This place is absolutely fabulous! It is cheap and they use fresh and high quality meat. I really like how all their waitresses wear Japanese traditional outift and serve you.

All-you-can-eat sushi deal is amazing but just don't overdo it. You would have to pay for whatever you could not finish!

Also, there is no tipping here. They only charge you 12% "management fee" for 6 people or less. So this makes me feel right back in Asia again! (No tipping there either!)

We drive in from CT just to eat at Yuka...and have for 10 years. We love this little hole in the wall place where you can order the all you can eat sushi off the menu for around $20! The same woman has been waitressing there since we starting going. It's a wonderful place that holds great memories for us. The sushi deal is un-beatable...anywhere.

it is better than average and in a city where restaurants come and go they have been around forever. Their prices are incredibly reasonable, the staff is friendly and their fish is fresh and well prepared. This is traditional sushi, not the crazy concoctions that you often find in over-hyped, trendy restaurants. Not to say I don't appreciate the crazy, but sometimes you just want some tasty, fresh fish on rice. Well this is the place where you can go for that. Oh and for those who love to party they serve sake bombs...what can I say I'm bit of lush!

You need to be a real sushi lover to appreciate this place. Sure, they get really busy, and crowded, and it might be hard to get "perfect" service, but you're here for high quality, low cost sushi --- not to be waited on hand and foot in your own private booth. This place has a loyal fan base; many between 5-10 years. I'm on my fourth year and will keep coming regularly until they close their doors. And if they do, I don't know what I'll do!

Just ate here, and it was an unpleasant experience all around. First of all, there didn't seem to be any tables for two so you have to share a cramped table with others, which wasn't the worst thing, but it's not great for a relaxing night out either. Then there's the whole service issue, which was beyond spotty (for my wife and I, and the two people sharing the table with us). They seemed to forget about half my order, only to bring it out much later, after I had already ordered more. As for the quality of the fish, the nigiri was passable at best, and the cut rolls were borderline inedible. Please tell me why spicy tuna rolls would taste like tomato sauce. It was a challenge eating here, and I will never go back, though apparently my experience is an outlier here.

Pros: Score one for value

Cons: Quality of sushi, the wait, sharing tables, and, oh, the spicy tuna tastes like tomato sauce

I guess this place must have its good and bad days, because I cannot believe anyone wouuld give this place a bad review.

ALL sushi places that have an "All You Can Eat" menue charge you for each piece of sushi you do not eat, so whoever complained about that get a clue.

The sushi was very fresh and tasty. The service was very good. Try throwing a few bucks in the tip jar, maybe you will get better service!

For the price of the all you can eat this is an outstanding value. I will definetly be back.

Refreshing to see something on the upper east side that won't break the bank - Yuka is a great sushi place - fresh fish, VERY REASONABLY PRICED, and quick if you call to pick up. There is always a wait for tables at the restaurant - but hey - thats what happens with good food!

I moved to NY after living in Japan for two years. I've read all the reviews which are mixed, but I ordered the sushi/sashimi combo and the dragon roll to share with a friend, and it was amazing. We had more than enough food for the two of us, and the sashimi was awesome. Huge fresh slices with good flavor. Maybe the AYCE isn't really worth the price, but ordering off the menu was still an amazing deal. I love sushi, but I'm also excited to try the other Japanese dishes like udon and tonkatsu, etc., since I miss Japanese food. This place isn't trying to sell its atmosphere but rather good, cheap, authentic food. Maybe it's not consistent, but Yuka was a deliciously good experience for us! So happy it's just down the street too!

Cons: basic decor

A friend of ours recommended this place, so we decided to check it out. My fiance got the AYCE and I ordered off the menu. The service was good, courteous, and quick, but the sushi was atrocious. The sashimi was good, and the fish fresh, but the rice was soaked in vinegar and overpowered any other taste (fish, soy, wasabi). Basically all I could taste was the vinegar. One of the worst sushi places I have ever been to. Definitely will not return. There were three of us and all agreed at how awful the sushi was. Incidentally all three wound up with upset stomachs for the rest of the night.

