We started with appetizers of corn bread with black bean dip, and guacamole and chips. Yum. Yum. The server suggested the dish the chef made when she was on Iron Chef which was cod, salsa verde, banana mashed (which was tart spicy & sweet). It blew me away!
My date had steak tacos with grilled corn on the cob which he raved about for days. Not only was the food the excellent, the server anticipated my every need but did not hover.
Cannt wait to introduce my out of town friends to Suenos!!

I eat mexican food at least once a week and I my girfriend and I went her this past week. It was tough to find bc it is a little hidden but it was awesome. First off, the margaritas had fresh ingredients not the puree crap from the box . I had the duck tacos and she had the enchiladas, but the thing that made me write this review was the corn!!!! They grill it with some spices, cheese and i don't know what else, but it was great. I would go back in a heart beat, but I hope you can't find it.

I had a great time here last Sunday night. I live in the area but never made it to Suenos. I'm glad that I finally had the chance. The food was delicious! The ambiance was quiet and cozy, something hard to find in Chelsea. I did think the food was a little over priced, especially for Mexican. The staff was really friendly, but once the food came to our table they disappeared. Fortunately, the chef prepared great food that didn't need any additional attention. I would recommend Suenos.

Great place for happy hour margaritas, a quiet, romantic dinner or a big birthday celebration. The food is consistently excellent, including the seasonal specials, and the staff is friendly and attentive. And I've never had better 2-for-1 margaritas in NYC.

Didn't think the food was really impressive - it was not horrible, but nothing special. Ordered the baby spinach and the hanger steak . Both were pretty forgettable.\r
\r
Didn't really enjoy the ambiance or service either. The service wasn?t so good as I thought.\r
\r
This place has definitely been on my list of places to go for a while, glad I can finally check it off! Won't be going back - too many better places in town.\r

Good. That's about it. For the price, perhaps I expected too much. The menu underwhelmed (though the dessert was great). The service was neither friendly, attentive, nor helpful. I can now check it off the list, but I wouldn't recommend it.\r

Went here on Saturday night. Started off w/some margaritas which were excellent! Then met my party for dinner. I wanted to start off by saying that with so many of us, the service was exceptional. They were very attentive. The ambiance was stimulating and the food was exceptional!! I had the Tamarind Hanger Steak, it was phenominal! This is by far the best authentic Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. The appetizers were delicious and the desserts were the best I've ever had in a long time. I will continue to refer my friends and will continue to keep going to Suenos!! Love this place.

My friends and I celebrated birthdays. It was a reservation of about 17 people. The drinks were fantastic...the food was exceptional...and the service was spectacular. They took really good care of us. The ambiance was great! I had a blast. They did no mess up anyone's order or anything. The best part was the dessert!! I LOVED the churros and the guava pastries!!! I will definitely recommend this place to everyone I know. Thanks!!

I made reservations for my girlfriend and I on OpenTable for a Thursday night. We arrived a 1/2 hour early and were seated promptly (it was a slower night). We ordered two margaritas to start. Now, they are eleven bucks each, but I've paid more for worse and these were quite good, potent and my GF said it was ""the perfect balance between tequila and sweetness"" for her. We had two appetizers, the guacamole and some sweet plaintain/goat cheese empanadas. The guacamole was good, if not great...not enough spice for my taste, though it was very fresh. The chips were stale but it's served with tortillas that are wonderful. For the price, I still prefer the guacamole at Dos Caminos or Mama Mexico. One nice thing, and perhaps the best part, was the corn bread/black bean dip they serve as a complimentary appetizer. The dip is spicy with jalapeno and crema fresca in it, and the corn bread is actually quite tasty ...not overly sweet and definitely not tasting like out of a boxed mix. For the main course I had pork tacos ($20) and she had grilled shrimp served individually on a sweet plaintain with a dollop of guacamole ($20). My tacos were a play on BBQ as it was served with a cranberry/tequila compote and shredded cabbage. Overall they were quite tasty but the presentation was plain and the dish itself could've used a second side-dish as it felt empty. Her shrimp fared better than my tacos and if we had known there'd be that much guac on her plate we wouldn't have ordered the appetizer. The shrimp was good (not too dry and not overly spiced) and the plaintains definitely fit the plate well (not too mushy or sweet).\r
\r
Our dessert was the best part. Churros with sides of caramel and chocolate. Simple and delicious, and only $8. Definitely a must have if you visit here.\r
\r
Overall, while not necessarily worth the money (5 margs, 2 apps, 2 mains, 1 dessert = $170), it is par for the course here in NYC and therefore a resounding success.

