I have pretty high standards when it comes to hairdressers - my Mother was a Vidal Sassoon trained stylist in London in the 60s and 70s - so I was super-excited to read about Mousey Brown and went there based on the good reviews on this site, overlooking the bad ones.

However, having tried out a couple of the stylists and having been there a number of times, I won't be going back.

Both a friend and myself have left the salon with mediocre, and in one case atrocious, haircuts. We are both very clear about what we do and do not want, even bringing in photos to help the stylist get on the same page. But it seems that unless you're looking for current, 80s, Williamsburg trends, you'll be unhappy. The stylists seem to be obsessed with jagged bangs and pixie-styled mens cuts. We both have pretty great and easy hair to work with so for either of us to have left looking the way we did, it is too bad.

I wonder if the lack in apprenticing with real artists is to blame for this. All the stylists I spoke with told me that their training was from short beauty school courses and years of "on-the-job" experience. Which may be why the price is so good - yet, perhaps it's an overall commentary on the industry in general these days.

Sorry Mousey Brown, I really, REALLY tried to give this salon a chance - I'm desperate for a good NYC hairdresser!

I did an e-consult from the website first , and I got matched with an angel.
Okay, a hair angel. Works for me. It is fairly cheap as well.
Love my new color.
Pretty me.

I ruin my hair. They fix it.
For the price especially , this hair salon is indispensable.
Great stylists. Great products. A real classic beauty salon with expert work.
The owner is a nut for making my dry hair healthy, and I absolutely love it.
But, I'll see whomever I can get at short notice, and I always leave happy.
It's reason enough to head to Brooklyn; then I stay in the nabe for a cocktail.
Well worth the trip.

I am SOOO finished with my hundred dollar haircuts in the city. Even though it is out of my way, I'll definetly go back to see Chris at Mousy Brown for haircuts and blowouts. He spent twice the time with my hair for half the money I normally pay for a trim and blowdry on my hair. He put some nice soft layers in my otherwise flat, boring hair (mousy brown), and it really brought it to life. I'll be back.

PROS: clean, pretty, cool music, very professional
CONS: off the beaten path,no ATM nearby

It really bums me out to write a negative review. I was hoping to get my hair done here of my wedding in a few months. This experience is making me question that :(

This was my second time at Mousey Brown. The first visit was great.

Bottom line - I could have a done a better job bleaching and cutting my hair with a pair of horse hooves and a bottle of grape juice.

New to the city and not knowing where to go I asked a hip friend of mine and she sent me to a popular (read pretentious) salon off Bedford avenue. I spent $250 to have my color ruined. After lengthy internet research , I booked an appointment with Chris at Mousey Brown. He fixed the hilights to the point that my hair looks as lovely as when I was in grade school. Blond , but natural. The cut ? Well , lets just say I feel like a movie star. It's still long , but with shape and softness. Mousey Brown is my salon now. The place is pretty and low key , a relief from the trendy. A little grown up and in a good way.

I had a bad experience at the last salon and was nervous to try another. A friend recommended Mousey Brown and I've been twice now. I e-mailed Meredith for a consultation and she recommended Rita. Rita is down-to-earth, thoughtful, and understood what I wanted right away. When I got home, my boyfriend was all about my new style- he called me his 'new girlfriend'. This time I felt brave enough to get a some color done. I'm totally in love with the depth of color and the easy style. She made my hairstyle & color match my personality. I can't wait until my boyfriend sees me tonight!

I have to say when it comes to trying a new salon for my men's hair cut, I get very nervous since I have tricky hair to cut..since it is fine in texture, one wrong move and you can leave me with holes, and it looking uneven. I needed to find a new Salon, so I had to take a chance. I am so Happy I gave Mousy Brown a shot! Rita did an amazing job!! She listened to what I had to say, and within seconds I was relaxed and could see she understood, and was capable of giving me what I wanted. The End result was Awesome, better than I Imagined!! fashionable, cutting edge style, but not freaky looking. Rita was also a pleasure to chat with, professional, but also friendly and fun. The Salon is clean and laid back, and it is located in a nice area right by the park. Also the price is right!! Give it a shot.

