I went to Soon after reading the great reviews and saw Kristy, who gave me a fantastic haircut. She also did a single process color, that was so-so, but the cut was so good I was looking forward to returning. When I did go back, unfortunately the cut was now a let down as well. She didn't seem to remember at all how she cut my hair less than seven weeks earlier, and gave me an uneven choppy mess with too short bangs. And, once again, the color was not worth the money.

My son has had his hair cut at Soon for several years--the hipster stylists have been great with my long-haired pre-teen hippie. But we just had his hair cut by a stylist named Christine who was as pushy and customer-unfriendly as they come. Although we've been long-time customers of the salon, she insisted on charging much more than we've paid before and claimed that she personally would have to pay the salon owner if she honored the kids' reservation I had made. (my son turned 13 a few months ago, a cut-off no one had mentioned.) During the cut she hardly spoke with my kid, who ended up feeling thoroughly uncomfortable.
This isn't the way we've been treated before, but it's left a pretty bad taste in my mouth.

Soon has a group of talented stylists that can give you the latest styles at reasonable prices. They also have great products. Very accommodating and comfortable for a hip salon in the city.

I used to have long locks...and guess what happened? Despite my friends' protests, I got bored and wanted to cut them off. When I went to Kristy (after my roommate recommended the salon), she followed my orders to 1) not make me look twelve 2)not give me a mom cut and 3)make my cut easy and manageable when worn natural or straightened. She succeeded in providing a gorgeous, layered cut that really represents ME as a person. It's unique, hip and will suit me well in my east village haunts. I feel so relieved that Kristy came through and gave me an age-appropriate, cool haircut...I'll definitely be back for the $15 trim. Hopefully she won't move to Italy --she was telling me that she's considering it--but I selfishly hope she stays at Soon.

Pros: great music!

I went to Ruthi and was pretty satisfied with the haircut she gave me, so if you're only going for a haircut - I have nothing bad to say
BUT
if you are going for COLOR steer clear of ruthi
she put the color in all the wrong places and really damaged my hair. it came out looking awful and wanted me to pay extra for her to fix it. HORRIBLE

Anne Stewart has been cutting my hair at the Soon on 11th street for several years and I could not be happier with her skills, she is great at knowing exactly what it is I am seeking even though I'm sure I'm not very good at communicating it, she is also terribly interesting and very warm and inviting, she is a pleasure to be stuck in one spot for a long time with. She has also styled the hair for a few of my friends wedding parties and her updo's are classy, flirty, and last all night long.

I have recently started getting my color work done by Emilee Watson at Soon as well, I had always been a DIY kind of girl but my new style is far more complicated and I could not be more pleased with the results Ive been getting with Emilee, My hair is a drastically two toned black and white and Emilee has kept it healthy and looking amazing. She is also sweet and hysterical and its hard to not drip color all over myself as she keeps me giggling quite a bit.
Soon gets a resounding thumbs up from me, and I cant thank Anne and Emilee enough

I got my cut & color at Soon with Jenn in December 2006. It is the best color I every received. Jenn listened to every thing I asked for and delivered to the "T". The best part was that the color stayed for a good 4 months. Typically I need a new coloring in under 3 months.

I wasn't overwhelmed by the cut or the service. It was obvious they didn't think I was their "type" of customer...I am not young, hip, and stylish. So I didn't exactly get the red-carpet treatment. But they were much kinder than the abysmal behaviour I encountered at Salon Ishi.

The cut was very simple and didn't take much time, but I got charged top dollar. I definitely have had better cuts for less. It was not a bad cut, but definitely not worth the amount I paid.

I've since found another salon for cuts, but would consider going back for the quality of the dye and Jenn's skill with picking the right color and correcting any problems.

I had been to Soon Beauty Lab on numerous occasions and always seemed to get pretty decent service. Until recently...I had gone for my haircut then made an apt. to come back for a $10 allover trim. I made the apt. and booked a week in advance. The day of the apt. My stylist was running late, but I didn't mind waiting.
Finally it was my turn, my stylist had asked what I was getting done that day, I had told her the allover trim, she told me with an attitude that she didn't have time, since she had an "appointment" coming. I was thinking to myself, yeah you do have an apt...me! Apparently $10 trims are not important enough and full priced customers are? She said she would only trim bangs,I would have to make another apt the following week. I should have walked out, but I made the apt. so I got my bangs trimmed. She cut so quickly, barely even trimming and hair, it was allover my face which she didn't wipe off. I went to pay, she said come back another day for the rest. I went to the bathroom to wipe the hair off, since she was in such a rush. I then unhappily left the salon. 1/2 way down the block someone was calling my name,it was the grouchy receptionist glaring at me. I was like yes? can I help you...she was like yeah you owe me $10. I was confused I had made an apt for allover trim, the stylist told me she had no time.I thought when I came back for the allover I would pay the $10 she was like no, you pay now and then again when you get the rest of your hair cut which would be $20. She made me pay and continued with attitude. She even made me feel bad and I was even apologizing when paying her. I had always paid full price and the one time I try to get a trim, which I never got, I was faced with attitude by both stylist and receptionist. Well this is one customer that will not be coming back! Perhaps the employees of this Salon should loose the attitude, without your customers you wouldn't have a business. To anyone attempting a trim...be cautious!

