I am in love with this YMCA! I go here a lot actually and do my workouts. It is a pretty clean facility and the staff is super nice!
There are many attractive people, both guys and girls that frequent this location as well if that's what you're looking for.
Come say hight to me on a Friday Yoga class!

YMCA is the no frills gym on the Upper West Side. The building houses a hostel, health club, pottery studio, theater, nursery school, day care and cafeteria. The membership is reasonable,a nd they offer financial assistance based on income as needed. The classes for children are fine- they have swimming, theater, art, martial arts, gymnastics and more. The nursery school is also very well priced and is a cooperative- parents volunteer in the classroom on a rotating basis. Our kids went here and had a great experience.

I joined the pool at this Y one summer. Even with the special summer price, it was surprisingly expensive (I think in other cities, YMCA membership is free, isn't it?). The pool was nice, but a bit smaller than the ideal size for swimming laps, and it was always very crowded when I went. It was so crowded that there were rules about what strokes you were allowed to do in each lane, so that you would collide with as few people as possible. However, the steam room and sauna were great.

This is the largest Y I have ever seen. They have everything here...you can sign up for a message, relax in the steam room, or sign-up for one of their many classes. They have a huge room full of cardio equipment, another for cycling, another with nothing but weights, and they have several class rooms for fitness classes. They have a diverse range of classes, from adult karate, to salsa aerobics, to Pilates. There is a discounted student rate of $56 p/mth, which includes access to all the classes, 6 free guest passes, and you can stay in one of their "hotel" rooms free 4 nights out of the year. It's a pretty good deal.