Meredith has been doing my hair for many years and I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. I've got a whole lot of trust in her when it comes to advising me truthfully and honestly on hair issues. Last week I decided to go blond (from medium reddish brown) and she did an amazing job for me. I am 100% pleased with the results! I've also had Lacy cut my hair a couple of times and was totally happy with the results. Lacy knows curly hair! The staff are real people, friendly and down-to-earth, not an ounce of snootiness here. And the salon is very pretty and super cozy.

Meredith took my medium reddish-brown hair, with its layers and layers of dye in various shades of brown, red, and lame attempts at blonde, from several years of do-it-myself home coloring, and fixed it all up so that it is now a gorgeous shade of creamy, sandy, shiny blonde - the exact shade it was when I was a little girl. There are these super-shiny highlights just from the color she used! I didn't think it was possible. I had these persistent red highlights cropping up again and again, no matter what I did, and the thought of bleaching it out had always terrified me. But I finally got up the guts to do it, and Meredith was the only one I trusted with it. She's been cutting my hair for quite some time and she's always been very honest with me when it comes to what my hair will and won't do, and any maintenance involved in something. So I knew she'd advise me against this if it wasn't a good idea for me. Well, she did it. And I was surprised at how really well it all went... she got the color to come up beautifully in only 2 steps, and in just under 3 hours. I am THRILLED!!

I just got home from an appointment with Jen. I LOVE my hair. I gave her a tall order - I have a massive amount of hair, and I came in with a nasty color that I wanted her to correct. She spent the better part of 3 hours coloring and cutting my hair - giving me exactly what I asked for color wise, and a really cool cut. She is also really nice to talk to, so the time flew by. I've never had such a good time getting my hair cut, and really appreciate the time and attention she was able to give my crazy hair. I would highly recommend this salon and Jen. I've been "salon hopping" for years now, but have found a home at mousey brown (and just in time for my wedding, thank god. i was afraid i would look terrible, but now I know I won't - thanks jen!).

I got my hair done by two stylists at the salon. Both gave me great options with my hard to manage extremely curly, wild hair. Rita gave me the glam blowout of the century. It lasted for 3 days. The products they used left my hair silky and smooth. I had a cut by Chrissy and she let my locks loose! She gave me just the right layers to let the curls go wild. She took time to give me styling tips and options. I am a dedicated patron! The salon is really laid back and friendly. I felt very comfortable and loved listening to music and chatting with the stylists. You can't beat the price!

This was my first time going to Mousey Brown, and I had a great experience, Andrew took his time, and listened to everything I had to say. I wanted a brighter lighter blonde and he did a great job on my highlights. The last time I had them done, it was much too subtle, and I made sure to make it clear that I wanted to be a blonde, not just a lighter shade of light brown. I'm really pleased. I can't speak firsthand to the skill of the other stylists, but Andrew was great and I've heard that Rita is good too.

i went to mousey brown to simply get my hair trimmed and shaped. i was greeted by jen, who proceeded to be the most unprofessional hair stylist i have ever been to. as a stylist, you need to meet the customer half-way, however, i spent the entire time instructing HER on how to cut my hair. she charged me half price after cutting my hair dry bc i think she could read my disapproval and her own complete INABILITY/DESIRE to make a customer happy.

bottom line, it was the most UNPROFESSIONAL experience i've had. she cut my hair haphazardly, almost recklessly, at times, and now it is a complete mess. one side of my head is thinned, the other is a giant poof. while the salon is darling, and i assume their other stylists are far more capable, DO NOT SEE JEN, she will ruin your hair.

I highly recommend Mousey Brown!! My experience at the salon yesterday was great. I just had my first day off in two weeks, just got over a really bad cold, was feeling pretty low, and was looking forward to a haircut. Friends had told me about Mousey Brown and I'd read great reviews but never got around to going. I've been looking for a salon and a stylist that I would like to keep going to but it's been so disappointing, my last haircut was super expensive and the color was not good at all, my hair was two different colors! I was a little nervous about getting my hair colored again but Lacy, at Mousey Brown made it look beautiful, she was able to get my hair back to its original color and gave me a great haircut. I'm excited about this salon, it's close to my house and the prices are more than reasonable, especially for the awesome work she did with my cut and color. Lacy is awesome and is very nice, and I look forward to going back.

