great place for massages and facials

by KhannaP06

Probably the best technique for massages in the city.
I take massages and facials quite regularly and this one has the best technique ever... very upscale clean spa with outstanding massage therapists. Facials are also really great. Try it out !

Pros: Best technique for massages

Great Experience

by lorikan1

Was greatly impressed when I came in for a full spa day at Faina's. Each service was performed professionally and with great attention. The massage therapist gave me exactly the right Deep Tissue massage my muscles ached for. My skin felt soft! Loved the stream shower! And the girl who gave me my first Brazilian wax was very kind and talked me through it. Would come back soon!

Pros: Massage, Facial, Body Scrub, Wax

Cons: nothing

Excellent staff and services

by Amisha

I have went to lots of spas before, but this one beats it all. The environment is cute and cozy with soothing music and great staff. The staffs are very knowledgeable and know what they're doing which makes the experience even more invigorating. The massages, facials and body scrubs are all excellent. I love this place, plus they provide gift certificates. I highly recommend this place, it's an experience you will never forget.

Pros: Friendly staff, best facial

VERY RELAXING

by Anesa

I wanted to surprise my boyfriend with a visit to a Spa. I made an appointment for a 1 Hour Couples Massage. It was very romantic. There were flowers, candles, music and of course wonderful massages which were done in the same room. I loved every moment of it even afterwards when we had champagne and chocolates. We were in a small secluded area from the rest of the spa. Just the two of us. I will definitely be going back soon to try a Couples Package!

Highly overrated - DO NOT RECOMMEND

by Claire Dwy

I came here for Spa Week upon reading the general raving reviews. It is located in a convenient area in Columbus Circle in an apartment building. The absurd thing to first strike me is that they informed me to arrive 15 minutes earlier which I rushed to and did, but they did not place me in a room until 10 minutes after my appointment time. Not to also add that the entire service was entirely rushed. I got the scrub and massage which was supposed to be an hour long, but it was probably at most 35 minutes with the waiting. Also, I believe the woman is Faina, hence the owner of the spa, who was extremely rude and not personable at all. She barked at me and treated me condescendingly.

I did like the scrub which was invigorating with the hot shower, and it made my skin ultra soft but when factoring the other items in, this is by far the worst spa experience I have ever had. If you are looking to unwind in a relaxing environment, then this is not the place for you.

I will not come back nor will I recommend any friends to come here which is a shame since I go to school a few blocks away and would love to have a spa so nearby.

Pros: Nice scrub and massage

Cons: Overly rushed, rude receptionist, more waiting than services

Terrible Staff

by DeeDee200

I went here earlier this year because I received a gift certificate for a spa package. The actual spa treatments were great. I had a great massage and facial. However, the attitude of the staff and animosity between them was uncomfortable, unprofessional and it ruined my experience there. Otherwise, I would have given this place a top rating. The staff was unfriendly and rude to me and to each other. A staff member who was an older lady scolded a younger staff member in front of me and other customers. I would not go back to this place and I do not recommend it because even though the actual treatments were great, the environment was awful. It felt like they acted as though they were doing me a favor by performing their services even though they were getting paid to do so. I hope the staff as been changed since I've visited....

Pros: Spa treatments. Massages are great.

Cons: Staff's attitude. Hostile and uncomfortable environment.

Very Disappointing

by lai899

I went for a seaweed mask and liked it so I decided to book a champagne facial for spa week. I was disappointed especially since I liked the seaweed mask and expected the facial to be just as good. My facial started 30 minutes after the scheduled time, no explanation was given until they actually brought me into a room and I questioned why the person I requested was not there. That was finally when they told me that she was out sick. Ok fine, thats not entirely their fault, but I would've expected them to tell me when I first arrived instead of keeping me waiting clueless. The facial itself was ok, I felt as if she spent more time massaging my face and keeping the mask on rather than the extractions themselves. Extractions is the main reason I get facials, and for her to skimp on them I was disappointed. She even suggested during the facial that I should get another facial since they were cheap for spa week in another week or so if my face still wasnt clean. Why should I need to get another facial in a week, if you performed the facial well? At checkout it was very obvious that I was not satisfied so the owner justified the shortage of extractions by saying that you can't do many extractions because of the risk of infection. I was hoping I would find a new place to get facials but sadly this wasn't the case.

