My boyfriend made reservations at Savoy ion Saturday night n hopes of a nice dinner. The best part of our experience was getting seated and being given menus promptly upon arrival. After that, we waited, and waited, and watied almost 30 minutes for even a glance from our waitress before deciding to leave, at which point our she actually asked us if there was a problem. Amazingly enough, she was oblivious that a 30-minute wait was unacceptable. On our way out, we asked to see the manager, were told he would be right down and--you ugess it--waited again for about 5 minutes before we'd had it. DO NO GO TO SAVOY!

So I had reservations at Gotham Bar & Grill for Valentine's Day, but balked in the end because of the high price for the prix fixe. I chose Savoy based on internet recommendations and reviews, although I had never been to the restaurant before. Before I go into the experience, please understand that I have been to a fair amount of NYC restaurants and consider myself well versed in the NYC scene.

I made a 6pm reservation a month prior, which I was told was the only one available. When my girlfriend and I got there, the place was 40% full until about 7pm. There was no music to fill the scene, the place was small and the ambiance was disappointing. The food was decent, but nothing to even write up about. Portions were small and although cooked well, I will not remember what I had in two weeks from now. Service was ok, our glasses and silverware were dirty, and the tables and chairs were dinky.

When we first arrived there were about 15 minutes where I wanted to get up and leave and try my luck somewhere else without a reservation. For a $300 meal (which was honestly worth about $100) I could have gone to many of the finer establishments in NYC. Please do not let their self-recommendations on the internet fool you. This is a below-par restaurant putting up a false facade. Save your money for somewhere worth remembering. I feel like I was duped and am very, very disappointed.

Pros: Nice fireplace upstairs, vanilla creme brule was good

Cons: very bad value

My #1 place to celebrate a fancy event - I've been here for graduation and for anniversaries (yes, that's plural because this place is soooo good that I will go as often as possible). It is pricey, no question but for a special event it is perfect - small and romantic, it feels like a real high end culinary experience. Love the duck in particular.

When our movie at the Angelika was "moved" to the Village East who at 1:30 was not answering the phone we stumbled upon Savoy for lunch. The menu looked promising. We started with a cabbage soup with a julienne of apples and fennel. A sickly bowl of broth arrived that tasted like pepper with a micro sliver of apple on top.Recession is here, not famine. My friends bluefish was over-spiced as was my duck sandwich. Our waiter brought desert menus, but upon discovering that the neighboring table was from his birthplace of Hawaii, we were forgotten. We waited at least 15 minutes for him to finish reminiscing with his new found friends only to order a very mediocre dessert. When the movie theater finally answered the phone, our film would not be shown for two more days. what a day!

I had had a very long day. My girlfriend and I had decided to go someplace we'd never been. We happened along Savoy and sat for dinner around 7:30 on this particular Sunday evening. We were led upstairs to a quaint corner table overlooking the intersection below.
We ordered a hearty meal as to repress the stresses of the day. I usually never order a soup as an app but took the chance and was won over by the cream of garlic and pork sausage. Plenty of flavor and was paired well with a glass of white wine by the manager. The lady had delightful watercress, strawberries and pork belly, an refreshingly interesting combination.
We followed that with the house recommended duck and the suckling pig. Both entrees were superb and finished off with bottle of red (that the restaurant owners produce or own themselves). I so very pleased with the service, the descriptions, and the food that I have made the effort to go back several times since. Keep up the good work.

Cannot even believe what I just experienced. I ordered a $15 glass of Pinot Noir. Turned out it had chunks of cork in it. I asked for another glass, and the bartender actually argued with me, He thought it was a problem that I didn't enjoy picking cork out of my wine. Finally decided to pour me another glass, but I got charged for the corked glass as well (even though I only took 2 sips from it). The manager also didn't see an issue here. Never in my significant experience of eating out (all over the world) have I experience this sort of indifference and attitude. No need for it in a place that has so many other options. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!

