Didn't listen - cut my hair WAY too much
Not recommended.
I walked in with thick wavy hair looking for a simple trim and some cleaning up and walked out with a short short cut, the sort that a friend could have done with clippers for free but instead cost me $55.
Can anyone recommend a salon where they listen and do what you ask?

BEST Brooklyn 11211 hair salon
I ruin my hair. They fix it.
For the price especially , this hair salon is indispensable.
Great stylists. Great products. A real classic beauty salon with expert work.
The owner is a nut for making my dry hair healthy, and I absolutely love it.
But, I'll see whomever I can get at short notice, and I always leave happy.
It's reason enough to head to Brooklyn; then I stay in the nabe for a cocktail.
Well worth the trip.

Ciao Manhattan
I am SOOO finished with my hundred dollar haircuts in the city. Even though it is out of my way, I'll definetly go back to see Chris at Mousy Brown for haircuts and blowouts. He spent twice the time with my hair for half the money I normally pay for a trim and blowdry on my hair. He put some nice soft layers in my otherwise flat, boring hair (mousy brown), and it really brought it to life. I'll be back.
PROS: clean, pretty, cool music, very professional
CONS: off the beaten path,no ATM nearby

Great Cut
I was nervous about trying out a new hairdresser because I've been getting my hair done by the same woman in Jersey since I was 10. But after moving to BK, I didn't want to make the trek anymore. Last night, I had an appointment with Rita and she was awesome. We talked about what I wanted, she listened, I brought in a picture of the style I wanted, and she delivered. I had a great experience, the people were very nice, and I'll be going back for my next cut...
Pros: service
Cons: n/a

Second Thought
I went to Mousey Brown's last week and was not happy with my cut - it was much shorter than I wanted. However, when the owner found out how unhappy I was, she made a point of contacting me to see if there was anything they could do to make the situation better. There wasn't (my hair is now too short to really do anything with), but it's only fair that I point out how accomodating they are at this salon and that they go out of their way to make their customers, even the disgruntled, cranky ones, happy.
Pros: nice people, nice atmosphere, very accomodating

Mousey Brown
Nice people. Cool place. Horrible stylist. I went in for a trim and the girl butchered my hair. I guess you get what you pay for. My hair looks disgusting thanks to her. I hate it and I don't recommend this salon.
Pros: price
Cons: talentless stylists

LOVED my haircut!!
Had a great experience at Mousey Browns: 1) The receptionist got me in same day on a Sunday and was very polite. 2) the stylist that cut my hair LISTENED to me, wow! 3) convenient location, cool music, nice people - all around awesome. 4) had a great cut. Best in 3 years. I even took a picture because it is how I want to look.
The only downside was the pricing system. I am a guy and often I feel OK paying $30 or $40 for a cut. But at Mousey they mixed me in with the ladies and I had to pay their price - $55. I love equality, but that seems steep for a guys wash and cut.
I loved my cut, but I am torn whether I will be back there anytime soon. I know mgmt reads these posts...hello. I would be there 12x a year if you just have a dude's rate. Do the math, at $40, that means more revenue for you!
Pros: Best haircut I have had in at least 3 years.
Cons: No guy's wash & cut price. Ouch!

Awesome cut and color!
I went to Lacey for the first time in April for a cut and color and it still looks great! I thought the color she did was awesome, not chunky, and very well blended. I have blonde hair and like it to look natural with highlights, which is exactly what she did. My cut was amazing!!! I tried, very vaguely, to describe what I wanted and she did exactly that and more--even with my poor explanation. It is very rare for me to have a short hair cut that grows out well and it's been almost 3 months since my cut and it still looks great! I'm going to see Lacey again in 2 weeks. She's awesome and I saw some other cuts/colors by other stylists while I was there that also looked great. From someone who's REALLY picky, I would highly recommend this salon.
Pros: Great cut and color
Cons: Color is a bit pricey for me, but I guess normal for NYC
