What an awesome place for my kids to explore! There are so many unique exhibitions to entertain them for a long time. If you are worried about your child being too small, I would recommend having them play in the 2nd and 3rd floors. For cleanliness, the museum has anti-bacterial wipes and dispensers for you and your child at every corner.

hands-on activities like kids art, sandbox table, oversized litebrite (clever!) and things to build made this fun for our almost 3-yr old. but our 7 year old got bored quick as most of these were geared for younger crowd. the one exhibit that was more "sophisticated" couldn't hold his attention either as exhibit was a bit wordy and not hands on enough. outdoor play area was closed (rain). entry was crowded but there was lots of stroller parking. 5-10 mins to subway.

Pros: multiple floors with difft activities, lots of stuff

Cons: many many kids there, hard to keep it all clean

As a mother I was very impressed with this children's museum. It is very clean and has great exhibits. It is also set with small rooms and you go from room to room. This is great if you have more than one child you can keep them contained and not loose them.

This is another great children's museum worth noting. One of the most popular exhibits is a Time Warner video station, complete with a news desk and maps, and the chance to film (and purchase the video of) your own weather forecast. There are a lot of characters in the exhibits youngers can relate to, such as Winnie the Pooh and Dr. Seuss characters, which makes learning fun for them. The exhibits, which change over a slow period of time, are mentally engaging and make learning fun. I guarantee this science museum will make learning no chore, but a real treat, for your kids.

The Childrens Museum of Manhattan is a great place to take the kids for a few hours of amusement. It has a constantly changing range of interactive exhibits. Some recent favorites of ours were the Dr. Seuss exhibit, and the body exhibit. There are special rooms on the upper level for the littlest visitors, as well as a tech room for the older ones. Make sure to look at the list of special activities when you come in, and sign up for those that interest you. You could be lucky enough to see a concert, or take a fun chemistry "class". The water works exhibit in the summer months is also a great destination on a summer day. Just note that there is no cafeteria in this place (why not!!!??) and prepare accordingly!

PROS: great place to learn and have fun
CONS: no cafeteria!

Great place to take kids any day of the week. When I took my Son Corey he loved it and his 2 1/2. There five levels of fun and learning as the kids play. On each level there different set up. One of the set up is a food store and post office. The kids can dress up and have fun and play the part of a post office worker or fireperson. There places for the kids to read with there parents. The have a model of a New York City bus where the kids can get in and act like there driving. They have class room set up with people there to play and help tech the kids at different times of the day. Things are always changing there so go check it out.

We went to the Children's Museum of Manhattan last winter, and we were very excited because they had a Dora exhibit. My daughter loves Dora, so we knew it would be a big hit. The actual Dora exhibit was a little young for my daughter, who was 4 at the time, but she did enjoy it. The rest of the museum was nice, but small compared to the other Children's museums we had visited. But there is plenty to do, and the kids had a very enjoyable afternoon.

The Childrens Museum has some strong points. It's creative and when they organize an activity (my kids made Easter baskets there one year and had a good time) it is to expensive for what it is. I don't resent payin big bucks for admission to a Museum with a large acquisistions budget but it seems foolish for a place like this. Still the kids will be entertained for an hour or two, stay away on weekend afternoons it gets swamped.

PROS: Fun things to be done
CONS: Too expensive, very crowded on weekends
