Crowded Fun

by Justina F. | insider Insider | Rank: 12,996

I was invited to attend a friend's birthday celebration here. There were no long lines at the door, which is always a plus. The area to dance is pretty large and there is a small upstairs area, but there is limited seating and space for the lounging part.

The drinks were good depending on which bartender prepared them. There was only one bad bartender the night I went.

The music was great. I only stopped dancing when they played techno because I'm not a fan of it, but that only lasted 5-10 minutes. It was a great night. The place started to get less crowded around 1pm.

CON: 1 stall in the bathroom.

Went here with the girls from the office after work one night. We loved it, the place was buzzing with people and the service from the bartenders were right on. It did get crowded after around 7pm but by then we all had trains to catch. Great early hang out.

Solid Happy Hour Place

by mbarnes77

This is an interesting place, it looks like you typical 'snotty' NYC lounge. BUT in reality it is the furthest thing, they have great Happy hour specials, no cover, free seating, nice staff, etc... The door Guy, I think his name was Cowboy is really nice. They are very strict on 21 +. We had an office intern that was under 21 & was not allowed in. Also it is in a great location to get the train to get home. I never been to Katwalk on the weekends, but heard it is pretty good, I My check out for my bady in Sept.

Pros: Good drink specials, DJ, no cover

Cons: Small food menu

Good place to raise money for a Charity

by sjones73

A friend referred me to Katwalk, after she did a Guest bartending shift. Overall the experience was good. It was easy to setup the shift and mgmt was helpful during my shift (I had no bartending experience). The best part is they give a check to your charity of 10% of your sales. I raised money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. I would like to see more venues do more for charities.

Pros: Nice to charities and easy to work with

Cons: NO DJ on Wednesdays

just awful

by mourningthemartini

Thats 0 stars actually...

If you are planning to have a mixed drink after work, this is quite possibly the worst place to go. In what dimension is 16 dollars for a watered down martini acceptable ? If you're going for wine, dont let the bartender mix up different wines because she doesn't know how to open up a bottle of wine. A total disappointment unless you are going out to get others to buy all your drinks for you. Needless to say, I will be totally forgetting about this place. Your best bet is to trek downtown. Also, most of the positive reviews here appear to be done by the staff. Please give it up.

Pros: nearby work

Cons: service,the drink, the price

WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN

by yankz4life

I threw a party for my 21st birthday here the other night and was EXTREMELY disappointed...

About 50 or 60 of my good friends showed up. It all started when the bouncer, who spawned from the lowest depths of hell, wouldn't let a good amount of my friends in after checking their valid IDs with no explanation given. The bouncer inside then kicked my girlfriend out on the street BY HERSELF for "having a little too much to drink," without even consulting me first, because apparently she spilled her drink somewhere... whoop dee doo.

I was promised to have the upstairs lounge area to myself for a little bit after 11 PM, and when we finally got to have the upstairs area, it was a quarter past midnight and every sketchy person in the bar besides us joined my party and it was out of control from there. It got way too packed, and someone even knocked a glass out of my hand which landed on my friend's foot. She wasn't too happy about that. The place seems much bigger on the website but it is actually quite small.

There is a satellite bar upstairs which is pretty nice but the bartender was EXTREMELY rude and obnoxious to her customers (myself and my friends), and even yelled at me when I tried to shake her hand to introduce myself. She said "get your hand out of my face while I'm trying to make a drink." My friends complained to the bouncer who scolded her and then she latered apologized to me which I did not accept.

As far as the open bar goes, $25 per person for 2 hours is not that bad, but the selection of drinks was horrible. Your choice is standard beer and/or wine, or bottom shelf liquor. They didn't include any drinks besides screwdrivers, cranberry vodkas, or rum and cokes. It got me drunk but still... I was also promised by the manager that if I were to get over 20 people or so to pay for the open bar package that I would receive complementary appetizers or a bottle of champagne, etc. None of this was ever given to me and well over 20 of my friends paid for the open bar throughout the night. All that was given to me was a free bracelet.

Music was alright, but it was too loud, I couldn't even have a friendly conversation, instead I had to yell in my friends' faces if I wanted to talk to them.

All in all, this place is good for a quick drink since it's right by Penn Station, but horrible for a night out or a birthday party of some sort. Consider other options before choosing Katwalk as your venue. I will most likely not be returning here ever again...

Pros: Nice bar

Cons: Please read details...

Excellent Recession Friendly Specials

by luvpower

Okay, I am one of those bargain hunter types and I ove a good deal! So my company just moved to 35th St.. and I decided to check out the local specials. Katwalk has some good ones, especially for being a high end lounge and in midtown LOL

- $15 bucks for a 2 hr beer, wine & well open bar Mon-Wed Myself and my coworkers already did this deal a couple of times!
- Ladies Happy hour specials all night on Thursday. Yes I was drinking $6 Stoli drinks all night on a Thursday.
- No Cover & no cost for seating
- Pretty extensive daily Happy Hours all week long
- Try to bring 15 or more guests and you get free chips & salsa & spinach dip. Does not sound like much, but if you had to buy it from their menu, it would cost you $20!