They have an amazing sashimi plate for like a dollar!! OK its not a dollar, but, its like $12 for 15 pieces of sashimi and that my friends is fabulous. And it's delicious!! Very fresh, I've eaten here a billion times and have never been disappointed. PS: I read the review below about the m ice-- probably every restaurant in Manhattan has "m ice"; and about the IRS; every restaurant in Manhattan does not want to pay the IRS. At any rate, go there, you will not be disappointed, and your wallet will thank you.

Pros: Prices, freshness of sashimi

Cons: Not romantic; a bit loud

.

this is perhaps one of the most disgusting sushi places in all of Manhattan. The fish is not fresh, they overload everything with avocado and rice and they charge you for even the smalest piece of sushi left over. Not kidding, my wife didnt eat one piece of sushi from the all-you-can-eat and they had the nerve to ask for a dollar for the piece not eaten...and this was after we paid the bill and were on our way out the door.

Also, on busy nights they always seem to have credit card machine problems and demand cash-only. hmmm...someone doesnt wanna pay the IRS.

the wooden serving plates still come with food from the last person who ate on them. All they do is give everything a quick wipe-down with a towel.

check out the health inspection notices from the city of ny. google "nyc restaurant health violations" and find their review. m ice! should call this place yuck-a

I read all the raving reviews about the quality of Yuka and the large portions, so I was naturally excited to try this place out. My fiance and I were very disappointed with what we found. Yes, the rolls are large, but it is merely a big roll of rice loaded with tons of scallions and covered with spicy sauce. They do this to hide the fact that they don't actually include any fish in their sushi. Out of morbid curiosity we opened a piece of each roll to see if there was any fish inside and lo and behold they did include a tiny piece in each of these huge rolls. And, what's with fried salmon being their default salmon rolls? They looked at us like we were crazy for asking that the salmon not be fried.

I love their all you can eat it has always been fresh when I go. I am totally crazy about the spicy salmon roll with fresh salmos, the sauce is awesome and they put fresh herbs in it. I go here at least twice a week and I am nowhere near the upper east side. It's addictive!

Sushi-Lovers BEWARE!!
This place is the pits for many reasons:
1) the sushi is not fresh and is quite mediocre
2) the service is very slow and no one there speaks any english
3) if you do the all-you-can-eat sushi then you get CHARGED for every piece of sushi that you can't eat
4) they won't bring any more food for you until you finish what's on your plate, which is CRAZY because you can't and don't want to finish the bad bad bad sushi at this crappy restaurant!!

I go to Yuca Restaurant all the time. I'm 15 and i've been eating from this place practically my whole life. Well, I am also related to the Owners of Yuca but that doesn't matter. Yuca Restaurant is probably the most decent and fantastic sushi place you will eat at. It's great for lunch hours and late-night dinners. Even though the restaurant is kind of small, business is always blooming. If you went there at night, you would be able to see the crowded tables and so many people waiting outside or near the doors to get a table. It gets a bit crazy sometimes during the night because Yuca gets A LOT of costumers and believe me, I've watched people going in and out that I lost count. The service here is awesome. The waitresses really care about what you order and they never ever get orders mixed up like some places might do. They will always ask you if you need anything else or if everything is okay. They are also smiling all the time and will put a smile on every costumer's face. The sushi makers are great too. Everytime you walk in or out of the restaurant, they always yell out a "Welcome!" or "Goodnight/Goodbye!" chant and its entertaining and hillarious. Besides the workers, the food is AWESOME too. The owner hires skilled workers so how can something taste aweful? I am telling you, from a california roll to a tempura, or sashimi, you will be more than satisfied and who know's, you might want to go back again. Yuca Restaurant is one place where all your needs will be fully satisfied. I bet you'll come out with a full smile on your face and I'm not just saying this because I'm their neice. Trust this review and take a try at one of the most amazingly delicious sushi restaurants on Earth! =)