My stylist was very nice but gave me possibly the worst haircut of my life. She cut my bangs in one chop while I was looking down, which goes without saying left them INCREDIBLY short. She also single-processed my hair, which is curly at the roots and so stands a bit off of my head - it looked like I was wearing a hacked wig. When I expresssed to her how unhappy I was with the wig-look of my cut/color she admitted the bangs were shorter "than she expected" and after a very long stressful discussion said she would put in some lowlights - in a couple of days. I work in an office and this was unacceptable to me. The next day (Sunday) they called and said they would fit me in - she barely changed the color and had to thin down and chop into my already thin hair so it wouldn't look so fake. Like I say she was very nice - but I looked like a wreck for weeks after.

I tend to wait too long in between cut and color so the hairdressers usually have to work. Andrew was up for the challenge. During the consultation he was honest about prices and gave me options so there was no shock at checkout time. I have a deceiving amount of hair so most hairdressers rush the cut. Not so with Andrew. He is extremely detail oriented. My long hair was thinned and layered in an innovative way that I haven't experienced at the hands of pricier stylists. The client he saw prior to me walked out with a head-turning bob which leads me to believe his talent with the scissors covers the hair spectrum. Best highlights and cut I've had in Brooklyn for the lowest price.

I made an appointment, checked in, and waited for a half and hour. Finally, I decided to see what was taking so long. It turns out the stylist I had an appointment with didn't know I was waiting on her and was with another client. They were all very confused and unapologetic. I walked down the street to Woodley and Bunny, as a walk-in - stellar service and a great haircut!

I was nervous about trying out a new hairdresser because I've been getting my hair done by the same woman in Jersey since I was 10. But after moving to BK, I didn't want to make the trek anymore. Last night, I had an appointment with Rita and she was awesome. We talked about what I wanted, she listened, I brought in a picture of the style I wanted, and she delivered. I had a great experience, the people were very nice, and I'll be going back for my next cut...

Not recommended.
I walked in with thick wavy hair looking for a simple trim and some cleaning up and walked out with a short short cut, the sort that a friend could have done with clippers for free but instead cost me $55.

Can anyone recommend a salon where they listen and do what you ask?

I went to Mousey Brown's last week and was not happy with my cut - it was much shorter than I wanted. However, when the owner found out how unhappy I was, she made a point of contacting me to see if there was anything they could do to make the situation better. There wasn't (my hair is now too short to really do anything with), but it's only fair that I point out how accomodating they are at this salon and that they go out of their way to make their customers, even the disgruntled, cranky ones, happy.

Had a great experience at Mousey Browns: 1) The receptionist got me in same day on a Sunday and was very polite. 2) the stylist that cut my hair LISTENED to me, wow! 3) convenient location, cool music, nice people - all around awesome. 4) had a great cut. Best in 3 years. I even took a picture because it is how I want to look.

The only downside was the pricing system. I am a guy and often I feel OK paying $30 or $40 for a cut. But at Mousey they mixed me in with the ladies and I had to pay their price - $55. I love equality, but that seems steep for a guys wash and cut.

I loved my cut, but I am torn whether I will be back there anytime soon. I know mgmt reads these posts...hello. I would be there 12x a year if you just have a dude's rate. Do the math, at $40, that means more revenue for you!

Pros: Best haircut I have had in at least 3 years.

Cons: No guy's wash & cut price. Ouch!

I went to Lacey for the first time in April for a cut and color and it still looks great! I thought the color she did was awesome, not chunky, and very well blended. I have blonde hair and like it to look natural with highlights, which is exactly what she did. My cut was amazing!!! I tried, very vaguely, to describe what I wanted and she did exactly that and more--even with my poor explanation. It is very rare for me to have a short hair cut that grows out well and it's been almost 3 months since my cut and it still looks great! I'm going to see Lacey again in 2 weeks. She's awesome and I saw some other cuts/colors by other stylists while I was there that also looked great. From someone who's REALLY picky, I would highly recommend this salon.

