wow, wow and wow

by foodtodiefor

This place is super cool. It has fantastic food, free comedy shows while you dine in. On certain days, it has many professional jazz singers performing.

This is the paradise for our gang, our friends and families.

Pros: lots of entertainment

Overpriced and Overrated

by jwong120

On the recommendation of a coworker, a group of us went here for lunch. The service was sub-par, as our waiter just plopped the all you can eat menus on the table, then did the same when we asked for regular menus. The all you can eat sushi was as my coworker called it "over-riced" and limited in selections, for the price of $12.95. The tobiko sushi was just a ball of rice that was lightly flaked with tobiko.
I wouldn't recommend it unless you can really eat and love rice.

Pros: Food was tasty

Cons: Service was sub-par and food was overpriced for what it was.

Feeling Like Donald Trump and have his money

by FeelinglikeDonaldTrump

We had a large dinner for my work here in the city. Every single dish I tried on our group dining menu was great. The service was fantastic. I also love the decor and bar in this restaurant. Good service and not too pushy...they are well trained. A little on the expensive side for casual dining, but worth it for the quality of food, and excellent value as Japanese. I have been to Japan and this is on par with food I had there! I have also heard good things about this famous restaurant from friends in Ohio and Illinois.

Pros: Great authentic Japanese food, good service
Cons: A little crowded and loud on the weekends

From the support of neighbourhood regulars, businss diners, and gastronomic tourists to numerous community and media accolades, Daioh Sushi has earned a special place in Chelsea, NYC's culinary landscape. With strong roots in the neighborhood, Daioh has plans to replicate the restaurant's concept to neighbouring states. Daioh Sushi has indeed embraced the food and philosophy of sushi to excellence. Guests walk past the large glass window showcase, eager to snag a table and savor the largest varieties of Sakes in Chelsea.

There is no such thing as perfection, nevertheless, Daioh is definetely doing its best.

Pros: Great value and savings

Best Ever

by owenchang

My best friend recommended the place before. When my girlfriend and I have no idea where to go for dinner, my friend's advice comes to mind. We were seated at the window. What a scenic view. The food was so awesome and the ambiance was so good. Great service. My grilfriend was telling me to come back every week.

Pros: best food ever

Cons: no parking

Worst Imitation Japanese Ever

by amylani

I am a Japanese-Chinese-American female, born and raised in NYC. I've eaten at a lot of good and bad places, but this one has got to be the worst I've had in a while. I admit I can be picky about Japanese restaurants, but my experience here was so incredibly awful that I felt compelled to share it.

1) The waiter didn't care that the meat in my soup was actually OLD and BAD. It was sour and covered with a weird jelly-like coating (which I think was the result of it congealing when frozen). He just told me it was pork, and that it's tendon. I know what bad meat looks/smells like, and I know what tendon is. And that was definitely NOT the case.

2) My noodles were made with a bland chicken broth, not a Japanese broth at all. It had nothing but Chinese vegetables (snow peas, carrots, broccoli, bamboo shooots), and the whole experience was the epitome of what happens when Chinese people try to open a Japanese restaurant and fail.

3) I found what looked like a clear BITE taken out of my carrot. I am convinced that they reuse food, but I of course have no evidence to prove that.

Is that not enough? I shared a sushi roll with my friend and it was edible but not very good.

Pros: Location (close to my office)

Cons: Everything else?

My FAVORITE sushi spot

by daveben00

a2d is completely out of his/her mind. I live around the corner and order from Daioh at least twice a week. The sushi is always fresh, bountiful and tasty. The delivery is at my door before i hang up the phone. The gen mai cha green tea is amazing and has opened up a new world of flavor for me. Their miso soup is better at the restaurant because they put too much seaweed in the delivery orders but that is about my only complaint at all. The staff is very nice and the eat in experience is pleasant. You will not be disappointed.

Pros: fresh sushi, superhuman fast delivery

Cons: too much seaweed in the delivery miso soup

great food

by silverdragonia

With so many japanese restaurants in the area, it's hard to choose which one to eat at. I tried this place once and was hooked. Their food is fresh, well prepared, and hasn't let me down yet. The service is decent, and the prices are pretty reasonable. The ambiance is great, not overdone, very relaxing. They also have great lunch specials.

Pros: fresh food, relaxing environment, great lunch specials
