The Scene
Getting your hair cut should be fun, and the folks at laid-back Mousey Brown understand that. The bright orange and yellow walls are an instant mood-lifter, and the mismatched towels let you know this is no uptight salon to the stars. Settle into one of the vintage barber chairs for a haircut priced to please--ladies and fellas allowed.

The Services
Services start run the gamut from bang trims to neck shaves and triple-process colors, but most people come in for color treatments and a trim. Deep conditioning and scalp massage treatments with essential oils can be added. Fudge, ABBA, Big Sexy Hair and Biosilk are among the many products sold here, and there's also a small selection of combs, brushes and cute accessories.

Ratings_icons the best cut ever!!!

moonsafari

i got one of those haircuts where you want to call in sick to work for like 2 months and go out and buy an assortment of fashionable hair covering head wraps from a salon i won't mention. so after about 3 months of growing out my bad cut which still looked weird, i gathered my courage and called to book an appointment with my friend's salon mousey brown. i begged the front desk guy to give me someone good and luckily for me he did! now i've got an awesome razor cut that i am totally happy with! i'm actually getting compliments on my hair! it's so nice to feel like the hairdreeser actually knows what he's doing! thanks marcel!

Pros: good music, relaxed apnosphere, cool staff

Ratings_icons dissapointing...

jeanninebray

i had my hair done at mousey brown just recently and i was highly dissapointed.
i called and tried to make and appt. with the guy who used to do my hair and was told that he was no longer there. i ended up with an appt. with a woman who i assumed to be the owner. the haircut was VERY slow and ended up being a bit too choppy and even a little lopsided. i was so anxious just to get out of there that i didn't even bother to go back and ask to have it fixed. mousey used to be my place of choice but now i just feel like it has unfortunately gone down hill.

Pros: cheap

Cons: stylist, location

Ratings_icons grumpy man

kaycake

i think the man who cut my hair was either in a bad mood or tired.he said very little and just hacked away at my head.then when he finished he mumbled something about my hair type suiting a little gel and letting it dry naturally.when i got home with my hair looking like i had my head flushed down a toilet it dried into a big frizzy ball.thats what you get for a cheap haircut. never again.

Pros: cheap, nice looking place, great name

Cons: uninterested, lazy, rude

Ratings_icons upscale do for reasonable price

I am going back to Mousey since the cut I got there was equally good to the one I got at a Madison Ave salon which cost over three times as much. The people had no attitude and didn't push any products.

Pros: comfortable, clean, professional

Ratings_icons I'll be going back!

Was in town from Boston for the weekend, and over drinks Friday night, a friend mentioned Mousey Brown. Decided I wanted to leave NY with a new cut, so I called first thing Saturday and lucked out with an appointment that afternoon. They've moved though, to 732 Lorimer (same phone). It's a tiny little place, but the music was fun and the folks were friendly. I was very pleased with the cut and service I got from Brian. Hope he's still there when I go back in a couple of months!

I've been going here for the last year and I've had nothing but pleasant experiences and truly great haircuts for only $40. I don't know what went wrong with the poster below but I recommend this place.

Ratings_icons Can't beat the quality for the price.

I recently went to Mousey Brown for the first time and had my hair done by Tara. My cut and half a head of highlights cost $140, a true bargain in NYC for quality work. She did an excellent job, giving me a more sophisticated cut that really suits my face. She did a great job with my highlights too, giving me a summer blonde look while still looking natural. My only problem with the salon is that it is small and a bit cramped.

Pros: Inexpensive, Quality service

Cons: Small

This salon's high staff turnover is its downfall. In 8 or 10 haircuts over the last five years, I've never been able to catch the same stylist twice! For a quick trim in Williamsburg, though, it's hard to beat the cost--though look out for Mousey alums starting their own salons around the 'hood.