Pros: Great cut and color

Cons: Color is a bit pricey for me, but I guess normal for NYC

I REALLY wanted to like this place, as I've been traveling for years to my old salon in jersey, and wanted to find a place i like close to home. I've been here twice, first got a cut with Lacey. It was a bit choppy and looked just ok. I came back to try her for highlights, since she got such great reviews. Again, just ok. The highlights are much too chunky, I specifically asked for them not to be; to be more subtle and just blend. Plus, she got closer to my head with some highlights, and not other. So some of the streaks have about a 1inch dark root! I was surprised, especially based on other reviews here. The staff here are nice though.

I've been to Mousey Brown twice to get an all over color and hair cut. I went to a stylist that is no longer there and he gave me an amazing hair cut which I still love. However, the only con was that he didn't color my hair evenly. Both times I went to him I left the salon with uneven hair color which was noticable to my boyfriend (and he has no attention to detail). I think the uneven application had to do with the lighting because the salon is kinda dark. Recently I've been to a new salon and the colorist said my hair color was neglected in certain sections and he missed big chunks of my hair. I was very disappointed to hear this as I really liked Mousey Brown. While my experience there was OK, I'm glad I followed my instinct and tried a new salon.

lacey is great! i saw a couple of reviews (below) detailing her expertise so i booked an appointment. not only does my hair look superb but the attitude i retardedly assumed would prevail at a salon like this was nowhere to be found. i couldn't be happier!

I went to this salon around three weeks ago as it had really great reviews on Citysearch. I don't know whether i went on a bad day or i got a bad stylist but the cut was just awful. I asked for a fringe and for around three inches from my hair. To be fair, i didnt explain very well what i wanted but that was because the stylist took no time to discuss it with me and before i knew it my hair was chopped way too short. I do not mind this however, because it is hair, it grows, i am not bothered. What does bother me however, is the bad quality of the cut. Even my friends have noticed my hair is totally uneven, one side has nice layers in at the front and the other side is just cut totally blunt. It looks stupid. The final insult came when the stylist said, 'Oh you said you wanted a fringe well you are British, thats the wrong word for it.' ... what??? Surely, he should have taken time to discuss the cut with me if he thought I didnt understand what I was asking for? Unfortunatley, as an intern only here for a year, i have little money to correct the cut. So I am now the British girl with the lopsided hair until i go home! I would not reccomend this place at all.

First of all...I'm phobic about haircuts/colors/processes. In my history, I've had enough bad experiences (perms, soccer-mom hair at 14, asymmetrical haircut when only 65-year-old new age women have them) to know what is not good. That said, Mousey Brown has totally impressed me every time I've gone. I was smitten with the place on my first visit when I had decided that I want to grow out my (natural and very premature) gray instead of dye it and not only did Andrew (my stylist) NOT try to convince me otherwise, but he and another stylist there consulted on how to do it best and both made me feel great about my decision by telling me in all sincerity that I could work it. I've been once more since then. Each time, not only was Andrew's work fantastic, but I had a great experience at the salon. I'm going back on Friday. Mousey Brown has almost cured me of my haircut phobia!

Pros: quality of work, service, price, ambience

Cons: don't schedule anything for a while after, because sometimes you may wait for a bit.

i usually don't write reviews either but i've had a tough time finding a place i liked; i called on a whim and lacey was able to take me; she consulted me about my hair and gave me exactly what a wanted--a cut that will allow my hair and bangs to grow out in a way that's still hip and stylish. she didn't take too much off and she gave me advice as to options i had re: growing my hair long...this is a simple, quiet, cute salon-- when i was there the staff outnumbered me! but don't be intimidated, and lacey is awesome. the cut was quick but the results were great.

I never write reviews but went to this salon today for the first time and loved it!! Lacey was excellent and walked me through what she felt was best for my hair and kept checking in with me to make sure she wasn't going to short. it was perfect and it looks adorable! even got some compliments on the way to the subway... I have crazy curly mixed hair and I am always afraid to try a new stylist because I have had so many traumatic haircuts but I will definately be going back for my next haircut!

