I have had three separate instances where I have checked the website and there was no mention of holiday closing, then I arrive and the center is closed. No sign even on the door. To be closed the Saturday before MLK day makes no sense. I would hope that the center can communicate better with their clients in the future

the counselors and doctors are the most kind, caring and compassionate professionals i have ever encountered in the medical field, and i work in it. i was treated like a human being, with respect, no judgements of any kind. they truly cared about my physical and emotional well-being. it was almost unbelievable to encounter such a team of true professionals.

Pros: professional, caring, warm staff

Cons: the wait is ridiculous

After finding myself unexpectedly pregnant, I panicked and booked an appointment at PP to find out how far along I was and what my options were- and I mean *all* options, not just abortion. Well, every person I spoke to in this place was either rude, inconsiderate, incompetent or all three.
My husband wasn't allowed anywhere with me and so I ended up spending around 7 hours sitting in various waiting rooms on my own, during one of the worst moments of my life, while the nurses and other staffed screamed at people to move their seats, wait their turn, fill out the paperwork etc. I was given a really rough internal ultrasound (painful) which the ultrasound tech wouldn't let me look at (again, I was still considering keeping the baby) and various lab work. The only information I received was on vaccuum abortion and came in the form of a printed sheet with my other paperwork.
When I *finally* got to meet with a nurse or some other medical person the first thing she said as I sat down, and the scary thing is that I'm really not exaggerating, "Well, you're 6 weeks along. Would you like to stay awake or be put to sleep?" I said I wasn't sure if I even wanted the abortion but she was passing me the surgical gown and preparing consent papers already and said "Oh, well, you'll be given counselling." I asked about having a medical abortion and she didn't have any info. I left after that.
The whole time I was there, there was another room full of young girls in surgical gowns and it was literally one in, one out...as someone who is pro-choice, I hate to say this, but the place was like a factory. It both really upset me and freaked me out.
If you want to have a mindless abortion without any consequences, this is the place for you (as long as you don't mind the 8+ hour wait). If you actually want to be treated decently and like someone with feelings, do NOT go here. Ask your doctor for a referral to an OB-GYN.

I had a very good experience with this Planned Parenthood facility. I've just moved to NY from LA, and my insurance coverage has not kicked in for my new job. I have to say that my experience at Planned Parenthood in NYC was FAR BETTER than my experience with my HMO (Kaiser) in California. There was a bit of a wait for my appointment, but once I was seen the doctor was kind, very patient, and answered all my questions completely. I was able to get a 6 month supply of bc pills for about the same price as my Kaiser co-pay. Great option for the uninsured.

Pros: Knowledgeable Service and Low Cost

Cons: A bit of a wait (but not much longer than my regular Doctor's office)

They gave me run-arounds at every spot: booked me under the wrong code, so the nurse had to fight just to re-book me (and I had to pay 140 dollars instead of 40); didn't give me an appropriate form with which to go and get an HIV test; gave me the wrong phone number to book a followup appointment. The worst part is that they weren't able to provide accurate information on a particular form of birth control--which was the purpose of my visit, to help me figure out if this was the right thing for me to do. The lady who was helping me kept referring to the brochures that she was going to give me and gave vague answers. I am squeamish to go there and have the procedure now... thinking of just going to a doctor. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Ladies! Please PLEASE do not go here if it's your first time having an abortion or any other important proceedure. The nurses and attendants, no matter how nice or accommodating you attempt to be in the circumstances, will treat you like you are wasting every second of their time. There was not an ounce of care at this care center. I watched nurses/ assistants scream at women to get up out of their chairs when they were recovering from general or local (extremely painful proceedure) anaesthetic. I spent half an hour with a girl who threw up in a trash can whilst app. 10 medical assistants watched or yelled at her for throwing up (from her nausea). I also had a friend who was rushed to the emergency room for incapacitating uteral contractions after the same proceedure this year. Unknowing or unaware (I have no idea which) the attendants at Margaret Sanger Center are collectively the worst healthcare assistants I've encounted in my life. It was absolutely traumatizing and I know for a fact I am not alone.

I have never written a review before but the whole experience was difficult enough. All women in this position ought to know.

This location has very friendly staff. I've had great experiences everytime I've been there. These offices are always packed with people and disorganised. A lot of women end up here because they are without health insurance and planned parenthood offers payment discounts depending on your salary. So, if you are without a job, its pretty much covered necessary healthcare. I find this spot convienant for women.

I had occasion to get tested here recently for a whole battery of STDs (just a routine check, I assure you.) The nurses were very nice and helpful however I had two complaints:

First, it cost about three times what Planned Parenthoods outside of New York charge.

Secondly, instead of getting tested for everything all on one room, they shuffle you from room to room, seemingly forever. I was in no fewer than four waiting rooms. It was sort of puzzling and preposterous.