Not sure on the late night scene at Katwalk. I have only been there after-work for the specials.

The staff is also very nice and knowledge about the different specials.

Pros: Great drink specials, nice staff

Cons: Small food menu

Friendly Staff Friendly Staff

There are plenty of lounges in NYC. But few have good staff, Katwalk has a great staff. From the door bouncer to the bartenders they are all nice and good at what they do. I have been going to Katwalk with my co-workers for the last 2 years and never had a bad service experience. Worth checking out if you are in the area for happy hour

hot dj, hottest bartenders

by jesset908

Hey everyone, I came to katwalk this past Saturday night for a birthday being held on the upper level of katwalk, I've never been here before but have heard of it. I love the decor and vibe ,very grown and se3y. Who is in charge of hiring the workers? Everyone is good looking lol, great martinis, our bartender was very very friendly and always smiling, think her name was mayra. Me and my girlfriends has direct access to the dj which was great, we bothered him all night lol, very nice mixing and song selection and very nice hair =).
If your looking for a mature crowd, with great drinks and music, katwalk is the place. hope this was helpful =)
Oh one more thing, crowd was very mixed, which is a good thing!!

Best after-work bar in midtown

by Girlsrule

One of my friends suggested this place to me and now myself and my co-workers go here at least once a week. First of all, THE HAPPY HOUR SPECIALS ARE AMAZING: $6 Stoli drinks, Jose Cuervo, Johnny Walker Red, Wine, $3 beers, $3 shots, FREE coat check, FREE appetizer specials, etc..

Secondly the staff from the door guy to bartenders are really nice. I found out that Katwalk has been around for 5 years and now I know why.

Pros: drink specials, service, DJ, decor

Cons: only small plate food, no full entree options.

Rude waitresses and terrible food

by marleytray

Went there with friends after work for a drink and a bite to eat. We had the rudest waitress who had no patience for us or the table next to us. We ordered buffalo wings which turned out to just be fried chicken, it was terrible. When we tried to complain she said she didn't have anything to do with the menu and that's just how it is, no sorry, no nothing. Apparently we like torture and ordered something else to make up for the horrible wings. The pizza turned out to be frozen pizza warmed up and the same for the fries. The drinks were great but don?t order the food and brace yourself for rude service.

Pros: Great drinks

Cons: bad food and rude service

I went there last weekend on a recommendation from a friend. There was no hassle at the door the bartenders were really kind and the DJ was the best. I never heard such a great choice of music in one night i was really impressed, he played of mix of genres which kept me dancing all night. And it wasn't that crowded so you could dance...in short if your looking for a place to dance & have fun this is the place to go.

Had a private party and it was great!

by christieb24

I had a private party here in the upstairs room, and everything was great. The space was huge, and we had our own bar and bathroom. They treated us very well and were helpful when necessary. I had to put my card down to guarantee a minimum, but we had no trouble meeting it. It's not the greatest location, but it was a great time, and I would recommend it for anyone hosting a private party. Just wanted to spread the word about these nice people!

Great Crowd & Music

by lisaxsantos

I was at Katwalk Bar & Lounge NYC this past Saturday night with 3 of my girlfriends. My friend Katie recommended the place and it was my first time. We arrived around midnight with no hassle at the door. Very nice decor, a bit crowded but better to walk into a crowd then an empty lounge. I noticed the DJ right away who is positioned like a king on a throne on the second floor of katwalk lol, he was spanish so i expected reggaeton all night but to my surprise he played pop,80s,house,reggae,hip-hop& top 40, very nice blends. All the bartenders wear cute katwalk uniforms, they are all very friendly, it was very busy so it took me long to finally order my drink. My girls and I had a very nice time and will surely be back to katwalk.

Pros: Great Tunes, Mature Crowd (not getto)

Cons: crowded, one bathroom

Quality if it were less crowded

by szaman08

I went here for my friend's birthday party with a girl and 2 other guys. The bouncers gave us no problem getting in and the venue opened up to a darkly lit room with red lights and young well dressed people.

The DJ blasted solid beats though when he did practice his 'freestyling' and tried to mix up the tracks a bit the effect was rather awkward. So what I really should say is that the DJ was great at picking fun songs.

It was also really funny because for some reason they had bikinied models on the projector on the wall. It was a blessing and a curse because while it was an enjoyment to watch at least one of the girls I danced with did seem to notice me pay more attention to the screen than to her.

