We went with another couple to Taninos to try for the first time. Food was not bad but the poor attitude of the server made the experience less than enjoyable. When we asked her for each couple to have separate checks, she came back and tossed the "check folder" on the table which had both couple's checks in it! We then saw her hovering and complaining to other wait staff. The immaturity and unprofessionalism of the server was not appreciated, especially when spending over $120 for food and wine.

I have eaten at restaurants all over the world - this is my favorite!

If any one asks me where to go for a GREAT meal in the area - Tanino Ristorante is where I tell them to go. I have eaten there many times - I have NEVER had a horrible experience as described below in some reviews.

The wait staff is overly friendly, knowledgeable, and professional.
The food is worth the price. I personally have never had a meal there that was less than wonderful. My husband had a complaint - expressed it in a friendly, non-confrontational manner to waiter and it was resolved, fast, and with an apology.

I have one small issue - they formerly had the oil, garlic, Parmesan cheese, and oregano separately for the freshly baked bread. Now they bring it all mixed together. Not a fan but no reason to bash the place.

We have taken many relatives and friends to Tanino's - every single one has loved it and gone back on their own many times.

I would eat there every single night of the year - delicious!

I will start with saying that I have been dining at this restaurant

for about 8 years and I had always been happy with it before.

This last time I went I was appalled!!
I ordered my favorite salad: the "spinach salad". I order it every
time no need to even look at the menu. When it came to me it was #1
half the size or smaller and it was made with Blue Cheese(which is a
cheese I can not eat, not that they know that). I asked the waitress
if they changed the menu because it has never been served with Blue
before. She looked at my plate, said yes that does look like Blue
cheese, returned my plate to the kitchen, walked past our table 2-3
times, never mentioned it and then returned with my plate with NO
cheese at all on it. I asked her again if the menu had been changed

and she said no that it has always been served with Gorgonzola cheese.

At that point I realized she knows nothing about cheeses and did not
have the interest to find out that they are two totally different
cheeses. So we concluded she was young and I still enjoyed my cheese
less salad. I normally can't come close to finishing a meal after
eating one of their salads but because it was so small and cheeses
less I was eagerly waiting for my meal. SO....after quite a long wait
it had arrived, I must say a very beautiful presentation (lobster
ravioli) BUT it had absolutely NO taste at all! I asked my fiance to
taste it to be sure it was not me and he laughed saying his mornings
cereal milk had more flavor than the cream sauce served on the
ravioli. The waitress did say when she brought my meal that the
raviolis had cracked open so they were making a few extras and she did

bring them out later. Needless to say our meal was not at all what we

normally expect, we were charged full price with no apologies and it
will be next to never that we go there again :(

Had dinner there with our family including both adults and kids. We were seated in one of the small private rooms which was nice. Service was slow throughout the evening - especially between the salad and entree. I might understand that on a busy weekend, but it was fairly slow weeknight. The lobster appetizer was poor to say it nicely. It was basically fried bread with sauce. The entrees and pizzas were all good and priced competitively. The drinks however were very expensive. 8.50 for a cosmo seems a bit high and we didn't get Grey Goose either.

This was my fourth trip in four years. It's not bad - but it's not that great. It's good salesmanship. They put pre-purchased loaves of Italian Bread next to the pizza oven so you think they baked it there. Again, not a bad restaurant, but there are better in the area.

i agree that the 2 negatives are bogus, particularly the "wine by the glass" bit.

i do have a gripe (with a very very very small "g") about reservations. on several occasions we have waited to be seated long after the time of our reservations. while we all know the vagaries of timing the runove of tables, we waited once for 45 minutes and another for about 40.

but then you get to sit down and eat......

I was fortunate enough to stumble onto this gem while traveling. It is HANDS DOWN the finest food that I have had outside of Italy's borders. The service was amazing, the food was out of this world and the atmosphere just put it over the top for me. I only have one regret... I live in NC and can not enjoy this more often. I am ruined! I do not look at my local favorites with the same luster that I once did. Do not hesitate to eat here!

I moved to Horseheads,NY a year ago.I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Taninos! The service is amazing, food is MUCH better than I could have ever expected! The other comments have to be from people who are jealous that their food doesnt taste like Taninos!(Some ppl arent happy no matter what!) Their loss! This is Italian food at its finest! It also has to be said that Taninos makes Olive Garden look like a fast food joint!! We have enjoyed it everytime we go there! You actually feel as though you are in a small Italian Bistro. As a matter of fact,we are going there tonight with friends!! I cant wait! I would definately give Taninos a million stars for their service, food and class! Once you eat there just 1 time, you will be hooked for life! Keep up the good work!

I have eaten there only twice, and I have had great service. The food was very good, and compaired to other restaurant pricing, it was about the same.

I can not believe that someone would say they had a terible experience. I believe that there was a grudge to be had.