I always wanted to try out this salon because it looks so clean, cute, and stylish. The reviews on this website were pretty good and sounded legitimate so I gave it a try. I wound up with Amy, a senior stylist who was really friendly and talked to me the entire time she gave me a haircut. She was good in terms of listening to what my hair type is like and what hair cuts are definitely not compatible with it. Together, we decided to keep my hair length, but to re-style it. I walked out of the salon with a pretty haircut, and was quite pleased. The cost was $80, and I wound up tipping $15. Two days later, while drying my hair, I realized that my stylist had given me layers that were an inch shorter, and choppier, on the left side of my head. I tend to hide the mistake by always straightening my hair, or tying it up. This stylist is Soon's "senior stylist", yet somehow doesn't check the lengths well enough to realize the mistake. Sure, the mistake isn't always noticeable, but it shouldn't happen at a place that charges $80 for a cut. Conclusion: cute salon, nice stylists, but I don't trust it enough to go back for a second haircut.

Last night was my first time at Soon and I have never been so thrilled with a haircut! I came here because my former stylist (at another salon) stopped listening to me and I'd be miserable for a few weeks until my cut grew out a bit, which is ridiculous, especially because of what he was charging me.

I'm very particular about my hair, and thankfully my stylist at Soon was fantastic and very easy to talk to. She asked a lot of questions, understood me, and most of all, she LISTENED! She didn't try to make me look like a hipster moron with a self-important haircut, like my former stylist would. She offered great suggestions based on my hair type and what would look best for my face and personal style. I have short hair that has a lot of body and texture-- the perfect hair for Bedhead Chic. She gave me a clean, versatile cut that can be sleek & professional while at work and messy at night.

The atmopshere is very cool without being intimidating or overly impressed with itself, like many highly-rated salons can be. Soon is very inviting and comfortable, and the staff is friendly. The rates are excellent, and their offer for $10 trims in-between cuts can't be beat! This is the most stress-free salon experience I've ever had.

I got my first haircut in New York at Soon a few days ago, and the experience was overall pleasant and enjoyable. I was greeted by the receptionist and my hair stylist promptly as I arrived for my appointment. My stylist was very friendly and patient - she listened to my requests attentively and explained to me what she was planning to do to give me the haircut I asked for. I haven't been to other salons in New York, so I can't compare, but I'm happy with the results.

A few days ago I went to another very highly rated salon in NYC. When I left, the cut looked all right, but since I never style my hair, it looked different when I let it air dry. It turns out that I don't like choppy cuts with chunky layers. I don't blame they stylist since I had given him a lot of freedom (I was tired of my bland hair), and on someone else it'd probably have been fine, but when I found myself "trimming" bits and pieces for the 3rd time to try and make it look more uniform, I knew I had to schedule an emergency appointment. I called Soon and got an appointment for 2 hours later the same day. I arrived a few minutes early and was immediately shown to the changing room. When I came out, I was led to the sink, where Kristina washed my hair and gave me a nice scalp massage. Then I explained to my stylist, Kumi, what had happened and that what I wanted was softly graduated layers, and that I wanted to lose as little hair as possible as it was already a little shorter than I wanted. I knew this might be difficult because she was definitely going to have to cut some off in order to fix it, so I just crossed my fingers and hoped it would be all right. Kumi seemed to understand what I wanted and went to work. By the time she'd blown my hair dry, I was feeling a lot better about my style. The sides in particular look very nice, with the softly graduated layers I had been looking for. The back was harder to fix because of how the original stylist had cut the layers, but she did a good job there too. Considering the limitations she had to work with, I think she did a very good job. I'll just say that earlier in the day I had reached the point where I literally could barely think about anything except my hair and how much I disliked it, and after my appointment with Kumi, I felt like I could relax and breathe again. Kumi herself is very nice. She's also polite and listens to what you want, and asks for clarification if necessary. Highly recommended!

Pros: Fixed my botched haircut; scalp massage; no wait; cheap trims; friendly stylist

Cons: $70 is a bit steep for me, but for NYC in general, it's probably quite fair; $125 highlights unfortunately are out of my league

I actually live in Boston but get my haircut at Soon because they are the only salon that actually lets you have long hair! They also give you a cool haircut but its also down to earth and pretty too (you know how a lot of places give you a "cool" haircut--a lot of times it is really generic and doesn't fit your face and looks stupid). It's pricey but to me worth it, because I actually love my haircut and it is done well so lasts almost 3 months!! Also the salon is laid back, you're not in some wierd uptight salony place.

I enjoy getting hard to find beauty products there. They have good selection, but there prices are a bit steep. However, I am willing to pay this for the qualtiy of product I get. I have yet to get a hair cut there, but the personnel seem personable and friendly. I would expect a great cut from them. Their product quality is fabulous.

