I threw a party for my 21st birthday here the other night and was EXTREMELY disappointed...
About 50 or 60 of my good friends showed up. It all started when the bouncer, who spawned from the lowest depths of hell, wouldn't let a good amount of my friends in after checking their valid IDs with no explanation given. The bouncer inside then kicked my girlfriend out on the street BY HERSELF for "having a little too much to drink," without even consulting me first, because apparently she spilled her drink somewhere... whoop dee doo.
I was promised to have the upstairs lounge area to myself for a little bit after 11 PM, and when we finally got to have the upstairs area, it was a quarter past midnight and every sketchy person in the bar besides us joined my party and it was out of control from there. It got way too packed, and someone even knocked a glass out of my hand which landed on my friend's foot. She wasn't too happy about that. The place seems much bigger on the website but it is actually quite small.
There is a satellite bar upstairs which is pretty nice but the bartender was EXTREMELY rude and obnoxious to her customers (myself and my friends), and even yelled at me when I tried to shake her hand to introduce myself. She said "get your hand out of my face while I'm trying to make a drink." My friends complained to the bouncer who scolded her and then she latered apologized to me which I did not accept.
As far as the open bar goes, $25 per person for 2 hours is not that bad, but the selection of drinks was horrible. Your choice is standard beer and/or wine, or bottom shelf liquor. They didn't include any drinks besides screwdrivers, cranberry vodkas, or rum and cokes. It got me drunk but still... I was also promised by the manager that if I were to get over 20 people or so to pay for the open bar package that I would receive complementary appetizers or a bottle of champagne, etc. None of this was ever given to me and well over 20 of my friends paid for the open bar throughout the night. All that was given to me was a free bracelet.
Music was alright, but it was too loud, I couldn't even have a friendly conversation, instead I had to yell in my friends' faces if I wanted to talk to them.
All in all, this place is good for a quick drink since it's right by Penn Station, but horrible for a night out or a birthday party of some sort. Consider other options before choosing Katwalk as your venue. I will most likely not be returning here ever again...
Pros: Nice bar
