A memorable roadside stop along US-20.

by Rich J.

If you grew up during the 1950's and 1960's, no doubt you remember at least one family road-trip that was spent traveling along the highways of America in the family station wagon taking in the sights and attractions. In an age when the life expectancy of most cultural icons is measured in months, The Tepee stands as a visible reminder of a simpler time before Interstate highways covered the country and roadside icons like this were commonplace. The Tepee continues the tradition of offering the traveling public an opportunity to stop and "stretch their legs" while shopping for a variety of gifts and souvenirs in a relaxed "no- pressure" atmosphere. The Tepee celebrated it's 50th anniversary in 2000 and thanks to the dedication and hard work of its current owners, Dale and Donna Latella, it's not hard to imagine The Tepee being with us for another 50 years. And don't forget to try some of Tepee Pete's awesome homemade chili and a Buffalo Burger served up hot in his chow wagon right next door. Enjoy!

Ouch prices

by Thomas C. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,007

We stopped here on our way to the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame. The novelty of the building is what drew us in,. it's sahped like a really big 3 story Tepee. They have a nice selection of novelty gifts and the people were very freindly, but the prices were OUCH. Good for maybe that someone that has everything that you know.

Unusual

by Beth M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,462

When we were driving out to the local lake for beach day we passed The Tepee and just ahd to stop in. It's a HUGE Tepee shaped building on the main highway rout 20 between Sharon Springs and Cooperstown. They sell all kinds of native american gifts and music. The prices are a bit high, but since it's a speciatly gift shop you kind of expect that.
