones scalp to burn from her highlights because they dont directly touch my scalp. If u want natural looking highlights Michelle Fury is your girl! Balayage is the most natural looking highlights you can get and she is the BEST at this technique. If you have a problem with Michelle Im pretty sure you have had problems everywhere else you went. Otherwise why would you leave whoever was doing your hair before if it was so beautiful! I love Michelle and the way she does my highlights. Anyone that doesnt think she is amazing and talented is CRAZY.

Pros: Color, Cuts,and Cappachinos

Ratings_icons highlights destroyed my hair

barre

I love my hair and decided to get highlights. The colorist told be how beautiful my hair was little did i know she was going to change that within a couple of hours. I had an appointment with a senior colorist her assistant came up to us and the colorist said you are the only one that can't do highlights, but this is great hair to learn on. I said I did not want streaks, but i ended up with unnatural ugly streaks. while the color was processing the colorist disappeared and the assistant was doing more of the work. As i was running my hands through my hair it felt much thinner, my scalp started itching and slightly burning. I called and said I did not like the color they said to come in and they would fix it. I told the colorist I had breakage she said i did not. I told her my head burned she said no it tingles. So she put more color on my hair to tone it down. I still thought it looked streaky. Then she put more dye on the front and top of my hair and it looked red. I did not want red I wanted blonde. My hair looked horrible and then I spent days with ice on my scalp and running cold water through my scalp. This is the fifth day that my scalp burns. I was refunded, but My hair looked and felt so much healthier before I encountered the hair colorists. The girl who cut my hair Dora did a good job. The colorist over processed my hair. I have never been through so much pain with my hair in my entire life. My hair was my favorite thing People would say you have such beautiful hair before I went to the salon. now people tell me it looks bad. I never imagined the destruction a hair colorist could do I trusted that she would make my hair look and feel awesome. I'm glad i have thick hair, if I did not I would have been even more devastated. Now I have to cope with having thinner hair a burning scalp, and hair that looks so dried out. Michelle was the name of the colorist just to help anyone from avoiding my devastating experience.

Pros: good hair cuts

Cons: bad coloring and painful

Ratings_icons Everything an NYC salon should be...

MaryOughtSix

It has been just over two weeks since my appointment and the happiness and satisfaction I felt with the services have not wavered in the least! I started my Roy Teeluck experience with phenomenal colorist, Abby Haliti and a fresh frothy cappuccino from a sweet assistant. Originally there for a color gloss, Abby listened to what I was looking for and we decided to include face framing highlights using the French method, balayage. The results were rich and rootless. Next, Ali Ozel took his magic scissors to my newly glossed coiffure. My hair has been growing out for two years with intermittent trims and is longer now than ever before; I liked the way the length was looking, but it needed shape and style. It was fantastic to watch Ali's swift, confident precision in snipping the ends, exacting the angles, and creating layers that still looked long, but framed my face in a way that I'll be back for come next trim - and the next, etc. Not to mention that Ali's smile and manner are completely endearing. Next, Duffy took on my eyebrows. I'd read about Duffy prior to my appointment and had let my brows go wild for her. Good move on my part, as Duffy is a true brow specialist. The face is her garden and she loves to tend it. I recommend Duffy for anyone with "project brows." Finally Edith Matsis did my manicure. This manicure was a bonus provided by the salon for my first-time client status and variety of other services. Edith was very knowledgeable about nails, nail beds, skin, cuticles, and types of polish. All in all, I was treated to a day of beauty experts and I would recommend each individual and the salon itself highly. After bouncing from NYC salon to salon looking for my favorite fit, it is finally found and all at one stop. Hallelujah.

Pros: Expert staff

Cons: Very busy on a Saturday, not for meditation while you set, but still a fun bustle about it...

Ratings_icons Fabulous Hair!

NataliaLescu

It took me four years to find a colorist who actually knew what he/she was doing. I eventually found Sandra at the Roy Teeluck Salon. She proved to me that you don't need to be a star to deserve royal treatment and fabulous hair. I think every woman deserves to be spoiled once in a while, and Roy Teeluck's salon is a great choice. And for divine hair color look for Sandra!