I ate at Yuka a week ago following on a friend recommendation that was especially enthusiastic about the $18 all-you-can-eat. Despite my disbelief that for $18 one can get a decent sushi, my friend insisted that it is good. I am open for decent good values so I tried the all-you-can-eat-for-$18. My wife and a friend ordered a la carte.
All of us received the worst sushi we have ever eaten! My companions stopped eating after few bites the sushi was uneatable. For my $18 all-you-can-eat, this place managed to serve what seems to be a value of not more then $5, by serving the lowest possible fish quality, in tiny pieces on large amount of rice. The Nori (seaweed) that wrapped the rolls was dry and had the texture of a thin bland crispy cracker it tasted like aged dry leftover. The Spicy Tuna roll was filled up with a horrible weird red paste that had nothing to do with Tuna. These are just few samples. I have never had such a bad experience after eating lots of sushi in the last 20 years.
What astonished me, or maybe not, is that the place was full of what seems to be happy dinners. It seems to me that Yuka's owners have found the magic formula of selling the ultimate junk sushi for a low price that makes it profitable and still ends up with making many people happy. I am not one of them.
Note that entering the restaurant you may feel that you are in a real good hole-in-the-wall sushi place but what a disappointment later.

i used to love coming to this plc for some good no fuss sushi despite the long wait and honestly, not so spectacular service. basically i am here for the sushi and nothing else. but that all changed about a month ago. when my usual 'sashimi deluxe' came to my table, i thought it was a joke! it was 1/4 of what i used to get from that!! it was totally a rip off. i complained to the server and she said that's nothing she can do about it.. it is what the chef was serving. then she gave me some bullsh** about how things are getting more expensive nowadays and if they don't raise price, they will have to cut on the portion. that's SUCH A BUNCH OF C R A P! what's even more laughable is that at the end of the menu - which did not take long - she came w/ a bowl of ice cream (obviously being nervous about her tip!!) and said it's on the house. PLEASE.. that bowl of red bean ice cream was so horrible that i couldn't even have a 2nd spoonful. i won't recommend this plc anymore.

This is our most favorite sushi spot! It's great for any night, dine in or delivery, because it's fast, not expensive and really good. It feels so authentic, and the rolls are incredible. We also love being shouted at in Japanese, when we walk in and when we leave :) The chefs are hilarious, sitting at the bar is an experience worth coming for. Don't get the all you can eat, just pick out your favorites from the extensive menu, you won't be dissapointed!

I used to have friends who said that you couldn't eat a lot of sushi. Those friends had obviously not visited the New York City's famous Yuka Restaurant, home of the best all you can eat sushi experience for miles. You have to be careful and not order too much or they'll charge you for everything you don't eat. The sushi is very good - but it's the service that is usually variable. Sometimes they are so busy that it takes almost an hour to get your food. Other times, it's less than 5 minutes. On average, it's a fun experience. Go in a group and share - it makes it more fun!

my brother & i came hungry last night and very eager to try their all-you-can-eat sushi special ($18pp). the variety of fish wasnt bad and all the usual suspects (salmon, tuna, yellowtail, squid, octopus, etc) were present. fish was fresh enough, but the quality was only so-so (the salmon was especially sinewy). you could also get any of the nigiri sushi as either a maki or a handroll. out of the handrolls, the yuka (salmon, salmon roe, and cucumber) & the crispy salmon skin were especially good. special house rolls could be ordered for an additional price. sushi is made fresh to order, and you can put in as many orders as you want, but we definitely noticed the lag time between our orders get longer and longer (sit at the sushi bar for faster service). service was polite. restaurant was very crowded even on a weekday.

honestly the worst sushi my husband and i had in our entire lives. believe us, we've been eating sushi for over 15 yrs. not sure why this restaurant would be rated that highly. the all-u-can-eat sushi is definitely in very poor quality. limited menu, no-so-fresh ingredients, thinly-sliced fish, fall-apart rice. the only things u could really taste are the very salty soy sauce (even its low sodium), the vinegar-soaked rice, and the scallion on top of the fish. the waitstaffs are nice though. wont come back again for sure!

The atmosphere is nothing special, but it feels like a Sushi establishment in Tokyo. The owner and staff are all Japanese as well and that adds to the entire ambiance. Despite a slightly limited menu, everything prepared is done to perfection, ultra fresh and a work of food art. I must give it Yon out of Yon stars! Taxan delicious! Arigato Gozimas Yuka!

This is some really good, inexpensive sushi. It costs $2 extra to turn a regular roll into an inside-out roll, but the roll more than triples in size, and that's not just from the rice. The spicy Tuna roll is huge and probably the best that I've had at this price range. The Yellowtail was particularly good as well. I have reservations about the all you can eat deal, however -- the choices are fairly limited and you can probably order more food than you can eat for less than $18 by just going off the menu. In any event, this is a place I'll be sure to stop by again when I'm in this part of town.