Pros: nice masks

Cons: not professional, facial didnt meet me expectations

Fantastic experience

by Imperfect Angel

I did one of their summer specials, where I got a 60 min full body massage, spa facial, aromotheraphy hand treatment, and a spa pedicure, then I also threw in a spa manicure. Very reasonably priced compared to other places and great service. The champagne and chocolate at the end capped off a really wonderful day. The treatment was only scheduled for 3 hours, but I ended up staying almost 4 hours, and was not rushed at all. The massage was absolutely fantastic, totally worked out tensions I had in my upper back/shoulder area and the masseuse was very attentive. The mani/pedi was also great. I forget her name (was from Israel), but she was extremely attentive and the spa treatment makes your skin so smooth. The facial and hand treatment were just okay, pretty much I could have done it myself at home, but overall it was a great experience and I would highly recommend Faina.

Pros: massage, mani/pedi

Cons: Facial was just okay

Great massage in NYC

by NYC Designer Girl

I have had numerous massages throughout the city, including at the Mandarin Hotel at the Time Warner Center. The massage I received here was far superior to the one at the Mandarin and the Peninsula. It comes down to the massage therapist, and Jeanne is one of the best here.

Pros: request Jeanne

Cons: request a room away from the nail area

Nice...

by chaserz1

Came in this weekend for a package. The place was decently packed for a Saturday. The treatments itself were relaxing and felt great. Did see some stress from front desk girl and workers concerning who will perform the services and the sequence of them. Evidently, she was in a nervous state and could have used more hospitality measures. Could have been less pushy with the tip as well....did not need a "lesson" on how to tip in nyc. Checking out and in was stressful but the services I had made up for it. Worth a try.

Pros: treatments

Cons: stressful vibe from workers?

BEST COUPLE MASSAGE!?

by SheriseG

My boyfriend has been pretty stressed out lately and since he's never had a massage, I thought it would be a great idea to get one together. Faina European Spa had great reviews, so I decided to give it a chance. The couple massages were amazing. I had Emily and my boyfriend had Mimi. They definitely worked all of the knots out of our backs. AND we had enjoyed champagne and chocolate together in a private area. My boyfriend and I fell in love with Faina European Spa! We will definitely be going back there!

by nygirl23

If you plan on going to this "Spa" I recommend looking at reviews on other sites besides Citisearch. While the staff is nice, the "Spa" and I put this in quotation because I don't believe it deserves to be called this type of facility.

Cons: Facility is small and lacking cleansiness
the services rendered are not done professionally
Walls are paper thin, you can hear everything
The staff is very disorganized in how they handle sequence of appointments and how they perform the procedures.

Pro's: The staff is nice

I would not come back to this facility again.

Pros: Nice Staff

Cons: Everything else

My friend and I had appointments today. I was waiting for 10-15 min, but the receptionist offered me some tea and showed me the magazines, so I was entertained. I have to tell you, the services I received were worth waiting for. Receptionist led me to the room where I received scrub and body massage treatments. Decoration of the spa is not that exciting, but the overall feeling was excellent. My friend also enjoyed her facial. Her skin looked amazing. I will definitely come back.

I was surfing on city search 4 months ago and came across to this place on city search, because it's very close to my place, so I decide to try it out. After looking at my skin (combination/oily), Faina recommended me to do a series of Glycolic acid with periodic cleaning. Through these treatments, my skin is really a loooot better than before! I get to see the improvement from each treatment and I am so impressed! so is my boyfriend~ everyone should give Faina a shot and you will be amazed!

Feel like a million bucks after a visit to Faina!

by suzyshep

I've been a regular at Faina's since a friend bought me a gift certificate as a birthday present almost six years ago. I'd never been to a day spa before, and after that day I was hooked. The rooms are clean and cozy, the front staff is always kind and helpful, and the technicians--there aren't enough words to describe their thorough, professional, and considerate treatments and attention to detail. I am always so relaxed after a couple of hours spent having Faina herself or one of her colleagues give me a facial, I feel like a new woman, with skin that just glows. The prices are truly reasonable (and there's always seasonal specials for new and regular customers to enjoy), the location is perfect and mass-transit friendly, and there's great food and shopping nearby, so visitors to Faina can make a whole day out of the trip--I often do!

