4 Stars: Penny's Hardware (by Rachel Z.)

Old-style personalized corner hardware store where they know who you are and they know what you need. Far more helpful than the big-box stores, and worth the little bit extra you'll pay.

4 Stars: Knowlegeable (by Kris L.)

This is a great shop to go to when you are doing a home repair. You can usually ask questions and they either know how or someone working there knows how to accomplish it- They give out great helpers. The prices are ok... the bigger chain stores are lower but not nearly as personable. I dont mind paying the little extra- I consider it paying for advice. Its really a great store to go to for all your home reapir needs.... Not as much variety but the people make up the difference!

4 Stars: Great place in the city (by Shawn F.)

This is a great place for people who like to do project themselves. They dont have everything that you can find in Home Depot but it has everything Ive ever needed. It is a great little store in the city of Buffalo, that is very convenient, and you can actually get someone to help you instead of roaming around home Dept looking for assistance.

4 Stars: Nice Mom & Pop Hardware Store (by Brian R.)

The anti-"big box" hardware store, Penny's is a place that's nice not because they offer everything under the sun, but because they have people who've probably done almost every kind of home repair job under the sun.

While they don't have the variety you'd find at a Home Depot or even somewhere like Valu, they probably have what you need for 95% of home repair jobs. More importantly, they have people that will help you get everything you need before leaving the store so you don't have the all-too-typical Big-box home store experience of having to make multiple trips.

A bit of a throwback, but in a good way.

PROS: Experienced staff who know what they're talking about
CONS: Solid, but not spectacular selection