Part II

I feel it necessary to respond to their condescending message to check your calendars. We did do that, and they screwed up. This is the kind of lame excuse and lack of professionalism you should expect from this rundown chop shop. AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS BECAUSE THEY DON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR SCREW-UPS.

Part I (previous review to which they responded condescendingly)

My girl booked an appointment, and they totally screwed it up and put it for the following week. When she went in there, they did not even squeeze her in or apologize.

And she had been planning to get her hair done for a special occasion. Not worth the mismanagement and incompetence.

I can't believe I didn't know this place was there. It was the best experience of my hair's life. They took there time I wasn't being rushed or pressured into doing something with my hair that I wasn't ready to do. They were so polite and easy going. I love the shop too very cute. They knew exactly what I wanted before even had a chance to say anything. If anything else I think that's amazing. Believe me your hair is worth it check them out.

I have been a customer of Mousey Brown for a number of years, I travel from Queens to get my hair cut.
I cant see myself going anywhere else. Meredith cuts my hair, and she is terrific, she listens to you when you tell her what you want and has always given me great advise on coloring and hair tips. It is a good feeling when you trust your stylist completely.
The atmosphere in the shop is very comfortable and it is just a great haircutting experience. Mousey Brown does a what a Salon should do!

i am usually waaaay too lazy to write reviews but after going here i have to.. I had been a loyal customer of a certain other williamsburg salon for nearly five years, and felt my experiences there growing from pretty great to mediocre, and also further away from my new apartment, so i decided to try out mousey brown. i saw lacey and holy cow, she gave me the best haircut of my life. i have never been so happy with a cut, it was as if she finally got what i have been trying to explain to stylists for years. i have also never had so many compliments about my hair. and, it was so simple, it only took her about fifteen minutes to make my hair look 50 times better! i continue to get compliments about my cut, nearly a month later. the atmosphere was nice, and no one was snooty. I am officially hooked.

I've just moved here recently and now am in need of a great new hair stylist. My friend actually recommended me to mousey brown, so I just made an appointment and was scheduled a color/ cut with Andrew. I love the experience of being in there and the most important thing was that he listened to me, unlike most stylist that I've had in the past that would just do whatever. I'm so satisfy with everything and I've also gotten a lot of complements. I'm definitely gonna go back to him and tell all my friends about him!

I have never posted anything on a website like this, but I had to step in when I read that ridiculous review that was posted. I have been having my hair done by Lacey @ Mousey Brown for over a year now. I have NEVER gotten so many compliments and raves over my hair in my life. As for the salon...it is adorable. I travel an hour to get over there, and pass about 5000 other salons along the way but it is well worth the effort. The other stylists are always very nice, the building is super cute & I have never been anything but pleased with my experience. Bottom line, if you are an unhappy person with a nasty look on your face at all times- no one can make you happy. I always leave Mousey Brown with a huge smile on my face because Lacey has once again rocked it out!

Meredith (the owner) has been doing my hair for about eight years now and I couldn't be happier with her. I know this is most of Mousey Brown's clients' experience, but I read the snippy (pun intended) review by one of their rare dissatisfied customers and had to reply.

I too have been the slightly nutty broad who goes into the hair salon with a sheaf of delusional photo reference for my stylist. Never mind that my hair is wavy with a slight frizz and I refuse to do more than a cursory blowdry every other day, I wanted my hair to look like straight, shining, sheets of glass, damnit. Meredith is the rare hair stylist who'll tell you that she could definitely do what you want and it'll look good, but add that you'll probably never bother with the amount of upkeep necessary to keep it looking that way. Then she'll suggest something that brings out the best in my hair. A 'do I'll be able to manage.

I love this place and have recommended it to every woman I know. Armond the sometimes receptionist also does a wicked eyebrow tweezing (no wax!). The atmosphere is low-key and pleasant and while they sell products, they don't "sell" the hell out of you. If you ask, they'll tell you what they're using (and everything smells so good, chances are, you'll ask), but they won't tell you that your hair will be a disaster unless you purchase a $90 jar of heat-resistant, conditioning balm concocted out of the placenta of Norweigan Mountain Goats.