Speaking of dancing there was actually very little of that going on. This was mainly because the place was crowded as hell. it took like 5-10 minutes to get a drink (albeit a delicious one) and it was hard to get across the room, I felt like I was in a crowded college dorm party. There was also a second floor that was accessible through a beautiful staircase and catwalk. But the upstairs was even worse where I felt like cattle being corralled in a pen.

All in all, the place was well designed, the girls there were really friendly and so were the staff. Only real downside was the crowds, the lack of dancing for the most part and dominantly the bridge and tunnel (NJ/LI) crowd. (not necessarily a downside but can get annoying).

Pros: setup, service, no hassle bouncer, nice girls, fun music

Cons: crowded, Bridge and tunnel crowd, did I mention crowded?

Best Bar/Lounge I've ever been too!!

by Lilybug105

I just had my Birthday party at KatWalk. Great Service from the Bartenders to the DJ. The DJ played a wide variety of "GREAT MUSIC" which you can't get in most places. I must mention that doing Open Bar was a great decision. Katwalk is a friendly and comfortable environment. My friends and I will be partying again at Katwalk very very soon. Special Thanks to the Manager who was very helpful in making sure the guests in my party received the service they anticipated.

I will definitely recommend this place to others.

Pros: Near by Transportation, Service, Music, and Great Location

Cons: Parking

Perfect Private Event Space

by sonigirl

Katwalk is a great place to host a private event, I hosted by my boyfriends birthday party. We had about 50 guests and everthing went well. We were allowed to bring in desserts with no plate charge! And we received 4 FREE bottles of Champagne with the gratuity included just for signing the contract for the room. The managment was easy to deal with and the service was good. If you are looking for a nice private room, without getting 'nickel & dimmed' I would suggest Katwalk.

Pros: decor, service, management

Not worth it, even with the happy hour specials...

by oaainnyc

I came here for the Seex & the City happy hour. The bar was crowded and I couldn't get a drink after waiting for 10 minutes. Then I happended to see a group that I know who was already sitting down and I went to join them. Another 10 minutes and the cocktail waitress finally came by. She was borderline rude and really acted like she hated her job.

I must say, the shot girl was very nice, though!

It smelled like bleach in there. I won't be back.

Pros: Good happy hour specials

Cons: Bar too crowded, unpleasant waitress

I had my boyfriend?s party at Katwalk Sat night. It was a nice change from the club scene: no cover for my guests, free tables, no long lines to get in, clean crowd and nice staff. I heard from my friend who recommended Katwalk, that it has been around for a bunch of years and now I know why. Also for being a non big club, they also had a good DJ.

Nice Venue, Average DJ (at best)

by whomeme

I went with a small group of friends last night to Katwalk. I have been to this establishment before. It had been a couple of years though. For the most part, it was how I remembered it. Nice mixed crowd (a little on the young side). The doormen were nice and the drinks were relatively strong. The only complaint I have is in regards to the music. The DJ was simply just average. Didn't really have people grooving like a good DJ should. He let some songs play a little too long instead of mixing in songs quicker. I remember the DJ's in the past at this venue being better. The DJ didn't ruin the night but also didn't make it one to remember either.

Pros: Friendly staff and nice crowd

Cons: Average DJ (nothing special)

Happy Hour Heaven

by juicegirl

I have been coming to Katwalk for about 2 years now and must say I never had a disappointing time. Solid Happy hour specials for midtown ($6 tinis & wine works for me!). FREE coat check on Thurs & Fri and good DJ. The Doors guys are always pretty nice and easy going. They do enforce a dress code, which I do not care about because it keeps the riff raff out. The staff is always nice and fast. Then again I know them all by first name by now :)

Pros: service, crowd, specials

by tbanks4luv

I purchased a VIP table for Katwalk's NYE party and was very impressed. We received everything promised to us and the service was excellent. The best part was the place was not to crowded. I found out from the table next to us (they came last yr as well) that Katwalk does not over sell their tickets and that is why they came back this year. I was very impressed and btw the place has beautiful decor.

Happy drinking this year!

Cheesy!

by klingrap

It's really funny when a bar is clearly trying to be a classy lounge and just ends up being totally cheesy. I went for a friend's birthday on a Saturday night and the place was packed to the gills with girls wearing too much eyeliner and guys wearing too much hair-gel, getting a drink took forever (not because the bartenders weren't attentive but because they have some kind of idiotic 8-step process for credit cards), and the DJ was laughably bad: he'd go from 80s to top-40 hip-hop and back again completely at random, and had a couple of trainwrecks. I didn't know it was even possible to trainwreck on a laptop! Dude, if you're going to charge $8 for well drinks, at least get a decent DJ. But the best part was the restroom attendant ... uhm guys, when you only have one stall, you really don't need an attendant in there. Sheesh.

