Nivie Electronics in Brooklyn, (718) 765-0123, has always been good to me. They are Panasonic's authorized repair shop in New York City. Their location is pretty out of the way (Bay Ridge), but my experiences with them have been 180 degrees oppostite from the experiences these users had at Video Hospital.

I took a portable dvd player to these guys 5 weeks ago and have been given the runaround ever since. i was first told that i would be called "in a day or two" with a repair estimate. That never happened. After calling for 7-10 days and always being told that they would call me back, (which they never once did) i went in to find out what was going on. It took the guy about 25 minutes just to find my order even though i had my receipt. Once he finally came back out he said "someone should have called you". At that point im more than a little frustrated and he can give me zero explanation for why noone has returned any of my 5+ calls to the store. He then goes on to tell me that its all because "Sony and Panasonic lost alot of money in 2005" Blah, Blah, Blah. I tried to tell him that i didn't care if it was going to take a while all i wanted was a call back as they had promised several times. HE proceeded to tell me it will take two weeks to fix. It has been more than that and i cant get a straight answer from a single person. this place is FISHY! I would go get my player back except im in a little deep as i have already paid for half of the repairs (as they required). Bottom Line.... STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. I don't know where to recommend but there has to be numerous other places in the city to get things repaired. Again, STAY AWAY!

Yipes. I dropped off a video camera for repair six months ago (a common brand and model). For the first few months, the part needed was on backorder. I had to pry to get this info. Finally, after several more visits I was able to find out that there was another part that could be ordered in place of the first part which would take a week to come in. I requested they order the part. One and a half months later I was told the part hadn't come in. Most recently I was hung up on twice by staff. I've never recieved a call from them and I've found it extremely difficult to get any info about the status of the repair. They don't seem to want to discuss it. Fishy. Next step is small claims, I suppose...it's been a drag dealing with them.
