My father spent 2 months at Sun Harbor Manor recouperating from a fall. He received exceptional care throughout his entire stay from the aides, housekeeping, nursing staff, kitchen staff and the front desk. The food was quite outstanding and they even accommodate family requests to order extra meals so that you can eat with the resident. The PT department was top notch and worked with him at least twice a day, six days a week, always kind, caring and compassionate . His current PT feels that he was given excellent rehab from Sun Harbor and he was doing better than they had expected. Millie's afternoon festivities certainly add to the healing process. Our entire family agrees that Sun Harbor was a wonderful experience for all of us, as well as our Dad and we highly recommend them no matter what age.

Sunharbor Manor did a wonderful job helping my husband become healthier and stronger after a recent hospital stay.

The facility is maintained beautifully. The staff is warm, friendly and thoroughly professional. One gets the feeling at Sun Harbor that they really care about their patients' well being. At all times, they try to provide for each patients individual needs and requests.

I highly recommend Sun Harbor Manor for anyone looking for a rehabilitation site. Their physical therapy department is exceptional, and they also provide dialysis for patients who might need it. And Millie's wine and cheese happy hours add to the general overal feeling of well being that comes with a stay at Sun Harbor.

My husband recently was in Sunharbor Manor for about 3 weeks. The entire staff was wonderful, nurses compassionate, knowledgeable, atmosphere was beautiful, and the therapists were exceptional. Everyone was willing and able to help him from the moment he arrived. The facility is undergoing a renovation and so far it looks great. No matter who was walking down the hall, whether it be a recreational aid or an "off duty" therapist, if a resident needed assistance, they went right into their rooms to assist them. Nobody had the attitude "it's not my job". It takes a special kind of person to care for patients, day in and day out, at any nursing home/rehabl and Sunharbor Manor has found the very best. I have and I will recommend SHM to anyone.

My father spent several weeks at Sun Harbor in the spring of 2010 and the summer of 2012. Throughout both experiences, I found the entire staff -- and the facility itself -- to be top-rate. From the physicians and speech pathologists to the aids, kitchen staff and even the front desk -- everyone I met at Sun Harbor was friendly, eager to help and knowledgable. During my father's most recent stay at the facility, our family spent many hours by his side -- to the point that at times, Sun Harbor felt like our home too. The staff goes out of their way to facilitate that "homey" feeling; several activities are organized each day to keep patients active and engaged, and I even spotted a vegetable garden with thriving basil and tomato plants on their beautiful grounds! I would definitely recommend Sun Harbor to someone looking for long-term care or rehab for a loved one. As an added plus, it is located in a beautiful area of Long Island and a is 1 minute walk from the Rosyln LIRR train station, making it very easy to visit a loved one even if you live in Manhattan or otherwise don't own a car.

I had my mom in Sunharbor for 4 weeks and I have to start off by saying what an incredible experience it was. She had a fractured hip and was hesitant at first going to a rehab center but from the moment we got there she was so comforted by the entire staff from administration on down to the therapy staff. The place is beautiful, clean and very responsive to the residents needs. A 5 star facility in my opinion and in the opinion of many others I came to be acquainted with in my experience being with my mom at Sunharbor.

My father is afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease and in addition a disease called Oligvie. This is a pseudo-obstruction of the colon, which means going to the toilet is difficult and at times impossible. The last nursing home my father was in SunHarbor Manor in Roslyn Heights, ignored the warning signs when my father's stomach distended, used a faulty thermometer, (he was burning with fever) and by the time he was taken to the hospital he was in respiratory distress. An administrator, kicked my father out of the home the day my father went to the hospital. This monster, claims to be a religious man, but he never showed my father kindness nor dignity. He took revenge on a sick eighty-eight year old man because we had the nerve to ask that my father receive a thickened drink he enjoyed, in fact the only drink my father can drink. My father has a problem swallowing and doesn't speak, so he can't tell anyone when he's thirsty. This drink was a way to hydrate him and he enjoyed it. He refused to give it to him the four ounce drink.. The patient next to my father in the hospital was a victim of neglect from SunHarbor Manor.

Just like the majority of the other reviews, Sun harbor looked nice. While some of the professionals (ie social worker, rehab therapists) were professionals, the aide staff was horrible. They did not even feed my father, claiming he did not want to eat. In my father's gentle state, basically the most he can do is eat. At various times where I made visits, I always found him in bed, most of the time his sheets wreaking of deification. Nursing homes/rehabs are an unfortunate experience yet this one really was repulsive!

I agree with Elizabeth and all her comments regarding SunHarbor...it is a awful place with a staff that is not skilled in any form of critical care patients. Your parent like my Mother can go in on the mend and this group of morons will kill them just like they killed my poor sweet mom. My mother is gone 1 year and almost 9 months and I always check back to see what is happening at this house of horrors. God help all of the poor people going in their if that head social worker is still there I am going to go look and see. Keep anyone you love or care about out of this place. I would give lower than unsatisfactory but that is as low as it goes on here.

My mother has been a resident for almost one year now. I have read the negative reviews and, perhaps, at the time, they were accurate. Presently, I find the staff very caring, the facility clean, and a safe environment for my mother. That being said, I think anyone considering a nursing home for their parent(s) must have a realistic expectation. I know my mother is cared for, gets her medications on time, is clean, and is well nourished. I visit my mother on a regular basis which is also very necessary in her acceptance of this new phase in her life.

I encourage anyone considering a nursing home to visit Sun Harbor and arrive at their own conclusion and opinion.