Pros: nice staff

Cons: music, price, atmosphere, crowded

Nice Venue, Very crowded

by tygrlilee

Went there for birthday. We reserved space for 20 people when we arrived there on the saturday night to see that our sace for 20 people was two small tables that about 5-6 people could fit in. A hosttess kept coming over to tell us to move down and stay in our two table space. The venue soon became extremely crowded. You could barely move and you constantly being pushed by the people trying to walk through. Tables were being pushed back on peoples legs. The crowd was too much for some people so they left. But, overall people had a good time. Drinks were average price for the city and the music was good.

Pros: Good drinks, music

Cons: Extreme crowd and pushing

by claireisabelle

I passed by it one day and told myself i should come back because it looked good form the outside. the decor is nice, but when I went for after work drinks, it was so crowded I felt uncomfortable. And I didn't like the crowd either, it was lacking a bit in elegance and class. I'll give this place another try just to make sure it wasn't just awful on that day. In sum, I was disappointed by the ambiance.

A good place to hangout without the usual attitude. Go to Katwalk, you'll have fun.

This place amazes me with a name like ?Katwalk? and its chic decor, you would assume that this is just another annoying snobby lounge. BUT it is not, they have a great happy hour with all sorts of different specials, no cover, free coat check and they play sports, fashion, etc.. on their big screens. I go for the $6 tinis :). The staff for bunch of young good looking girls are nice (ladies you know how we can be some times :(.

The overall vibe is like a bar meets a really sleek lounge.

Worth checking out if your in midtown.

Pros: staff, music, decor

Cons: can get crowded, but not crazy crowded

Terrible for after work / happy hour.. but might be good at night

by miss_k

Though it seems like it might be cool late at night, this is a terrible after-work/happy hour spot. The music is too loud to have a conversation over and the drink specials are essentially nonexistant (the only discounted drinks are 3-4 beers and like 3 specific fruity drinks). But the ambiance is cool and it's a good sized space, so it might be cool at night if you're into the 'pay an obscene 10 bucks for a drink at a trendy place' type thing, which I am into from time to time.

Pros: Nice ambiance

Cons: Lazy service, overpriced drinks/food, no happy hour drink specials, music too loud for after work

We sat outside and a lot of the Frozen Stawberry Daquiris, which were only $6 (great for a lounge in midtown). The doorman was a cutie and the DJ played a very good mix. I have never been to Katwalk on the weekends (heard great things). But as far as after work, this place delivered a great time.

Pros: happy hr selection, DJ, outdoor seating

Cons: to many cute guys :)

cool vibe, good music, no cover

by msdecember

On the recommendation of Shecky's, a friend and I decided to visit there to waste some time before heading to The Police concert at the Garden... (it's very close by). It was cool to get right in as there was no line, the guy at the door was a bit snobbish when we didn't hear him ask for ID, he said something along the lines of "what place can you go to in the city where you don't need ID?" Mr. Smarty Pants.
Anyways, the crowd was cool, the music was good.... We ordered drinks and got two seats at the bar and just enjoyed ourselves.
The only thing is that I ordered a cosmo and it tasted like she had used the shaker to make a coffee based drink and didn't wash it out. Cranberry and coffee don't mix.
Will definitely go back, though.

just ok

by jasm19

I went in on a Friday with some guys to chill after a long week after hearing about this place from a coworker. I walked in and thought, wow..really hot girls work here. The bartenders were awesome, very accommodating. The shot girl was very ....very..hot. The food was ok. The wings could be spicier. I found the place a bit nostalgic because I went in on what appeared to be 80's night. Either way, I got a good show by the end of the night by a bartender, got some drinks on the house, had a good time and look forward to going back.

Pros: good management, good music, good atmosphere, hot bartenders

Cons: food could be better/ quicker

Easy to plan a party with

by jjrockernyu

I was given the thankless job of finding a bday spot for one of my friends. After calling several places with a ton of rules, etc.. I finally spoke with Katwalk mgmt and was sold on the phone. They were very easy to deal with and offered no cover and free tables for my party.

The night of the event went just as smooth, all our guests got in with no issues. Oh did not need to give a guest list either (this saved me a ton of time).

Pros: easy mgmt, decor, DJ

nice lounge for parties

by mililkit

i hosted my bday party there last TUESDAY. nice place for parties i must say, very spacious and nice atmosphere, and people there are really friendly too..

HOWEVER when i reserved the party, the manager told me that i was goin to get a free bottle if i have party of 15+ people. and after all my friends have show up, my bf asked for the free bottle they promised, and they told me the offer is only good or fridays and saturdays. i thought it was very shaddy, since i reserved the party specifically on tuesday, they shouldnt have LIED to me that they will give me a free bottle. but overall the place is good....i guess if you have a party on the weekend, then its all good

Pros: nice lounge and reasonable drinks

Cons: not really honest
