I had to go here for one of my art classes and found The American Museum of Natutral History to be AWE-mazing. I took one of the kids I babysit for and he LOVED the dinosaur exhibits (what??s not like about it?it is huge and almost unbelievable how massive these creatures were).

We both had a wonderful experience and now every time I see him, he wants to go back and see the ??dimo-saurs?

During our family vacation to New York last year we spent an entire day at the Museum. For a family with grade school aged children it is hard to imagine a better family excursion. Both kids and parents alike particularly loved the Dinosaur and Egyptian exhibits. A lifetime family memory for us took place at this Museum.

This is a massive museum. You need at least two days to see everything there. My favorite exhibits are on th dinosaur floor. There are platforms that you can walk on to get differnt views of the bigger dinosaur bones on display. There are also computers there that tell you more about the dinosaurs such as where they lived, what they might sound like, and how they moved. The only things that I don't really like about themuseum is that you have to pay extra to see certain exhibits. There was a butterfly exhibit there a couple years ago. That exhibit was worth the extra money since you actually saw live butterflies, but it's not worth it to just see non-animate objects.

For tourists or anyone who lives in New York City, the American Museum of Natural History or abbreviated as AMNH is a world-class museum. Just located right off Central Park, you can take the AC, BD line to get to this museum.

You can purchase tickets on the main-floor or in the annex to the train-station in the bottom of the museum. The 4th floor, is entirely dinosaurs and it is one of the main attractions in the museum.

The 2nd and 3rd floors have longer prevalence in the museum. On the 3rd floor or some area of the 2nd floor, there are unique exhibits that stay at the AMNH for a limited time.

Everyone should appreciate the AMNH!

There are replicas of dinosaurs that will entertain children of all ages. All the dioramas are nicely made to show the lives of those that lived in prehistoric times. There is also a planetarium and a collection of rocks. The planetarium is amazing showing the stars and planets. There is a Native American section with artifacts. The admission is suggested.

One of the best places to go in the city. The dinosaur exhibit is really amazing (the Blue Whale exhibit is also something every child should see).
Just be sure to take the E, which runs local - not the A, C which will end you up in the Bronx. Also the animals are just so incredibly cool to see! Right now they have an amazing tropical butterfly exhibity. Don't miss it.

The Museum of Natural History is truly a treasure of New York City. I have been there many times since childhood and never become tired of the all within it from the amazing collections of stones and minerals to the amazing rebuilt fossilized dinosaurs that tower above. Whether you have a child or not, this is a Museum to visit and learn.

PROS: nice place for families
CONS: no designated parking areas

whatever you age you can find something you are interested in .. I always loved the dinsoaurs.. of course many school children go here on field trips it is good to take your kids here.. because on school trips you never have enough time to see everything pick a day spent it with your child and share some memories that you have had about this museum.

The American Museum of Natural History is a great place to spend a day. The museum is located right across the street from central park at 79th street. The admission price was around $25 for two of us, and that was with the space exhibit. It is easy to get around, and the exhibits are interesting to look at. The place was very easy to manage with a stroller, which was important for us.

There were A LOT, and I mean A LOT of school children. I have no problem with this, just be advised that this is the atmsophere.

I'd highly recommend a daytrip to the history museum.

This is a great place to spend the day! AMNH is open from 10am - 5:45pm and although we came around noon, we were not able to see everything; however, we were able to see the majority of it. I must admit that a lot of the space seemed a bit old in regards to many of the displays looking a bit antiquated. But I was pleasantly surprised that the African Mammals section, Biodiversity and Ocean life areas were very modern looking. I loved the dinosaur exhibits as well. I think that this is a must see but that people can be a bit bored by portions of the museum that appear less updated. I think that by starting at the main floor and moving up through the space, you will be able to get through some of the areas that are tougher to enjoy to areas such as Mammals of NY State and NYC. But overall, this is a great way to spend an afternoon. For those that are older, I suggest visiting during the fall when many of the school children tend to have gone back to school so you can really enjoy.