I've eaten here once after several people recommended the place. We showed up about 5pm. Around 5:45 pm, some kid decided to throw our bill on our table (we didn't ask for it and were only 1/2 way through our meal, which had been placed on our table less than 10 mins earlier). Then the kid came by and checked the bill every couple mins (3 times until I had to finally tell him to back off). He said that there was a shift change and went back to tell his coworkers that he was "waiting on our table." We didn't even get to ask for another drink or dessert.

I felt bad for this kid because I overheard him say to another patron that he had just came from MN ot NYC or something. We still tipped him much better than he deserved and looking back I think this was a mistake. We should have made it obvious that this is not appropriate because ultimately it was the restaurant's fault that shift changes effect service in this way, and a good manager would never have let this happens. SO, given that the food was ok, I wouldn't outright condemn this place. But I've written it off, and the only think I have to say about it is that the service was disrespectful and lacking.

Pros: Decent food

Cons: Abhorrent service

Terrible! I ordered the suckling Vermont Pig... the thing/part of pig (if you can call it that) that surrounded the roulade was tough and fatty. The inside meat was chewy and not flavorful. The service was sweet, but unattentive, and had no idea that I hated my food. I've been to a lot of restaurants and I'm fed up with paying a lot of money for horrible food! Where are all the good restaurants????

Cod dish tasted like burnt rubber, even the potato crust! Fellow diners somewhat enjoyed their meals of the persian chicken and tuna. Mushroom appetizer mediocre. Brussels sprouts and roasted beets sides were good. Did not live up to expectations, although the service was great.
Chocolate cake was good.

I took my sister who was visiting from out of town to Savoy. Both of our entrees were served cold and the chicken was even undercooked. The appetizers were utterly abysmal and the service was sub par. I couldn't have been more disappointed with a dining experience.

Unfortunately I had really high hopes for this restaurant. The reviews on Citysearch and Zagats were both positive. I have never been so disappointed. The meals (for the entire five person dinner party) were all bland, unimpressive and horrible. On top of that, the service was untimed and inexcusable. We had appetizers before drinks. We had entress within 20 minutes of sitting down. For a meal that you looked forward to for a week and paid hundreds for, this is JV. Inexcusable.

haven't been here in a while. but I seem to remember liking it more before they renovated. But it's still nice. It's warm and comfortable and you can have a nice meal.

This is the third time i've been to savoy and i'll start with what its not - not a true date place, not a place for hipsters, not a cheap'n'cheerful spot. Oh but what it is....delicious food. Sparkling ingredients. Top wines (the lower priced wines are lovely and decent value....the upper are out of your bracket but go find someone with an expense account.) This restaurant manages to comfortably tread that thin line between east village foodie (hearth, prune) and big soho institution (balthazar, raouls). To be fair, you are paying for it - but its money well spent.

I took mom and the family to Savoy for Mother's Day... by accident. (We had reservations for another restaurant and just came for some wine.) We were seated at an intimate corner table on the second floor which differs greatly from the hustle and bustle of the first floor. The wait staff was very attentive and served us some excellent wines and appetizers. We canceled our other reservations and stayed there. We did not know American Cuisine could be so delicious. The unpretentious yet cozy ambience is reminiscent of the types of restaurants you would perhaps find in New England. This is truly one of the few hidden gems to be found in New York City.

Pros: Food , Attentive Staff, Overall Value

Cons: Not a date place

Savoy is a rather exquisite establishment with an eclectic drink selection and a distinctive food offering. The staff was extremely helpful and accessible. The only drawback is that when I and my date started getting a bit romantic (nothing over the top, mind you), our waiter made an obnoxious comment about it to the bartender. Otherwise, a very nice place and gets my recommendation despite my usual nitpickiness.

After reading the reviews here, I decided to try. Made 830pm reservations on a Saturday night that morning. Showed up on time, sat us immediately. Service was very friendly, just a bit too slow... not a bad thing, gave us time to talk over/after dinner. The steak (flatiron I think) was very good, cooked perfect to order. I wouldn't call it too romantic, but very nice. Two entrees (around 28 each), one glass of wine, one coke, and one double expresso was approx. $80. You decide if a NY value or not... I personally thought I'd break the 100 mark, happy not to.