When I first moved to NYC a friend recommended this salon. While haircuts are rather expensive (well for a guy who used to live in Vermont at least) the hairdressers do great work and are friendly and experiened. The price will vary depending on who styles your hair, I pay $52. In addition you can usually get an appointment with the staff of your choice even if you call that day. This is a laid back salon with all the benefits of a more trendy place.

After my regular stylist started overcharging, I was faced with the impossible task of finding a new one. I chose Soon because it's close, and every time I walk by it looks cute and inviting. I made an appointment with Ellen on recommendation from Citysearch reviewers. Without waiting, Allison gave me an unexpected aromatherapy scalp massage before shampooing that (I swear) totally got rid of my raging hangover headache. Ellen and I came up with a style together, and rather than speeding, she kept me for an extra 45 mins, carefully reviewing my cut from each angle. She also showed me how to style it without me having to ask. Now I can't GET it to look bad (I've tried). On top of that, all the stylists are incredibly sweet, and they play great music. (Clinic? Le Tigre? Yeah.) I ADOOOOOORE Soon and am NEVER going anywhere else again.

Attracted by the $10 trim policy and some good reviews, I made an appointment completely blind, got in the same evening---and got one of the best haircuts of my life! Carla took great care in making certain she understood what I wanted, and completely "got' my hair worries: I have thick wavy hair that can curl in wayward ways, so a good haircut is a minor miracle for me. Carla's natural hair is curly AND she completely knew what she was doing. Friendly salon as well, very laid back.

I was very nervous about choosing the right salon in intimidating NYC, but I made the right choice. For $45, a junior stylist gave me a great cut, no pressure just good advice, relaxed conversation and a fresh atmosphere. The tea tree scalp massage was oh so relaxing as well. I plan to return for all my mane-needs in the future.

Funky, Friedly, and Affordable. i felt like a princess as the shampoo girl massaged my scalp with tea tree oil and conditioner. Nicole designed the perfect haircut for my hard to mange curls and spent 40 minutes styling my do at no extra coast like other salons. I highly recomend this place.

After my previous hair dresser left I was a bit sceptical about letting someone else cut my hair but i must say Nicole has made a very good impression on me. I first got my hair cut by her about 8 months ago and ever since she has given me nothing but great hair cuts. Exactly what I ask for each time. Great salon I recomend it highly, and especially recomend Nicole.

I had a great experience at Soon. I was very hesitant to get a hair cut because my hair is a little tricky to deal with- Ellen did an amazing job. Its a few days later and it still looks like it did the day she cut it. Ask for Ellen!

Soon is a fantastic place to get a cut. I went to Carolyn who was friendly and helpful and gave me the best cut I've had in years. She listened to what I wanted and made really excellent suggestions. All the stylists and staff were friendly, young and hip. Everyone seemed happy and there is a positive, unpretentious vibe to the whole place. Soon rocks!

Pros: Moderate prices, Good Products, Friendly

Great haircuts at good prices. If you are looking to get something fun and fresh this is a great place to go. This is a no frills place, so if you are looking for posh this is not the place to go.

All I can is- GET SOME AIR CONDITIONING in there. As a regular customer, I have found this place has really gone down hill. It has not been kept up well at all- the place is in need of some repairs- certainly not chic or cool anymore. If it weren't for my stylist, I think I would never come back. Anytime you go in here- you die from the heat. How they think they can charge the prices they do with such an uncomfortable environment is beyond me!!! Everyone was obviously sweating!!

Cons: snotty receptionist, Poor air conditioning

I've gotten a ton of great cuts at Soon. Try to get a more experienced staff person, like Julie, for a more exciting cut. And they have a $10 trim service!
the best....

I made an appointment here after reading the mostly rave reviews, and I was pleasantly surprised! I had asked for a stylist who was on the lower end of their price range ($45), knowing that could be the death of my hair. That's more than I'll typically pay, but it was worth it- I WILL go back.

My stylist, Ellen, was fifteen minutes late. She was very apologetic, and so friendly that she even got me (I normally am not terribly talkative after a long work day) to engage in a conversation the entire haircut. She cut my hair EXACTLY how I had explained the difficult short haircut to her without me providing a picture or anything!!

The best part about this salon is probably the fact that they have a "trimming service"- if you need a trim as things grow out, you can make an appointment for only $10!

Bright, welcoming space; friendly staff; downtown vibe; cute dogs; blissful scalp massage; sensible price; and of course hip and work-with-able cut. I trust Melissa's sense of style implicitly, and Astrud is lovely in every way!

You can get a fab haircut and it wont cost you an arm and a leg. I go to Melissa, the owner, and she is great. I have gone to other stylists there and they are awesome. It took me a long time to find a hair stylist that could do a great job and do it for a decent price. They are also fast too. For a good cut - go here.

Tempted by the eye candy and the decor, I decided to try this salon. Those chicks can cut hair! I had a great time and I got a cool cut for a good price. The $10 in-between trim is a great bonus. I will definitely go back.