So Roy Teeluck Salon is where I will get my hair done from now on. It was a great experience and an awesome first time. I really wanted to cut my hair really short and I was so sick of my long hair that I just decided to go anywhere. I found Roy Teeluck online and it had got really good reviews, it was open till late, it was very affordable. I couldn't go wrong. I got my hair done by GABRIEL.. He was great, friendly, funny, and knew exactly what I wanted. My haircut came out awesome. He completely boosted up my selfisteam and I felt really good about myself. All I get now are great compliments about my "new do". Thanks GABRIEL!!!

I thought I would treat myself to a first-class salon experience on a recent trip to NYC. I could not have been more pleased. I was ready for such a high-caliber of salon to be pretentious but it was quite the opposite! The entire staff was extremely friendly and made me feel like I had been a life-long customer. I felt immediately at ease and enjoyed every minute of my pampering!! Antoine is an amazing stylist and I felt his experience and talent left me feeling and looking like a queen! Although I live in Ohio, I will make the trip to and spend the well worth $$ to have this experience again and again.

Ratings_icons Andre-Davis--Best hair extensions/cut!!

Zeyna

My hair was completely burned out and ruined on a shoot and I was desperate to fix it. I went to a salon I won't name for a cut and was given a bob to correct it. The bob was a disaster. Someone at my agency recommended Andre Davis, who has worked in fashion and film for years. He is a master! He corrected the cut, but we agreed that it was not a great look for me. I was sweating because in a few days I was going up for a beauty job for a major campaign. He suggested hair extensions. He custom ordered hair and after a day, and a few hours of work, I walked out of the salon with a full head of shoulder length hair, cut to perfection! It looked great!!!! I have always laughed at hair weaves, but I can see that I was arrogant, because these extensions saved my life and banked me some money! They don't show any lumps or bumps or that weird separation you see on too many heads. Andre is a MASTER. The salon is really nice--very comfortable and low key with great drinks and service. There was a major celebrity there at the same time and I liked how cool everyone was. It's definitely a place to get star treatment without any pretense!

Antoine is really great. He has a pre shampoo chat with you. He REALLY listens, and puts a lot of things into consideration.... what will look good on you, how you wear it daily. He did a fantastic job. Everybody was sweet: Antoine, his assistant, the receptionist checking in. One note, the lady who checked me out, wasn't friendly. Maybe she had a bad day, and she really stood out because everybody else was so nice.

Ratings_icons I LOVE my haircut!

karen999

I was in search for a hair salon once I got into NYC. I found this site which had tons of positive reviews for Roy Teeluck Salon so I called to schedule an appointment. It was my first time there and I have to say everyone were very nice and polite. Antoine was very professional and spent some time talking about my hair and what I would like. He showed me some different hair styles that would like nice on me. I was up to anything. I was tired of my long hair and I had to get a new look. I had over 15 inches of hair to donate to Locks of Love. I LOVE my haircut!!! It's quite easy to do if I wanted to jazz it up or just wash and go. I will have to make time to get my haircut with Antoine instead of the local DC salons. Lastly, when I checked out, the bill was half the price due to the Locks of Love and I was not expecting this. What a nice surprise! Thanks Antoine, Roy, and everyone else at the Salon!

I just went to the Roy Teeluck salon and can't rave enough about the place. I had a haircut with Gabrielle, who not only was super professional, but the cut was the best I've had in years. He's also amazing at blow-drying and my style lasted for a few days! The other staff members were amazing also, from the wash and head massage, to the person serving my champagne, I could not have been treated better. Excellent service, top-notch treatments and cuts, and a cool staff to boot, definitely 5 stars!!!!

Ratings_icons BEST HAIRCUT OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cordirey

For my birthday my boyfriend surprised me with a new haircut at Roy Teeluck salon with his friend and the man who's been cutting his hair for years, Tim! It was my first time to the salon and I have to say everyone there could not have been nicer. Tim was so wonderful. It was obvious that this is a man who is passionate about hair. He was very good about asking about what my hair had been through and what I was looking. I find it rare when you have a hairdresser really listen to you and then deliver exactly what you want. Well Tim gave me what I wanted and so much more!!!! I LOVE my haircut. Its young and modern and just works with the hair I have. I also have to say the ladies doing my nails and eyebrowns were equally sweet and did their job to perfection. I would recomend this place to anyone who is looking for a salon where you know you can relax because you're in good hands.