I had lunch at Savoy last week and sat near Kate Winslet! The food was excellent and the service professional, despite a very full dining room. I thought the value was good, considering the neighborhood. Savoy's been in Soho for 15 years, so they must be doing something right! I will go back very soon.

Maybe it was because of all the hoopla that Savoy is one of the most romantic restaurants that my expectations in this direction were not met at all. Overall, this is a nice place with good but overpriced food - but nothing too exiting. Despite reservation we had to wait and the promising question about the name of the birthday person obviously had no specific intention as well as the question for an extra nice table.

Savoy is a gem of a place. Delicious, creative, FRESH food that is well prepared and served. Servers are wonderful. Helpful and attentive without being obtrusive. The setting is cozy and intimate and everybody who works there is so helpful and friendly. Bartender is generous with the wine tastings. A wonderful place a nice night out to treat yourself as it is a bit spendy. Overall, a truly delightful experience.

Overall I felt Savoy was just another average place. There was nothing really special about it, or anything to make it stand out in my mind. Food wasn't bad and service was ok. For desert we had the Creme Brule, I dont recommend it. Would I return? Maybe as a last resort or out of boredom.

Visited Savoy w/ my boyfriend on a Saturday. We arrived at 8:00 for our 8:45 reservation. We let the very kind hostess know we were there and had some drinks at the bar. We were sat at 9:05 for our 8:45 reservation. We didn't have a problem with that, but we were annoyed when another couple came in at 8:55 and were seated immediately. We asked the host, who was very snooty, and he told us that the other couple had an 8:30 reservation. I believe it would have been good business if we were sat before the other couple, since they were 30 minutes late for their reservation. That incident set the mood for the night. We ate our meal quickly and left, which was delicious, but for the price, the portions were small.

Service: nothing spectacular; we received warm water, but that was the only problem we encountered.

This place is out of this world. Terriffic wine list with a small selection of fabulous wines; outstanding appatizer menu; incredible entres; and delicious desserts...all with service that is incredibly friendly and not snooty in the least. Go here, go here, go here. If you're with friends looking for an incredible meal or if you're with your loved one and looking for romance. Go here. If you're a conservative who loves chain restaurants, please don't come to NYC...go to Atlanta or some crap city like that.

The place is louder and less intimate than it was years ago. Don't get me wrong. It's a good place for a dinner date or to catch up with someone you haven't seen in over six months. The entrees (grilled salmon and pork loin) are tasty and the service was spot on. I can't recommend one dish over the other. What I do recommend is you blow through dinner as fast as possible to get to the chocolate truffle tart on the dessert menu! The combination of the chocolate and pistachio ice cream brought a tear to my eye. Absolute bliss!

If this is New York's most romantic restaurant, they are in trouble. The food was average at best. The lamb was salty and they didn't have a strong wine list that a 4 star restaurant should have. After spending over 150 dollars for a three course meal, I know now that I can get better dinners in most other cities. Try L'Ecole restaurant for a better meal and a more romantic atmosphere which is easier on your wallet.

I had the striped bass with 2 scallops and it was delicious. However, it was too small for its price. The place was too small too. We were very excited to dine here, however after we entered the restaurant it wasn't as impressive as others have written here. Decorations were mediocre. Nothing really fancy. The bar was in the middle of the room, fireplace had candles inside. Everything here was small. The only big thing was our check. the menu has no price list. So it's a little confusing when you receive your bill. It was nice to try this place as it had high rating and excellent editorial, nonetheless, i will not be back.

I dont know why no one ever remembers Savoy when making plans with friends! It is a great place to relax and unwind to the tune of wine and good food. Slightly pricey, but totally reliable. Good background music doesn't drown you out and noise level is buzz as well. Strongly recommend, very cozy and fun - good combo!

