I have been going to Jorge Luis at Prive ever since I moved to the city four years ago. It was by a recommendation I went there and have not been anywhere else since. It is so hard to find consistent talent, even in NYC but Jorge does it.

I have been to some of the best salons in New York and San Francisco and I have to say the best hair stylist is Patricia at Prive. As a beauty industry executive, how you look is essential. I get great compliments about my hair which is a true endorsement. I??d say she is more like a creative artist, and being a Brit, she really gets it. If you you want a quick cut, don??t go to Patricia, she gives individualized attention and takes her time, even a simple cut can last up to 90 minutes, so she??s into quality not quantity which is so rare these days. You feel pampered while she is doing your hair, and her focus is totally on your hair. She??ll meet with you first, find out who you are, what you want you and all the while making mental notes, before your hair is washed. Has an incredible eye with great technical expertise, and that she has developed over many years after extensive training from Vidal Sassoon and working with John Sahag. So yes, she gives a ??dry cut? most of the time and for those of you who don??t know what that is - it is the best type of cut you can get - and so few know how to do it. Now I really don??t have anything against the young stylists just starting out, but why take a chance - my hair is to important to take a gamble. Her hair cuts are easy to care for and yes, your hair looks just as good everyday as when it was first cut. The only down side is that she is a little pricey, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. There are so many great salons in NYC that may have a higher profile than Prive - but if you??re getting your haircut by the ??salon??s celebrity hair stylist? you may not get a great cut, after all, its not the salon, but the stylist that??s doing your hair!

Cons: takes awhile, a little pricey but worth it

Lionel Renard used his magic and was able to grasp the style I didn't know I was looking for.
From long hair to a short edgy yet elegant haircut, I came out of this salon a new "me"...a few highlights to enhance it all...never had as many compliments, a real ego boost :)
Bonus: Sexy humble french man with great conversation!!
Works great for bi-coastals : NY/ LA

Beautiful salon in the heart of SoHo. Jorge Luis was absolutely wonderful! He listened to what I wanted and made suggestions according to my face, hair texture and the look I was going for. The highlights he gave me are gorgeous- even other well known stylists have admired my hair noting how great the highlights look!! They look very natural and have enhanced my look- exactly what I wanted!! I highly recommend him!!

Prive Salon from Manhattan, their staff is Very professional. They listen what you want, they give you their opinion, everything and everybody works perfect there. I went to Cosmetics, and I had a very Good facial, there is a girl very sweet, and worm, Elena is her name, she works Saturdays and Sundays, but she know very well what she do. She did very well her job and I am so happy. I am planning to go again for waxing and for facial but I will request only her. I trust her. I have only good word about Prive Salon. Thanks them.

First time I went there, really to follow my stylist Donnie, who is a MASTER when it comes to styling/cutting hair. Love Love LOVEEEE him!!

J.C. who is a colorist, is great as well. She didn't realize that I had washed my hair that morning and I wasn't aware that one should have a "dirty" head when getting colored or else it will burn you. My fault but cant complain. Color came out great. She is super friendly.

All in all, the stylist and colorists all work well together, get along seemingly and makes the environment much better. Was not intimidated like I am in other salons. Over all...I found my head a new "home' to go to when it needs its maintenance.

I am new to town and was looking for a great salon. A coleague of mine referred me to an excellent Japanese stylist. I have to say that the stylist gave me an excellent trendy cut. I would love to go to him again. Although the reception was very unpleasant. When I walked in to check in, not one of the receptionists bothered to look up to notice me. I stood waiting until they were finished with whatever work they looked so busy looking down at their computers. Finally when someone noticed me, I was treated as if I were a problem and nuisance. Upon checking out I was treated in the same regard. This salon has extremley poor customer service. I also witnessed others being treated the same way.

Someone needs to write a realistic review of how unprofessional the reception desk is at Prive Salon. Not to mention there is talent in that salon but customer service is non existent. In a time when there are so many options around I am surprised they get the business they do. I was highly dissatisfied with the way I was greeted and treated while I was there. Not to mention I had this adorable French lady cut my hair, Frederique - she was really wonderful, but I will not go there again, due to the way the manager and her team went about. As I left the salon I could hear them referring to one of the clients in such a cruel and unprofessional manner that no business owner or operator should ever have to resort to that. I actually work for the press and will make sure that all my greatest friends know what they are up against, if they ever decide to enter that place.

i got the worst haircut at Prive Salon a couple of months ago, my hair still has not recovered from the fiasco.
i am a male, mid 40's and went just to get a little trim. the stylist was so poorly trained, he thinned out the front of my hair which was already thinning. the result, awful. i went back to my office after paying $75 plus a tip and had people asking me, what happened to my hair? others commented my hair (which was perfectly ok before this moron got his hands on it) if i was loosing my hair, looks like it is really thinning.
the consensus: they aren't properly trained there. i was going to call to ask for my money back i was so angry but decided to just let it go.

Another great haircut. Frederique is the only woman in New York that I trust with my difficult hair! I got to my appointment very late because the subways were all messed up (typical), but no one was mean or snippy about it. Frederique had to leave after she cut my hair, but Kelly blowdried it out beautifully. I always feel like the hottest girl in NY after coming out of Prive!

I have lived in Houston, Austin, D.C., Paris, and now I live in San Francisco. I am south asian and have massive amounts of curly, wavy, crazy (stylist worst nightmare) hair. Nobody could ever get it right and I always have awkward haircuts. I started going to Tristan when he worked in Paris and I was living there. After that I moved to San Francisco and could never find a stylist. Now, I wait until I am in NYC to get Tristan to cut my hair. He knows what looks good on you and what will work with your hair. Since he's new in town his rates are still fairly reasonable too.