Ratings_icons Simply the Best- Ali is Sheer Genius!

denisemut

Ali is the best! I've gotten an amazing haircut today with Ali. I've been to other salons in NYC and Brooklyn and needless to say, I have walked out in total dissapointment. I had my faith in Ali as he miraculously cut and shaped my hair into a very modern yet sophisticated hair style. He is an absolute perfectionist. He listens to you and gives you honest feedback and goes to work to create a masterpiece that suits you. I never knew what type of hairstyle looked good on me but Ali gave me pointers on the type of style that would work best for my face and gave me tips on how to blow-dry hair so you can get that salon look every time.
The salon is great. Everytone is extremely nice and catering to your needs.

I am definitely coming back as I have finally found a sheer genius at work! Thank you Ali!

Ratings_icons Antoine is GRRRREAT!!

Ana10465

I cut my hair short nearly 5 years ago thru a hair modeling class which was fantastic, but b/c it was a class I never saw that particular stylists again and there began my quest for the same style cut...It's been 5 years! A couple cuts came close but not close enough to make me go "Wow - I LOVE this cut!" Not until last night when I had the pleasure of walking into the NOT pretentious at all Roy Teeluck Salon and consulted with Antoine who patiently listened to what I wanted and the painful trials and tribulations I'd gone thru trying to get it. He told me how he would start cutting and how he would approach the style I wanted and I felt at ease b/c he knew exactly what I was talking about! My fine hair is tough, I know and cutting with a razor requires real skill - I've learned, but Antoine was a complete professional with both and I have the syle I've been longingly searching for the last few years. Everyone I encountered at the salon was easy going and friendly from the receptionist to Lexi who washed my hair. I expected that underlying hint of snobbishness you get from some places but it just wasn't there. I LOVE this place and I'm definitely going back!

Pros: Quadruple Thumbs UP!!

Ratings_icons Fabulous Haircut by the Amazing Antoine!

CFW05

I moved to Manhattan last spring and went to get my hair cut with Antoine at the Roy Teeluck Salon... and have been thrilled to become a loyal return client. My first visit Antoine devoted his full attention to creating a haircut that suited not only my face and hair texture, but also my lifestyle. It was the first time I felt that a hairdresser really listened to me. The result is a very stylish short cut that feels very me but also makes me feel at ease in a such a style-conscious city. Each appointment I have had since with Antoine has been a great experience, and he is always wonderfully consistent and gives my 'do a special tweak and a polish. I feel very confidant that Antoine will magic up another fabulous look for me when I feel like it -- but for now, I am thrilled with my chic hairstyle, and can't imagine changing it. Antoine is hugely talented as a hairdresser and as a communicator. Add into the mix that he is a truly grounded individual and just a really nice guy -- now that's a receipe for a happy client!

Pros: ANTOINE & welcoming salon atmosphere

Cons: none

I had been going to the same hairdresser in the Hartford area for a number of years, but I decided to "splurge" on a haircut. What a delight! The salon was smaller than I had expected, but the haircut and style were fantastic. I didn't realize how bad my haircuts were until Enzo showed me the uneven layers. Even my friends and family noticed the difference! So - I am a devotee and have a follow-up appointment!

Ratings_icons fantastic hair extensions and cut by andre!

politiclothesgal

earlier this month i decided to take the plunge and get hair extensions. i've had a short bob for years, but was sick of seeing the same cut everywhere --- ended up growing it out to a mid-length bob and went to roy teeluck to get hair extensions. i'm so glad that i did! first, andre spend a good amount of time with me during the free consultation to figure out exactly what i wanted out of my hair extensions. i went back a few days later after he bought the real-hair extensions and he put them in. the process was pretty long (about 2 1/2 hours), but andre was a pleasure to chat with throughout the entire experience. he did a top-notch job putting them in. before getting the process done myself i'd heard how painful it can be. maybe i have a tough scalp, but i didn't think it was that bad. my scalp did hurt for 2 - 3 days after i got the extensions, but that's not due to the stylist --- it just takes a bit for your head to get used to them. andre cut the extensions before i left, but invited me to come back in a few days once i got used to the extensions for a complementary follow-up appointment. i'm so glad i did! after having the extensions for a few days, i had more direction as to what i wanted them to look like. andre cut and styled my head accordingly and made me into a bombshell! : ) i had a friend's wedding and class reunion that weekend and heard nothing but rave reviews for days. i LOVE my extensions and plan on keeping them in for awhile --- already looking forward to going into the salon next month to get them tightened (again, complementary). the extensions are expensive, but on par with any other salon that offers quality real-hair extensions. i think they were worth every penny. the salon was great, everyone was terribly nice, and andre is such a blessing! highly recommended.

