I stumbled across this small "hole in the wall" tailoring shop back in 2000 when I needed my "perfect" prom dress tailored. After seeing the price tag of my dress at a top-notch dress shop, I sadly had to put it back on the rack. Later that month, I was beaming when I found that dress at Salvation Army with a price tag of only $11.00. Though it was 6 sizes too big for me, I would do anything to make that dress mine.
Finding and going to a tailor was a new adventure for me. Since I lived right in town, I figured I check this little place out. Walking in, you'll find a small room filled with clothes on racks, surrounding an island-like desk where an older man, is sitting working on someone's next fix. As the man looked up at me when I approached him, you could see the years of working that he had put in. He talks with an accent of where I don't know.
Soon, he shuttled me into a dressing room where he told me to put the dress on that needed the tailoring. He then, with his wife, came in and started pinning the dress to where it fit, and felt good. I thought it was very thoughtful of him to bring his wife into the room because for one thing, I'm a woman, he a man, and I felt a bit uncomfortable with his dress on that was showing pretty much everything since it was too big.
After the pinning, it took about a week, and it was done. The work was wonderful, fit great, and at $50.00, I felt a bargin. That is the price on "specialty dresses" which includes prom and bridal gowns. They tailor anything that can be worn. And, if you have ideas about something you'd like to add to it, such as a scarf or covorlette, he's willing to whip that out along with it. I'd definatly reccomend them. They check their work twice, make sure it's done right, and you are satisfied. He will not allow you to leave shop until you have tried on the item, and you are smiling.