My nails have never been the same after I received a manicure from Dana. I even took some of my girlfriends along the last time I went and they agreed; she had done such a great job. We were so disappointed to hear that she had left Prive. My girlfriends and I would love to have Dana back at Prive.

Okay, sorry I have to post, because I've been going to Asher for four years and I will never go to another stylist again. His cuts are the best I've ever gotten in my life (people stop me on the street to ask me where I get my hair cut), and I've referred most of my friends to him. Actually over dinner last week we were all sitting around gushing about how amazing his cuts are. I only have to get my hair cut once every three months because his cuts grow in so amazingly. Additionally, Prive is a great salon that never has an attitude, their staff is professional and attentive, but you definitely feel pampered while you are there. I highly recommend this salon, and especially Asher. (progressive stylists cut hair dry in order to really get the right look when your hair is actually how you wear it - dry. Asher has been cutting my hair dry for four years).

Okay, I've been to some great stylist and I'm always up for meeting more. But, after my last fav gave me a mullet (granted it was very "artistic"...ha, that's kinda funny) I knew I had to move on...I should've just told her no more mullets. I went to Ascher at Prive after a friend recommended him. She'd just gotten the cut the day before. I'm curious to hear what she has to say now about it. My hair looked fine at first, definitely nothing special but now it's like a light bulb and it's not getting better. I have great hair and usually I get great cuts to go along with it. To top it all off. I only get a cut once every 4 months. Yeah, my other stylists were that good. This is the first time in a long time where my friends just don't know what to say to me. At least with my stylish mullet my conservative friends were like, "no no no" but my sheik, trendy Brooklynites were in love. Now, not a word. He also cut my hair AFTER he dried and straightened it. What? My hair's never naturally straight. Made no sense to me and that trick certainly didn't work. I thought a good stylist was supposed to work with the natural wave of your hair. Weird. Yech, it's only been 6 weeks and I'm dying to get it cut again. Damn.

My barber barely spoke to me. He is so called because a "stylist" gets to know your wants, personality, and habits and then creates a style for you. I walked in really open and hoping for a lot of input from a knowledgable source who could tell me what would look and work best for me. He had zero bedside manner and was rough, and I walked out looking like any LA girl, that super flat-ironed look; I wanted something fresh and with body, not something that was chic five years ago. When I explained my frustration with his dismissive manner to reception, they were very nice about it, but that can't really make up for the bad cut.

Rude staff kept me waiting for 3/4's of an hour. Terrible hair color treatment and I could not communicate with the colorist who seemed to decide what she wanted to do and not what I had in mind. When I asked the hairstylist if he could trim more off the top I got an attitude that was rude and unacceptable. Overall my experience was bad especially when you consider what they charge. The people who work there look ungroomed and seedy. I would not recomend this salon to anyone who cares about their appearance.

I haven't been loyal to a stylist since my last one pulled was MIA 6 years again. I've been most of the expensive salons, I think I may have finally found my new stylist. I called Prive on Sunday at 4pm and secured an appointment for 4:30pm that same day (due to a cancellation, I didn't have to wait a week). I have long thick hair, I told Timothy I wanted to keep the length, but wanted it to look sexy, I had one rule, no razors, only scissors. I think he took about 2 inches off my entire head with layers and fringes in the front. The cut is great! I have very sexy hair with lots of movement. I've been complimented by strangers on the street and my fiancé loves to run his fingers through the layers. Definitely worth the money. I highly recommend him and the salon.

After an ex-stylist butchered my hair, I got a consultation with one of the hair extension specialists. She offered me a lot of options and seemed to be genuinely concerned with my budget and style. I eventually had her cut my hair and she SAVED it! Lots of small details and she listened to how I wanted my hair to turn out. I'm thankful to be a new PRIVE client. I don't like the reception staff, I know New Yorkers are supposed to be rude, but they're very unprofessional. But my stylist is awesome, and it seems as if everyone walks out happy.

I have long healthy natural hair and left with it razored (which I asked him specifically NOT to use) and looking like a rat chewed it off. The stylist was taking calls on his cell phone the entire time, and kept walking away from me. Never washed my hair, flat ironed it to cut it, then sheared it with the razor. I have never cried over a hair cut before. He just kept adding more product to grease it down. For someone known for her beautiful hair, this was devastating. Finally, he admitted it wasn't working and asked me to leave- his next customer was ready!!!
I will never set foot in that horrible sham of a salon again!!

Pros: Nice Space

Cons: , Worst Cut ever

.

If you ever want to get the best haircut ever, make sure you ask for him. He is a wonder! He also works with Eva, a wonderful colorist who will make you look 10 years younger :)

I had previously gone to Soon Salon in the East where I was butchered completely. I made an appointment two months later Prive and Asher fixed the do. It is expensive and I'm one to do tons of surfing and asking around before hand - this one is well worth it.

After a bad cut elsewhere, my husband called Prive and got me an appointment the same day, although I had never been there before. Joakin did a fantastic job, as evidenced by the huge number of post-cut compliments I have received. The service was great. The cost is high, but now I can style my hair with my fingers and I look 10 years younger. Delightful place.

Prive is a well-run establishment. Considering the celebrity clientele and high prices, the staff was very friendly and down to earth. I've been to the Madison Avenue Salons (John Barrett, Fekkai) and found their staff to be snobby and pretentious. At Prive, the stylist introduced herself, looked at the texture/cut of my hair, provided me with a few recommendations, then waited for my approval before going to work on my new look. It was exactly what she described and precisely what I expected. There's not much more a person can hope for when it comes to a good haircut (except lower prices).