Pros: friendly staff, high quality stylists, great service

millercy

I'll admit it. I like getting a nice haricut, but I tend to be a little conservative (due to job). I wanted to update my bob without looking silly (am over 40). Andre did a fantastic job. The sevice was very friendly, but not too gossipy. I literally went out that night and everyone gasped at how fabulous my hair looked. A stranger on the street even asked me where I got it done. Bravo Andre!!

Ratings_icons JUST DO IT

kittymcfizz

I went to Roy Teeluck for balayage highlights (hair painting technique that is foil-free) and a cut. When I came in, I was immediately greeted, shown to my chair and given a menu of free beverages (I went with iced coffee and water with lemon). The colorist (Abby) and her assistant greeted me and gave me a quick consultation followed by my quick cut consultation with my stylist (Dora). I told them what I wanted and within minutes Abby was working away on my highlights. The interesting thing about the balayage technique at Roy Teeluck is that they do it in sections to make it look more naturally sun-kissed. My blond highlights are AMAZING and I couldn't be happier. Five stars for Abby! I also got a free manicure because I was a first time customer, which was simple but good.

I then went over to Dora, who didn't talk much but did her thing. I trimmed up my bob but she suggested a slightly angled cut to add a slight edge and some texture and trimmed my bangs up in a different style. Great job. I walked out of that place not only feeling and looking great, but thinking that I had never in my life had such great customer service at a salon. Just go...you won't regret it!

Pros: Wide variety of services with experienced professionals

Cons: They're in New York and I live in San Francisco

Ratings_icons Truly great

sheep2duck

This place really does live up to all of these glowing reviews. I don't normally like to spend that much on my hair. I was skeptical that a "quality salon" would seem worth it to me and thrifty mentality. But, this place is great ... friendly, accommodating, time efficient -- great customer service, and not pretentious. Abby made my highlights look so natural, and listened to all of my concerns. I never thought a certain cut would make that much of a difference with my curly, long, layered hair ... but it has never looked better. Dora was quick, confident , and truly did wonders. I am a complete convert. Not only will I return, but I have already recommended them to all of my friends.

I went there for the first time with a head of yellowish blonde hair. Russ Hovermale did my color and it came out way beyond anything I could have expected. The color was a perfect, natural looking blonde and after 2 and a half months it still looked just as natural. I have gotten my hair done since at a new place closer to home and I was completely dissatisfied. I would spend any price for the services at Roy Teeluck Salon.

Pros: Everything

Cons: A little hard to find.

I went to Roy Teeluck Salon yesterday after reading the great reviews on CitySearch. I was frustrated with going to stylist after stylist in Manhattan who did not really understand how to cut naturally wavy hair, and so it was time to try a new place and stylist (my 6th!). And I am so glad I did. Nothing about the salon or people is pretentious--everything is pleasant and welcoming, with a very relaxing vibe. And ANTOINE is the greatest! He listened to what I wanted, made suggestions for making it even better, and gave me a great cut. And, he's a genuinely nice guy. As far as icing on the cake, when I got the bill, I had to ask the receptionist to repeat it because--given the terrific treatment I received at such an upscale salon--I was very pleasantly surprised.

mmc275

Just by saying a couple things about how I like to wear my hair, Ali gave me the perfect cut that I had actually been trying to explain to my other hairdresser for about 2 years. I hadn't had my hair highlighted since the beginning of may but the cut Ali gave me made my highlights pop so well that even Roy came over and asked me if I had just had my hair colored because it looked great. One of the assistants gave me the best blowout I have ever had that lasted so well that I didn't have to do much to go to a wedding the next day after I had slept on my hair and put it up etc. It just fell perfectly. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Ny is a little bit of a trip for me but I will definitely be back to Ali!

