Soho Sanctuary

★★★★☆
Soho Sanctuary strives to provide women with a place where they can escape from their busy lives and enjoy time to take care of their body, mind, and soul. A guest service representative greets clients as they enter the reception area, which is highlighted by the scents of fresh flowers and products displayed on the shelves. The spa has a fitness studio where clients can participate in Personal Power (fitness training), Pilates, gyrotonics, gyrokinesis, and Soho yoga. Locker rooms are scented with eucalyptus, which is also used in the steam room. In the Quiet Area, guests can relax with tea and dried fruit. Music or nature sounds are piped into massage rooms. The Beauty Loft is available for manicures, pedicures, beauty treatments, and for clients to hold events and parties. Soho Sanctuary offers services including massage, body treatments, facials, prenatal and post-natal treatments, hand and foot treatments, and packages.

I've been shopping around for a spa that gives a good facial and this is by far the best place I've been. I booked for a type of facial and when my esthetician Dawn examined my skin, she recommended a different facial which would suit my skin better - and it was wonderful!

The facial she recommended was actually cheaper than the one I had originally booked. The products she used smelled and felt amazing and she answered all my questions about skincare and skin treatments.

I left feeling like a totally new person. My skin felt fresh and rejuvenated - even my boyfriend mentioned how my skin was glowing. I am definitely coming back.

Pros: great service, relaxing private rooms

Cons: changing room too small

I would never recommend Soho Sanctuary's massage services. Based on online reviews, I gave a client a gift certificate for a massage at Soho Sanctuary. My client came in for her appointment and was rudely dismissed by a massage therapist. My client had allergies- she was told "if you're sick, I absolutely can't massage you", even though she had mentioned her allergies when she confirmed her appointment. (My client had mild congestion- she wasn't sneezing all over anyone!)

The manager didn't offer any compensation for my client's time or the rude manner in which she was basically sent away from her appointment. (I understand that there might be some inconsistencies in the quality of massage therapists- but the fact that the manager was barely apologetic for this situation was the most unacceptable element for me.)

I was embarrassed to hear this terrible story when I had given the massage as a gift! My client found Soho Sanctuary to be an unfriendly and stressful experience.

Every time I go to Soho Sanctuary, I leave it loving it more and more. I decided to get a mani/pedi in their Loft and LOVED it. A place like no other...my polish stayed on longer than ever and the products they used smelled so good. The environment was so relaxing! I've gotten everything from a massage to facial to a yoga session and just had the best time there!! It's totally my Sanctuary!!

Pros: The best place for a woman!

I love this place! I've gone for at least all of their services once and each time it has been a dream. The therapists are so attentive and knowledgeable about their profession. The receptionists are trendy and always more than friendly, and if you come on the right day you'll get to see a former ANTM top three finalist! :) GO You won't regret it.

I recently organized treatments for a group of friends. Everyone had a great time, except for me. I told my therapist I'd like to focus on my back and neck. Over the hour, she basically spent 10-15 min either laying her hands on an area (some no where near my neck) and holding them there for increasing amounts of time, culminating with holding my head for 3-5 minutes. As it was at the end of the massage I decided to ask her about her technique when she came back after I got dressed. Well, she never came back. In fact, she basically went home without checking back in on me.

I called the spa director there to complain. Afterall, I had brought in close to $800 in fees for ONE hour on a Sunday afternoon, a fact I brought to her attention. She basically said what I was describing was some sort of cranial blah-blah treatment. I told her that's not what I signed up for and instead of being apologetic, she insisted it was part of their "signature" massage -- something no one else in my party had experienced -- and only offered to have the therapist call me back the following day (two days after the fact) to explain what she had been trying to do.

None of this makes sense to me as a client, so I will not be returning. It's a total crapshoot at the Soho Sanctuary, so if you'd like your $130+/hr to go further, I recommend going any where else.

I have been to lots of spas and had lots of massages (even at the infamous celeb hangout Sanctuary Spa at Camelback Mountain in Arizona) but never have I had a massage as good at the one I had at Soho Santuary!! The ladies-only atmosphere was very relaxing. The steam room was great and the massage therapist was amazing! I highly recommend this place! I am going back very soon!

Soho Sanctuary is an all woman's spa that focus's on the beauty of women from inside out! They use all natural and organic products and make you feel special from the moment you check into the spa to the moment you leave...The staff is extremely knowledgable and gentle, and take the time to listen and treat your skin..the only place for facails for me.

This place has a great reputation, and you DONT have to book way ahead of time - I was able to get an appointment for sameday. The place is very tiny looking and very interesting - atmospheric, almost zen-like. But their hairdressers are energetic and enthusiastic - and TALENTED. Definitely recommend this place. VERY GOOD REPUTATION!!

Soho Sanctuary is the best spa I have ever been to and I have been to a lot! It is so relaxing and beautiful and the staff is outstanding! My treatments were pure perfection and worth every dollar! You can tell the people at Soho Sanctuary really care about you! True professionals! I will be a regular from now on. Other NYC spas just don't measure up!

Susanna does incredible brow waxes. And she only charges $20. SHe is sweet and friendly and really really good. BUT i fully admit that the people at the front desk are SUPER SUPER SUPER RUDE. They cancelled my appointment with telling me but then again they did squeeze me in any way without too much trouble. but they really need to do something about the people at the front desk, they are rude, have NO customer service skills, brain dead, and just aloof. BUT my brow wax is wonderful.

I have been to Soho Sanctuary twice, once for their Body Gloss treatment and once for a facial. Both times the service was excellent! I had a facial by Jennifer a week ago and was very impressed. She was thorough but not to aggressive with my skin. It looked so good after she was finished. The Body Gloss treatment is also wonderful. It's a 1/2 massage (and a good one at that) followed by a body scrub and rubdown in body butter. Perfect pre-vacation treatment...

the women who do the treatments are very good, professional, and personable, however the people at the front desk could learn alot from them. The front desk attendants are rude, cheap and unprofessional. Its a shame that they are the last people you see before you leave turning a very nice relaxing experience into an unpleasant time, leaving you with a bad taste in your mouth.

Everything from the bathrobes to the steamroom was absolute luxury. Much attention was placed to detail in designing the spa. Yes the massage was great too... I dozed off near the end of it.

this place is pricey, but if you have the money or feel like slurging i would recommend this place. it's a very quiet and intimate spa, tucked away in otherwise noisy soho. i had the signature massage with angela. it was painful at times, but effective. i've been told that the facials are good too.

You just instantly feel relaxed when you walk through the door! The atmosphere is inviting and paves the way for total relaxation for your massage. I have never walked away from a massage so completely relaxed that I couldnt think straight until I came here!

Soho Sanctuary offers one of the best spa experiences in New York City. It is discreetly hidden away on Mercer Avenue. Looking at the building you'd never know what you're infor once you're reached the third floor. And when you do reach the third floor, it's like you're transported into another time, away from the hustle and bustle of the noisy city below. I've had facials, and various body treatments at Soho Sanctuary and I've been please with the service from start to finish, each time!

Soho Sanctuary lives up to its name. A women-only spa, it offers massages, facials, yoga, and other spa treats. The facials are the BEST I have ever experienced. Afterwards I had absolutely NO redness and my skin glowed. The massages are magnificant and very theraputic. All of the staff is highly trained and professional. But best of all, the waiting room is an oasis of calm and quiet. Offerings of herbal teas, dried fruits, and lemon water will sooth any soul.
