It's cheap (i.e., you can get 2 dogs and a drink for under $3), but I did not think the sauerkraut was very good and the papaya drink was only mediocre. I prefer Papaya King on the Upper East Side. I think their sauerkraut and relish tastes better. The papaya drink pretty much tastes the same at either place.

Next to Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs, Grays Papaya is my favorite frank in New York. The best part about it is the Price. The "Recession Special" includes two hot dogs and a drink, and is under $2 (i forget the exact price). It's pretty amazing how fast and efficient they are.

PROS: cheap, fast, delicious
CONS: none

I can't help but notice that Grays Papaya is a downright copy of the Papaya King. The hotdogs are good and cheap - the drinks aren't. But if I'm looking for the best hotdog in town, I'll definately pay the cabfare or metrocard ride and go to Papaya King instead.

Everytime I pass this place I have to stop by for a hot dog. At a buck each its great. Its a great place to go for a quick meal if you are on a budget or just cravings for hot dogs.

The drinks they have are not the best I have. I've tried the papaya drink and it was way to sweet and i tasted no papaya. I would only recommend getting the hots dogs and grabbing a drink someplace else.

PROS: yummy hot dogs
CONS: bad drinks

These stands are famous for their cheap but tasty dogs! When you bite into them, they have a distinct and juicy snap to them that is irresistable! They are slightly small, but their cheap price more than makes up for it! Just order more. The hot dogs look a bit toasted, and have a unique taste that only Gray's dogs have. Their juices are ok-- not the best, even though they are named after their papaya. Whenever I'm in New York, I make it a point to head to one of these locations!