Ratings_icons Great Experience!!!

Having been to Fekkai, Sally Herberger, John Barrett, etc - I was looking for a change. Did some research online and came across Roy Teeluck Salon. I was really impressed with the reviews, and even though I am always a bit skeptical, something told me to go for it. SO GLAD I DID!! Great experience throughout! Phone reservation was easy and they were polite - not on hold, not treating me like they doing me a big favor, etc. Got there and my stylist was Tim. He was right on time - a Saturday afternoon rarity - and such a super guy. He sat me down and talked to me about my hair - what I wanted, what i DIDNT want, how much time I spend on it, etc. I think the first time any stylist has actually taken the time to do that. It really helped because I knew we were both on the same page and I was SO HAPPY with my cut! He took time - no rush, he blowed dried it himself, and he was very genuine and really talented! I would not hesitate to recommend the salon - I even saw Roy there - and the staff is really polite and very customer oriented. LOVE IT! Tim is terrific!!

Pros: small salon, but cozy and friendly

Ratings_icons great salon for colour & cut

I moved back to NYC and needed to find a salon for my hair...for colour & cut. I found Roy Teeluck Salon on Citysearch and was impressed by all of the favourable reviews, so I went. I am very happy to say that all of the reviews were accurate! Michelle did my highlights and did a fabulous job, as well as she was friendly and personable. Most importantly she listened to me and corrected the highlights mishap I had experienced 2 months before at different NYC salon. Next, I was treated to a great haircut by Ali. He talked with me regarding my hair, the shape of my face and also listened to me while providing some good suggestions. He gave me a great haircut and was very friendly. I am definitely going back! And lastly, everyone in the salon was lovely, including Roy. He is charming and friendly and those traits are evident in his team of stylists and colourists. Thank you for a great experience and one I will welcome again!!

I was so impressed with the staff at Roy Teeluck Salon!!! I came in for color and ended up with so much more. I must say that Michelle is an amazing colorist and her assistant colorist Alex is beyond wonderful. And I received the best haircut of my life from Ali. Ali is a master of hair!

Please take it from me as my mother owned a salon for 16 years - I am super picky!!!

It had been over 5 months since I had gotten my naturally brown hair highlighted. Needless to say, I was in despearte need. It was my first time going to Roy Teeluck Salon and Michelle automatically knew exactly what would work well for me. My highlights turned out amazing and I love them. I honestly can not say I have never walked out of a salon so happy. Aside from the great color by Michelle and amazing blowout by Ali the rest of the staff was so nice and accomodating. I highly reccomend this salon and will be back there in a few weeks for a cut!

Ratings_icons BEST LOCKS OF LOVE HAIRCUT!

karadove

Tim took such good care of me - it was my first time donating hair to locks of love (great organization) as well as it being my first time to EVER have short hair in 31 years of being alive! needless to say, i was extremely nervous - could i pull off a short do? Tim made me feel so comfortable and beautiful by the time i left there - i was so excited to show anyone and everyone what he had made me look like - and the cut is so manageable - i thought for sure it would be a nightmare doing my wavy hair on my own - but Tim made sure that the incredible style he gave me would work for me. cheers to the Roy Teeluck Salon - i highly recommend it!

Ratings_icons Antoine is great

I made an appointment with Antoine at the Roy Teeluck Salon based on the great reviews on this site both for Antoine and the salon and it was definitely a good choice. I had my appointment just this past weekend. The salon is elegant but not pretentious, the receptionist was friendly and efficient. I met with Antoine just after checking in and we discussed what I wanted and he gave me his recommendations. Antoine definitely listened and took his time giving me a great hair cut. My hair now looks better than it has in a long time. In addition to being a great stylist he is also very personable. I will definitely return in a few months.

Ratings_icons Who Ya Gonna Call? Red Busters!

