I am filing complaints against both Dr. Gibson and Dr. Rachael Black with the NYS Ed. Dept.- Office of the Professions-Professional Discipline. When I came home to my senior Cat excessively drooling late on a at Wednesday night, I rushed to Animal Kind since they have late hours - Big Mistake! After Dr. Rachel Black examined my cat I was told that she just need a dental cleaning and not to be euthanized, it would be "$500 which would include everything, anesthesia, blood test, x-rays" but she could not do the cleaning till Tuesday -Since this was 1/2 the cost of what I had been quoted previously at the Bay Ridge Animal Hospital I agreed- 2nd big mistake -Paid $212. and walked out with 5 doses of Pain Meds for Cat-1 every 12 hours as needed. I returned on Saturday, spent $70 on 10 more doses of pain meds and Kitten Milk since Cat could not be off pain med -now bleeding in addition to drooling and always clawing at jaw. Arrived Tuesday AM, signed an estimate for service of a low $462. to high of $653. (remember I had already spent $282) so the $500 for everything has turned into $744 up to $935 , Dr. Black called me at work 2 hours later to saw that she had completed the dental work but the Cat had "gum tumors that appear to be a very aggressive cancer and the cats jaw is deteriorating rapidly, I would like to get a biopsy of tissue to tell if it is cancer and what type" WAIT I said, you cleaned & did extractions! Dr. Black replied"yes but we really have not seen cancer this aggressive, maybe only 10 times a year so we would really like to do the biopsy" HOW MUCH" I asked and Dr. Black replied "Oh I don't know maybe a $100 dollars and we can talk about a feeding tube for the cat and further treatment..." Unreal! When I later picked up my cat, Dr. Black had left for the day! and there was a $81. balance I was told I had to pay-After speaking to Maria the Office manager who then spoke to the Doc on duty I was given a $30 credit and 5 doses of painkiller. I have now spent a total of $714 at Animal Kind. Before the Cat's pain med ran out over the weekend and she was subjected to any further discomfort, my Cat was euthanized w/ private cremation by another Bklyn Vet. practice. This same vet, who just by looking into her mouth clearly saw the tumor as did his Tech, and advised that I file the Professional Discipline Complaint w/ NYS. Total spent to subject the Cat to unnecessary stress, pain and prolonged agony $1,057. It took Dr. Gibson the owner of Animal Kind 2 days to call me to respond to my detailed 3 page FAX and his response was "I do not understand what the problem is".

I take my very shaggy dog here to get grooming done. It is reasonably priced and he comes home smelling great and detangled. Since he needs grooming often, I appreciate that it is easy to get an appointment and the prices are low....In fact, I think I'll call right now.

I've been to Animal Kind twice, I made the decision to never go back after the 1st time. Unfortunately, the organization I foster for has an account there so I found myself back once more. The 1st time was about 10 years ago when I brought my young dog in to get neutered. I had a Friends of Animals certificate which stated that an extra charge may apply for dogs over 50lbs. They wanted to charge me for that because my dog was 51lbs. They also tried to tack on a bunch of other unnecessary charges. The receptionist staff was rude and condescending. Dr. Gibson (the owner) is the one who saw my dog. My dog had been badly abused before I got him, was terrified of men at the time and would pee when scared. When I brought him into the exam room, D. Gibson didn't acknowledge him at all. My dog was very nervous and peed a little on the floor. Gibson became very upset and yelled for someone to come clean it up. His yelling did nothing to calm my dog. He hardly examined him and treated him like dirt. I was not pleased and got the hell out of there.

My 2nd visit was to bring my 2 foster cats for vaccinations and spaying. Dr. Gibson helped me again and his behavior was better although not caring in the slightest. This time my problem was not so much with him but with the padded bill. They give my foster organization a discount but make up for it by adding extra charges. The receptionist staff was slightly better but not much. One woman gave me an attitude for asking for a copy of the cats records. Which I will need to give to whoever adopts them as proof of their vaccinations and spaying. They charged me for ecollars that they never gave me.

Needless to say I see no reason to ever go there again. I currently take my pets to a wonderful clinic with the 2 best vets I've ever seen.

When I got a new dog I took my dog to this hospital for a routine check up and shots. The vetrinarian was very competent and offered alot of advice on how to take care of that specific breed of dog and the best types of food for him. The staff was super friendly and answered all my questions.