Pros: calming environment, mass-transit friendly, natural products

Cons: parking options are limited

Be wary of the reviews for this SPA

by guppeeh

Look at the 5 stars with gleeming feedback. A little too good, yes? Click on the "reviewers" and many are new accounts that only reviewed this SPA. Fishy? I think so.

No evidence that Faina is directly involved in writing their own reviews but you should be careful.

Good luck.

BEST Experience EVER!

by spagirlnyc

I went to this spa last week with my daughters. It was my first time there and in a Spa in general. I just would like to share with the experience I had so that people can get an idea what it feels like to be pampered. As soon as we came in the receptionist took our coats. They provided us with the robe, slippers and all the other necessary stuff. I had a package (don't remember the name of it) ? with several services included. They started with mani and pedi which I really enjoyed. While the technician was doing my nails, Elina, the receptionist, offered me and my kids their special herbal tea ?it tasted sooooo good.. After that I had a massage. The therapist worked on the spots that were bothering me the most. After that terrific massage I thought I could fly! And the main thing is that it was the first experience in a spa not only for me, but for my little girls as well. They were a bit scared in the beginning, but the staff made them relax and they really enjoyed the treatments. The rooms are cozy and clean, music and atmosphere make you forget about everything in the world!!! I would definitely recommend this spa to my family friends who really need to be pampered.

by Lizzy233

I truly enjoy my visits to Faina's European Spa. The body scrubs and body massages are reeeeaallly GREAT!!! It's like the massage therapist knows all the right spots to work on. My mom and I love to do a mother and daughter thing by getting one of Faina's spa packages, especially the facials. I used to have problematic skin and ever since I've been getting their facials and peels, it's like I have perfect skin now, Marina and Fay are the best!!! They are very helpful and Faina herself is wonderful. I've been going to Faina for some time now. I've recommended this spa to my friends when they come from out-of-town and they just adore a relaxing spa day.

Customer service?

by shannondanielle

I was given a $100 gift certificate for my birthday. I chose the spa pampering package (body scrub, massage, facial, and lunch). I reserved the appointment with my credit card but informed the receptionist that I would be paying for my package with the gift certificate and cash. Without taxes and tips, this package cost $269. I was very excited about going to this spa. The two women who gave me the facial and body treatments were excellent, very professional, and friendly. The only sore point was when I was about to take off my robe to receive my facial. This older women (who was at the front desk) entered the room and she asked me if I was going to pay the difference between the gift certificate amount and the price of the package. I was insulted. Of course I was going to pay the difference; I can count. Did she actually think that I thought a $100 gift certificate would be enough to cover the cost of this package? What kind of question was that? Although I enjoyed the spa package; I won't be returning to that spa.

Pros: Ambience, employees giving the facials, massage, etc.

Cons: Lacking customer service skills

Please avoid

by jenman2

A bunch of us girls booked the place based on citysearch reviews. It was much smaller than we expected. They do not have enough rooms for us, and we were ushered from one room to another like cattles. One of the rooms were divided using screens which you can see through between the panels. No privacy at all!!! The floors were not cleaned between clients and there's only one small shower which lacks pressure (they called that steam shower). The food was prepared in the hallway and we were served in the reception area. To top it all, our gifts were cheap samples of nivia/olay moisturizers/body wash. One would expect, something a little more for the price they charge. Quite disappointed.

Pros: Relatively polite staff

Cons: Too expensive for what they offered.

Being very glad that they were able to book me last minute, I had a facial with Fay last weekend, who is an absolute genius in skincare. Everybody here is friendly and chatty. The receptionist, a young Russian girl was very pleasant to have ?girl talk? with and had recommended me an array of places to visit during my stay in NYC (I?m from VA). She personally suggested I try eyebrows threading for the first time with another worker, Ester; which is now on my agenda of things to do next time I visit NYC. Thank you!

Pros: the facial and the pleasantness

Independent Spa with Good Service... so so on cleanliness

by JerseyGirl120938

I went there for a getaway with my boyfriend for our anniversary. The place is small, but accommodating. The staff is relatively friendly. We weren't rushed and enjoyed ourselves. The shower facilities are basic and was not cleaned in-between clients... old wash clothes/shower products were visible on the floor. We were served chocolates and they reuse the same plate without washing.