Thank you Michelle and Alex! I went to the Roy Teeluck Salon to have my hair colored for my wedding. My highlights were growing out and I needed my ends touched up. I left with much darker hair than I expected- not what I requested. When I washed it for the first time, I noticed strong violet undertones!! I quickly called back and came in that afternoon. Michelle and Alex (who did not initially work on my color, but who fixed it) nurtured my tresses and soul all afternoon trying to get the color just right for the big day. They were the CSI of hair color, and by the time that I left my hair looked much better! It's still a little more red than I would like, but it's much better than purple! I was pleased that the salon stood behind their stylists and made the correction free of charge. Michelle even sent me home with a conditioner to keep the color in tact (complementary). I would definitely consider going back (especially to Michelle & Alex), but am still traumatized by the color mix up and worried about what it will be like as it grows out. eeekk!! Those two ladies made a very unpleasant experience much more bearable!
Thank you!

Ratings_icons FABULOUS!

Amanda8222

Like many women, I have been seeing the same stylist for many years. I recently started a job in the city and needed a new styling salon to call home due to long hours and a commute. After looking through numerous websites of salons in midtown, I decided to call Roy Teeluck's. I read reviews and remembered the name from Bravo's tv show, Shear Genius. I thought I would call on the off chance that they had an appointment available or a cancellation for that afternoon. The receptionist was kind and helpful. He answered my questions, gave me some appointment options and welcomed me to the salon. When I arrived, the salon was inviting and bright. I was given a short tour of the salon and ask to sit for a few minutes. I was offered a beverage of my choice or something else that would make my visit more enjoyable. I declined, but most of the people in the salon were sipping on a drink or espresso. Soon, I was met by Tim who was going to style my hair. We discussed our options and we were in agreement. He listened to what I said and made thoughtful suggestions. I was sent to get my hair washed and I sat down in Tim's chair. He was professional, friendly and easy to talk to. By the time I realized it, my hair was finished and it looked FABULOUS! We were both very happy with the style. Tim sent me home with a complimentary bottle of volumizer and I was on my way. My hair was refreshed and I felt great. I would highly recommend this salon especially Tim. I cannot wait to go back for a trim. Hope this helps with your salon search. Happy Hunting!

Ratings_icons Antonie is fantastic :)

MandyL22

After having my haircut by the same woman for the majority of my life, I decided that I needed a change (not to mention I moved out of state). Based on the reviews from CitySearch, I booked an appointment with Antonie and it was the best choice I've made in a while.

The salon is small, and elegant without being too pretentious. Upon arriving I was offered a complementary beverage (I went with a delicious cappuccino) and Antonie took me over to his chair to discuss what I wanted. He really listened to what I had to say, and then gave me a few recommendations of what he thought based on my criteria (shoulder length, 'wash and go', will grow out nicely). After deciding what I wanted, he sent me to be washed.. the mini-head massage is a nice touch when they wash your hair.

Antonie really took his time cutting my hair, and was very meticulous about making sure it was even, etc. When he was done cutting, he showed me a few tricks with the blowdryer that I could use if I wanted a little fancier than 'wash and go'.

In the end, the cut was fantastic, and I couldn't be happier. I don't usually walk out of salons in a good mood, but this time I was nearly bouncing. Antoie also sent me off with two free products (yes, actually free). I will most definitely be coming back.

Also, just to clear up some confusions about people saying the reviews are 'fake' (As I was a bit concerned about that as well).. The receptionist does give you a card with directions on how to post a review on CitySearch.. that probably helps account for the high number of reviews here. Since I had such a fantastic experience, I was happy to come write a review :) (it's not something I do very often)

Pros: Antonie!, also friendly, prompt service all around.

Cons: Bit more than I'm used to paying for a hair cut in the suburbs, but you get what you pay for, and after all, this is NY.

I went to Roy Teeluck because i had totally botched bangs (not to mention otherwise boring hair) that needed help. Ali definitely had his work cut out for him (no pun intended). he listened patiently, talked to me about what he was going to do, and then got to work. Not only do i love my new style, but everyone at the salon was friendly and helpful. i was completely at ease the whole time i was there. Ali is great (and pretty easy on the eyes;). Thanks!