Had I read some of these negative reviews before placing my mother, I might not have ever considered Sun Harbor. I am happy that I did.

I know the staff relies on loving relationships between their patients and their families. It's a combined effort.

The staff are not trained or equipt to handle critically ill patients. Its clean and has a decent appearance, but your family member will deteriorate quickly from the lack of educated quality medical staff as well as non caring money hungry directors whos only goal is to keep critically ill patients in their facility instead of doing the proper professional thing and transfer a very sick patient to a hospital and not rely on the family to make that decision. Why bother having medical staff if they dont have the training to treat a patient.
stay away from this place, because my families poor decision to rely on the "doctors" there, my mother suffered unnecessarily in her final days with us.

I have had the pleasure of getting to know the people who work at Sunharbor and find them to be very caring professionals who go above and beyond to ensure that the residents are well taken care of. They also have pretty good food to boot!!

My poor dear Mother entered Sun Manor on a Friday evening after being in North Shore Hospital for 8 days. She had fractured her left arm and was in incredible pain. The next day two therapist came to see my Mother and in there genuis diagnosis said she could walk to the bathroom with a two person assist. This keep in mind is a woman who had a cathther in her until the night before and her feet had not touched the floor in over 9 days.

So I called the social worker office and told them I was very displeased that two therapist would make a stupid decision like this and the social worker said she would look into it and not to worry.
Ring the buzzer for help at Sun Harbor a complete waste of time, you had to have someone with you so they could go hunt someone down to help. As I was always doing to get help for my Mom and as I walked down the hall I saw this poor old man sitting in the dark of his room in a wheelchair and he asked could I help him, he told me he was in great pain and wanted to get into bed that he had been ringing his buzzer for well over 30 minutes. I assured him I would get him help, and I did I found the nurse told her my Mom needed assistance and so did this man she said fine. The aide came in two help my Mother ( my mother was a two person assist just to change in the bed cause of the pain she was in and the other two wanted her to walk to the bathroom) it is a sad joke.
As I said goodnight to my Mother I walked down the hall to see this poor old man now laying on the floor screaming and crying in pain and I said I will find you help and he said that is what you said before. Well when they heard he was on the floor screaming he finally got some help. The following day I called the Social Worker tomorrow to complain of the lack of help on the floor and the fact that this poor old man had to fall on his face before he could get help. Well once again she assured me that this was terrible and she would see to it and report to her superiors.
The next night my Mother was so frightened of the night she said the 11-7 staff was mean and nasty and they would take her bed remote and nurse bell and make sure they put it out of her reach. So again I called the Social Worker and she was again so UPSET and she would get to the bottom of it. I put a note over my Mothers bed to say please make sure my Mother has the bed remote and nurse buzzer and my Mother said the night nurse was very annoyed with this note.
I called and complained again to the Social Worker.
The day after Thanksgiving my Mother was placed in a wheelchair and she started throwing up and sliding out and crying in pain my father buzzed and buzzed for the nurse but no-one came so he called me and asked me to run up to help him. I ran to my car and called the Social Workers again....I called the Nurse station screaming and finally he got help and the head Nurse came in and said she was so sorry.
Finally the handwriting was on the wall SunHarbor was not helping my Mother they were Killing her so we decided to take her out. I tried once again in vain to see the HEAD SOCIAL WORKER to ask for a Aide to sit with my Mother to alleviate her fear of the awful night staff till we could get her out, but I was told that Randy was to busy to see me. So I left and called her and told her on the machine I would like a Aide assigned to my Mother , no call back.
Wednesday morning December3, 2008 came and I left two more messages for this Head Social Worker and only after the second message that my voice was annoyed she called me back and told me she is BUSY....Well I informed her we would be removing my Mother from SunHarbor on Friday December 5 before SunHarbor kills her. Well she argued with me that only the therapist can say if she is ready to go...the same therapist who did not know my Mother could not walk. I said she is leaving on Friday and my Father already spole to the Doctor had already told my Father it was fine and she was leaving. WELL now this HEAD SOCIAL WORKER found some time on her hands to look into the case .
She called me back to inform me they would be doing a xray of my Mothers hip to see if anything was wrong with it and it was holding back therapy. I told her agian THIS PLACE IS KILLING MY MOTHER. I was right my Mother was pronouced dead at 1:30 that afternoon. My Father wrote her a letter telling her all I have just told you and she called and with the same sing song voice that her and her other social worker use said she was so upset.
A week later my Father received a nasty letter from this woman that they call the HEAD SOCIAL WORKER of SUN HARBOR , in the letter she states that no one ever called to make a complaint about my Mothers treatment. I called her and I said you must be kidding I was on the phone with the other social worker more than once a day and with numerous voice messages left on her machine and she said I WAS A LIAR.

My father has been there for over 1 year. My family would like to take him out but legally, we cannot. Our step mother keep him there. While we were out of town, he complained for 4 days about pain in his eye. They did not send him to the hospital. Long story short--he had severe shingles in his eye and lost his sight completely.

There are untold stories that I could tell. One of the worse was when he was bleeding profusely, all over the bathroom walls and floors, and no one rushed for an ambulance. When I arrived, my dad had waited 3 hours for the ambulance. There was blood everywhere but no one cared. It was only when I took matters into my own hands did something happen.

Don't send your loved ones there. Learn from our mistakes

This nursing home is horrible in my opinion. It looks so very beautiful upon entering but when you get onto the floors where the nursing home patients are its a sad mess. In my opinion people here are treated horribly and i wouldnt send my worst enemy here, never the less a family member.