The massage was good, pedicure was nice... but not 100% professional. Also, bring cash for the tip! You cannot add it to your cc.

I had the best time!

by serenella

Last week I decided to treat myself at Faina European Spa after a girls night talking about beauty, health and relax. I booked an appointment for a body massage, facial, manicure and pedicure. Everything was so easy and well done from the moment I called until I left the spa. When I arrived I was welcomed by a friendly, kind and smiling staff. They made me feel immediately comfortable and happy about my choice. Every treatment was just what I was looking for. I did realize how professional all the therapists are at this cozy and elegant place. The long magnificent body massage, the perfect facial, manicure and pedicure... I felt a new person!
I will be back for sure and I will bring with me my husband - they also have a good selection of couples packages, not even expensive, plus special offers all the time - who also noticed right away how satisfied I was about my decision to invest some money to renew myself :)
I higly suggest Faina Spa absolutely to everybody!

Amazing Spa!

by emiliahart

This spa is very intimate and cozy! The atmosphere at Faina's is relaxing and comforted by the charming staff. My husband and I went here last Valentine's Day for one of their special packages for couples. The champagne rose scrub (which smelled excellent) and the body massage were done in the same room with lovely music and aromatherapy candles. Afterwards, we both received a clarifying facial and a manicure and pedicure. Than we were served champagne and chocolate in a private setting. I'd highly recommend this place for romantic getaways! In addition, I was pleased with their selection of skin products and picked out a wonderful anti-aging mask for myself. Very nice spa....perfect for relaxation!

Pros: skilled staff, intimate setting

Coziest Spa Ever

by sasi_me

I absolutely love this place! I have never been to a spa before so when I went to Faina's European Spa, I was a little bit nervous about what to expect. From the moment I rung the bell I was greeted with a cheerful hello. Aromatherapy candle scents filled the air and I relaxed a bit. The staff was really friendly and so inviting. My facialist guided me through the whole thing. She explained what she was going to do before she did it and afterwards she recommended some products to help improve my complexion. My visit to this spa ended way too soon! I cannot wait to book another appointment and go back for another visit! I highly recommend this spa to anyone looking to get away from the stress and the chaos of the noisy streets and crowded sidewalks of the city. Great for first timers looking to "ease" into the spa experience and excellent for couples who are looking for a quiet, cozy and relaxing evening together!

Pros: very friendly and highly professional staff

Worst spa experience ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by jchelsea

I have been to spas all over the world and thought I would give this one a try after the good reviews I read. Do not go to this spa! When I arrived my appointments had been erased from the book, with the receptionist claiming I had not confirmed, which I indeed had! Next, I was shuffled into a room where one of the staff told me she would be giving me my facial. She never introduced herself and spent the whole time telling me how I should use better more expensive products to clean my "delicate skin" rather than explaining the process and products she was using. My next treatment was a body scrub. The same staff person brought me to the new room which was merely divided from an adjoining room with a sliding partition. After my scrub, she showed me to the shower and proceeded to give me a hand towel to dry my whole body!!! Plus, I had no new robe and had to use the one covered in body scrub salt to make my way back to the treatment room for a back rub. The back rub was the best part, but only lasted 20 minutes. The absolute worst part of the experience was when it came time to pay. When I booked my treatments I specifically asked if I could use a spa wish gift certificate for payment during spa week. The person who booked my appointment said it would be no problem. Well I guess things change after they rope you in and offer you no choice in the matter. When it came time to pay the receptionist insisted they have a clear policy, on their website that they cannot accept gift certificates for specials. When I asked her to show me that on their website or any where in writing, she could not produce anything. When she called the manager I could hear the condescension on the other line. This was an absolutely terrible experience which left me more stressed than relaxed. DO NOT GO HERE.

Friendly, relaxing atmosphere

I rarely splurge and "pamper" myself, so when I do I like the whole experience to be easy and satisfying. At Faina I felt very relaxed and well taken care of. All the employees were friendly, helpful, and patient even though I was obviously not a big spender or a frequent customer. My spa facial was luxurious and well worth the money (which wasn't even too bad for NYC).

Pros: customer service