Ratings_icons Down-to-earth Sophistication and style at a reasonable price

petgourmet

For the past 10 years I have gone to the same hairstylist - a celebrity stylist - who as my friend, has styled my hair for free. This put any new stylist I might see in the unenviable position of filling the shoes of a legend - and making me willing to pay for it. Not an easy task. I chose Antoine of Roy Teeluck because of the rave reviews and for the reputation of excellent, creative work, coupled with a high quality salon experience without the fuss. I was not disappointed. I received the best haircut I've had in at least 4 years and walked out of the salon for the first time - maybe ever - liking not only the cut, but the styling (which I usually only like when I do it myself). From beginning to end, this was an amazing salon experience. Everyone was friendly without being saccharine - and they were willing to meet my every request (a sign they deal with many high maintenance types) though I am pretty low key. I was made a tastier iced cappuccino than I've had in Starbucks, and before I left, was given a goodie bag with full size products (that's plural!) Antoine felt would help my hair. Antoine himself could not have been more wonderful. Reassuring, calming, a good listener (to my hair wants) and a creative artist who took my lifestyle and face shape into consideration when developing my cut. Would it be outrageous to call him my hair soulmate? Perhaps.... but it sums up my sentiments. He has whole-heartedly won me over. And I wouldn't have been surprised to pay at least 3x what I did for such an experience.
The only negative? The manicurist. Unpersonable, sloppy and rushed - the only way I would pay her for her service would be if i was in a real bind for time and needed to do it at the same time as a haircut. For an excellent hair wash, scalp massage, iced cappuccino (with cinnamon) expert salon experience without the snootiness, reasonable pricing, and hairstylist soul mate experience - look no further. Hair utopia does exist.

Pros: Everything you ever wanted to do with your hair will be better and more enjoyable here

Cons: the manicurist is surly, sloppy, and unpersonable.

Ratings_icons Best Salon Experience Ever

simonedb

Ok, seriously, I have NEVER written a review in my life for anything but I have to comment on this salon. I got my hair cut by Antoine and I am absolutely floored by him and the whole salon. The service from start to finish was amazing. I should premise this with the fact that I'm a Leo and thus, a very difficult hair client in any scenerio. The receptionist was super friendly but not in a patronizing way. The girl who washed my hair was really cool and down to earth (I'm sorry but I didnt get her name), and she gave a great head massage. So onto Antoine. He immediately put me at ease, which is no easy task as I am a control freak with my hair so the fact that he made me feel comfortable is saying a lot. He asked me what I wanted and then proceeding to explain step by step what he was going to do. When he started cutting I could tell that he was confident and skilled by the way he handled his scissors and my hair. He was very careful and precise but artful in the way he cut. The thing that stood out the most about him was the way that he talked about how people and their hair are so closely connected and that you tell a lot about someone by their hair. I wont go into the details but this was a man who was clearly born to practice the art of hairdressing. One thing that stood out was his comment that getting your hair cut takes team work and he puts a lot of effort into finding out about the person who's hair he is cutting, rather than just doing what he wants to do on that particular day or trying to follow the latest trend. The result was a beautifully done, classic cut that was perfectly suited to my face, my style and my life. The cost was $110 which was absolutely a bargain for what I got. Oh, almost forgot, Antoine gave me a free gift as I was leaving, at first i thought he was trying to sell me something but he just gave it to me! As if I needed another reason to love the place! Hats off to Antoine and the whole Roy Teeluck Salon staff.

Pros: everything

Cons: none

Ratings_icons Finally

finallyfoundinny

Roani was my hair dresser and I am so pleased! I have been going to a salon in Boston and finally was brave enough to try a new place in New York (I've been here 2 years now). She gave me a gorgeous cut that was turning heads on the street for the rest of the day, and still looked great the next day at a wedding and through hours of dancing. Not only was it great styled, but it also looked good for the following week while I was traveling and hiking and styling consisted of running my fingers through my hair after a rainstorm. I was hesitant to try someone new who I knew nothing about, but I will definitely go back to her.

I have received the best hair care ever. Ali studied the shape of my face and gave me the best looking hair cut to enhance my facial features. Michelle fixed my hair color to go along with my skin complexion, she did an amazing job with few highlights and lowlights everything in just one visit. I would not go anywhere else for my hair.