Pros: Great Margaritas, Inventive Take on Mexican cuisine

Cons: Value for Money

I am delighted to write when i first visited suenos for dinner on Cinco De Mayo, inspite the crowd the hostess was extrememly friendly and professional. She imediately gave us an update on our reservations because it was clear they were over booked given the big holiday. She estimated about a 40 minute wait, which i wasn't thrilled about but after having a ""real deal"" that our Bartender recommended, I was relaxed and realized everyone had to wait so I didnt take it personal. She would check back on me and my husband, and everyone hanging at the bar for that matter, to make sure we didnt need anything, which I though was very nice considering many people were NOT patient or polite to her or the rest of the staff. We did recieve a complimentary round of drinks as well as some other reservations that were patient and polite. Needless to say we were seated in the estimated time and the live band and great food made up for our wait. I had the salmon which was very good and my husband had the chilequiles. Over all the staff was nothing but polite and friendly. Not sure if I would go to a Mexican restaurant on a major Mexican Holiday but I will definitely be back to suenos sometime in the very near future.

Pros: They go above and beyond to make sure you are happy. Staff is friendly and engaging

Cons: wish it was bigger

they ruined my cinco de mayo! there was a weird stench when i walked into the cramped bar area. the hostess was distracted and very rude. i waited forever to be seated despite my reservation. when i asked to speak to the manager he was of no help. there was broken glass on the floor, the food was mediocre and overpriced. i would not go back to this place!

Cons: long waits, expensive, unprofessional management

i had an awful experience at this restaurant. beef tacos were teeny tiny, shrimp appetizer tasted like frozen, drinks were just ok. my reservations were not honored and walk-ins were seated before me. the hostess and manager were very unprofessional. i would not recommend this restaurant, one of my worst dining experiences in the city.

I arrived with my date a few minutes early but we were seated promptly. The waiter was very nice and gave some excellent recommendations for drinks. The margaritas are fancy and very tasty, though not as strong as one would like for $12-$14. We went with the guac and chips as our appetizer which was excellent. Both of us loved our main course. In particular, the duck was fantastic. I certainly recommend this place for a date or a fine meal. You don't feel overly crowded and its certainly a nice setting. Overall, I highly recommend Suenos for a high-end Mexican meal.

Suenos has a very comfortable atmosphere which is why I've returned there several times. The food is consistently dleicious and the drinks are always good. Also, for a Mexican place, they usually have a couple of good draft beers instead of the boring, regular stuff. Waitstaff is always reliable too.

We were a party of 8 for a birthday, and I cannot rave enough about this restaurant. And everyone in the group agreed - (it was family, so no one was faking it). To start, the place is very cozy and there's cool art on the walls. The margaritas are a little pricey, but they use top quality booze, so it's worth it. The server was friendly, knowledgeable, and understandable (regardless of heavy accent)...and he hustled without rushing. The food...just plain excellent! You can really see the owner/chef's love for the food. She explores all the wonderful flavors in the Mexican culture and it all works. The only suggestions i have is to mark the menu a little better as to the level of spice in a dish, so you have a chance to either request it less spicy or choose something else. Another is it was a little stuffy - maybe put some ceiling fans in to move air around. This was a great dining experience and I plan on going back. I would put it in the top 5 best Mexican restaurants in the city.

Went with my wife to Suenos last week & really liked it. I was immediately impressed with the draft & bottle beer selection which, at most NYC Mexicans, consists of only, Dos Equis, Corona, Bud Light and the usual tastless American & Mexican suds. I remember Blanche de Chambly, Stoudts, Sierra and some other goodies. Anyway, on to the food, everything was very good, tasty & fresh. Service was attentive without being bothersome, nice ambiance as well. Recommended!!

I went to Suenos last Saturday night on a first date because I have heard some very nice things about the Restaurant. Overall, I was disapointed in every possible way. Stale chips at the Bar, reservation which I made online was not recorded in their system, Restaurant was VERY cold and no one seemed to know how to work the heat, Margaritas were weak and too limey.....I really don't mean to trash the place, but when you are spending good money to dine out, the standards must be much higher. My advice to the owner: take a few classes by eating out at some of NY's finer restaurants, and take notes.

Okay, I LOVED my margaritas, chips and guacamole. But, I LOATHED my chile en nogada. A chile en nogada is the most decadent dish (in my opinion) in Mexican cuisine. This one completely FELL SHORT of my expectations. My friend's halibut with salsa verde was outstanding, but she was not too impressed either. I'd like to go back, but this time I'd try something less authentically Mexican and go for something ""American Mexican"" like tacos or seafood.

I've eaten here a few times and I haven't been disappointed with the food yet! Each dish is a wonderfully unique and upscale take on traditional Mexican flavors. The drinks are tasty and the price fix menu is well worth the splurge, just make sure you're hungry. I highly recommend Suenos for a great weekend dinner!

The place is nice, relaxed, yet funky flair and the indoor/outdoor layout was very nice (the resturant is shoe-horned into a backyard, but is enclosed in a greenhouse, revealing an outdoors garden). The portions are skimpy and it was irksome to get chips and salsa for the table.

The guacamole was fabulous, but stingy! - they charged per person, (five dollars!). They served a small-ish sized bowl of guac (creamy and salty..ummm), and handfuls of chips and soft tortillas. Tasty, but over-priced. My tuna was done perfectly and the mangotinis were refreshing. Others had the hanger-steak special and were very satisfied with it.

