I guess having to pay for Montague Street rents, an absentee owner, a studio manager and several front desk employees leaves little revenue to pay the actual yoga instructors.
As a result, many classes are taught by rather inexperienced

Yoga Teachers are good!! I love the studio and other classes there.
I would love to give 5 stars for the studio and the ambiance
But 1 star or no star only because the administration and the owner are very rude and never helpful, They have different answers all times..
when you are buying or spending for some class card they are good and if you have any trouble they are very rude and will never get back to you. They do not keep up to their promises.

This studio was very nice. The front desk staff are friendly and welcoming. The women's dressing room is spacious. I enjoyed the instructors at this studio. The neighbourhood is great too - you're right downtown in Brooklyn! Fun!

Wow, I have had a truly different experience from the past 2 reviewers!! I have been going to this studio since September. Before I began I had NEVER taken a vinyasa style class and had only dabbled in Hatha and Bikram. I started with basic classes and tried as many different teachers as I possibly could before settling on my favorites, but I can honestly say that each and every teacher has been supportive, humble, super educated, and has had something unique and special to offer to my practice. I now take some of the most challenging classes they provide and continue to learn and grow during every class. I can not possibly imagine who those two critics could be refering to, but please don't let them stop you from trying out this studio. I for one have found a very happy home there!!

Cons: No mat storage space for rent.

I'm sorry, I tried this place three times, and to put it bluntly, the teachers are unbearable.

It is so taken for granted that they are beautiful, smart, lovely, enlightened people that they forget how they come off to the rest of us. They are condescending even when you ask innocent questions. It is like they hate new people. The last time, I said No way, I'm not coming back. There is a male teacher who is unbelievably vain, and a female teacher who needs some ego reduction surgery. Note: There may be some good teachers here that I didn't have but that's a risk that I'll have to take.

I am generally critical of Bikram classes, but you know what? At least they serve the masses.

Unbelievably terrible vibe from the teachers. Acceptable yoga instruction but certainly nothing great. Definitely not worth it. Practice at home.

My experience in three words:

Rude. Arrogant. Competent.

Being a guy I am always a little apprehensive about new yoga studios. However this place was very welcoming . I first called the place on Saturday to get a better feel of the studio and left a message. I received a call back the next day where this very friendly and funny person help put my feelings at ease. She understood where I was coming for as a Guy and my concerns and assured me that the place was friendly. When I arrived everyone was out going - the owner came of and introduced herself and talked about the different classes. The instructed was very helpful and the class was challenging. A definite return

In the three years that I have had a yoga practice Yoga People has been the nicest and most enjoyable studio for me to visit regularly.

The studio has wonderful instructors and the class size is small enough that you will get personal attention. The studio offers a great selection of yoga classes from beginner classes to advanced levels. Yoga People also has a good schedule of classes to take both during the day and at night.

Overall I would hole-heartedly recommend Yoga People to anyone interested in either starting to learn about Yoga or for individuals continuing in their current practice. The Brooklyn Heights studio is beautiful and the relaxed atmosphere is a perfect place to take classes and meet other nice people.

The friendly owner is more than happy to help in anyway she can in fitting your yoga interests to classes that are available. Yoga People will make your yoga practice stress-free while making it a personal experience.

Yoga People is one of the best health clubs/gym ever! The staff is so nice and pleasant. Their exercises and routines are beneficial and relaxing. The atmosphere is calm and soothing. The rates aren't so bad as well.

Yoga People is an amazing studio! Their new space is intimate without feeling crowded, with huge windows that let in tons of natural light and gorgeous wooden floors. THeire mom-and-baby classes are terrific, and their prenatal teachers are incredible. In fact, all the insturctors are wonderful, tremendously supportive and encouraging despite your skill level. It's the best studio I've been to in Brooklyn!

I just moved to Brooklyn and am so relieved to have found a studio I love just as much as my studio back home! The studio at Yoga People is beautiful with high ceilings and big windows, and I love that they let me use their mats for free so I don't have to haul my own with me. I took a particularly wonderful Jivamukti class with Jen, and have yet to take a class from someone I did not like. Everyone I've encountered there has been lovely, staff and other students alike. Yoga People has quickly become a part of my routine, my new home away from home!

What a departure from the standard Yoga studio. The place is so calming and zen like and does not contain that garish colors and general cheesiness you so often see in yoga studios. Its nice they used a lot of green materials too. The class was great--a little difficult for me becuase I am stiff and out of practice but the instructor was very accomodating. The spa looks lovely too I can't wait to get a massage there.