In a section of town that's being taken over by shiny glass buildings and the accompanying uptight yupster jerks, it's nice to step into Mousey Brown and be reminded of a time when Williamsburg was more like a well-dressed, arts-fartsy Mayberry. And to emerge from the experience looking like a million bucks.

Sorry folks, I am unable to update you on my latest experience at Mousey Brown because the owner called me and told me I would have to find another salon because of, you guessed it, my last posting! Although I magnanimously agreed to give Mousey Brown another chance, it appears that they don't believe in second chances. I was told that the stylist whom I referenced in my last posting was an "artist" and that he was "sensitive" and that apparently no one in the salon now could do my hair because they were "afraid of me". I believe my posting was honest and balanced (please judge for yourself) and if that's what scares them, than that doesn't say much for their business ethic. Contrary to what the owner replied to my posting, she is not the least bit concerned with making me happy and apparently refuses to service anyone that expresses dissatisfaction with their hair. This is New York City; the people at Mousey Brown need to develop a little bit thicker skin. There are thousands of salons that care about pleasing their customers and who aren't afraid of a little criticism. Don't waste your time with this daycare center; find a real salon. I recommend Antonio Prieto if you can afford it. Prior Posting: I thought this would show up as another posting but it replaced my original posting. I originally posted that the salon had Yo Yo quality. I stated that I was happy with the first time that Andrew did my hair but the last time I spent $150 and 3 hours to leave feeling dowdy and depressed for 5 weeks. This was my 2nd experience with Mousey Brown from when I lived in the neigborhood before and also found that I received inconsistent service. My posting stated that I had decided to make another appointment to give it another chance since this time around we were 50/50 and that I would update my posting after that - unfortunately, I did not get the opportunity to change that ratio.

I went to Mousey Brown after receiving a terribly yucky haircut from the other Williamsburg salon. Luckily, Chris was there to help me get my hippness back. We laughed and he was as baffled as I by the cut the other dude gave me, and was so very kind & refrained from saying anything bad about his 'competition.' I thought was totally cool of him! Really. No need for that.

Anyway, he understood my plight, understood what my hair was capable of, what I was looking for in the first place, and did a lovely job. I now how my classic yet hipster hair back - very versatile and a really nice cut. Feels great. He explained to me everything he was going to do to fix the cut. I was so nervous about going into a salon again after what happened, but my experience was great.

This place used to be iffy at one point, but its back to its original sparkle and splendor! Its also not a pretentious or too-expenive hipster haircuttery.

I have been enjoying the haircuts and color at ?Mousey Brown? for about 8 years. Previous to going to ?Mousey? I had stayed with hairdressers for a year at most before they stopped listening to me and decided I should be a black and white blond or some other variation of high-maintenance hair. This is my 1st review ever.

I remember telling Meredith, the owner and great hair-cutter and colorist, that I still wanted a natural look but I wanted to be a little more fun and festive for the holidays. She just lifted my highlights enough that I really enjoyed them for the holiday season and dropped back to easier maintenance for Spring. I like that Meredith will gladly leave hair longer if you like but always cuts short if you want. Whether Meredith does it or another stylist, they listen to your wishes. They are all so nice there, I always walk out feeling wonderful, like I lost weight.

The unpretentious proprietor has made the feeling of a down-home beauty parlor which is so refreshing for me as a veteran of model nights at all the most expensive salons in Manhattan, yet much happier at "Mousey." Yet it still has a Williamsburg flavor and I have seen the newest looks and colors walking out of there on model types, although I just like my more laid-back natural look. Meredith has coached me gently into a more glamorous cut as I learned how to do it.

