recommended for women, these guys are the best.. ..... with lowest prices

by vic w.

No image or hype here !
( a refreshing change from some other bike stores in Manhattan, who are often staffed by the most unhelpful and rude people you ll find anywhere ).
OK so the shop is a cramped but you are nt going to live there, and that s part of its charm. Every time you go, there s always something to listen to or look at while you wait for their attention .... it really is like some ones backyard fix it shop or house .
I bought two bikes at 90% of the lowest price everyone else offered. I did nt even have to ask.
They are busy though, so be prepared to wait.
Recommended for women who don t know anything about bikes, as they will patiently explain the best options without talking down to you and with absolutely no pressure.
Frank 's should be proclaimed a NATIONAL CYCLING TREASURE.

Frank's is excellent

by S M.

I've been going here for over 12 years... after having a bad experience at another local chop shop (tried to scam me $100 for a tune-up) Usually I get a tune, new tubes, or brakes adjusted every few years... a few times he didn't even charge me, mostly I always pay far less than I expect. But the low cost is half of it... it's a nice, down to earth neighborhood place so you feel like you're at your friend's dad's house who happens to fix and sell bikes. Not to mention it's great to see local kids, hipsters, bike messengers, road racers, all milling about casually... and a great array of bikes parked out front: new, vintage, folders, choppers and low riders . Definitely bike mecca.

Great local bike shop

by Lance D.

If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd be happy to do business here regularly. I recently stopped by while looking to buy a new bike. The staff made me feel right at home and spent plenty of time anwering my questions, yet never made me feel any pressure to buy.
I ended up buying a bike elsewhere mainly because Frank's is a long trek from where I live, and I need to be able to get back to the shop easily if I need any tune ups or repairs.

PROS: Superfriendly staff
CONS: Extremely cramped store

Best used bike shop in NYC

by Gabriel F.

Sometimes the wait is long (especially on Summer weekends), and the little shop is crowded, but Frank's has great deals on used bicycles. He also provides great service after your purchase, sometimes free, sometimes cheap. Good people.

PROS: selection, price, attitude
CONS: a little far from public transport (if you need to go pick up your bike)

Nice shop

by Stefano C. | insider Insider | Rank: 22,301

I went there to have my bike fixed: the service was very quick, friendly and unexpensive! They also fixed my friends bike for free (it was just a small repair). I would defenitely go back there if my bike will have problems in the future...and would reccomed the service to my friends too.

BIKE SHOP

by Rebecca s. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 9,436

When my montain bike needed repair, I choose Franks Bike Shop. There was a problem where the chain will come off and there was a squeek in the front tire. Also, when the front suspension was moving, it would start making a nose. Found out it was just some minor adjustments that needed to be done and they finished the bike within a day and rode throughout the summer with no problems. They were very honest and never tried to sell more than what the repair needed.

Nice bike shop

by Anonymous

I recently had a problem with my bike and a neighbor told me to take it to Frank's Bike Shop. They took a look at it and told me there was a problem with one of the tires, and they were able to fix it in a few minutes for very little money. A few minutes later I was out the door. I use my bike a lot when I'm in the city, so finding a good bike shop is very important to me, and Franks is a good bike shop.

Anything you need with any bicycle

by Liba S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 12,522

Frank's is a full service bike shop, providing equipment, repairs, free air for your timres, and rentals. They sell and repair ALL kinds of bikes, both children's and adults (also stationary bikes).
The place has the old time mom and pop type shop, where you really feel like you are being taken care of.

PROS: Wonderful people / service
CONS: Inside the store is a bit cramped

Everything for a bike

by Madeleine P. | top100 Top100 | Rank: 53

Franks bike shop has amazing one of a kind bikes for those of you who are looking for that hart to find bicycle. Also, its a great place for people who are just starting out on their riding careers, because they are extremely friendly and helpful. I had a friend who went in and the guy working there even gave her a few free lessons out of the shop but I dont know if that is standard.

terrible bike shop and service

by merrill123

I bought a used 3 speed bike from frank's about 2 weeks ago. within a week, the break cables snapped off and the rear axl split in half. No problem it's used and things happen. I brought it back to get it fixed. While I was there i bought ANOTHER bike to use while mine was being fixed..... When I went back to pick up my bike, they flat out told me that I should buy my bikes and get them fixed somewhere else because I use my bikes for "commercial use" whatever that means. That's the way they treat good customers?...any dope can sell you a bike. It's the customer service and repair part of the business that sets bike shops apart. Frank's is lousy

Pros: nothing

Cons: there are about 5 other bike shops in the area

No BS bike shop

by bmwrider

The staff at Frank's is great! Very polite, down to earth and absolutely no airs about them. They just know everything there is to know about urban biking. Don't let the seeming chaos fool you. I noticed that both Frank and Tom are amazing multi-taskers, so just because they are answering questions from 3 or 4 other customers, they aren't skipping a beat as they set up your bike or find the part or accessory you need. I found just the bike I wanted so I bought on the spot; no need to check out anywhere else.

Pros: Great service, knowledgable staff, easy parking if you have a car

Cons: A little out of the way

Great price and attitude

by spey

Very knowledgeable and friendly mechanics, they explain everything about bikes in detail and help you make a choice based on your needs without trying to push a more expensive model that you don't really need. They are also patient and don't look down on you if you are a bike layman. They assemble your bike and install any accessories right in front of you, and they do it fast. The prices are also highly competitive - I checked the prices of a model I bought on the internet (Giant Cypress Hybrid), and it it is about as much as I paid in store, but unlike online, in store you get your bike properly assembled and tuned-up before you go.
They also offer free one year maintenance on their bikes. My experience with them was well worth a trip from Brooklyn.

Pros: good and fast service, positive attitudes, friendliness - you name it

Cons: a bit cluttered inside

Frank's is the best

by torgosmanos

I've been going here for over 12 years... after having a few bad experiences at other shops (one tried to scam me for 100 for a tune-up) I found Frank's and wouldn't bother a minute in any other shop. Usually get a tune, new tubes, or brakes adjusted every few years... I always end up paying at least half what I am expecting, so nice and down to earth you feel like you're at your friend's dad's house who happens to fix and sell bikes. Pros: Neighborhood, informal, informative, old school NYC

Cons: none

Franks is a neighborhood bike shop

by chrismcnally

Franks is a genuine neighborhood bike shop. He serves his community in this working class LES neighborhood and everyone there knows him.

Very nice selection of used bikes, including vintage bikes. This is the place to go if you need a basket or a child seat, they are experienced in this and have a good selection.

Franks is not just for used bikes though, I bought my new specialized allez elite there and paid a very good price for a superb ride. He was generous with the discount and replaced my seat and pedals for a low charge. Labor is very inexpensive at franks.

He also has some specialty bikes, such as tandems, call ahead and find out, i think you might be able to rent from him too.

On a saturday it's pretty crowded. Franks is open early, 9:00 am, but it's always closed on Wednesdays. FTrain EastBway

Pros: selection, price, neighborly

Cons: cramped

Bikerific!

by crankygidget

We went to a bunch of shops but none of them compared to this Frank's. It's worth the trip down to the LES. They knew so much about the different bikes and what I was looking for. They discounted our purchase by over 15% and outfitted my bike with everything a city rider needs. These guys know their stuff and it's actually fun to wait for your bike while it's being assembled or repaired!

Pros: Friendly, Knowledgable, Great Selection