The dinner tonight at Savoy I had with close friends ranks high on my list of restaurants. The space was intimate and charming. While I did like the food (the duck sausage was superb, as was the catalan steak, and sephardic chicken), the service is to be commended and lauded. Not once were we rushed through dinner. All courses were perfectly paced, such that we were able to enjoy our traditional holiday season dinner in a leisurely three hours). Our server (who was quirky and charming) was attentive to detail and brought us a free dessert when he noticed one of the desserts wasn't well liked. I aim to be a returning patron.

Went for our anniversary 2 weeks ago. Not as romantic as the ratings state. I had the prix fixe dinner for $60. Everything was overstated and written by professional copywriters. The shrimp appetizer was 1, yes 1 shrimp. The soup was about 1/3 cup. The beef was extremely fatty. The dessert, I must admit was the highlight of the meal. Husband had the chicken and was underwhelmed. I would not go back, especially at a price tag of $100(+) for 2. Service was also lack-luster. They're trained to sell the menu but not the food.

Pros: desserts

Cons: rest of meal, service, not "that" romantic

Very warm ambiance. Great service. Fresh, savory food. Menu changes weekly!

A friend took me here for my birthday. The waitress was excellent and took great care of us. We shared a bunch of appetizers and they were fantastic. Interesting wines by the glass too. The entree was good but did not compare to the apps. We sat there for nearly 4 hours and never felt rushed. That made the high prices more palatable. I would only go again for a special occasion and when I need to relax and have privacy.

Newly renovated, the upstairs now houses more tables, and a warm, homey atmosphere - if your home were decorated with the utmost of taste and style.

The food is fantastic. The lamb chops made me melt - their lamb and pork is always fantastic, and the pastry chef - Amy - is a wonder.

Super-romantic, or a great place to sit and savor food and good conversation with friends.

This place has a real potential to be wonderful but it totally fell short of our expectations. We went for Valentine's Day expecting a warm, romantic environment - NOT! The service was terrible - our waitress didn't even say Hi - she just came over and asked us "Are you ready to order", never checked in on us to see how were doing, never smiled. And the upstairs dining area is so cute, but it is packed with so many tables it takes the romance out of the place. The food and wine list were good but this place is not all of that. If you feel like splurging once in a while, don't do it here.

Eventually tried this place. Was impressed with the decor. Service was good and so was food, but not great. Over-priced for what it was ....

This restaurant was fabulous, between the service being kind and courteous, to the food tasting fresh and delicious. An unfamiliar wine menu ended up having a magnificent Chianti that worked well with our food. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, especially since we were in the corner by the fireplace. Overall I would recommend, just no scallops as it is 10$ for two. That is there are just two scallops in the dish! Try the braised duck gnocchi, OUTSTANDING!

Savoy's recent remodeling has left the cozy upstairs just cold! While there's lots more space for more tables and bright lights, they seem to have lost their chef somewhere. The food was SO salty and that's all you can say for it, except for expensive. Too bad it's not what it used to be.

The food, the service, the ambiance...it's all incredible. I've yet to find anything to beat the Savoy. Creative dishes you couldn't begin to imagine (rutabaga ravioli, anyone?), and then crave forever after...

I don't understand all the negative reviews for this restaurant. My wife and I went for a special occasion and had a wonderful time. The food was excelent, the staff prompt and unobtrusive, and the whole place was just very nice. I would recommend it highly to anyone looking for a romantic dinner for two. Excellent. Bravo Savoy!

I had the misfortune of taking my new husband to Savoy for his birthday dinner last week. He tried the market menu, which included an over-minted ravioli appetizer and plain broiled chicken. My lamb, which I was told by the waitress was only served medium rare, was room temp, bland, and chewy. We each ordered overpriced glasses of wine for $10/glass; I've had much better wine for $7-$8/glass. I tried to find solace in a dessert, but none sounded appetizing, so I settled for a depressingly uninspired cookie plate. Savoy is overpriced and an embarrassment to SoHo.