Of course you will have to eat there for your own thoughts. But I know you will like it.......

Oh my gosh, I can't believe the two bad reviews. After multiple meals at Tanino's, I cannot think of a single thing I would complain about. The food is great, the prices are reasonable, and the service has always been outstanding. Of course I am not a chef, but I know good food when I eat it.

Those two bad reviews are fake. There is no way that they describe Tanino's. No way. This is the best place to eat in this area and I mean Horseheads, Corning, Watkins Glen, and I say even Ithaca. I have lived in this area for over a decade, and the food and service are amazing. Every single time. The prices are more than reasonable, and Daniel G is also right about the fact that Tanino's is so good they are packed every single night (I live just down the road) and whatever wait time there is....totally worth it. If you haven't yet -GO THERE! You won't regret it. YUM!

I read the reviews here, they are either superb, or terrible, and nothing in between. This alone seems a little funny to me. I only came to this site to get the phone #, I eat at Tanino's often, and can agree with only the GREAT reviews. Taninos is easily one of the best Southern Tier restaurants, and is always busy, any night of the week. I have never had anything less then terrific food, and great service. we eat there at least once a month. The ANONYMOUS person who said it was terrible must be a competitor whose parking lot is empty! Tonight, as usual, the service was friendly and superb, and the meal was the same. I looked at the menu to see which $ 30 steak Mr. Anonymous was whining about. The fact is the most expensive steak is under $ 27., with most around $ 24. I do not believe his review is real, and based on a visit to Tanino's.
I have no financial or friendship interest in this restaurant, but i really like it ( I travel all over the east and have compared!), and i hate to see a place get "trashed' when it is not true.
Are you wondering which reviews are truthful? Just drive by Tanino's parking lot during serving hours, it's a real indicator!

One of the best Italian restaurants we've ever been to, and we have been all over the USA. Atmosphere is also very nice, and prices are moderate, excellant value. The service is also very good. I can't comment on the wine selection, as I do not drink wine, but we try to go to Taninos whenever in the area

I have dined out in all major cities of the world and stumbled upon Tanino's through invitation of a business partner.

Tanino's had a wide range menu of fine Italian influenced food; gastronomic delights for the well educated pallet. I recommend this restaurant to those looking for a pleasant change in dining out. The atmosphere and food is Metro quality and something you will remember. Steaks were delicious and the staff was fast, courteous and well experienced. The price was well worth it.

Being a Chef with over twenty years experience, I am sometimes a little picky when it comes to dining out.
But this restaurant is an insult to Italians and Italian food every where.

The Marinara sauce tasted and looked as if the cook had just opened a can and emptied it on right onto the plate. The caesar dressing tasted like it had come from Costco. The essentials Italian flavor do not exist here. Where is the fresh Basil, Fresh Oregano, Garlic, Parsley, Lemon, Plum Tomatoes, Olives, Rosemary, I could go on and on. The food is completely bland. Absolutely zero flavor.

And as for the service, where do I start. When we were first seated, our waitress came to our table took greeted us and promptly disappeared for about 20 minutes. When she returned, she asked us were we ready to order. We told her we had yet to read the menu and would also like to order wine. When our food finally arrived, the busboy placed it on a tray stand beside our table, where it sat for nearly ten minutes. Our waitress passed the tray stand several times stared at the food then at us. Only after seating another table, bringing water to to other guests, cleaning several tables did she finally grace us with her presence and deliver the food. Which was bland and barely edible.

We had ordered wine from a new additions to the wine list table display. The wine we ordered was under 25 dollars a bottle. When we got the bill they charged us 90 dollars for the bottle. When we brought this to the attention of the waitress we were told that that is the actual price. We pointed out the table tent display which included prices and where told that that was the "by the glass" price. No where on the table tent did it say "By the Glass". Not even is the most expensive cites across America does one pay over twenty dollars per glass, not in Los Angeles, Manhatten, Boston, San Fransisco. Not even in Paris, London, Dublin or Tokyo does one pay these prices. But in Horseheads, NY at this reataurant they c

This strip mall restaurant thinks its high-end Italian cuisine, but very poor service and "okay" meals doesn't compare to the ridiculous, overpriced wine-list. If you want to pay $22 dollars a glass (and not realizing that you are doing so until the bill comes) for a so-so wine, this is your dream restaurant! Forget Manhattan or LA, you can pay big city prices right here in the middle of Upstate. Customer service is non-existent, buyers beware!

We love to go to Tanino's for dinner. The decor is beautiful, the wait staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and the food is wonderful. We have yet to have a bad meal here. My favorite is Chicken Scampi - make sure you order is over pasta - I did receive it plain once with pasta and red sauce on the side. You want the pasta under the scampi to get all the delicious sauce. My husband is quite fond of the veal dishes and the salads are great. I've enjoyed their pizza also.