I was introduced to yoga at Yoga People shortly after moving into the neighborhood last year. I took their beginner's course and LOVED it!! I feel more alive, I have less pain in my neck and shoulders and I'm more energetic. I couldn't stop recommending it to all my friends enough and ended up taking the course again with a friend who loved it as well - she's become a regular student and I get out to class as much as I possibly can - I particularly love Jen, the Jivamukti teacher and Morgen's class and the times work with my busy schedule. The new space is AMAZING and the most gorgeous space on Montague Street and the spa there is now my new favorite place to go for massage and is great for spa parties (I've had 2 ;) ). So take a class and then get in for a massage - there's really nothing sweeter!

If you haven't already, check out Yoga People's new space on Montague Street- all I can say is WOW! The space is so calming and beautiful, and just steps from the R train which is perfect for me! The spa area has expanded and is equally beautiful, which leaves me to wonder...why haven't I gotten a massage here yet??? Seriously I am so impressed by the space and if you are serious about yoga in B'lyn Heights then this is the place to go.

I hadn't taken yoga in several years and came across this space walking by with friends, and am so glad I did! The teachers are awesome and very attentive. Classes are intimate and personal and you get the personalized attention from the teachers that you don't get at the big studios in the city. They make sure that they know every student's limitations prior to class so they can ensure a safe expereience. Have also gotten massages there- what a treat! I don't even live that close to the studio but I keepcoming back every week. Do yourself a favor and try Yoga People- and bring a friend!

What a great place to practice yoga!! I've been practicing for over 15 years and have been everywhere. The teachers here are hand picked for their excellent instruction, style and spirit and it shows in every class. Beautiful, clean environment and friendly, knowledgeable staff. There is always a smiling face to greet you at the desk and answer questions. And they're moving to Montague Street in May to an even more beautiful space! And with the same great teachers and more massage therapists at the Urbanzen Spa, it doesn't get much better. How great to take a yoga class and then have really great bodywork, all in the same place. I'm so glad I found Yoga People!

Yoga People ROCKS!

Fast and friendly front desk.

You would also be very well served to check out saturday classes with Jorja; her class is accessible, intelligently conducted, and her vibrantly relaxed style is a delight. Inspirational.

And I'm coming from Manhattan so being this close to all the trains really helps...worth the trip for sure!

Yoga People is Good People!!

Great teachers and a wonderful environment. I have been coming to classes for a year and would not dream of going anywhere else. The price of classes is comparable to other studios in the area but here you get individual attention, unlike many other larger studios.

I'm a serious commitmentphobe with an apparent aversion to planning my day. I tend to do things if I "feel like it" and will give myself an easy out if I don't. What's changed this? Tara Glazier's Anusara class at Yoga People in Brooklyn Heights. Her class inspired me to buy a class card (a 3 month one to boot!) and I have been incorporating her class into my routine ever since. I had never heard of Anusara before taking her class.--it's described as a "heart opening" form of yoga but it's also physically demanding. Class always starts with a spiritual message and a theme that we carry throughout the class. Tara is incredibly knowledgeable about how the body works and creates a atmosphere comfortable for learning.

I've taken other classes there, too. Rachel F. really creates a warm and welcoming environment. Andre takes you to another world--his experience really shows. A couple of years ago, I took this amazing 4-week Intro to Ashtagna class there. Even though I had done some Ashtanga before, I learned techniques in that class that I still incorporate into my practice today.

One added bonus--there's a health food store on the same block. So after your body is good to you in class, you can conveniently replenish it with wholesome food.

This studio has a homey vibe and the teachers are fantastic. Check out Rachel's Vinyasa classes on Wednesday night and Saturday afternoon. Tara's Friday night and Sunday morning Anusara classes are fantastic as well. They've also got a full roster of Basic and Prenatal classes and even a Sunday afternoon Meditation class!

When I moved to DUMBO one year ago I was affraid that I wouldn't find a yoga studio comparable to the ones I used in Manhattan. Then I found this jewel called Yoga People and I have been in nirvana ever since. It is the best yoga studio I've been to in my 10+ years of practicing yoga. Great teachers, great ambiance, and a real spiritual community feeling..

My wife and i have been taking classes at Yoga People in Brooklyn Heights for the last 7 years. Back in 2000, I couldn't touch my toes and had stress headaches almost daily. Now yoga is an integral part of my life, and I practice exclusively at Yoga People. I've taken classes at other yoga studios, but there's a warm, intimate, unpretentious feel to YP that suits me perfectly.

I got the absolute BEST massage ever at Yoga People! Regine, the masseuse there, made me brand new. I went to her twice during the last few weeks of my pregnancy and I have never felt so good. I was feeling like an 80 year-old woman before I went to see her the first time. My hips, butt and low back were killing me not to mention my big 'ole swollen feet (all from the pregnancy of course) I could barely walk without pain. After one session I was floating outta there and by the second time I was butter.
I treated my husband to a massage with Regine and he's hooked now - I'll be back to her as soon as possible for post-partum massage, I'm in need bad and I can't wait!