The place is nice, if not extraordinary. Essentially, we had a nice experience except for the loud cackling multi-cultural party of eight seated below us in the open 'party room.' Didn't your mothers teach you about to how behave in public? They should have been cut off.

Although I would agree with some that the service can be slow, my over all experience was outstanding. The margaritas were fantastic, made with fresh ingredients and great tequila, just like those I have found in Mexico. The bartender was charming and offered to let me sample different types of tequila and mescal. The food was fresh, flavorful, authentic and presented well. For a true Mexican experience, I would highly recommend Suenos.

Had a reservation but was not seated until 45 minutes after reservation. Spoke with the manager about comping a round, after we had already paid for 2 rounds waiting for the table. He said he would get back to me and never did. We were seated in a hallway, not the main dining room. We told our waiter that the margaritas weren't very good, and he said most customers sent them back because they were too bitter. Next our server mixed up all 4 appetizers-all were mediocre at best and some undercooked. The main dishes arrived about 45 minutes after the appetizers-which were indeed better. We had no silverware and our waiter did not notice. We were largely ignored throughout our meal. The only thing that was brought with rapid speed was the check.

Very warm atmosphere and wonderful cuisine to match. I had a great meal here, the squash soup was terrific as was my venison- cooked to perfection. The service was great and the wine list works well with the food offerings. Having been to Mexico numerous times and yearning for the same culinary experience, that is what Suenos delivered yet again. Go and enjoy!

Was really looking forward to dinner here -- I live in the neighborhood and had heard some good things. Service was good, except for a very long gap between appetizers (which came out too quickly) and entree (whick took another 45 minutes to arrive). Appetizers were good, entree was poor (I had duck empenadas). I was treating a party of four, and I realized how outrageous the prices were when I got the bill.

Pros: nice wait staff, good appetizers

Cons: , poor value

The dining room was very cool & ambience great, bar was quaint and neat, the staff was incredibly friendly. Our appetizers were incredible & almost too big, kind of destroying our appetite for the main course. Both of our main courses, however, weren't all that great....just not that unique and eye-catch a taste or flavor, just sort of bland. Also the entree menu was very un-Mexican, it had all the usual staples from an American restaurant, which was weird. From that end it was kind of disappointing. The other knock was the entrance to the restaurant it was all these neon lights, as if you were walking into a 24hr deli, quite odd....because once you get inside it's very nice inside.

Suenos has great food and killer margaritas but as indicated in a previous review, seems to have missed the lesson on customer service. From the call to make a reservation to the goodbye on the way out of the restaurant, staff is incredibly arrogant, annoying and condescending. I have been to Suenos at least 5 times (once for brunch) and keep hoping that the management will teach the staff that there are plenty of restaurants in the city that offer great customer service and that word of poor customer service is a sure way to lose customers and unfortunately travels like wildfire.

Suenos is a little oasis, with it's unique and intimate decor, including a little table set off like a DJ booth in the corner of the dining room where fresh tortillas are made througout the evening. And the food is tremendous, melding strong flavors in a unique way, with the chef bringing her own stamp to traditional Mexican cooking. Although it is a little pricey, it is well worth the occasional splurge.

The combinations sound good on ""paper"" but most dishes are heavy or muddy. Good quality ingredients but hit or miss execution. Oh and our server was arrogant and unhelpful.
They seem to think they are the Mexican Daniel ! (The wrong idea since Daniels service is anything but arrogant)
Perhaps it was just an off night.

The food is very good -- carnitas were fantastic. Appetizers good -- great guac. With the exception of the cool upstairs bathroom, the decor is kinda old school cheezy mex -- pastels, etc. The service is ok -- some of the staff was busier with friends than with customers. The prices were a bit high for Mexican food, but the food was quite tasty. Overall, better than average.

After much anticipation I was very let down with my meal. Though the menu sounds imaginative, it is executed poorly. The lobster corn fritters were overcooked and chewy, the venison tacos were lacking some kind of saucing or unification (venison chopped so tiny it lost all its flavor or had none).... redeemed however by the BEST guacamole I have ever had as well as some tasty margaritas...service friendly, upstairs bathroom rocks!

The customer is no longer important. There's great restaurants in Chelsea that also work to keep customers happy, so don't worry about skipping Sueno. Having seen chips and salsa at the bar, I asked for some when I sat down for my $100+ dinner for two. NO, I was told, chips and salsa are only at the bar. I said, ""really??"" and was told, ""yes."" It seems petty, but when I'm dropping cash at a restaurant, if I see food 15 feet away and I request the same, I expect to get it. The dismissive waitstaff didn't help either. I couldn't even pay for chips. It's outrageous. If you can easily fill a customer's request... do it. I won't be back. I'll go to places I was valued as a customer, places I've been many times since moving to Chelsea. They deserve my business.

Pros: decent food

Cons: poor service, denial of salsa