I found an easy way there. ?Mousey? is at Lorimer and Bayard so I go another two stops on the L past Bedford, to Graham Ave. (10 min from Union Sq) and transfer to the B43 Bus at the stop right in front of Dunkin? Donuts (=going north toward Greenpoint,) and ride 10-20 blocks just past the BQE to Bayard where I cross the street and walk a few short blocks (3-4) on Bayard (a left turn from the direction of the bus) west to Lorimer. So far never more than 40 minutes from Midtown, and worth the results! You are certainly better to follow the directions they give you at the salon, but I like my way.

Pros: You get what you want only upgraded.

Cons: Sometimes telephone glitches

.

I was recommened to Mousey Brown by a friend and had the most amazing cut and color by Chris, one of the stylists there. He was so at ease with the color job (which was totally ruined at another salon I went to). Chris did a color correction and trim and I was so happy with the result. I will definitely go back! Everyone seems so down to earth there, easy to talk to and the mood is relaxed and comfortable. Chris is especially nice and really seems to know what he's doing. Great place!

Pros: Really good service, stylist was excellent, reasonable prices, great ambience

Cons: A little out of the way, but worth it!

I hate it when places I like get too busy 'cuz it 's hard then to get an appointment.
but these guys deserve it . great color work. They like long hair. It's not too snooty.
real basic. Real good.Nice selection of product.
Plus, I run the track in McCarren Park before I go in, and they clean me up real nice.
Do a treatment too; if your hair is damaged. They work.
A truly great Brooklyn salon.
I let them do my man's hair as well.

i can't say anything about the other stylists, as mousey brown owner meredith has done my hair for 10 years. reason? she's the best. absolutely, positively, hands down one of the best stylists in NYC, and that's saying somethin'. me, myself, i don't know of a stylist who is better. i don't know how anyone could be better.

ms. meredith chesney, as proprietress, is the heart and soul of the operation, and every detail reflects her touch. the salon is professional, yet casual, and as comforting as your favorite old soft cotton shirt. her demeanor is calm and sweet, and she really does run an old fashioned beauty shop.

she'll make you beautiful. she's an expert cutter, of course - she's also an extraordinary colorist. meredith takes one look at you and understands your coloring, your lifestyle, your desires. she's like some kind of hair whisperer. a stylist who takes such care and pride in her work, genuinely caring about your well being and happiness, is one in a million.

so, yes, i highly recommend mousey brown, and the stylists that meredith chooses to be a part of her salon.

lest i forget - she'll dye lashes, eyebrows, give your healing scalp treatments, blowouts and styles for parties, photo shoots, and weddings, and tell you which products to use, though she never pushes. geez, louise, this is the most effusive review i've ever written, albeit on of the few reviews i've ever written. i love me some mousey brown.

I have hard to manage, fine, wavy/curly hair. It resembles something between a bad ogilvy home perm and lint. I've always longed for the perfect curl, straight hair or at least a style for crying out loud! Since I am not rich enough to go to a fancy salon that specializes in curls. After meeting Laci, there's no need to. Laci spoke to me prior to my haircut and actually LISTENED to what I needed. She asked how I normally style it, prep it, wash it and suggested a cut that's appropriate to my lifestyle and hair texture. Then she got to work - first by cutting it dry, then washing it and then really going to town. I told her I wanted volume and boy howdy did I get it. I was a little stunned at first since my hair did things I didn't think it could do - like LOOK GOOD!! Laci was awesome and didn't push services or products, just merely letting me know what my options were. I DID buy product because her work with it spoke for itself. I have completely embraced my waves and I am absolutely loving my hair and the style Laci taught me. (Basically put product in it and leave it be). I've gotten so many compliments on my hair, and from people that rarely speak to me (my boss). I'll gladly trek into Brooklyn from Manhattan. Laci Rules!!

After my first visit to this highly recommended salon, I became a regular customer. Meredith and her creative team are all great--they listen to what you want, and make it happen. They will share good ideas with you if you're not sure. It is a nice, relaxed atmosphere, you never feel rushed. There is a really good energy in the space, and it follows you when you leave--looking great.

I decided to try this place since its been in the neighborhood forever. Prior to this I always had my hair cut in Manhattan. The prices are competitive and you are able to get much more personalized attention and no wait time to be seen. I was pleasantly suprised and will go back again...very conveinent.
