If the soup of the day at Cooley's Stone House Tavern is New England Chowder, you've chosen the perfect day to visit for a meal here. My sampling of this bracing treat was superb. The meld of flavor from sweet cream, to perfectly done potato cubes, to the generous portion of clams was beautifully balanced. No need for any seasonings in this bowl.

Our sandwiches from the compact menu were "typical" bar food, but done very nicely. I ordered a hamburger with bacon, done rare; and the sandwich was exactly to my order. And, honestly, one of the very best hamburgers I've ever eaten.

Cooley's is located just a short walk from the National Baseball Hall of Fame, but on our visit it wasn't overwhelmed by crowds. It has all the ambience of a warm and welcoming neighborhood bar. Along with a fair assortment of nationally recognized beers, the Stone House offers craft brewed draught from two local brewers. There were quite a few families with children enjoying their lunches while catching fragments of a baseball game on televisions strategically located in the barroom and adjacent restaurant. If you want an "under the radar" dining and drinking spot in Cooperstown, you can't go wrong stopping in here.

Pros: Craft brewed beer selection, modest cost, friendly, efficient service

Cons: No negatives

Cooley's is friendly neighborhood Irish pub just off Main St. in the village of Cooperstown. Great place to escape for a pint and traditional pub fare. Friendly atmosphere, decent food, reasonable prices.