Known especially for the startingly enthuiastic sushi chef greetings as you walk in (Nasheymasay!! they all cry), Yuka offers one of the city's best all you can eat sushi deals. Eighteen bucks gets you two hours worth of all-American gorging (they kick you out after 2 hours), which, though inelegant, is kind of addictive, especially if you like to eat a lot of the raw stuff. The best hand roll is the eponymously named Yuka, which combines cucumber, Ikura (salmon roe), and salmon (It's difficult to only eat one, and fortunately you can order as many as you want...).

You absolutely cannot beat the "all you can eat deal" at this place. For under $20 you can pretty much stuff yourself silly for 2 hours. While the all you can eat peices are understandably smaller and more rice heavy the regular priced sushi is just divine. Fantastic eel and awesome rolls. The service is fast almost to a fault. Our food was coming out faster then we could eat, fantastic! Cozy atmosphere with paper cranes swaying from the ceiling. This place is small and it WILL get crowded come dinnertime so make sure to get here a little earlier then when you want to eat.

Yuka is one of my favorite japanese restaurants to order take out from. The sushi is actually great for the price you pay. It helped curb my spending which was getting out of control at the more expensive sushi places

Well on a friday or sat, i think this place should take reservations as it gets pretty busy. we had to wait 45 mins to eat, so we went to a bar up the street.

sashimi was meh, salmon was good but the tuna was a little white and seemed like the day before as the flavor had faded. Rolls nothing special.

Sandobe is a much better place....but then again, I may just be spoiled by their rolls.

The waiting is horroble. We waited 45min to get a table for 3people. Thanks god food was delicious. At the same time service was bad.It seems like they want you to eat fast and leave. So, they can get new people. Over all, that is the cheapes place for sushi. Good luch.

The folks at Yuka really do it right. When you first walk in, the sushi chefs give you are hearty "irash-shaimase!" The main dining area is pleasantly decorated with paper cranes. The waitresses, in kimonos, are authentically Japanese (except I think there's one Korean girl). There is an oba-san (grandma) there that is particularly friendly. The all-you-can eat sushi is a deal, but the regular sushi is way better.

You can't beat Yuka for it's amazing All You Can Eat sushi deal. Just getting the eel is well worth the long wait. Get there early or late for dinner. The dinner rush is pretty hectic. Just don't tell too many people and keep this the best kept sushi secret!

i frequent Yuka once a week when i lived in the uppereast. their sushi are always very fresh. service is very friendly. the best value is the all you can eat for $18. ($25 tax and tips). i suggest the Sushi bar seating for quicker service and theater-liked performance by the chefs.
Yuka is definitely one of the best Japanese Sushi joint in the city when it comes to value and quality. i am going to miss eating there when i relocate to Boston.

Yuka is fantastic, although since the Cheap Eats article in New York Magazine, this place has been pouring with the East Side Yuppie Yups. They used to stay out for fear that it was not posh enough. Thanks to NY Mag, they are flooding what used to be the best kept secret around. So, BRAVO, anyway to Yuka - they are the friendliest, the freshest and just an all around PERFECT 10!

I only have a few words to describe YUKA. Fresh, Mouth-watering, Filling, and CHEAP. Yeah!!!! That's right. Incomparable to other Japanese Restaurants they offer friendly service and a wide variety of fishes sliced ever so nicely to make your sushi experience something to remember. Take the hint... Cheap and Mouth-watering! Get your bottom on the 6 train and Oh!...Watch out for the origami on the ceiling! Have a great time! I know I did. =)

We are from Philadelphia and visited Yuka on the recommendation of a friend. It was great! I believe that the sushi is pretty fresh and an excellent value for $18!! We drive to NY just to eat here sometimes! If we lived in NY, we would probably eat here once a week. Great service, the place is small and packed though, so don't expect much romance. The only think that would make this place better would be if were BYOB. Alas, life is not perfect, but Yuka sure comes close.

One of the few bargains in the city. All you can eat sushi for the budget conscience without the scarifies. Great for a party of 7 or less. Eat your heart out!
