I called Decker plumbing due to a sulfur gas smell coming from my basement pipes. Bill Decker initially quoted a price of $1000 dollars to replace approx 5 feet of cast iron pipes, including a back water valve, with PVC piping. The pipes are easily accessible, in my basement, and completely exposed. They were not outside, or under cement, or in a hard to reach area. When I called him back to actually perform the job, he quoted me a new flat rate price of $1500, for the job. Initially, I had no idea what this type of job SHOULD cost & I just flatly accepted this price due to my overwhelming frustration with the sulfur gas/smell coming from one of the valves, within the cast iron pipes, and filling up my entire home. He led me to believe the job was very involved & would require a great deal of effort. I even asked him if he would, at least, be done within a day??s worth of work, since I was under the impression this was a big job. Well, the job took less than 30 minutes to complete. One plumber and a helper arrived at 11AM, left to purchase parts, and were back and out of my house after completing the entire job including cleanup by 1:30 PM. Materials were less than $100. Bill Decker was only present for the quote & then after the job was done, to pick up his check. It was then that I questioned the quote, even though I still paid him. I??ve since contacted other plumbers and a friend in the business & ALL have said that I was overcharged by more than $1000 dollars. I??ve called him several times, asking him to be fair. I had no idea how outrageous his quote had been until after the fact. So, he has my money. I am not one to stop pymt on the check I wrote and for service I initially agreed to, but rather wish he would acknowledge he overcharged me for work. I realize I acted foolishly by accepting one quote & not digging deeper for an explanation of this quote, which I won??t do again, but again I feel he should act ethical and fair, which to this point he has NOT been.

These are not the cheapest plumbing and heating contractors that I have found in the Capital District, but their work is very commendable. They are neat, on time, professional, and their workmanship is impeccable.

I called them in to fix a problem that another contractor left me with along with the bill, and I was pleased with the work Decker's had done. I would highly recommend them. They are pricey, but their work is great.