PROS: All day activity, reasonably priced
CONS: In the summer many children and school groups

This is a great museum. I am not an avid museum goer, but I have to admit how great this place is. It is not an art musem, but rather a museum of nature and animals. Not everyone can appreciate art with all the interpretations and symbolism. This is what makes this museum different, people do not have to think to enjoy it. You can just wander around and look at all the different type of species that roamed this earth.

This is a great place to learn about dinosaurs. Kids will definately like this museum more than any other ones in New York City.

if you want to see dinosaur bones the american museum of natural history is the place to go. not only do they have this terrific collection, but i love their other collections on world cultures. they will have so many different things from that culture. for example in the china collection they had a chinese wedding caravan. they also have some live animals in the reptile collection. the only thing i don't like about this museum is that you have to pay extra for their special exhibitions.

I LOVE anything to do with Ancient Egypt....the pygmies of Africa...dinosaurs...and other ancient artifacts reminiscent of times past. A cheap and funway to spend the afternoon amidst the hustle and bustle of Manhattan.

This is a great museum. IT is so big and has lots of exhibits and things to do. The stores are expensive but do have some little things that you can buy as souvenirs. The dinosaur displays are truly amazing. They have a theater that shows a movie about Mars and it feels like you are really flying through space. My son loved it. When we were there there were a number of exhibits going on including an exhibit about baseball. There are multiple halls and tours so there is something that everyone will like.

PROS: A lot to do and see.
CONS: There is so much to see that it takes a long time to get through it all.

A wide variety of things, and the rennovations and updates they have been doing continue to impress us. The relatively new reopening of the aquatic life section shows, as well as the rennovation a few years ago of the dinosaur exhibit, that the museum is dedicated to showing the latest in scientific exhibitions. Something for all ages.

From the moment you see this building that looks like it belongs in a history book with it's turrets and towers you know you are in for a outstanding experience inside these group of buildings.

Here, inside those walls you will find millions of items on display from the smallest microisms to the most popular exhibit, the huge skeletal remains of the biggest creatures to have walked the earth, the dinosaurs.

It never ceases to amaze me as I walked though this and all this exhibits of this musuem. It's a do not miss experience and one to come back to again and again

PROS: Will amaze and delight children and adults of all ages
CONS: none

The sheer size of this place makes you come back time and time again. I really like the animal exhibits from all the continents and the huge dinosaur bones. I like to really read some of the information on just a few of each exhibit - each plaque is full of unique information that you probably won't find anywhere else.

PROS: They've got everything
CONS: You don't have time to see it all

The dinosaurs have me in awe - the souvenir shop has been a favorite since I was a little girl! This is the one museum that I am ALWAYS up to go to! The only drawback is the price - it's a little steep... but worth it on occasion!!

I have been to this museum many times, and each time is exciting. There is a small fee, but it is really just a "donation," so you don't have to pay the fee if you don't want to. I always pay though, as it supports the museum. There is so much to do here, that you can't possibly visit all the exhibits in one day. There is the planetarium, the dinosaur bones, a space show which is awesome, all types of animal fossils, and artifacts from Africa, Asia, India, etc....A visit here is truly an enlightening and fulfilling experience.

Most New Yorkers do not go to the Museum of Natural History nearly enough. And when they do go, they probably look at all the wrong things. If you go, you should avoid all the high-tech new exhibits and go straight to the rooms with the dead animals in glass cases. These animals have been here for hundreds of years and I live in fear that one day they will be removed to make way for more new, high-tech exhibits.

The American Museum of Natural History was established in 1869 in a world very different from today's. Even by the late 19th century, we did not have a firm knowledge of many of Earth's land regions and oceans, the diversity of cultures outside of western societies, and the essential history and organization of life on Earth. Darwin's revolutionary Origin of Species had been published only ten years before. It would be 30 more years before the structure of the atom would be revealed and the laws of heredity disclosed, 40 years before Einstein would share his theories of relativity, and 132 years before the entire three billion nucleotides of the human genome would be mapped. This facility is very attractive towards tourists visiting from across the USA and Canada and is one of New York City's greatest attractions when it comes to learning the history modern art and prehistoric times, etc.
